By means of a telephone conference, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has today taken a decision to sanction the Cape Verdean Football Association (FCF) for fielding an ineligible player in the preliminary competition match for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ between Tunisia and the Cape Verde Islands on 7 September 2013. The match has been declared to be forfeited and awarded 3-0 in favour of Tunisia, meaning that the Cape Verde Islands will not progress to round three of the FIFA World Cup™ African zone qualifiers having dropped to second place in Group B with nine points while Tunisia finish first with 14 points and will now advance. The FCF has also received a fine of CHF 6,000 after the FIFA Disciplinary Committee considered the FCF liable for having breached art. 55 par. 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and art. 8 of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Regulations. The sanction relates to the Cape Verde player Fernando Varela failing to serve the full four-match suspension imposed on him after receiving a red card for unsporting conduct towards a match official during a FIFA World Cup™ qualifier on 24 March 2013. The draw for round three of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the African zone will be conducted next Monday, 16 September. The five best-placed sides in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, which will be released today following the outcome of this disciplinary case, will be seeded in the draw. www.simaoatbpress..com/2013/09/cape-verde-sanctioned-tunisia-through.html?m=1 www.touch.fifa.com/newscentre/news/newsid=2172738.html |

United States has expressed worry over the lingering feud between the Federal Government and the striking public universities' lecturers over their demand for better working conditions. The US also warned against the activities of touts who deceive intending students from Nigeria. Addressing journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, the US Embassy Cultural Affairs Officer, Bill Strassberger, urged the government to resolve the crisis with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, saying "it is a fear, it is a worry for us." Nigeria currently has about 7,028 students studying at over 700 institutions in the USA. He said, "That is something for the Nigerian government. It is up to it to work it out with the striking lecturers. "We are not involved in that negotiation but we can encourage. It is a fear, it is a worry for us because that would make it hard for the students to come. "It may be difficult, but there is no magic wand to resolve the strike," Strassberger added. Advising Nigerians to shun those who parade themselves as agents, Strassberger said accurate information regarding studying in the US could be obtained from the embassy. "Those are the touts, those are the people that I will even call criminals because they are stealing opportunities by selling only documents by giving bad information and creating a disappointment when the person comes in with that information or with only document. And that is the result of not getting accurate information," he said. Earlier, the Head, EducationUSA, Jennifer Onyukwu, said the ASUU's strike would affect intending students from Nigeria who wish to study in the US because of the need to obtain their transcripts. "There is that concern because generally, the world has become a global village, people want stronger applicants in their campuses; so they want stronger senders," she said. Onyukwu revealed that from statistics, Nigeria was US's largest sender of students from sub-saharan Africa to the US. www.simaoatbpress..com/2013/08/us-expresses-worries-over-asuufg-impasse.html?m=1 |
The Police in Bayelsa State have arrested a 36-year- old man identified as Paul Yempe in Yenagoa, the state capital, for claiming to be a correspondent of the Cable News Network in the Niger Delta. A source close to the police said the suspected fake CNN reporter was arrested with identity cards of the Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation and that of the CNN. It was learnt that Yempe was arrested in the office of the state's Commissioner for Energy, Mr. Akio Francis. PUNCH Metro gathered that his apprehension was made possible by the coincidental presence of the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bayelsa State chapter, Mr. Tare Akono. Sources within the NUJ and the SSS said the fake reporter had allegedly swindled the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Markson Fefegha, and the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Edmund Allission-Oguru. They said while Fefegha allegedly parted with a huge sum of money to feature the activities of Governor Seriake Dickson on the CNN, the SSG was alleged to have kept the suspected fake reporter in a luxury hotel in Yenagoa while perfecting a memo to raise money to pay for the anticipated documentary on CNN before the truth was revealed. Reacting to the development, Akono said, "Attempts by the fake journalist to affirm his genuineness led to the discovery of a fake CNN ID card in his bag. "He came to the office of the commissioner claiming to have come for an interview as part of a documentary he was working on for the state. "When he came in, we asked him for his camera but he said he was using his mobile phone as a recorder. When we further interrogated him, we noticed he was a fake reporter as he started shivering and confessing he was not a CNN employee. That was how we handed him over to the police." The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, confirmed the arrest. "We have arrested the man. The matter is under investigation," Akhigbe said. www.simaoatbpress..com/2013/08/police-arrest-fake-cnn-reporter-in.html?m=1 |
Justin Timberlake had an amazing night at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, but what does he think about Miley Cyrus twerking with bears and Robin Thicke on the VMA stage? During an interview with Hot 97 Tuesday, the “Suit & Tie” singer and former “Mickey Mouse Club” child- star said the VMAs wouldn’t be the VMAs if something crazy or weird didn’t happen. “I saw it. The best part of the performance is the Smith family reaction shot. It’s just like this is not Calabasas. I mean I don’t look at Miley that way. The first time I met her, she was ’Hannah Montana’,” Timberlake told Angie Martinez. “My thoughts on it are it’s the VMAs. You know what I mean? It’s not the Grammys. We’re talking about Madonna in a wedding dress humping the stage. We’re talking about Britney doing a striptease. This is not uncommon. I’m saying she’s young. I think the song is jamming when I hear it on the radio. I liked all the bears.'' www.simaoatbpress..com/2013/08/justin-timberlake-talks-miley-cyrus.html?m=1
