SportsMessi Surpasses Raul To Break Another Record by simplyolat(op): 11:45pm On Nov 01, 2016
The records continue to tumble for Lionel Messi after he netted a 54th goal in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday.
Lionel Messi set another record on Tuesday after scoring a 54th goal in the Champions League group stage.
The Argentina star started and finished a wonderful Barcelona move which put his side 1-0 up against Manchester City at the Etihad – sending Neymar away down the left before sprinting the length of the field to take a return pass in his stride and stroke the ball past Willy Caballero.
The goal means Messi has now edged ahead of Raul as the leading scorer in group stage football in Europe’s premier club competition.
Former Real Madrid striker Raul managed his 53 goals for Los Blancos and Schalke.

Romance7 Types Of Girls You Shouldn’t Date If You Don’t Want To Die by simplyolat(op): 1:51pm On Aug 22, 2016
There are certain types of women you do not want to date and doing so would amount to making the worst mistake in your life. Even though you feel you could love none other at the moment than that girl who falls into any of the under listed categories, take some advice and find a cure for your love before it buries you underneath a truckload of crap!

These set of girls are so hot, they can burn:

1. Your best friend’s sister

This rarely goes well, be it in Nollywood, Hollywood or real life. To the girls it is not a big deal to go out with their brother’s friend, but guys remember, it is not a good idea, and make sure you do not allow the ladies folks lure you into such a relationship.

Guys, your friend does not want you close to his sister probably because he knows your mode of operation and he does not want his sister to become a name in your hall of fame. Besides that, would it not be awkward for you to start sharing relationship details with your girlfriend’s brother

Remember, if you are really serious, talk to your friend about it first. And even if he approves, accept the possibility of losing that friendship. You win the girl and lose a friend

Worst case scenario, you break her heart and you get into a fight with your best friend, you lose the girl and a friend.

2. In a relationship

When a girl is already in a relationship before you meet her, the best thing for you is to leave her alone. There is no way it is going to turn out good.

If a girl is in a relationship before you met her, and she still agrees to date you, what does that tell you? Yes, she is not the faithful type and definitely not a keeper.

If she is in a relationship and refused to go out with you because she is in a relationship, then that is a trait you should admire, too bad she is not faithful to you. And you should not wait by the corner waiting for another man’s relationship to crash.

Even if you decide to be just friends, you already like her, and might put her relationship with the other guy in jeopardy.

3. The Underage

This might seem like common sense, but some people need to be reminded.

It does not matter how big the girl appears, or how matured she seems. As long as a girl is below 18 in Nigeria, she is clearly off limits.

4. The Superstar

Everybody girl deserves some attention from her lover (to show her that you love her). Some girls just think that the world is a stage and they are the star. When she talks, she wants everybody to listen, when she is in trouble, everybody should console her.

She wants to be the center of your life, having no regard for your sibling, parents, friends and sometimes even your job. She is ready to anything for special attention; cry, play victim, lie, just about anything. As long as you supply her with an unending supply of attention she if okay.

At first, you would be flattered that you mean so much to somebody and then she would begin to sap the living being out of you, the stress would make look twice your age and if you do not get away from such a girl in time, you might just visit your ancestors a lot earlier than you planned.

5. High Maintenance

If your income is trailing behind her needs then it would be a good idea to run ‘440’ for your dear life and pocket. At first, you might kid yourself into thinking that as time goes by her needs are going to dwindle. You continue to kid yourself until you realize that the goal of this girl is to bankrupt your future.

It is almost impossible to have a relationship without spending money, but if her love for you is going to be on a per-second-billing then you should also know that you will be disconnected when you run out of “airtime” and she is going to “port” to the next guy with the most cash.

6. The ex-girlfriend

There is a reason why she is your ex, you should never forget that. You might be tempted go back to your ex whenever you are bored or lonely.

As a rule, you never go back to your ex-girlfriends. It is like the proverbial going back to your vomit.

You might start to get nostalgic and all, but you should remember that there was a reason she is in your past and that should be the same reason she should remain there.

7. Your co-worker

Your co-worker is one girl that should not be on your radar when searching for a relationship.

You could lose your job because of this girl and she might dump you three days after you get fired for having an affair with her.

Even if you do not get fired because of her, you might create unnecessary enemies, especially when she is hot and everybody wants her, including your boss.

She is also going to be a huge source of distraction. And just in case she is the boss’ daughter, it is a huge no-no.

