WoodcrestMayor: Nigerian doctors-one of the least payed in the world. No wonder they run to other countries that appreciate them better.
you don't know what you are saying,so you want to earn like the doctors in the US,do u know how much they spend on getting their degrees?By the time they are done from med school..they would be owing so much money gotten from Govt loan while they were in school..they will have to spend the first 8 or 9 years of their careers paying back govt loans.Do u want to compare theirs to nigeria

PietroRico: Ojingbe isn't passing the message across well.
Pharm D was scrapped. It Does not mean that uniben no longer does pharmacy. It just means pharmacy students would not be automatic Drs on graduation like optometry, dentistry and of course medicine students.

As for the cut off and said quota, only time will tell grin.
only temporarily though

The larger tribes will want to canvass more landscape to themselves, don't be surprised even ijaws will forcefully invade the urhobos when the time comes.

customized07: don't be in a hurry, but try and do a simple study on a similar case like this from around the world, states like Edo, delta, benue, kogi, kwara will serve as interceptions between the tribes involved when the time comes and the larger tribes are gonna have their own fair share from these states. Its just the plain truth, all we can do is to pray against this looming war.

Mcslize: medicine doesn't carry highest quota. They hardly take more than 100. Last year it was 90. Other department do take up to 200 e.g pharmacy, optometry, Law. Engineering courses do take 150 so on and so forth
last year.. medicine admitted 80 ..pharmacy admitted 115..dentistry admitted around 23..medicine merit cut off for last year,66 to 68 for edo catchment,69 for delta,70 for east,59 to 60for eldst, pharmacy 61 Edo catchment, 63 other catchments, dentistry 61 to 62

Talibanis: THIS IS A SAD STORY:A NURSE TREATED BY A PHARMACIST BATTLING FOR HER LIFE IN ICU
This is a recent developing story. Pls read and digest accordingly.

A mismanaged case of postpartum ecclampsia by a pharmacist is presently in a critical condition in the ISTH's ICU (Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital). This nurse was said to had put to bed 5days before presentation to the pharmacy (name witheld) opposite Eguare primary school, Ekpoma. Her compliant of headache among other symptoms was taken to be ordinary without any BP check. Rather than refer the patient to the closest clinic/doctors around since she is still in the puerperal stage, he decided to treat. She had seizure (convulsion) on getting home and lapse into unconsciousness. This led to her husband who is not a medical person to start calling for help from all the doctors on his contact. She was rushed to a private clinic where on assessment was diagnosed to have post partum ecclampsia. They got in touch with the anaesthetist and some other consultants in ISTH who rushed in to render their services and stabilize her in ICU.
You be the fair judge. I earnestly pray this will not add to our already beyond the sky maternal mortality. A lot of pharmacists, laboratory scientists, nurses, pastors, orderlies, porters, etc run clinics and misinform the populace. Many are dying in the hands of quacks majority of which are the allied medical/paramedical professionals. Giving the the status of doctors, consultants etc is like endorsing this quackery.
‪#‎bringbackourdoctors‬
‪#‎sadlynigerian‬
when there is one missing link..the doctor who diagnose, then this kind of news shouldn't come as a surprise..the truth is every department in the health sector should be allowed to make their own decisions...the doctors don't just have a good reason for this strike..l doubt that the president would even listen to them this time..an agreement has been had with JOHESU already...I don't expect the govt to renege.
HealthRe: Furore Over Doctor Of Pharmacy Degree In Nigerian Universities. by sikells(m): 8:57am On Jun 29, 2014
Pennywise: Everybody wants to be a doctor withour having to go through the stiff competition and rigors that medical school entails. The pharmacists, the optometrists also recently started a 6 yr program and are now called doctors doing all kinds of things including seting iv lines in phamacies and 'optometry clinics'. I wonder what the nurses and radiographers are still waiting for. Truly competent unionists perhaps?.

Pharmacists and Optometrists who left school long bf this fraudulent scheme was contrived are brandishing complimentry cards appending 'Dr' to their names. We dont know who is a real doctor anymore n Nigeria.

Pharmacists have since abdicated their roles in the health sector to traders and are now looking for fertile grounds by corrupting an allied profession. Pharma practice in Nigeria has stagnated in Nigeria so badly. While breakthroughs are being reported in other countries their only achievement in Nigeria is being called doctors.

But the sad part of this is that if u want to be a doctor and still legitimately proceed with your parmaceutical dreams, U can. They are called clinical pharmacologists and the country has many of them. But these charlatans want a short quick route. Why not? Everything goes in Nigeria.

For those who are quick to draw a parallel with what is obtainable in the US and other countries, the Nigerian Pharm D is a fraud for many reasons I dont have the time to go into. Ghana started bc they saw Nigeria and many other countries with vocal trade unions will soon follow.

The Nigerian pharmacists have simply taken the fight against doctors to a whole new level and they consider this a victory in what is no more than licensed quackery. The consequence is a chaotic health sector where nothing appears to be what it seems.

Perhaps this wouldnt have happened if doctors out of selfishness have not tenaciously held on to leadership of the health sector in appointments to political and administrative positions! God help Nigeria.
this post is just not encouraging at all..why must doctors always have problems with other health professionals?y do they seek to control all health professions...health professionals are supposed to work together..little wonder why our health system is just nothing to write home about
HealthRe: Furore Over Doctor Of Pharmacy Degree In Nigerian Universities. by sikells(m): 8:09am On Jun 29, 2014
silica: The truth is over 90% of those in the Pharmacy profession are those who initially wanted to study medicine but couldn't make it. Ever since, they have been looking for backdoor ways to be caled doctors. Which is why they came up with thos new trick.check the problem at the hospitals, it's either pharmacists want to be paid the same salary as doctors or they want to be Chief Medical Directors. Hospitals are for Doctors and Nurses. Pharmacist merely offer auxiliary functions. If they can't work in d hospital as an appendage they should go and establish a robust pharmacy industry and supretend over its affairs rather than instigating other workers at the hospitals to cause trouble in our health sector.
Damn....this post is just trash, can everyone study medicine?but y do doctors always think so low of the other professions, for Pete's sake, not everyone wants to study Medicine, everyone has their own desire, med school is as rigorous and expensive as pharmacy school or nursing school..do u think pharmacy school is an easy cake?
HealthRe: Furore Over Doctor Of Pharmacy Degree In Nigerian Universities. by sikells(m): 7:01am On Jun 29, 2014
obviously...most Nigerians are against improvements, our health care system is in shambles..how can the improvement to Pharm d program ever degrade the health care system..rather,is it not to improve it?Nigeria has started b.Pharm since in d 70's..if d nuc decides to improve d degree now in all universities, then in a decade years time..there would have been great achievements already. Now,this notion that d pharmacists just wannabe called doctors is just farfetched,Nigeria is even dearth of doctors in our health care system,so are we now against adding more doctors to the system? cos this issue of doctors having a problem with d commencement of this degree is just appalling. everyone in d health sector is supposed to support each other and work closely for the greater good of d patient, and not having personal vendettas against each other almost everytime, and of cos each department in the health care sector is responsible for its own jurisdiction and should be allowed to make decisions that they think would benefit d department
