The trending words in Nigeria is currently the word recession. Economically Ressesion is attained when the country in question is lacking economic growth over some years. In Nigeria today the standard of living is very low and this makes fewer goods to pursue large amount of money(Inflation). Inflation is most atimes accompanied with inflation and high standard of living. Well the average Nigerian noticed these occurance at the tenure of the current president of Nigeria Pres. Muhammadu Buhari. But these economic disaster happened far back from the Good luck Jonathan's administration. The important question to be asked should be how can these disaster be fixed? Due to lack of little productive activities going on in the country to counter the large amount of imports.in the country, the Nigerian economy seems to be in a state that I termed the marginalised state, in the sense that the production and the little activities in the country makes it difficult for the country to compete with the goods that comes into the country. That is to say, Less exports and high import makes the economy to suffer... Yes. Do you know that Nigeria is fighting corruption but the rate of corruption increases daily. For instance I happened to live in a riverine area in Lagos which is the boarder of Nigeria and Benin Republic. Everyday over 5000 bags of rice are smuggled into the country since this amount of rice is being imported how many of them to day produce in a day..."Not even enough to feed my family" so why are we complaining? The truth is the country can't close all boarders because of low level of technology in the country but the country can achieve this with just a single policy DEVALUATION. Yes, devaluation of the currency will make the currency more irrelevant in the world market that will create a very great risk to those that want to import. For instance if one bag of rice becomes #120,000, One hundred and twenty thousand Naira, with additional 35% tariff they will gladly look for jobs in the country. Creating Jobs for the youths will come into place at these junction, unemployment ... CONTINUE READING http://www.naijatrace.com/2017/02/solutions-to-economic-recession-in.html#more

SOURCE http://www.naijatrace.com/2016/11/mmm-threat-to-nigeria-uites-speak.html Hey Nigerian youths how una dey? I use this medium plead with the Nigerian president and others in authority to look into this mmm network it is beginning to become a threat to the Nigerian economy. This online networking platform was encourage savings. And with much fast growing speed. But now it is a great disaster to the economy. All a youth needs is just a startup capital imagine the interest rate of 1million naira after a month to you get 300 thousand naira. This is an incentive to laziness and discourages production. This would have been a nice financial platform in a closed economy but currently the youth of today participate in all this how with one aim to get a car, change attires or get an iPhone. All the money generated will be going out of Nigeria without production to at least choke these lickages more money leaving Nigeria without any coming into reducing the value of other currencies in relation to naira due to increase imports accompanied with less or no production ...pleading with those in authority to look into this |
READ MORE AT http://www.naijatrace.com/2016/11/newborn-babies-should-not-use-car-seats.html Found this old but very important, lifesaving piece of information. Read below... Scientists have advised that parents should not put their babies in car seats for more than 30mins to avoid the risk of suffocation. Doctors warn that very young babies whose neck muscles are not strong enough to stop their heads flopping forward could stop breathing. Manufactures say babies should not be left in the seats for more than two hours... but doctors are calling for that information to be updated to reflect expert medical findings with regards to very young babies. Dr Peter Fleming, a paediatrician at Bristol University, carried out research that shows newborn babies may be at risk in car seats. He said: 'If you can avoid a journey, it's probably better to do so, restricted to no more than half an hour or so. 'But try to avoid unnecessary car journeys with young babies.' The research authors warn: 'There have been reports of deaths of infants who have been left in a sitting position, including in car seats - both on journeys, and when parents have used it as an alternative to a pushchair or cot for the infant to sleep in.' |

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has called for the sack of the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu over what it described as his insensitivity and lack of commitment towards reversing the dwindling fortunes of the Nigerian education sector. This call was made by the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), Dr Ndamisa Mohammed Attaahiru. According to him, the ongoing strike would have been averted if the Minster has been alive to his responsibilities. He mentioned that since the current administration came on board, that ASUU has been trying to get access to Mr. President however the minster has not allowed such to be possible. “He should be removed because you cannot stay in a place you are not doing your job. If he was very sensitive to the issues today, I don’t think this strike will have been called for. If his removal will bring prosperity to education because Nigeria is bigger than an individual in this country, we must move forward. If a minister is sitting down on his seat and sabotaging the efforts of education, I think he should be removed. He doesn’t need to be there”. He equally confirmed that FUTMINNA has joined the strike and has withdrawn all academic services. "If nothing is done after one week, we will reevaluate the situation on ground and move to the next option which is two weeks. If after two weeks nothing is done we will look at the situation and move to three weeks. If after three weeks nothing is done, we will go on full blown strike." He stated emphatically. