Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will again have to
borrow for next weekend's 2014 World Cup playoff
against Ethiopia, officials disclosed.
The NFF need at least 50 million Naira for a
November 16 playoff for a place at next year's World
Cup in Brazil.
This cost has been reduced because of the part
sponsorship from the Cross Rivers State
Government.
This will be to cover match bonuses as well as the
return ticket refunds for the team and also logistical
costs.
"We will again be forced to borrow to fund this
match," a top NFF official told MTNFootball.com
"We are seriously broke as we only receive a monthly
subvention of 52 million Naira from government and
this is far from adequate to cover our many costs."
MTNFootball.com was told by officials that NFF
finances took a direct hit when the over 700 million
Naira spent for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations was
removed from the federation's annual budget by
government.
"It was to have been a special grant but government
later decided it should come from our budget,"
another top official said.
Nigeria have a foot at Brazil 2014 after they beat
hosts Ethiopia 2-1 in the first leg of the playoffs last
month. www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/eagles-vs-ethiopia-match-nff-borrows.html?m=1

CelebritiesI’d Give Anything To Work. With Jesse Jags, 2face– Eva Alordiah by simongonner(op): 7:13am On Nov 07, 2013
Barely few years after she ventured into the Nigerian
music terrain, this scintillating singer is gradually
moving up. The Delta state born, rapper, Eva
Alordiah, a.k.a, Eva, in this revealing interview, talks
about her love for dogs and rats; her challenges as a
female rapper and other personal issues.
My name is Eva Alordiah, I am an Isoko girl from
Delta state. I am from a very simple Christian family,
I am a lover of animals. I am a Computer Science
graduate. I have always loved music and I think
doing music now will not be a surprise especially, to
my parents. This is something I have always loved. I
am also, a professional make- up artiste.
*Eva
I have my own make- up outfit here in Lagos. I am
currently doing music and make- up together. I
wanted to be an animator because of my love for
cartoons. I also love to draw and that was why I
studied Computer Science. What I really wanted to
do was computer animation but the course was not
in any Nigerian University curriculum.
So, I decided to start with a first degree in Computer
Science, hoping to move on from there to study
Computer Animation abroad. I am still in love with
that and it is something I would do at a later stage of
my life. Right now, the part of me that likes to draw, I
have converted it to make- up artistry. You know it is
all about drawing and painting. I have not dropped
any album yet but I have dropped a free tape last
year because, my fans wanted that. I am seriously
working on my first full album.
I just finished working with Femi Kuti and Darey Art-
Alade. I chose music because, music is life. Working
with Femi Kuti was a wonderful experience. He is an
amazing friend. We were friends for a while before we
even thought of working together. Connecting with
somebody from that lineage is very imperative. I
think Femi Kuti is such a great mentor to have.
My going into music could be said to be because of
my mother. She was an amazing singer. She used to
sing a lot when we were growing up. She had so
many musical tapes. My mother was a good fan of
Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, amongst others. I would
say that my musical life really started from my
mother. I am also a writer.
When I started writing music, it was just fun. I am
currently a writer for a couple of magazines. I am also
a fashion designer because my mother taught me
how to do so when I was growing up. I know how to
draw, I do make up. I love music, I love to dance and
perform. I love to do anything that is creative.
Coping with other female artistes in the industry will
never be a problem to me because, I am a different
person and they are all different people, and we are
all called to do different things. I have never felt like
I'm competing with any body because everybody has
his/her own part to perform. My name and my style
are unique. My name is not their name and their
names are not my name. I do music my own way ,
likewise everybody. The fact that I don't do what they
do makes me unique.
Talking about my looks, everything goes to my
mother. She is a nurse and she brought us up very
healthy. I have always maintained a strict diet and
exercise. I work- out and exercise a lot. I drink a lot of
water. I don't stress myself because I don't think
there is any need to worry in life. I also trust in God
so much because I know there is nothing too big for
God to do. I try as much as possible to maintain a
very close relationship with God. You know, once in a
while, we fall but I try as much as possible to still
maintain a closer relationship with God.
I think everything that happened to me in the
industry, has a reason. I don't think there is anything
that has happened to me that I regret. Everything
that happened helped me to grow up to the person
that I am now.
The major challenge in promoting a song I would say
is finance. There is no money anywhere. I have to
fend for myself for sometime now. Being a woman
that wants to survive in the industry has many
challenges. I have some personal challenges. There is
no inspiration anywhere. When you let yourself lose
focus because of this, then the challenges come in.
I have gotten to a point where I felt like, I was not
doing music any more. There are some artistes I
could 'kill' to work with; like, Jesse Jags and 2face. I
will also like to work with Sade Adu because I just
feel like we can connect on a bigger level. That is not
just on the barest minimum of music. Music that can
grow a new generation. I will like to grow my music. www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/id-give-anything-to-work-with-jesse.html?m=1

