Family › Re: Why Your Diasporan Friends And Family Do Not Send You Money When You Ask. by silibaba: 6:20pm On May 31, 2020 |
expect you involve yourself in illegal biz, you will suffer over there. rentAcock: Abroad people call me every weekend asking me to send money (not bragging). Many of them are frustrated over there. They work long hours including overtime but the government takes federal, state, city, social security, medicare, medicaid and disability taxes. On top of that, when they buy biscuit, they will still take sales tax. They pay exorbitant rent; those who "own" homes are locked in a loan repayment for 30yrs of which they still have to pay annual taxes for their house. Phone bill can cost over $60 per line, cable $120, internet $80 and they still pay tax on top of it. Burger and chips with soft drink can easily cost you $16 plus tax.
Sure some folks are making over $100,000 theoretically especially healthcare workers in expensive states like California and new York, but by the time they deduct all those taxes from their check, they are left with just $40,000. Then they still have to pay more taxes on every thing they buy. That's not life. It's like a rat wheel, oscillating but not making any progress. I have a cousin who was in the same situation in America, after 10yrs working as a social worker, he returned home and we started up a business. He still regrets all the years he spent slaving away in America. Today, he travels the world on vacation and visiting places he didn't even have time to visit when he was living abroad. It's not too late for Nigerians living abroad to return home; you can make it big here with less stress and you will extend your life span. |

Education › Re: Don’t Reopen Schools Now, Lagos Parents Tell Govt by silibaba: 4:38pm On May 28, 2020 |
sorry bro, I feel your pain. but am not letting my kids out for school anytime soon. I and my wifey took it upon ourselves to coach them, and also buy them some study materials. I even went to the length of buying this whiteboard at home. coupled with the online class I take them 4am to 7am in the morning, before going for my hustle and at night 8pm to 11pm and they are used to the time already coz even on a normal day we normally wake them up for school by 4am. As I am talking to you, my first son in basic 3 is already solving common entrance past questions, I am considering registering him for the common entrance examination WHAT I DISCOVERED my kids are learning faster under me and my wife watch than while in school. ADVICE parents should spend more time and get closer to their children. don't leave it for their teachers alone no vaccine no school period!!!! Eulalia: They keep saying don't open schools. For what exactly? Is it to prevent the children from being exposed? Mind you, other sectors have been opened and the same parents kicking against the reopening of schools expose themselves to crowded markets, offices (especially banks) and still come back home to the same wards they are trying to protect. What sense is there in all that. It only takes one exposed person to infect thousands of contacts if we are to go by the epileptic policy and if this disease is still really that "widespread". Take the case of a father who infected his entire family some months ago. Did the children go to any school?
Please let the educational sector also be opened. Covid 19 has reduced to the bearest minimum and with the right precautionary measures in place, there won't be any rebound of the pandemic.
The teachers are the worst hit of this lockdown with no form of support or relief from the govt. If we all decide to change career and quit teaching for good, then will people understand our importance and the need to put us into consideration first before any other profession.
We are the medium to civilization. Without us, the world future will be bleak and Ignorance will be the order of the day. |

Lizzyangel: you can't change people...but environment attimes changes people a lot.....my piece of advice,
1....kindly relocate to a more isolated area...e.g and estate or new site where people are lesser in the compound and area and ensure your neighbors are all working.
2....After relocating...try to get a job or shop for her...or you buy her a laptop where you'll ask her to type 50pages per day before you come back from work that its a piece you'd be using at work.
3....Introduce her to Nairaland....she will get tired of their gist and will always want to check the latest news and also learn some things about life on Family section.
only God above knows your plan. so that you will be sending her DM right?
I won't say a word.
op, better be careful with this guy ooo Trying to change her won't work out soon. Best of lucks Sir.