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has hinted that it may cancel the use of uniform cut-off points for admitting candidates that took the Universities Tertiary Matriculation Examination. The issue of cut-off marks as currently being used for admission, it said, should be subjected to national debate by stakeholders. The Spokesperson of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, gave the indication in a statement he issued on behalf of its Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, on Sunday evening in Abuja. He said a situation where universities, polytechnics and colleges of education were subjected to the same cut-off marks was no longer tenable because it prevented the institutions from admitting candidates of their choice. Tertiary institutions, he sated, should be allowed to determine the kind of candidates they want to admit. He added that there was an urgent need to reconsider the current cut-off point of 180 for admission in order to strengthen access to education, particularly for the less-privileged. Benjamin said, “The uniformity of cut-off marks doesn’t make any sense when colleges (of education) and polytechnics admit for national certificate of education and diplomas, while universities admit for degrees. Yet, we subject them to the same cut-off marks, thereby starving these tiers of institutions from admitting candidates who, if not engaged, may likely become easy prey to social vices. “This means that if a University wants 250 as minimum cut-off marks, why not? And if another wants less so be it. If a Polytechnic like YABATECH (Yaba College of Technology) wants 250 as cut-off marks, let them admit and if Gboko Polytechnic in Benue State where I come from wants less than 200, let them admit. “Institutions should be known for their individual quality and not collective standards. This will foster positive competition for the overall good of our tertiary institutions. It is critical for all notable stakeholders to rethink the issue of cut-off marks. “I am calling for a national debate on the propriety of cut off marks; institutions should be allowed to determine the kind of candidates they want.” JAMB also expressed worry over the class opportunities as it affects the distribution of admission resources. The organisation said, “The rich have multiple opportunities which include going abroad for studies while the poor only have the opportunity of struggling for the scarce spaces here. “They come back and they are integrated while the poor can’t afford it and are forever denied the opportunity of education. Let institutions admit what they want according to their needs.” JAMB urged Nigerians to look at the decision critically for it to take action that would be for the good of the education sector. 7 SECRETS OF SCORING VERY HIGH IN JAMB UTME EXAM 7 Secrets Of Scoring Very High In Jamb Utme Exam... It baffles me a lot whenever I meet with Jambites who struggle to score barely 200 in JAMB. I begin to ask myself, "What is so difficult about JAMB that lots of students struggle with it?" From my findings, I discovered that lots of students are not knowledgeable about how to pass JAMB and pass it very well. It is not as difficult as most students think. As a result of this, I decided to come up with this write-up which I titled "7 Secrets of getting 280 and above in JAMB." The seven secrets are discussed below; 1. Set a Target Personally, I believe that there is nothing impossible that one cannot achieve. In scoring 280 and above in UTME exam, the first step is for you to believe you can achieve and set a target on the score you want to have in the end of the day. Overtime, I have observed that most students do not have a specific score they want to have in the JAMB. All they do is just to read without a specific target. However, I always encourage Jambites to set very high score as their target. Setting a target will help you to be focused on what you want to achieve in the exam. 2. Study smart It is not all about studying hard; it is about studying smart. Kindly get the JAMB syllabus and past questions, studying closing to identify the core topics JAMB often repeat year in year out. If you can study those topics very well, I think the job is half way done. Also, understand your study pattern and not emulate friends. I used to have friends who loved drinking lots of water whenever they were studying. Hence, it is left for you to learn to study smart in preparing for the exam. 3. Practice I remember practicing my JAMB past questions up to a point where I knew almost all the answers off hand. I had different forms of past questions for every of my subjects. What I am trying to point out is it is very important for you to practice very closely especially the JAMB past question because it will expose you to the patterns of questions set by JAMB. Also it has been proven over time that JAMB repeats questions from previous years. You can be fortunate to come across such questions during your exam. 4. Do not cheat The prevalent thing among Jambites is relying on different forms of examination malpractices to score very high in the exam. But unfortunately for them, they end up having very low scores despite the exam malpractices. If you want to indeed score 280 and above in JAMB and eventually gain the much-desired admission, stay away from exam malpractices before, during and after the exam. Funny enough, majority of courses taken by year-one students are topics selected from JAMB syllabus. So if you fail to study now, if you still encounter those topics even after you gained admission through the back door. 5. Rest I know this point may seem unnecessary to you, but it is of great importance if you truly want to perform very well in your UTME exam. The problem most studious students do have is their inability to set out time to have some rest. The human brain is often stressed a lot by constant study. Hence, it is advisably for you to always take intermittent rest. It looks so funny to me whenever I meet students who study all night a day to their JAMB exam. To me, such study places sheer pressure on them. A day to your JAMB exam is for you to take out time to rest and ruminate on what you have studied over time. 6. Gist with Friends The popular saying that no man is an Island 'is applicable in this situation. As a jambites do not isolate yourself. Make friends with fellow Jambites and exchange ideas with them because you can never know everything on your own. However, do not make friends with the dullards who would draw you back all in the name of making friends; make friends with those you will learn a great deal from. I remember when I was preparing for JAMB in 2011, I encountered a group of guys at the public library where I used to study. These guys were very intelligent and I learnt a lot from them. Aside learning from friends, making good friends helps you to be abreast with any latest rumour or news about the exam. I know a lot of people who could have performed very well in JAMB if they had been exposed to timely information. 