killemslim: All those people advicing and saying they've lived and worked in both cities, what chased you guys?? Sack or environment??
OP you did not state the type of business you're into tho but from living experience in Lagos I'll say if you can't adapt to competition and Streesssssssss then Lagos is a no no. If your business is something related to instant services (customer based)you can create your nitch anywhere, so save yourself ur health and spend a little more settling in Abuja. Remember health is wealth. My type of business is foreign doors importation. Please advice me sir?. |

NwanyiAwkaetiti: Abuja is expensive but a place to settle and start up a family because of its serenity. Unlike Lagos that is so populated and stressful.
There are many deep pockets here that will take you higher if you package your business well.
Abuja is the best for me. I'm looking for a place to start up a business and maximize profits and returns within a short period, therefore channeling every possible energy into the business at hand. Importation of foreign doors is what i intend to start with, and currently, Lagos is filled with importers who are into the same line of business. They tend to generate competition. On the other hand, where in Abuja can such a business be located, and what's the minimum house rent fee?. Thank you very much for your time and reply ma |

domainsales18: Hey Op,
Your question is quite interesting for the newbies...I was born and bred in Lagos...Presently, I have been residing in Abuja since 2012...Let compare and contrast both cities for more illumination.
1. Transportation Lagos transportation system is quite hectic...You need to be strong to board a commercial vehicle in Lagos...There's a lot of pushing, shoving and insults...On several occasions, phones and bags are stolen...Lagos traffic is like another issue entirely...You can be in a traffic for like 2hours without any of the vehicles moving...I mean every vehicles will be in a gridlock...For someone getting to his/her destinations takes a lot of hours coupled with the stress of sitting uncomfortably in one position...Getting home, one is tired and worn out...Eventually, the lifespan of a Lagosian is usually divided by a quarter. Abuja is not like that...The traffic is very smooth and you will get to your office within 45minutes long...In the case, there's traffic, the vehicles usually move and clears up within few minutes compared to Lagos...Lastly on this, Abuja roads are way sleeky and motorable, even during rainy season.
2. Accommodation Lagos accommodation is nothing to write home about, as majority of the houses are in a state of moribund and dilapidation...The rent paid in Lagos is up the mountains for the high brow areas in Lagos, unless one want to go to a slum area to rent an eyesore of a structure deprived of the needed facilities...In Abuja here, you will see affordable houses like one-bedroom flat with facilities of N150,000 but not exceeding N250,000 in good areas...A nice one-bedroom of this standard in Lagos goes for more than N400,000...You can agree with me here that Abuja homes are very affordable.
3. Electricity In Abuja, the area I stay always have constant, I mean constant (20-24hours of light)...You can't compare that with Lagos...When I was in Lagos, the electricity supply is way below expectations...The mosquitoes always had field days with us then because of no light for fans to blow them off.
4. Air As a result of the constant supply of light in Abuja and its environs, there are fewer generators that would have been polluting the air with the dangerous carbon monoxide which would have impaired the health of the inhabitants and animals here...That's why people here always have higher lifespans, as they enjoy the undiluted air, free from nature...Less people go to the hospitals here. You can hardly find people with asthma and other lung diseases...Lagos is so choked up that breathing is quite a laborious activity...Did I forget to tell you folks that, the waste management system here works 100%...You hardly find dumpsites and garbage piled up here...Lagos is an eyesore filled with dumpsites and littered with wastes everywhere.
5. Business I must confess that Lagos is way up the league in this area, as there are many opportunities abounding in Lagos...What's the essence of business? Is it not to make money, send your children to school, pay bills, buy a car and build a house?Sure, you can make money anywhere if you have the right information and materials at your disposal...Some people are making millions of naira at the comfort of their homes without the 9-5pm type of jobs...Thousands of people are making it more than those in Lagos...Business in Lagos is over hyped...You can virtually make your money anywhere.
6. Crime Rate The crime rate in Lagos is growing at a geometric progression because of the population over there...In Lagos, the rate of cultism, kidnapping, suicide, prostitution, armed robbery, burgling, pick pocketing, yahoo, yahoo plus and ritualism has skyrocketed...Lives are not really safe in Lagos...You can't walk easy on the roads because you might be attacked by all these area boys (alayes) and the rest...This is not so in Abuja...Here, we sleep with our two eyes closed...You can carry your costly phones and laptops on the streets without any form of molestation...Nobody is ready to snatch your IPhone from you because everybody is a big boy here...You can stay outside and come back late without any harassment...Life is really great here in Abuja.
Abuja is the small London of Nigeria. That's my two cents.
I still need a roommate. Sir, i deeply appreciate the time you took in giving out this concrete advice. My friends have all suggested Abuja for me, because i intend to go into foreign doors importation. Lagos on the other hand is so saturated with the business already, and almost everyone is importing doors. Please what's your take on this, where in Abuja would be a preferred location?, as i need to make the decision urgently and decisively , with a concentrated and vivid background of the dangers and demerits involved sir. |

aywhy93: Well, it depends on the type of business and targeted audience. My type of business fits into Abuja as there are lots of competition in Lagos. Satisfaction is available at both locations, one with stress and the other without. So I'll still choose Abuja. My type of business is importation of foreign doors sir. What are your suggestions sir? |

ahiboilandgas: business Lagos, living abuja ....futher more it depend on type of business ...govt patronage abuja ...people partronage Lagos.. ..80 percent of nigerian middle class are in lagos hence a concentration of purchasing ability within it enviroment....even area boys and danfo driver are capable of buying bottle water @70 naira In terms of business sir, i want to go into importation of foreign doors, and i did a little survey , and from my findings, Lagos is wide spread with the business already, and a lot of competitions are all over the corner. |

skales67: Bro...if you want to grow, relocate to Abuja. Like you said, Lagos is saturated and in a particular street, like 2 or 3 persons is already into what you are doing.
Secondly, almost every venture is underpriced in Lagos unlike Abuja. Do what you do outstandingly in Abuja and people will throw big bucks at you.
I know what I am saying. I am a witness! Thanks for the heads up and advice sir. I would consider Abuja, because i intend to venture into importation of foreign doors. Do you think such business would survive abuja and what's the best location to fit into?. |

HomeOfMe: Five people I know have actually relocated to Abuja. They said Lagos is a mad house and they can't deal. For me,Abuja is perfect for living if you have a reliable source of income. While Lagos is good for business/hussle. I intend to import foreign doors, and Lagos is so saturated with that business. Competition is all over the corner. Which means Abuja is a preferred choice for you?. |

aywhy93: It's Simple..!
In Brief, Abuja is Really Conducive For Living. While Lagos is So On Point For Any Type of Business.
Personally, All in all. I'll Settle Down in Abuja, Not Lagos. Which means, you have to choose between satisfaction and making money. If Abuja is less attractive in terms of business and Lagos attracts various businesses, then which would you suggest for but satisfaction and business?. A lot of guys with the cash to start a business are all over the place, but the problem is the right place to start it, with the prior attention to security also. |

prodogunwanoe1: common guys .... Lagos is the best for business however it depends on you whether you can keep yourself economically stratified or not...
on the other hand, Abuja has no comparison in terms of salaries and opportunities which are only made available to highly certified persons.
Lagos pays for hustle and growing any type of business while Abuja only create opportunities for you and your business may not mightily grow as expected....
get me right, there are types of businesses I mean here...... That's good sir. But what kind of business would thrive in Abuja. Lagos is over saturated with various works and businesses, and you would hardly grow in such place. A lot of friends advised me to relocate to Abuja, as that would be much more preferable to Lagos state. |