TV/MoviesMandela Movie 'long Walk To Freedom' Gets South Africa Premiere by simongonner(op): 7:04am On Nov 07, 2013
It was decades in the making but the long-awaited
film
based on Nelson Mandela's autobiography is finally
here.
Starring British actor Idris Elba as the beloved South
African icon, "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" had
its
South African premiere Sunday in a buzzing
Johannesburg cinema.
"During the preparation for 'Mandela,' I was very
nervous about my abilities, my capabilities as an
actor," Elba told CNN.
"But then it came to me as I was playing a 70-year-
old
man (that) if you put your mind on something you
can
actually do it," added Elba, famous for his role as a
drug kingpin in U.S. TV series "The Wire."
Read this: How Mandela became a brand
Mandela, 95, did not attend the premiere as he
remains in critical but stable condition in his
Johannesburg home, where he is being looked after
by
a team of military doctors.
Yet relatives, friends and former freedom fighters all
joined the movie's cast and crew in what was an
exciting and emotional gathering.
"It's going to evoke a lot of sad memories for me,"
Ndileka Mandela, the former President's
granddaughter, said at the red carpet before the
film's
screening. "His incarceration was not a good time for
me as his grandchild and for the family as a whole."

Based on Mandela's autobiography, also called "Long
Walk to Freedom," the biopic follows Mandela's life
journey from his childhood growing up in a rural
village, through the anti-apartheid struggle and
prison
years, to his inauguration as the first democratically
elected president of South Africa.
The film's producer, South African Anant Singh, says
he first started corresponding with Mandela about
the
movie's rights when the iconic leader was still behind
bars.
"It began almost 25 years ago to try and get this
story
and to bring it to the big screen," Singh told CNN
earlier this year. "I have letters in his handwriting
modestly saying, 'will people actually want to see a
film about my life?'"
Watch this: Turning Mandela's life into a blockbuster
Singh announced Tuesday that the film will be
screened at the White House on November 7.
"It is an exceptional honor to have the film screening
hosted by President Obama at the White House as it
is
the first for a South African film," said the movie
producer. "It is also of special significance as it
connects Madiba and President Obama as statesmen
who were responsible for major paradigm shifts in
their respective countries and who have special
places
in the hearts of their people."
The movie is directed by Justin Chadwick ("The Other
Boleyn Girl," "The First Grader"wink and also features
fellow Briton Naomie Harris ("Skyfall"wink as Mandela's
second wife, Winnie.
"This is the biggest film ever to be made in South
Africa," added Singh. "We have two foreign actors
and
the (other) 143 are all South African. What we've
tried
to do is make a South African film and make in a way
that it can engage audiences everywhere."
"Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" will be released in
South Africa on November 28 and one day later it will
premiere in in New York and Los Angeles. www.cnn.com/2013/11/05/showbiz/mandela-movie-long-walk-freedom/ www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/mandela-movie-long-walk-to-freedom-gets.html?m=1

and the young talent declined.
"Yvonne wanted to take her relationship with
Iyanya to the next level but they weren't on the

her.Yvonne sat down and told Iyanya that she
wanted to get even more serious and take the next

you turn her down. That's all bad. Like game over."

SportsWe’ll Swoop On Sweden – Eaglets by simongonner(op): 10:40am On Nov 05, 2013
Golden Eaglets have promised Nigerians a goals
feast in today's FIFA U-17 World Cup semifinal match
with Sweden at Rashid Stadium, Dubai.
Eaglets have scored 20 goals in five matches, the
most by any team in the tournament holding in the
United Arab Emirates and as they gear up for another
match with the Swedes, who they held to a 3-3
thrilling draw at the Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium in Al
Ain, the
Nigerians, who could only manage to score twice in
Saturday's quarter final win against Uruguay, say
goals will come aplenty against the Scandinavians.

