Politics / Re: Do You Approve Of Lamido Sanusi's Actions? by simeipiri: 12:00am On Aug 27, 2009
adigun101:

While I would say I approve of his motives, I definitely do not approve of his actions. I have got a few questions to this regard.
1. Sanusi's objective as he claims are by all accounts needed and commendable.
2. The manner he has gone about it to me have by all accounts been reckless, haphazard and destructive.
3. Where there other less damaging ways to deal with this issue apart from how he's gone about it ?
4. What were the true situation of the banks , were there insolvent ?
5. Are the actions of the bank MDs and their deptors criminal ? So much so to call in the EFCC and call for prosecution ?
6. Has he got enough evidence to prove allegations of fraud against the bank MDs and their debtors as this is the only way they can and should ever be prosecuted as criminals ?
7. Has he considered the Long term damages to Nigerian Economy and stock market and confidence in the banking sector, including investor confidence ?
8. Did banks like RBS, Nothern Rock, Citigroup, Bear Sterns, Merryl linch, lehman brothers,AIG etc have their executives charged or thrown in jail.
9. Will anyone agree with me that most of the bailouts done by western economies where done after approval from the legislature, with little or no details/disclosures about the liabilities   and toxic debts of these banks. Was there ever a name and shame campaign ?
10. None of these banks claimed insolvency, would it have killed sanusi to give them time and backing in recovering their non performing loans.
11. A loan is a contract between a lender and borrower. The terms of this contract are varied and complex. Including conditions for defaulting. How does the CBN arrive at a not performing loan ?

Well after what a certain analyst at described as a "Bull in a China Shop" action by Sanusi. I guess we haven't got any choice but to sit back and watch events unfold.
I predict that is going to be long. Suits and counter suits  against the CBN, EFCC and banks. An impasse that would last and would stunt the growth of our financial sector and possibly spread to other areas of our corporate sector. We will not notice it now, but just imagine you are a foreign investor possed with investing in Nigeria.

Well I predicted this. Sanusi is a man with strong personal qualities/ character/ethics. He has shown this for the world to see by going head on to enforce ethics in the banking sector.
Sanusi is also a man with relative little/insufficient experience and exposure as he is apparently clueless with little knowledge on the legal and macro-economic issues that lurk behind.
I am only warning but only time would tell.

You have spoken wisely. For this i would explain the difference between knowledge, wisdom and understanding

Knowledge is the facts, understanding is the ability to lift the meaning out of the facts and wisdom is knowing what to do next or as some would say the right application of knowledge.

Sanusi might have known the facts considering that he has been in the indusry for a while but has not taken the right steps

My advise is that he would have done the same thing in a different way. Creating less panic and achieving the same goal.

I sincerely hope (even if i doubt it) that he has the best interest of the Nigeria as a whole at heart
Politics / Re: Mend (Jomo Gbomo) Speaks About Atlas Cove by simeipiri: 1:37pm On Jul 18, 2009
Sky Blue:

By crippling the economy and putting Nigeria into an even deeper recession than it has been all this while? Who would end up suffering as a result, the Federal government or ordinary Nigerians who would be facing an even higher rate of unemployment (as if that were possible) and an even more seemingly hopeless future? This is what I have been talking about with regards to MEND and their credibility. The insecurity and torment that is being inflicted on ordinary Nigerians is wasted on them, the insecurity should be inflicted on those holding Nigeria to ransom, the federal government, certain groups in the legislature that have been twiddling their thumbs instead of passing progreesive laws, etc.

Trying to cripple the economy is a silly plan because it affects EVERYBODY, it can't be helped that whatever money Nigeria obtains goes to the federal government. Sacrificing the future of poor Nigerians struggling to eke out a living in order to get to the federal government can be likened to burning a whole house in order to heat a kettle of water in the kitchen. The only effect such a tactic would inflict on those in power is pretty much along the lines of no money to buy a ferrari hence having to settle for a lexus instead, while people on the streets would be dying. Again, MEND, have you forgotten the way to Abuja? This is ludacris.

Skyblue,

You made some points here. I have always tried to avoid talking about these issues because i'm on Nairaland to do business but let me pass a word or two about this issue
If you listened to the speech by the ex-president of Ghana, he made it clear that the our leader should be accountable to us and we Nigerians haven't made them accountable to us. WHY, i would tell you the little i know
- The average Nigerian wants to go ahead with his business not minding what the government is doing
- The average Nigerian believes that someday he/she would have someone in the corridor of power be it ward councellor or President

The simple truth we don't want to change the system and that goes for majority of Nigerians.

If you want to stop corruptions its very simple, use the chinese system of capital punishment and i bet you Nigeria would be the least corrupt country in the world

Well my point, if everyone is suffering the brunt of this struggle it's becasue we all deserve it one way or the other

I don't support violence but if anyone wants to talk about criminals, they are no better ones than those in Power.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE ABOUT IT
Properties / Re: Lagos Lawmakers Disagree Over Tenancy Bill by simeipiri: 9:03pm On Jul 15, 2009
kaecy5:

well Bros, i doubt if you pay your house rent yourself cos if u do u would know that paying for a 3 bedroom apartment for 2 or 3 years in advance might force you to take a bank loan. probably u are one of those that only think about themselves and not what people in our streets go thru, but alas it would come to u when you grow up and one day b4 u become ur almighty landlord you would face the music

i have live in Europe . Usa, southafrica and i can authoritatively tell you only Nigeria is where u pay 3 years in advance. does any body in Nigeria receive salary in advance? i even know a lot of folks that have not received up to 3 months salary

the whole system has to change i agree with u, starting from the government to the banks, i use to think there is a term called mortgage loan, but we both know it is not for me and you it is for the likes that keep borrowing and would not pay and they end up striking a deal with the bank MD. we only see them in the news papers, infarct one of them was named in Forbes list- richest man in Nigeria with factories of cement macaroni spaghetti all around the country and yet would not pay back his loan

go and try getting a mortgage loan from a nigerian bank, the interest if it does not kill u would make u permanently broke, u would end up paying salaries of at least one entry level every year for the whole 30 year duration of the loan.

