Hi @Ramj
congrats!
was wondering if you can help. I applied for VoA yesterday. didn't get a response and only just checked spam mail now only to see mail didn't go through because of doc size. I've resized and resent but I was wondering if you know how long the processing time is before I receive travel docs. I'm scheduled to leave on Monday..
thanks in advance.
I'd appreciate help from anyone else too
Ramj:

Thanks Zee and congrats to you too.
If you get stuck with VoA contact me..

I think you may be able to notarize if it's a scheduled C.section and you already have a fixed date. I booked the appointment online before my baby was born cos I already had a date. And besides they don't ask for birth certificate at notarization.
Aibisoye0:
Please house has anyone notorized document before birth. As I won't be going with DW any advise....

That's a lot, AroOkigbo. I really appreciate the clarification. I found this link.... https://evisaforms.state.gov/acs/default.asp?postcode=LGS&appcode=1

Is this the right one for booking notarization appointment?

Thanks

AroOkigbo:

Yes, you need to have the notarized document to be able to process a US passport for LO if DH won't be around.
DH will need to fill the form, schedule and take it to the embassy in Lagos or Abuja to get it notarized. After this, he couriers it to you sharply.
The VOA is for those without Nigerian passport. If you are able to process the Nigerian passport in the US for LO, you don't need VOA approval.

Hello Everyone, Pls can someone explain the whole notarisation process. DH will not be here when LO arrives and I understand I need his consent to process US Passport for baby. Also, with VOA do I still need to process a Nigerian passport here or will the US passport suffice?

thanks for this.

I'll certainly start working on it.

Fyorgyn:

This is from the USCIS Website

"...If you want to extend your stay in the United States, you must file a request with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on the Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status before your authorized stay expires....We recommend that you apply to extend your stay at least 45 days before your authorized stay expires..."

For more information go to
https://www.uscis.gov/visit-united-states/extend-your-stay

I don't know if using an "immigration" lawyer will impact on the application but it may be worth looking into. (I have no idea how they work and have no recommendations... it's just a thought)

wow. Na wa o. Never had POE issues. This is my 4th trip to the US. although I was not pregnant or going to have a Baby on previous trips.

Pls, How do I apply for extension? process etc
it's almost 45days till 1st May. so I need to start ASAP.

thanks for your response!
Fyorgyn:

This is a very tough one!

Once you overstay by less than 180 days, your visa will be cancelled and it will be very very very difficult (not impossible) getting another visa to the U.S. If its more than 180 days you will be banned for 3 years and you get a 10 year ban if you overstay by 365 days or more.

In my (very limited and inexperienced) opinion you have four options

1. Come back to Nigeria and have the baby
2. Do Nothing, Overstay and bear the consequences
3. File for an extension
(it is advisable to file for extension 45 days before your authorised stay expires. Note that processing time takes 3-6months AND there is no guarantee that you'd get it)

4. Get the baby out at 38 weeks, get baby's documents and leave in 3 weeks. You can do this by
a)Fasting and Praying for the baby to come out early
b) being proactive and scheduling an induction or elective CS at 38 weeks.

It is definitely a tough one

For now, relax and take care of yourself and the LO

Pls what is the procedure to request for extension?

I'm in Kansas, MO.
feddy27:

You are in, you are in...
1. Request for extension
2. You can schedule induction from 39 weeks. Again this depends on your doctor

What city are you?

Hello All, I'm new to nairaland so following up on all the conversations has been overwhelming. I'm currently in the U.S to have my baby. I applied for drop box (b1/b2) and got my visa in January. travelled late Feb at about 32wks. At POE I was sent to secondary inspection and the stamped a May 1st return date which is approx 1 week after my EDD. They asked if i told them at the interview that i was coming to give birth, i said no, didnt have an interview. They seem shocked at first and had never heard of drop box. I'm sure I can't travel with a 1 week old newborn. I'm really confused. my original return trip is mid May. Pls I need your urgent advice. Thanks.
