Bouncing back after a seven-year break, Paul Play Dairo recalls the medical challenge that affected his career, writes JAYNE AUGOYE After a seven-year hiatus, ace music producer and artiste, Paul Play Dairo, is working towards staging a big come back. Having dropped a total of five singles since March, he says the response has been massive. In spite of the seeming lull in album sales, the RnB star who says he is up-to- beat with current trends in the music scene, still intends to drop a ‘luxury’ album. “The idea is basically to fill in the gap since my last album and also sample people’s opinion. Thankfully, the online comments have been encouraging. So far, I have recorded 20 songs and some of them have already been released as singles. I am currently tidying my gospel and each track has an element of Nigerian flavor and pop. “The bulk of the money is no longer coming from album sales because these songs are already online and people are downloading them. Music business is now streamlined to performance and endorsement. I am still going ahead with the limited edition album which will be expensive because that way I will be able to control and monitor the sales and distribution,” he discloses. When Paul Play launched his way into the Nigerian music scene in 1999, riding on the goodwill and success of his late father, IK Dairo, he enjoyed solid patronage. Within a short period, he also earned an independent voice of his own, springing hit singles that include Mosorire, Happy Day and Yes O! In 2009, however, his career was threatened when he fell ill in South Africa, while shooting some music videos for his last album and had to be rushed to a hospital. In his absence, the media was awash with speculations over the nature of the illness. It was rumoured that he had cancer, kidney failure to a spiritual attack. Four years after, he has clearly moved on, choosing not to dwell on the nature of the ailment. According to him, the near-death-experience has taught him some lessons. He talks about a few of them in a low tone saying, “It was taught to be scared of God, and not to depend on man because God is ultimate. You don’t have to trust man, but psyche yourself that people are close to you for one reason or quality or the other. I lost many trusted friends during my ailment and gained a few in the process. “There were some who said and did things that made me say ‘Oh, even you too’, but you know it is part of life that when things are down you lose your friends. Right now, I am not afraid of anything. I am stronger and can take whatever life throws at me.” The year 2014 is ‘Paul Play Dairo’s year’, if indications emerging from the soft spoken artiste are anything to go by. For one, he intends to release a Box Set- two albums of highlife and gospel music. The third will be RnB. He says, “It will be a limited edition because it is going to be expensive.I wanted an album that people will like. That’s the reason for the long silence. My management is considering working with a number of new school acts like Inyanya and Wizkid. I am open to work with any artiste, so I don’t end up being an island in the industry. I don’t want to streamline myself only to a group or set of people. I was taking my time to do things right and face other things. I have been able to keep up with the industry online and the commendation I have been receiving ever since is an indication that people have missed me and want me back on the scene.” The one-time Globacom Ambassador adds that so much has changed since his temporary exit from the scene. He says, “The music industry has become saturated. Today, everyone wants to sing so there is limited space to get the desired publicity. But artistes who have pedigree will always fit in, no matter what friends,” he explains. While many artistes of his time, have found it rather difficult to fit into the scene after being away for a long time, Paul Play is optimistic that his fans will embrace his return and warm up to him. He hinges his belief on the fact that Nigerians now embrace indigenous music when compared to the past. “If you say it is difficult to come back and then give up things will pass you buy. If the likes of Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder have stood the test of time, why label yourself as old school? With a good pedigree, people will respect you and with God you can still make a comeback. I don’t intend to stay in music for a long time,’’ he notes. www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/friends-deserted-me-when-i-was-sick.html?m=1