"I am confident the team will score many goals
against Sweden", said midfielder Akinjide Idowu,
ruled out of today's game because of two yellow
cards. "Even though I am not going to play, I am very
confident that the other players will do well.
Sweden are good but we want this win more and are
ready to go the extra mile to achieve our
target",added Idowu at the pre-match conference.
Also speaking, Coach Manu Garba said the match will
be played with all seriousness, noting that "we can't
afford to go back to Nigeria empty handed without
the cup. These boys will win tomorrow (today) and go
on to win the Cup.
It's the Cup or nothing for us. The game will be tight
but the players are ready to score many goals
against Sweden.
"I repeat that it is the Cup or nothing for us. We have
come a long way and can't afford to lose now. We will
beat Sweden", added Garba, who conceded that
Sweden are good in the air.
"They have tall players, which make them good with
aerial balls but I have the antidote to cut off their
crosses". www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/well-swoop-on-sweden-eaglets.html?m=1

CelebritiesNollywood Sexiest Men And Women by simongonner(op): 10:27am On Nov 05, 2013
Nollywood Sexiest Men and Women
Finally, the quest is coasting home to the climax
when the Sexiest Man and Woman shall be unveiled.
Making the top ten is as good as going all the way
even when the prizes will go the way of the top three
winners.
The latest development has seen Benjamin Joseph
and Nadia Buari taking their bow, wth the top ten
emerging for the final lap. For the duo, it was like an
handwriting on the wall as they have been tottering
on the edge of 'drop zone' for weeks now.
How they stand.
Men
Yul Edochie: Yul hasn't got anything to worry about
almost from the beginning of the 'quest'. The first
spot for him has been a sort of birthright.
Ramsey Nouah: Ramsey is still on second but for him
to remain so or move up, he will all the help he can
get. Shaking at 2nd.
Benson Okonkwo: Benson started as a low shot who
is beginning to riding home like a prince in shinning
armor. Each week has been an eventful one. Holding
on to 3rd,
Pope Odowondo: There hasn't been much separating
Pope from Benson until a couple of weeks back when
he let slip on his hold, thus allowing Benson a thrust
forward. 4th place still.
Uti Nwachukwu: Uti always looked like a trouble
brewing. Now as we come to the next phase he has
overtaken Frank Artus, who is looking more shaky
everyday. Uti is now 5th
Frank Artus: The Ghanaian star is practically living on
the edge after having pushed to the 3rd spot and
then finding himself on 6th now.
Ali Nuhu: Ali has been the quiet one, though, not
without some measure of strength pushing him
along. This gut seems to have a faithful follower-ship
that don't give up easily. 7th place not bad.
Van Vicker: Another Ghanaian that started like a
train ready to devour everything along its path, but
somehow lost the will to fight. He started on 2nd, 3rd
but now chilling at 8th
Odunlade Adekola: The only Yoruba star left in the
'quest' and this may turn out to be a strength rather
than a weakness but whichever way it swings, a
couple of months is all that is there to see. On 9th.
Mike Ezuruonye: Mike was looking like a guy on his
way out a couple of weeks back but by some touch of
genius he is still in the reckoning. Last man in at
10th.
Women:
Tonto Dikeh: Tonto is now hanging on to the first
place with all the tenacity she can muster because
the next person to her is breathing hot down her
neck.
Stephanie Okereke: Stephanie keeps missing
shooting off Tonto by hairsbreadth but yet nothing
missing her in her range. The ding-dong continues
between the two. Nevertheless Stephanie remains
2nd.
Ebube Nwabo: Still keeping her 3rd spot even though
Yvonne looks to be having bad intention week in,
week out about her. The duo are also having a tussle
of sort.
Yvonne Nelson: Yvonne is still at 4th but very
restless. Though she lost her grip when she moved to
2nd at a point but she's coming back so strong again.
Angela Okorie: Angela has the funniest story among
the lots. At a point she was put up for eviction, then
surviving it, she seemed to develop a phobia for the
exit as she has pushed herself up to the 5th.
Colette Orji: Colette too has had a scary time at one
point or the other but she has survived and still
surviving. She holds on to the 6th place.
Biodun Okeowo: Biodun is also the only Yoruba
actress remaining in the 'quest' and what a week she
has had as she has moved to the 7th place.
Queeneth Hilbert: Queeneth is as good as they come
even though she has had some turbulent stay in the
quest. She's now on 8th spot
Cynthia Agholor: Cynthia isn't having a bad run, it is
just that the 'quest' is getting more intense and too
erratic for anyone to be able to stick to anything. She
remains on 9th
Rita Dominic: Our leading lady isn't having a fairytale
outing in this 'Sexiest' business. She has come short
of expectation but hanging on by the strand of her
hair at 10th. www.oseni9ja..com/2013/11/nollywood-sexiest-men-and-women.html?m=1