Sports2016 Rio Olympics: Brazil To Distribute 9 Million Condoms by simplyolat(op): 1:12pm On Jul 05, 2016
Brazil’s government will hand out nine million
condoms for free around Rio de Janeiro
during the Olympics in August, a push meant
to encourage safe s** and also defend the
Amazon rainforest.
Rio’s local Olympic organizing committee
said about 450,000 of the sustainably-
produced condoms would be destined for
athletes and staff housed in the Olympic
Village.
The rest will be made widely available to the
many visitors who will be arriving in the city
in just a few weeks, the Health Ministry said.
All the condoms to be distributed are
produced by Natex, a factory in the western
Amazonian state of Acre, deep in the
rainforest near Brazil’s border with Bolivia.
The factory, run by the Acre state government,
uses latex gathered from Amazon rubber trees
by tappers who are employed by a
government-run program designed to protect
their traditional livelihood, foster sustainable
use of the rainforest and deter illegal loggers.
The tappers see themselves as guardians of
the rainforest.
On a recent outing, Raimundo Mendes de
Barros, a 71-year-old lifelong rubber tapper
with a stark white beard, gathered the milky-
white latex dripping into metal buckets hooked
at the base of countless trees. Above, the
tropical sun was filtered by the Amazon
canopy.
Barros spoke with pride about the fierce fight
he and other sustainable rubber tappers wage
to maintain their craft.
"Our condom factory, aside from guaranteeing
a fair price for the rubber, employs hundreds,”
he said.
“It gives the world a product – the condom –
that will be very present there in Rio, to fight
disease and help with birth control.”
For decades, tappers like Barros have been on
the front line of pushing Brazilian leaders to
do more to halt deforestation, which is mostly
caused by the illegal clearing of forest for
ranching, soy farms and timber extraction.
The fight has sometimes come at a heavy
cost as farmers and loggers have sometimes
retaliated with hired guns. Scores of people
have been killed over the years trying to
protect the forest, most notably the
internationally known environmentalist and
rubber tapper Chico Mendes.
His 1988 murder in Xapuri, where the condom
factory now stands, helped galvanise the
government to take serious measures to battle
deforestation and the violence against Amazon
defenders.
For several years Brazil’s Health Ministry has
distributed millions of condoms from the
factory for free at big events around Brazil –
most notably the annual bacchanal of
Carnival.

three banks that were among the top 1000 banks
last year dropped out of the ranking. From the 13
banks that featured in the ranking in 2015, 0nly ten
made it this time around.
The Banker in a statement said “Mirroring the Top
25 African banks ranking in 2015, three South
African lenders, Standard Bank, FirstRand and
Nedbank, have secured the respective top three
positions. But a closer look at their performance
reveals that all of these banks have suffered in the
rankings largely as a result of the depreciating
rand. Standard Bank’s total Tier 1 capital in the
2016 edition is $7.48bn, down from $10.19bn in
the 2015 ranking. In the global rankings, Africa’s
largest bank has now fallen from 123rd place to
160th.
“FirstRand fared slightly better, with Tier 1 capital
declining marginally from $7.98bn in the 2015
ranking to $7.18bn in the 2016 edition. All six
South African banks in this year’s Top 1000 World
Banks ranking registered a fall in Tier 1 capital. In
each case, this decline was by more than 10% year
on year.
Global ranking
“For Africa’s other major banking market, Nigeria,
it was a similar story. In 2015, 13 lenders from the
country were featured in the global ranking. In
2016 this has fallen to 10, with only two banks,
Access Bank and Ecobank Nigeria, registering
gains to their Tier 1 capital positions. This reflects
the difficulties faced by the continent’s second
biggest oil producer over the review period as low
oil prices began to take their toll. Togo’s Ecobank
Transnational has retained its global ranking of
306th and has moved up the regional table one
place to sixth.
“Beyond these larger markets, some African
lenders have performed relatively well in the 2016
rankings. Building on their success in previous
years, all three entries from Kenya recorded
positive Tier 1 capital growth. Kenya Commercial
Bank and Equity Bank both joined the continent’s
Top 25 table in 2016 with a respective 2.24% and
29.82% growth in Tier 1 capital. The relative
strength of this performance can in part be
attributed to the performance of the Kenyan shilling
in 2015, which declined modestly against the US
dollar relative to many other African currencies.
Meanwhile, the dominance of Egyptian lenders in
the top five banks by return on capital table has
been cemented with the addition of Banque Misr,
though the list is topped by Ethiopia’s CBE.
“The depreciating rand and falling oil prices have
caused trouble in Africa, with South African and
Nigerian lenders slipping down the overall
rankings, but Kenyan entrants still managed to
show Tier 1 growth. A number of Africa’s largest
banking markets faced severe challenges over the
2015 review period. Tumbling commodity prices
and volatile currency movements all contributed to
the generally weak performance of most of the
continent’s big hitters in the 2016 ranking. In
aggregate terms, the continent’s total Tier 1 capital
fell by 12.77%, accompanied by similar hits to
both profitability and asset growth”.
The release further said “Chinese banks continue
to dominate The Banker’s latest global ranking of
Top 1000 banks, but they are showing signs of
slowing down. Their profits fell 3.5% – the first
drop since 2004 – and bad loans are on the rise,
reflecting a weaker Chinese economy.
For the last few years China ’s banks have
dominated the ranking based on Tier 1 capital.
This year Industrial and Commercial Bank of China
(ICBC) remains number 1 and China Construction
Bank number 2, with 4 out of the top 5 places held
by Chinese banks.
“Major Chinese banks grew their capital faster than
their assets last year suggesting that they are
becoming cautious and there are also signs of
rising bad loans,” said The Banker’s editor Brian
Caplen. “All the same, Chinese banking profits are
by far the world’s largest and far higher than those
of US and European banks.”
US banks did well in the ranking with JP Morgan
placing third, Bank of America 6th, Citigroup 7th
and Wells Fargo 8th. French banks remain
competitive, with Credit Agricole staying in 11th
place and BNP Paribas in 12th. French bank profits
grew by 30% while both UK and German banks
lost ground.
“UK bank profits fell 22% and HSBC is now the
only British bank in the global top 10, placing 9th.
The outlook for UK banks is even more uncertain
following the surprise UK vote to leave the
European Union. Back in 2006, before the financial
crisis, HSBC was the world’s second largest bank,
and Royal Bank of Scotland the 7th largest.
Losses at Royal Bank of Scotland and Standard
Chartered, and profit falls at Barclays and Lloyds,
helped pull down UK profits. German bank profits
fell 63%, reflecting an impact from the eurozone
crisis, and are now behind those of Azerbaijan,
Kazakhstan, India and Brazil.
Key emerging markets
Germany’s leading bank Deutsche fell into a loss
and an 18% decrease in capital – the largest
among the top 25 banks – sent the bank tumbling
from 16th to 21st in the global ranking. Back in
2006 Europe’s banks contributed 42% of global
banking profits. Now they only contribute 16%. By
contrast, China’s share has gone from 4% to 32%.
The US share has remained more constant at 27%
in 2006 and 21% now.
“Key emerging markets such as Brazil, India and
Russia performed badly in the ranking due to sharp
decreases in their currencies against the dollar
and/or falls in commodity prices causing
economic slowdowns.
Russia’s Sberbank dropped 12 places from 43 to
51 and Brazil’s Itau fell 16 places from 41 to 57.
Indian bank profits fell 65% and a number of Indian
banks fell into losses.
But the best returns on capital are still to be found
in emerging markets with 28% average returns in
Africa, 22% in central and south America and 16%
in Asia compared to 8% in western Europe”.

