If I had the power, I would close most of the Universities in Nigeria down or withdraw their licenses. How can you produce productive, problem solving, innovative students if as a Uni you are not solving any problems or producing products ( only bakeries, water & print house etc). The sun is so hot and really harsh around most places in Nigeria. A problem, yes, but an opportunity to generate electricity using Solar panels. These panels are not from another planet, the materials can be sourced and built here in Nigeria. It is not rocket science. Funding ![]() They are teaching students Marketing, how about practicing it and run proper marketing strategy on how to source for funds, corporate partners and investors. Why just sit and wait for Government funding, of which some grants for research have been reportedly squandered by the Universities. Maybe Tony Elumelu should dedicate one year of his TEEP (Entrepreneurship program) dedicated to Nigerian Universities competing as a company for grants to build solutions to specific problems Nigerians are facing that could easily be solved using technology. @TonyElumeluFDN It would be lovely to see Nigerian University showcasing prototypes of locally made washing machines, tomato paste processing machines, road sweepers, traffic light systems, Solar panels and inverter systems, tricycles, modular refinery, Phone chargers, Etc All the roads and building projects happening within any of the Universities in Nigeria should ensure a clause on the MOU forces Contractors to have some slots for Civil engineering students to work along, so they can start having work experience and better understanding. All universities in Nigeria with approved Agricultural courses should have registered farms, with food processing machines (Cassava, tomato paste, juicers, rice millers, poultry feed processors). These independent farms can be part funded by investors, banks etc. The VCs of the Universities need to become more creative in creating revenue generating businesses that their students can be working part time. E.g. A fashion workspace within the Uni with like 50 sewing machines, button and weaving machines too. Users can pay 10k monthly. This workspace will have locked cupboards for users. So some students can start making their money running their fashion business while the products are sold in a shop within the school. This way the Uni can generate revenue. Imagine a UL unilag fashion brand. Imagine UNIBEN Logistics, a company with 20 delivery motorbikes, delivery vans and trucks partnering with the Bus companies in Benin and other startups with picking up and delivering goods and luggages to customers across Benin. Employing students parttime in different functions. Imagine UNIPORT SYSTEMS a registered digital solutions company installing their own, mostly students made Traffic light system at 1st Artillery or Garrison in Port Harcourt. Whilst it may not be so easy, the Andela type business setup could have been replicated in some of our Universities. Instead of the bland computer science courses where students are taught Fortran and Pascal, rather invite Andela to run relevant tech programs inside the UNI. So the UNi can provide the land, and an investor could come in to partner with them to build the lecture halls and coding labs, coworkspaces, and even new hostels. So we can have 'Andela fellows' as students within the University. A revenue sharing agreement could be reached. Reverse Engineering should be a course in our Universities too. From the very first Keke Napep that entered Nigeria, a University should have 'dismantled' it to study the workings and how to reverse engineer it in a bid to have a locally made/assembled prototype. I still clearly remember the Lab technician in UNIBEN (Mechanical Ela)that was using stick to point to parts of a dismembered vehicle that must have been in that same lab since the 70s. He explained quite very well with his limited teaching aid. Hopefully there's an improvement. Culled from twitter: @mrebis

Good one This might be a huge source of inspiration (validation) for these young tech developers, Atleast they wont feel ignored although more support in needed from the Government. Grants and enabling environment for smooth business runnings (reduced double taxation, stable forex market, etc.) |