Aminu Lamido and Mustapha Lamido, sons of Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido were arrested yesterday, November 14, 2013 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Dependable sources say they were picked up by operatives of the Commission between 10 and 11.55pm in Kano and have been moved to Abuja, the Commission’s headquarters, where a crack team of investigators will grill them. Their arrest, according to a knowledgeable source, is in furtherance of the investigation that commenced in December 2012 when Aminu Sule Lamido was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano Airport en route Cairo, Egypt for failure to declare the $50,000 he had on him. Though Aminu has since been prosecuted and convicted by a Federal High Court in Kano, investigation as to how he came by the money has led investigations to uncover a web of money laundering in which billions of naira from Jigawa state government accounts are funnelled into the accounts of companies run by the Jigawa state governor and his two sons. Over N10billion is said to have been transferred from Jigawa state government accounts into the accounts in which Sule Lamido and his two sons have interest from 2007 till date. The Commission is said to have traced these transfers to 10 companies where Lamido and sons are directors and signatories to the account. The companies include Bamaina Alluminium Limited, Bamaina Holdings Limited, Bamaina Company Nigeria Limited, Rawda Integrated Services Limited, Speeds International Limited and Saby Integrated Nigeria Limited. The account of these companies received huge cash inflow between 2007 and 2013, a period that coincide with the tenure of Sule Lamido as governor of Jigawa state. For instance in Bamaina Aluminium where Sule Lamido and his two sons are directors, investigations revealed that the company’s account controlled by Mustapha as signatory received total credit of N1.52billion between January 2010 and August 2013. It recorded a total debit of the same amount, with Mustapha and other companies in which Lamido and his sons are directors, being the beneficiaries. In the same vein, Bamaina Holdings Limited’s account with the governor as sole signatory received a total of N1.19billion between February 2007 and July 2013. About N1billion was paid from this account into accounts of companies controlled by the governor and his sons. Massive lodgements were also discovered in the account of Bamaina Company Nigeria limited controlled by Mustapha as sole signatory from Bamaina Alluminium. Between January 2010 and July 2013, the account received over N500million. From the account of Rawda Integrated Services Limited controlled by Mustapha, there have also been massive movement of funds to another company run by Sule Lamido, Speeds International Limited. Speeds’ account recorded a turnover ofN2.2billion between January 2007 and February 2010. In the account of Rawda with a new generation bank investigators discovered the movement of N2.6billion to an unknown signatory. That account recorded over one hundred withdrawals running to over N600milion in cash between November 2007 and April 2008 Saby Integrated Services Nigeria Limited, another company owned by Lamido received over N730million from several Jigawa State government agencies between June 2010 and August 2010. www.saharareporters.com/news-page/efcc-arrests-gov-sule-lamidos-sons-over-n10-billion-money-laundering-fraud www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/efcc-arrests-gov-sule-lamidos-sons-over.html?m=1 |

Nollywood actress, Cossy Orjiakor who has gained a sensational sex identity is currently a happy woman as she is set to hit another gold mine with her endowment. The actress was reported to have agreed to a deal to insure her bloated mammary glands for a whooping $1.6million amounting to N256million. The deal according to source, was introduced to her by an American friend who also dragged Enhanced Silicon Inc. responsible for insuring breasts of famous foreign celebrities into the deal. The company, which insured the bosóms of Pamela Anderson and Dolly Parton agreed to the deal just before Cossy's recent birthday bash, where she displayed her endowments for the world to see. The booby actress will be travelling to Los Angeles in two weeks to sign on the dotted lines. "I specifically asked for $1.6 million," Cossy was quoted as saying. As part of the deal awaiting her signature, there will be limits on how many men and women who would touch her bósoms each month. Also, the bósoms have all been given names and must now be treated as people in future movie roles. That means that Enhanced Silicon Inc. will determine how much a movie producer will pay each bosóm for an appearance in a movie. "The downside of the deal is that I may get dressed', Cossy added. Cossy seems pretty excited about the deal as sources maintained that each of the endowment will be named and anyone who prefers to touch will have to pay for it just as Enhanced Silicon Inc. will henceforth, decide the amount producers will pay per breast, for appearance in a movie. www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/cossy-hits-gold-mine-insures-boobs-for.html?m=1

Drake and his father share a very close relationship. In fact Drake's dad was previously a drummer for Jerry Lee Lewis so it was inevitable that with their shared musical background, a collaboration would happen sooner than later. TMZ recently caught up with Drake's dad and while asking him some questions the rapper's father revealed that they'd recorded a single together. NET has reliably confirmed that Dapo ‘D’banj’ Oyebanjo has signed a multi-million Naira brand endorsement deal with Globacom Nigeria. The Pop star has inked his second endorsement deal with the Nigerian telecommunications company after weeks of deliberations. D’banj now joins the likes of heavyweight contemporary musicians Psquare as well as recently unveiled ambassadors Naeto C, M.I, Lynxxx, Bez, Burna Boy, Flavour, Waje, Omawumi, and little known Chee. Insiders tell us the deal is ‘unbelievable’; with those familiar with details saying it may be one of the