the system needs to change and our govt should be responsible to the people not to build houses sell it to their friends and tell us via NTA that they have giving us the people housing project, i am tired of being played.

maybe when you pay your first house rent probably some where in Lekki / ikoyi by God's grace and you pay for 2 years and you survive, u still have changed to buy ur flat screen and a car please let me know and dont tell me you work for the big companies, tell me you work for the regular me and u company and i would be eager to learn your survival tactics

cheers

Kaecy5
Just for your information i started paying my house rent 6 years ago. I'm married with 2 kid so please don't insult me.
If i work for a big company and you don't thats none of my business.
Monthly rent can't work in Nigeria and thats just my own opinion.
How many months quit notice do you give a tenant that pays monthly. Think again before you write, i know Nigerians would definetly abuse this.
Nigeria is good at solving problems from the top and never getting to the root of it. Solutions that would last for months and before you know it we are either back to where we are or even worse
For me, just a silly idea
Properties / Re: Lagos Lawmakers Disagree Over Tenancy Bill by simeipiri: 6:16pm On Jul 14, 2009
I'm not a landlord but hope to be one someday. I would never support this bill because its against the free market policy. As rightly said govt should first of all build houses and put it up for monthly rent. Lead by example
Lets face the fact this can't work
I have alot of respect for Fashola but this is not the right way to go
Properties / Re: About To Purchase A Land In Ikorodu-advice Needed by simeipiri: 4:43pm On Jul 05, 2009
ok.gerald:

A bros of mine is about to take me to somewhere in ikorodu, Lagos to purchase a plot of land for 500 thousand naira. Am scared and need advice on steps to take so as not to fall into wrong hannds . Thanks

If you are not sure of your bros then my advise is don't buy. Moreover there are a lot of good estate plots now selling in Ikorodu.
I have always preferred estate plots though the one that would suit the budget stated above are probably still in the development stage and might not be ready for you to build
Properties / Re: F.c.t( Abuja). Availability Of Direct Government Allocation by simeipiri: 9:57pm On Jun 25, 2009
abuja11:

Thanks for your interest. Acquiring land in Abuja directly through Govt. allocation is not exactly as it is in other states. Abuja is divided into phases 1,2,3 and 4. Direct Government allocation is more or less no longer available in phases 1 and 2, phase 3 and 4 is on going with good follow up.
Cost can only be known after receipt of offer letter, which comes with the amount to be paid to Govt coffers from the bills department of A.G.I.S this depends on the number of sqm and location.
LAND ACQUISITION is capital intensive however Government direct allocation is 100% cheaper and more secured as compared to buying from the secondary market.
Our website is undergoing some restructuring .
Best regards.

Politics / Re: Death Cargo! 6,000 Tonnes Of Poisonous Rice Head For Nigeria by simeipiri: 12:59pm On Jun 20, 2009
I wouldn't mind if the rice can be directed to the houses of the greedy politicians

Infact if i come across this rice, i would market it and make sure its so expensive that they would be only one to buy it

Properties / Re: Advanced Rents Banned In Lagos: by simeipiri: 6:17pm On Jun 13, 2009
When someone like Fashola comes up with an idea like this, he definetly has a well thought out plan that would be for the good of all.

Let's wait and see. Definetly he wouldn't be that crazy to tell landlords to collect monthly rent.

There is no way monthly rent would work in Nigeria
Properties / Re: Advanced Rents Banned In Lagos: by simeipiri: 8:39pm On Jun 09, 2009
You have all spoken well but seems to be looking at it from the tenant perspective. Just for clarification i'm also a tenant. Let's take a simple case
I plan to stay in lagos for 4months and pay for one month rent. The rent expires and the landlord can't do anything till another 3 months before evicting me.
The problem with nigerians is that we never want to face the fact. We nigerians would always take advantage of this and that is a typical nigeria for you.

Please note that i'm also a tenant but just trying to look at this from both ends. My landlord is a nice chap and i have seen tenants try to take advantage of him.

Whatever the case is, Government should make sure both parties are protected

Nice one, i have some questions for you

- What is the going rates for the one night
- What is the demand like. Honestly doesn't sound like there is demand for this in ABJ, maybe LAGOS
- How much is the service charge
- How do i keep track of my suite. That is knowing when it is put to use.
Properties / Re: F.c.t( Abuja). Availability Of Direct Government Allocation by simeipiri: 11:39pm On May 22, 2009
Hmmm, i wonder where the politicians and their cronies would be when the common man is receiving allocation from AGIS and making 5000% profit
In nigeria, i think that should be in another life
Properties / Re: Where To Settle - Ibadan Vs Abuja? Analyse Or Give Your Opinion Please by simeipiri: 7:21pm On May 13, 2009
Can't be compared. Ibadan is definetly not in the same league with ABJ.

Simply incomparable