31st night service of December 2016, at RCCG Promised Land, Ajah, Lagos, This instruction came to me. Every week of the year 2017, you will drop one of the many ideas you have always had and many more as you will be inspired. At the time I didnt know how it will all pan out. ========= DO IT AFRAID.... Yes I did it afraid. ========= Then I didnt yet have a proper website to drop the ideas, I had to start with what I had, a free http://Wix.com one. I knew the Execution of ideas is everything....but then the Idea will be a start for many, so I went on to share ========== In this new year, someone reading this tweet, will need to START, DO, MOVE....even with the fear there DO IT AFRAID. ========== Hopefully, as Young Nigerians burdened with the responsibility of salvaging this Nation, we should begin to tackle the problems bedevilling us as a people head-on.The problem is mostly not the real problem, most times the real problem is in our perception of the perceived problem ========== Eyes covered with hate, stereotypes and divisive rhetorics, will be to darkened to allow for the Light of innovative solutions to come in. Let us rid ourselves of such malices and work together in Love and oneness of heart. There is a lot of work to be done. ========== Here is a link to all 52 of the Business Ideas I shared http://agapedev.com.ng/category/resources/startup-series-for-nigeria/ ======== Best wishes in the New year. Happy New year in Advance. |
Steps to take Design and Manufacture Electric vehicle (with easily ejectable battery) Import or manufacture deep-cycle battery packs Setup Battery charge stations Risk concerns Fires from electric car batteries can be difficult to put out Negative perception about electric vehicles in Nigeria could affect adoption The hot weather in Nigeria could affect the battery (design should include adequate cooling systems). Summary With the battery Swap concept, soon, new battery stations will be popping up around our cities and customers can start having faith in electric vehicles when they see the easy with which their vehicles can be recharged in relatively less time. This can create a new set of jobs as new sets of skills will be required. Cheers and thanks for following the series. ---------------- BUSINESS --------------- So any smart business man can go to China or India with Car specifications, and design a small nissan micra or VW Golf type vehicle that is battery powered (best still setup manufacturing factory in here in Nigeria). By so doing, they will harvest a very massive market for taxi drivers (Abuja or Ibadan cabs come to mind), and other low budget vehicle owners. Design Feature The cars will have to be designed so that the batteries are easily ejectable to be swapped. So YES with the Battery Swap concept, electric cars can be a thing sooner than you think. So you will not have to spend time waiting for the car to get charged up, just drive in, get the battery swapped and drive off.... -------------- Drive Thru ------------- With time, this will be the Norm all over the World as you will spend less time in the swap station. Visit the Station, Drive-thru style and you are back on the road. ===== Application for Households ======= Same can be applied for household inverter batteries. Imagine your battery level at home getting as low as 10%, you either call the Battery-swap company to come to yours with a fully charged inverter battery or you take it over to them to be replaced with one that is fully charged. This service can be done for a fee (subscription based). There is a lot of research and development still to be done with this to achieve having batteries that are not so large, easily removable/replaceable and serviced.

Introduction: Malik Ado-Ibrahim is set to launch an electric car in Nigeria next year. When some people saw this news some time back in October, they expressed worry at the timing and readiness for such and many doubt the possibility (viability) and public acceptance of the Electric car in a Country like Nigeria still plagued with intermittent power supply. I imagined a concept that might make such work (depending on some factors) which I discuss below ======== The Battery Swap Concept ========== There is the concept of 'Battery Swapping' where you can drive into a battery station where Batteries are already charged, you drive in, and get your 10-20% battery swapped with one fully charged for a small fee, and in less than 3 minutes, you drive off....for the next 100 miles or whatever the range the battery capacity can carry. So imagine all Petrol stations in Nigeria having a Battery swap center....Then it would not be much of a problem anymore.

Steps to take • Learn more about gadgets and software needed • Run simulations with smaller events • Connect with event planners and show organisers • Volunteer to stream some for free (If possible – they pay for Internet Data) Risk concerns Adequately test-run your live streams before the main events to avoid disappointing your clients on their big day. Get the right Internet service providers to avoid poor services Summary If you can learn about the whole setup of Live streaming events, your service can be in hot demand all year round. Most of the things you need to know about are already on the internet, If you have any questions on this or you couldn’t find clear answers, feel free to ask. Additional links https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJHXaDa35GE Cheers and thanks for following the series. Video Mixers are also important in the setup, but be sure to find more modern ones that have USB, HD or Firewire Outputs to be connected to a PC or broadcast modem before renting or buying. ManyCams There are also software alternatives to video mixers, one of which is ManyCams that I have found very useful as it can have up-to four (4) video inputs, subtitling, lower-thirds, etc. while all is being broadcasted live to (either facebook, youtube, etc.)

Video Mixers

For starters, some of the devices needed might be expensive, such as the Video encoders, video mixers, connectors etc. I figured that there are some software (applications) that can make the encoding and streaming easier and less expensive, one of which is the ADOBE MEDIA LIVE ENCODER. You can check on Google for more help on how to use the Adobe Media Live Encoder. Live encoder can stream directly to Youtube which can also be embedded into other websites.

Some Religious centres already stream their services and their events, while some are currently in need of who can help them implement such service effectively. Some people who maybe reside outside Nigeria and plan to do their wedding here, may want their wedding professionally live streamed so that their friends, families and colleagues outside Nigeria can watch Live. Music and Comedy Concert organisers can employ Live streaming services and could also earn some revenue if the stream is monetised. There are a number of websites that offer monetisable-streaming services. Further research on Google can direct you to the help you need on that. Internet Strength One of the most important components of this very setup is the internet. With poor quality internet, the stream signal will be of very poor quality and unstable. It is advisable to use broadband modems such as Swift 4g, Smile, Spectranet, etc as opposed to other Telcos such as Airtel, Glo, MTN, because of wider bandwidths. The cost of data will need to be considered in estimating what should be charged for this service. Facebook Live This makes it easy to Stream an event Live to audiences online, although most people who currently uses this do so straight from a Smartphone and so cannot include subtitles or different camera views. If you figure out how to Live stream to include multiple cameras, subtitles and in good quality, you can contact event organisers and offer this service to them for a fee. I have attached a link to a Youtube video tutorial on how to stream to youtube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJHXaDa35GE). There are loads of other tutorials on the internet that can help. Introduction: There are loads of events that happen every week in Nigeria, during weekdays and weekends. Some of which include, Conferences (Religious and non-Religious), Music concerts, Trade fairs, Parties (Weddings, birthdays, launch events, etc.). Some of these events may to be streamed Live and if you can provide such service, that can be something you can use as leverage in brokering new partnerships or simply as a business offering. Events

