Joomla is very easy and preferable but it has some limitations. Drupal is easy to understand and somewhat difficult to implement. Wordpress is low cost and even very easy. For career prospects Joomla and Drupal is preferable.

Good Programmer : the word itself is a big one.

There are people updating themselves on a day basis with the growing new technologies which is having a different programming skills.

Knowing only Visual Basic is not sufficient for you. You can go for more programming language to increase your skills.