costliest signings of 2013. Exact figures were not immediately available. But NET learnt that just like his former deal with the company, this new ambassadorship will also come with added values, including an automobile, and major performance commitments. D’banj and Globacom fell out in 2010 when the pop singer reportedly refused to extend his initial 2008 N70M two-year contract. Glo was allegedly offering something less, far less than what Psquare got (the Pop twins signed a whooping N240M with the company in 2010). The whole trouble had however started back in 2008 when D’banj was replaced by Psquare after he allegedly demanded a N2M fee for every performance at the then GLO Campus Tour. But it’s three years later and plenty has changed. With GLO having lost the biggest names to competition, it’s understandable they’re reuniting with D’Banj, a true superstar with credible fan base, despite not having had a major fresh hit in years. And it’s a coup of sorts – as Etisalat had nearly reached an agreement with D’Banj to be one of their brand ambassadors. Etisalat is already in bed with top rappers Ice Prince and Olamide while there are rumours a 2face Idibia deal is also pending. MTN Nigeria is currently winning the brand ambassadorship war triggered by the recent mobile number portability policy. The market leader has all the star power in their nest with the likes of Don Jazzy, Wizkid, Davido, Iyanya, Tiwa Savage, KCEE and a few other prominent acts all repping ‘yello’. A rep from GLO ‘Charles’ tells us it is not in his place to talk about the signing. D’banj’s manager and Executive Director of DKM Group Tony Nwakalor did not pick or return our calls. ‘D’banj signed with who?!‘, Spice, a rep for D’banj told our reporter, apparently surprised. It is expected that GLO will announce the deal in a matter of days. www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/dbanj-signs-deal-with-globacom.html?m=1

We chalk out nine everyday habits that will help you avoid chest cancer completely. Keep a tab on your weight - Women are more inclined to get chest cancer after they hit menopause. Generally, at this time in their lives, they tend to ignore themselves completely and as a result, put on a lot of weight. So if you want to avoid getting chest cancer, maintain a healthy weight in your late 40s (preferably a body-mass index under 25). Add greens and fruits to your diet - While junk food certainly seems appetizing, your bad calorie count increases. So ditch the fast food and focus on healthy food. Include more raw veggies and fruits in your diet to boost antioxidants and keep disease away. Wear the right bra size - An ill-fitting garment is not only unattractive but also risky. Wear the right bra, which allows your skin to breathe. Self-examination - You know your body like nobody else, so always check for any swellings, dimples on your chest. Women should examine their br**sts regularly. Check family history - You can be susceptible to chest cancer if your family has a history of chest cancer. So check your families medical history, 10 per cent of all chest cancers in the world are genetically transferred. Ditch the alcohol - Alcohol use is associated with an increased risk of chest cancer. Women should limit their intake to not more than one drink per day. It is often the unrestrained copious amount that causes trouble regardless of the type of alcohol. Kick that b*tt - Smoking is associated with more than one type of cancer; cancer risk posed by smoking is real for both women and men. chest-feed your child - Women who chest-feed their babies for at least a year in total have a reduced risk of developing chest cancer later on in life. chest-feeding, temporarily reduces a woman’s estrogen levels. Have regular check-ups and cancer screening tests - A regular check-up after the age of 30 is important; it’s pertinent that you know what your body is going through and how well you can take care of it. Regular mammography and sonography should be a part of your check-up routine. www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/chest-cancer-9-everyday-hab-its-that.html?m=1 |

Pakistan's Taliban have named Mullah Fazlullah as their new leader, after the death of Hakimullah Mehsud in a drone attack. Mullah Fazlullah is a particularly hardline commander whose men shot the schoolgirl activist Malala Yousafzai. Mehsud was killed when missiles struck his vehicle in the North Waziristan region on 1 November. The government had been trying to set up peace talks, but the new leader has already rejected the initiative. The BBC's Richard Galpin in Islamabad says the Taliban have indicated that Mullah Fazlullah wants revenge for the killing of Mehsud. A Taliban spokesman told the BBC the militants would target the military and the governing party. The Mehsud killing had angered the Pakistani government. Interior Minister Chaudry Nisar Ali Khan said that the drone strike was "not just the killing of one person, it's the death of all peace efforts".Mehsud clan The announcement of the new leader was made by the Taliban's caretaker leader Asmatullah Shaheen at a news conference at an undisclosed location. When the news was announced, there was reportedly heavy celebratory gunfire in the area around Miranshah, the main town in the tribal area of North Waziristan. Mullah Fazlullah led a brutal campaign