Risk concerns Special care should be taken to ensure that the feathers are adequately treated to best hygiene standards. There some instances of people cutting off the feathers from birds while they are alive (they are kept warm so as to avoid them being exposed to cold), but this will always be faced with protest by animal right groups. This Idea however focuses solely on getting the feathers from those that will be killed for meat. Summary Whilst many Chicken and other poultry birds will be consumed this December, there is an opportunity for Business in using the by-product (feathers), which can be explored for revenue generation and employment creation. Additional links http://thepoultryguide.com/uses-of-chicken-feathers/ https://www.greenbiz.com/news/2002/03/31/recycling-poultry-feathers-more-bang-cluck Cheers and thanks for following the series. Steps to take Some among other steps to be taken include: • Find your Supplier (Poultry farmers, frozen poultry processing houses, etc.) • Identify your market • Get fabrics • Find you a tailor to sew the pillows, throw pillows • Sell
|
Feathers are made of keratin, the same tough, tightly wound protein fiber that makes up hair, wool, fingernails, and hooves. Feathers can't be taken from the chicken and made directly into new materials, however. The stiff central core of the feather (the quill) must be stripped of the flexible, interconnected strands of material that emerge from it (the barbs).

Most times when most people imagine Poultry farming, the usual product expected to be harvested are Chicken (meat) and next are the eggs. There are other by-products of Poultry farming with one of these by-products being the subject of this week’s Business start-up idea. The feathers from Poultry farming can be treated/processed and be used as stuffings for Pillows and some furniture coverings. Rather than them being wasted/thrashed, one can explore this for Business by contacting those who prepare and package frozen chicken for sale to collect the feathers, have them treated and dried, then use them for pillows, throw pillows, even Teddy Bears.
|
Introduction: Can you imagine the amount of Poultry (Chicken, turkey etc) that would be killed this Festive period in Nigeria as well as the ones killed regularly for food at fast food outlets, hotels, schools, etc. It will definitely be a lot.

Steps to take Learn the processes around writing statements Design and Develop the website Promote and Enlighten the general public. Sell advert slots Competition As of today, if anyone builds such solution, it would be the only one of such websites or WebApp that will be dedicated collating and documenting incident reports and having it saved in a database that can be queried for useful information. Summary This idea, if implemented will help in making everyone contribute/participate in data generation and provision of information that can help in enhancing the collective security awareness of the general populace. Cheers and thanks for following the series. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please get in touch Twitter: Follow @Mrebis Email: mrebis1@gmail.com |
This obviously has social impact on the society at large, but it can also provide a means of revenue generation, as the traffic on the site can provide substantial revenue through paid ads on certain sections of the website. But if this is funded by Government or an investor, the app can be made to be free of any ads. What should the App do? Users should be able to report any incident, as it happens e.g, Accident, Theft, Armed robbery etc. Users should also be able to map in the location and time of incident. One can check this site for some ideas https: //1stincidentreporting.com/en/
|
These locations could be represented on a Map so it can over time present a database of incidents and a pictorial representation of the trouble hotspots with each city in Nigeria. As many Nigerians know, when there is an incident, and the Police is involved, the witnesses or those who report the incidents are expected to write STATEMENTS. These statements are normally written and filed, and may not be revisited or be of any benefit to anyone. This website would make it easier for people to make digital police statements or report incidences without fear of being harassed or intimidated. These reports can generate very vital information that can be useful to both the security agencies and the general public on trouble spots in the city as well as observable trends. One can quickly check on the map to have a picture of the sorts of security hazards that is prevalent in an area of the various Cities.
|
Introduction: Following recent events and happenings in Nigerian social media spaces, there was and still is a campaign against Police Brutality, injustice and oppression of young and hardworking Nigerians who have recounted tales of their unpleasant experiences with a unit of the Police force (F-SARS). This week’s idea calls on all Software Developers in Nigeria to contribute the society at large by building a website, webApp or a mobile app that will allow for Nigerians to be able to report crimes, and incidences as they happen, specifying the location, time of incident, and nature of the incident.
