Just like nurey said, that T6 is best avoided, you'll definitely have to replace transmission every now and then, besides, the parts are so expensive ie

Cost of engines:

5cylinder turbo - 150-180k for complete engine, depending on the greed level of seller
6 cylinder twin turbo(T6) - 330-350k for complete engine, depending on the greed level of seller

So, go figure!!

Let me add, if you are sure you dont need AWD(needed in very bad roads), get the Front wheel drive. its hard to find but you will be glad you did as all the headache in the back suspension will not be your portion. lol.

I got same and never regretted(except when the road in my area got so bad that my wife got stuck on two occasions)

If you can, get a toks. except if your buying from someone like me(a well managed one).

The T6 is not a reliable engine, you can do the T5 or the V8 but i think the T5 would be your best bet

The T6 is not unreliable. Volvo mated a transmission that could not handle the torque from the engine, leading to early gearbox failures. The 3.2l engine used from 07 up was designed to replace it as it was a ford engine anyway.

Other than this your only concern here in Naija is that T6 parts are more expensive

i own one. 2006 FWD 3row. Fuel economy averages 20MPG(when the wife drives), 17MPG when i drive. Great car, drives well and gives you unmatched comfort for its era.
It is not a vehicle for people who are managing. ignore its faults and you could be sorry. it does not like our typical abuse.
Parts are cheaper than 05-06 Highlander by comparison. You can get original parts much cheaper than an original part for highlander.

When you buy:
1. get a scanner that works with Volvos(or know someone who has, or will let you use it freely for a token fee). they cost around 80k
2. Except when working with suspension parts(excluding brakes, self leveling shocks and tire pressure monitors) always do a scan first.
3. Buy original parts when you can. Some parts(not electrical parts) have originals and are available locally
4. Some parts are shared with Ford, use supplier(e.g. bosch) part numbers when using ford parts
5. Get a reliable mechanic, i cant stress this enough. When you do, still don't rely entirely on them
6. Ensure you buy the 5 cylinder version
7. there are many hidden differences between the 05-06 and the 03-04 which many mechanics are not aware of. interchanging these parts leads to issues. watch out for these.
8. If possible, get one that has 2 keys cos key cannot be duplicated here in Naija