President Goodluck Jonathan
| credits: File copy
President Goodluck Jonathan wrote the House of
Representatives on Tuesday seeking to present the
estimates of the 2014 budget to a Joint Session of
the National Assembly.
In the letter read by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Emeka
Ihedioha, the President sought to be allowed to
present the estimates on November 12.
Part of the letter read, “I write to crave your kind
indulgence to grant me the slot of 12:00 noon on
Tuesday, November 12, 2013 to enable me to
formally address a Joint Session of the National
Assembly on the 2014 Budget.
“While thanking the Honourable Members of the
House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria for the constancy of their support, please
accept, Rt. Hon Speaker, the assurances of my
highest consideration.”
However, Ihedioha, who presided over Tuesday’s
sitting, also read the riots act to standing
committees of the House over their slow pace of
work.
He directed them to submit their oversight reports
on the 2013 budget to the House on Thursday.
The House had adjourned twice since September to
give the committees enough time to conclude their
oversight visits to ministries, departments and
agencies of the Federal Government.
Lawmakers had said that they would use the reports
of the oversight as a guide in considering the 2014
budget.
Members only reconvened on October 22.
But, on Tuesday, Ihedioha disclosed that only 10 out
of over 90 standing committees had submitted the
reports of their findings on budget performance.
He warned that the leadership would be forced to
name any committee that failed to produce its report
by Thursday.
In a related matter, a member from Edo State, Mr.
Rasaq Bello-Osagie, complained that the House was
being portrayed in bad light by committees that
failed to execute assignments referred to them. www.punchng.com/news/jonathan-writes-reps-presents-2014-budget-nov-12-2/
PoliticsFormer Chief Of General Staff Admiral Mike Akhigbe Dies From Throat Cancer by simongonner(op): 6:53am On Oct 29, 2013
Admiral Mike Akhigbe
By SaharaReporters, New York
Retired Admiral Mike Okhai Akhigbe, who played
several roles in a number of military regimes in
Nigeria, passed away today in New York City,
SaharaReporters has confirmed.
A source close to the family told our
correspondent that Mr. Akhigbe breathed his last
at 1.06 p.m. (New York time). He was surrounded
by his wife, his children, and their spouses, our
source disclosed.
The cause of death was throat cancer, said the
source. SaharaReporters learnt that the former
military administrator of Ondo and Lagos States
first experienced symptoms of his disease in
2010. He was engaged in President Goodluck
Jonathan’s campaign at the time, but took a leave
to fly to Germany where doctors gave him the
grim diagnosis. For three years, he underwent
treatment for his cancer in Germany, the UK and
the United States of America before finally
succumbing to the disease earlier today. Over the
last one month, the former naval officer received
treatment at the Memorial Sloane Kettering
Cancer Hospital in Manhattan. The hospital is one
of the top treatment facilities for cancer in the
world.
The Nigerian Consulate in New York also
confirmed Mr. Akhigbe’s death, adding that they
were conferring with the late officer’s family on
plans to convey his remains back to Nigeria for
burial.
Mr. Akhigbe worked under military regimes led by
Ibrahim Babangida, Sani Abacha, and
Abdulsalami Abubakar, holding positions at
various times as a governor or member of the
armed forces ruling council. He rose to become
the Chief of General Staff under the Abdulsalami
Abubakar regime. He was retired from military
service in 1999 just as Olusegun Obasanjo took
over power as Nigeria’s elected president.
The late naval officer, who hailed from Edo State,
was 67 years old.

EducationFG Stops Salaries Of Striking Lecturers by simongonner(op): 7:06am On Oct 11, 2013
ABUJA—As the ongoing strike by Academic Staff
Union of Universities, ASUU, enters the fourth month,
there are strong indications that the Federal
Government has commenced the implementation of
the “No Work, No Pay” rule.
Vanguard gathered from a reliable source at the
National Universities Commission, NUC, that the
government has passed a directive to the various
universities governing councils to stop payment of
salaries of the striking lecturers.
The ASUU Zonal Chairman in Abuja, Mr Clement
Chup confirmed this yesterday after a zonal
conference of ASUU, University of Abuja chapter,
which took place at the Gwagwalada campus to
review the nationwide strike.
He said his colleagues were yet to receive their
September salaries.
According to him, “we have resorted to other welfare
strategies to cope with the effect of the strike,
particularly to contain the various attempts by
government to break the resolve of the union. The
Federal Government has through the National
Universities Commission, directed universities to
stop the payment of our salaries effective September
this year and since then our salaries have not been
paid.
“Part of the welfare strategy, involved distributing
food items, giving out soft loans and cash advances
to members.”
He urged members of the public to ignore the
rumour that the strike has been called off. He said:
“Nigerians should disregard rumours making the