in Swat between 2008 and 2009, enforcing hardline Islamic law, that included burning schools, and public floggings and beheadings. A military operation was launched to retake the area. Mullah Fazlullah fled over the border into Afghanistan but Islamabad says he has continued to orchestrate attacks in Pakistan. He was accused of being behind a roadside bomb in September that killed Maj Gen Sanaullah Niazi, the top commander in Swat, along with two other military personnel. Mullah Fazlullah was known for his radio broadcasts calling for strict Islamic laws and earning him the nickname "Mullah Radio". The shooting of Malala Yousafzai in October 2012 sparked outrage in Pakistan and across the globe. The teenager had spoken out against the Taliban's restrictions on girls' education. She was airlifted to the UK for hospital treatment and now lives in Birmingham with her family. This year Malala, now 16, addressed the UN General Assembly and won the European Union's Sakharov human rights prize. Prior to the latest Taliban announcement, the BBC's M Ilyas Khan in Islamabad said that Mullah Fazlullah was not a member of the Mehsud clan and, if appointed, would face a challenge to control the Mehsud fighters, who make up the bulk of the Taliban's manpower. The Taliban's ruling council took seven days to reach a decision. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had come to power in May pledging a negotiated settlement to the insurgency, but militant attacks continued. The government said a delegation had been due to fly to North Waziristan to discuss peace talks with Hakimullah Mehsud but he was killed in the drone strike the day before. There had been some hope a new leader of the Taliban would be more open to the peace initiative. Regional Taliban commander Khan Said Sajna, said to favour such a move, had been touted as a favourite before the latest announcement. www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/pakistan-taliban-name-mullah-fazlullah.html?m=1 www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-24854087 |
The 2013 edition of the Most Beautiful Girl in Abuja has come and gone with many still talking about the success of the event; however, mix reaction continues to trail the outcome of the event over the controversial revelation by Ruggedman about his experience in the hands of the organizers. Ruggedman who supposedly attended the event alongside other top celebrities to include former Super Eagles Coach, Samson Siasia, Sylver Nduka, MBGN (2011), Oge Okoye, Chuks the General, Matilda Duncan, Fred Bright and a host of others walked away from Abuja, claiming to had been duped by the convener of the event, Mr Ejiro Ekhipwo. In Ruggedman's long write-up, he had rained curses on the organizers for failing to pay him his N100,000 honorarium for the show, and for letting him fly back without a return ticket. But in a swift reaction on behalf of the organizers, Mr. Ejiro denied having done anything wrong to Ruggedman, threatening to sue him for not heeding to the terms of their agreement. He said Ruggedman had pleaded to perform at the show, just to build more fan base as he is about to drop a new album. He said that the so called honorarium that Ruggedman was 'hammering on was only N50,000 and not N100,000 as he had alleged. Ejiro had in a statement issued in Abuja and obtained by DailyPost ,presented his own side of the story. Mr Ejiro had said vehemently that not in the history of the entertainment industry had an artist of Ruggedman's status humiliated himself over such a little amount of money as claimed. The statement below: Hear my own side of the story before you crucify me: First of all, I'm embarrassed that this man, Ruggedman, could bring himself so low by exposing his own shame publicly in the media. I'm embarrassed because no artiste could have done what this guy did to us even when we felt we were doing him a big favour. Look, I have organized several editions of this event, and different artistes have graced our event, but we have never been swindled before. This is our first experience, and unfortunately, it's an artiste who has lost audience appeal that did this to us. I had wanted to let this pass, but since he has gone to humiliate himself in the media, I will follow this up. I'm consulting with my lawyer at the moment, and we may be suing ruggedman for defamation of character, and his failure to heed to our earlier agreement with him. It's amazing the way Ruggedman misbehaved. As a supposed respected elder in the business of entertainment, we never expected that from him. No wonder he had a fight with his boy, 9ice who became bigger and better than him in the music game. Now my story: Quite frankly, what we do when we are bringing an artiste to our show is to pay the person upfront, you give us your most convenient time to travel, and we book your return ticket. It's laughable and extremely ridiculous that Ruggedman is claiming we were to pay him honorarium of N100,000. I couldn't have paid him N100, 000 when he was the one who begged us for the show. He said he wanted an award to get himself acquainted with his Abuja fans. This is not what we would have loved to say in the public domain, if not that he has gone public, because we respect all the artistes we deal with, no matter the status. Having called me personally to beg for the award, we