CrimeMaryland Riots: Lagos Clarifies Misconception Says Hawker Not Killed By BRT by simplyolat(op): 10:51pm On Jun 29, 2016
The Lagos State Government has clarified the misconception surrounding the unfortunate incident where a street hawker was knocked down by an oncoming truck at Maryland Bus Stop on Wednesday. The street hawker, who was trying to evade arrest from officials of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), had attempted to cross the road before being hit by the truck, which was erroneously thought to be a BRT Bus. As a result, hoodlums armed with sticks and stones, immediately descended on some BRT buses plying the route as at the time of the incident and in the process destroyed several of the BRT buses. But the Government in a statement signed the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, said that contrary to the information being circulated in the social media that the street hawker was hit by a BRT bus, it was a truck belonging to a soft drink company that unfortunately hit the boy. “It wasn’t any of our buses that killed him (hawker), it was a soft drink company truck that unfortunately crushed the boy while he was trying to escape from KAI officers who were on patrol trying to rid the street of street hawkers and traders. “But hoodlums now took advantage of that to start destroying government assets, including several of the brand new BRT buses,” he said. Ayorinde said it took the intervention of a team from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to quell the riotous scene caused by the hoodlums before the corpse of the boy was taken to the morgue at the General Hospital, Ikeja. The Commissioner said that at least three hoodlums alleged to have been part of the mob that destroyed the BRT buses have been arrested, saying that the law would take its full course. “The Lagos State Government would like to use this opportunity to further reiterate that it would not relent in ridding the state of illegality, street trading and hawking,” he said. Ayorinde said that Section one of the Lagos State Street Trading and Illegal Market Prohibition Law 2003, restricts street trading and hawking in the metropolis, while Sections Seven and Eight of the same law gives jurisdiction and power to the Special Court to order the seizure and public auction of items impounded from street traders. Section 10 of the law, he said, also prescribes a N5000 fine or three months imprisonment upon conviction. “Street traders are hereby urged to desist from this illegal activity because the government will not be blackmailed and would do that which is necessary. “And for the miscreants and hoodlums, the Lagos State Government and the Police Command would not allow any act of civil disobedience and those arrested would be dealt with in accordance with the law and further arrests would be made as investigation continues,” he said.
