I will tell you why

Some times I find it difficult convincing them that their book is safe with me. Since they're very little way of securing a manuscript that is yet to be published, except you want to pay Digital right management websites to secure the work, I always refer them to Google Drive.

So I always advice my client to secure their book by saving it on Google Drive before sending to me.

I don't know the angle you are coming from. It's an expression that I used to tell kdp authors that writing is not a "make it fast " Business
A lot of people are making it fast though. That is, those that know what to do: they already know the secret

But boss, come to think of it like this let say you spend your time writing a book of 50k words, but no one is interested in it, nor no one is searching for it.

This means all Energy's wasted, you can ask those that have been there before they will tell you that don't invent the will, join the bandwagon but standout with unique content and cover.

Keywords take 60% in this publishing business, unless you are not interested in the money making aspect.
In miy humble experience apart from content and cover what makes or mar a book is the keywords.

I like the way you Presented your view, you're also very correct. but my fear is for newbies that keep chasing keywords as If book buyers are robots. My opinion here is what works for me. That is why I stop writing new book for now, rather I focus on updating content and republishing many of my books.
once I see very important info about what I have written before, I pull the book down, update and perhaps, two weeks later the book is back on sale

I think this is working for me because most of the books are Kindle exclusive. I don't know how right or wrong I am on this ... asap

Now the right keyword selection will start from selecting the right book tittle , which is a reflection of the book content, not reflection of the most searched keywords, otherwise you'll be misleading your readers
Also the 7 hidden keywords should reflect the book content, possibly taken from some of the major headings, theme or ideas being projected.
Contrary to this, you might even have a reader who will give you a bad review because your tittle is misleading.
This reminds me of the "right niche syndrome" A lot of people ask me which niche do you think I should write about?
My response is always "any one you can do perfectly" The reason is that all niche is important just as all occupation is important. the basic thing here is to write a winning Book. the topic you have written on might not be trending now, just one global news about something like that will make people start reading books on that.

1 clickable table of content that specifies major headings
2 well formated for e-reading copy
3 well-proofread manuscript

on the book title, some people will tell you to do professional cover design, but I tell you a bad title will kill a book whose cover was designed by the best graphic designer in the world for one major reason-KEYWORD

This is very wrong and aesthetically create unnecessary white space distortion, etc and KDP will see it as error and will automatically fix it. Meaning your formating will change
2. Formatting for kindle is slightly different from formatting for other ebook platforms like Draft 2 Digital etc
You need not bother yourself about the term epub files, is somewhat complicated than just an ebook file
The key is knowing how to use the various tools in ms words to format an ebook file.

Well, like I told a fellow, publishing fictions is more complicated than you think because buyers of fiction books are pleasure seekers. if you have not build a credible reputation as an author. It's rather difficult to sell your fiction books on kdp. Just my opinion though, because I also started with fiction, before I ventured into non fiction books that either solve a problem or provide an answer to a dificult question.

That's when I started making money.
You know how you run to google to find an answer to something, and you come across a blog that provides an answer. You must read it to the last page right?
That's how book buyers also will not hesitate to buy your book if your book provides what they need.
So those who want to make money on kdp should know this.

Talking about formatting for Kindle, it is simple for those who know just what to do. but for others is like a trial and error that is not worth doing because the effect is obviously negative and embarrassing to the author and his book sales
You must be familiar with ms word styles for Heading: positioning and sizing , organising your content into a clickable table of contents (this in particular will help readers of your book navigate page easily for non-story books especially ) and a properly organized text with the right before and after paragraph spacing for those using ms word formating.

it may not be just that simple to resize it in Photoshop, it depends on the design's imprint size on the spine text part of the cover and added bleed from the cover image

e-books are getting more competitive, so don't just publish but publish like a professional writer. That's why readers would want your book. So ensure that first your title is OK, the cover and content is exciting, then format to specification. Asap

all this Nigerians trying every illegal means to outsmart this automated e-book platforms should pls stop. Publishing a book is is a more serious business than some of us think. That is why it is called intellectual property.
Some of us are making our daily bread from kdp royalty payment and I will not be happy to hear that Nigerians have been banned from publishing in kdp I get seriously angry when someone come in a public forum asking how he or she can by pass a system and some persons will just give out the info as if it's the right thing to do.
almost every one can use a pen name, it's legal, I also started using pen name as far back as 2017 when I leant that some white people don't believe that anything good can come from us.
but I also have about four or so books in my real name. and an author central account. With that kdp recognize me as a seller in that platform who is also allowed to sell other author's books through my kdp account on their behalf. At such I can publish with as many pen name as I want. you must not be be in US to help a friend in US sale his books so what's the need trying to change your location? That is why I laugh on hearing someone say kdp block my account. I've had more serious issue on kdp when it was createspace but my account kept running because every info on that platform is verifiable . I encourage everyone to always respond to kdp personal mail within 5days even if the issue has been resolved. just let them know that you have received their mail and that the issue has been resolved.
The bad name we have online as Nigerians is enough for us to have a rethink so let us tread with caution.