told him, look, we will appreciate your appearance after our event as we did not put you in our budget earlier. We then booked for his flight, we sent him the tickets reference number and he came into Abuja on Friday, the 25th of October, 2013 and was picked up from the airport without delays. He was also checked into a classic hotel with a four star value as agreed, with food and drinks on ground for him to enjoy a day before the event. Ruggedman refused to pick up his calls: He had over 30 missed calls from us. Unfortunately for the MBGA organizers, Ruggedman refused to pick up calls placed to him. In fact, He went ahead to even show some other artistes that were in the hotel with him , that "see, see, see, the organizers of the event are calling me, but I will not pick, I will make them go through hell since they have refused to see me since yesterday that I arrived'' How could he have made such claims. Who picked him up from the airport then? The pack of lies is clearly childish and pointless. Our Bewilderment We wondered at the change of agreement and his refusal to pick up calls. The question was why was our own Ruggedman disgracing himself over N50, 000 that we agreed to pay him after the event? At list, we expected him to pick up his calls and give us his new terms, but he never did. Information got to us that he was to have a meeting with some people that time over his album, the reason he used our show to transport himself to Abuja. We never believed that in the first place, but it got clearer to me the next day, when this guy showed no remorse towards his actions. Funny enough, he was waiting for his return ticket, and his honorarium, and we kept wondering '' what are we honouring him for?''. Appreciating him for eating our food, drinking our bear, wasting our ticket money, time and energy? Appreciating him for rudely and unapologetically denying that we brought him into Abuja, appreciating him for ignoring over 30 missed calls? These were the series of questions begging for answers. Ruggedman, even at that, had the guts to take our case to the media; the world is very funny. Why only Ruggedman? Why not other artistes? If we can invite all the Nollywood acts, artistes and comedians like him, why should we not want to pay him a little amount of N50, 000 only? His unbearable attitude and its effect on his career With an apology, I want to say that Ruggedman is really not a good role model, and that has resulted to his poor performance over time. I think the name rugged is influencing his life and his career. He needs to redefine his name, and what he represents as an artiste. You cannot continue to fight people who try to make you relevant as an entertainer. It's sad. Why did we invite Ruggedman and not an A- list artiste? We knew this guy was not an A-List artist, yet we went ahead to invite him to be awarded, Just to have him get on track. He attested to the fact that we were creating visibility for him, but we were shocked at what we received from him; insults, by putting up a very sad news just to tarnish the good name and record of MBGA event. We won't just let this pass. We will ask some legal questions on why he should come out to castigate us without reasons. We are very sorry for him, because he is going to pay the MBGA for all damages he had caused the event. Why we abandoned him in the hotel after the event We admit that we abandoned him at the hotel in Abuja after the event because he refused to perform his own part of the gentlemen agreement we had. would it have been nice to pay him even when he refused to pick up our calls to perform at the show? Had he performed at the show and we refused to pay him, then his media query would have been a little reasonable. How would he have expected the MBGA to pay for his fare back to Lagos? He is a very nonsensical element and should be treated as such. This same Ruggedman stayed in that same hotel on our bills from Friday, a day before the event till Monday; that is two days after the event. So, we told the hotel to check him out once its 12noon on Monday, the 28th of October 2013. What kind human being is he? How could he be talking about God, when God is already angry with him? This God don suffer for people mouth jor. Our legal war! Rugged man will hear from us very soon. Our lawyers will serve him for damages and he will pay from his nose. It's funny and unfortunate that he can't even afford to answer a case at a competent court of law. I think he needs some help, but he is yet to realize that. How can an artiste be fighting all through his career? Is that supposed to be his own calling? Who threatened who? I did not threaten him, nobody did that, instead, he was using different people to threaten us. I think the guy wants to use us to promote his album, but we won't let his gimmicks distract us, as we will continue to pull great events for Abuja people." Our appeal We sincerely appeal to all our fans to remain calm and focused, believing that we have better things for them. Everybody is a partner in what we do. We do not have any police bosses as claimed by ruggedman. He just deleted me from his Blackberry contact; else, I would have copied all the chats I had with him for you. He did that purposely to conceal our gentleman agreement. Whoever feels so concern can call me on 08034523698 to hear more. I Thank you.