7. God factor The God-factor can never be ruled out. In everything you do, put God first. The bare truth is you need God's direction when preparing to score 280 and above in JAMB. As a matter of fact, such feat is attainable even without any special centre 'during the exam. Personally, I do not support or encourage students to enrol for special centre 'for exams; I always believe in merit. A senior lecturer with Ebonyi State University has been suspended. The man was suspended over alleged shocking involvement in s*xual harassment of students. The Commissioner for Education Professor John Eke, addressing journalists, also disclosed that four principals of secondary schools were demoted for various misconducts ranging from absenteeism and other acts inconsistent with their mandate. The development has sent shock waves around many schools within the state. Eke said the Ministry was investigating the s*x scandal rocking schools across the state, adding that one lecturer in the Ebonyi State University had been placed on indefinite suspension pending the outcome of the reports of s*x allegations leveled against him. “We have zero tolerance of s*xual harassment on our children. There is a case in the University where a lecturer was suspended and we are investigating the case and the Ministry is now working on that.” Similarly, the state government said it would ban teachers who are indicted in examination malpractices from supervising WAEC and other external examinations for five years. Prof. Eke said the state government had put up various measures to dismantle examination malpractices, describing it as worse than the menace of Boko Haram, adding that since assumption of office his ministry, in line with the policy initiatives of governor Umahi’s administration on education, has categorized measures to tackle examination malpractices into short and long term measures, which he said included banning all teachers colluding with students to cheat in internal and external examinations. Prof. Eke also said the Ministry was conducting examination and competency tests for all teachers in the state to determine the quality of teachers teaching in the schools across the state within weeks. He said the examination was not only to ascertain the quality and competency of the teachers, but also to ensure aggressive supervision and monitoring, adding that the teachers would be grouped into various groups to ascertain the areas in which the teachers are to be retrained or retooled. The Commissioner further disclosed that part of the measures necessary to ensure that Ebonyi improves its performance ratings in WAEC and other examinations would be to make it a requirement for students in Senior Secondary schools to pass internal examinations before they would be allowed to register for any external ones. On the lingering Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) crisis, the Commissioner described the Union in Ebonyi state University as illegal, adding that their tenure had long elapsed, and chided the suspended ASUU leadership for misinforming the staff of the stat-owned institution. The Senate last Thursday directed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), to extend the validity of itsresults to a period of three years. The news was received with joy from candidates who consider it a stress going through the process of writing exams many times and more from parents who pay more. Not many looked at the negative side. The question is, if this is implemented what are the possible implications? Below are some: 1. More admission seekers The most obvious implication is that even though the policy will reduce the number of candidates applying to write JAMB every year, it will increase the number of candidates seeking admissionthrough UTME each year. This is not good considering that our tertiary institutions lack the capacity to accommodate the increasing number of admission seekers. 2. Laziness Having to write exam a year or the one that follows keeps young school leavers on their toes in terms of studying. However, the new policy will breed laziness in the students. A situation may arise that a student will write JAMB in 2017, score 250 but doesn't get admitted.Such student, knowing fully well that he can use the result in 2018 and 2019 may decide not to study. This will surely reflect in his early years in the tertiary institution. 3. More difficult JAMB In case, it is logical to expect tougher exams and more strict marking scheme from JAMB. The exams will be difficult such that candidates will have no choice than to come back the following year. 4. Unattractive courses If the UTME result validity gets extended, many candidates with good UTME scores that fail to secure admission in a particular year will find it hard to considerprogrammes like diploma, IJMB, Pre-degree etc. since all they have to do is to wait another year and then re-apply for admission with their previous UTME result. 5. Less revenue for JAMB http://www.naijatrace.com/2016/10/5-negative-implications-of-jamb-3-years.html |
During the first chapter of the University of Ilorin 32nd convocation ceremonies - the Press briefing - the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali, stated that only a meagre percentage of the 103,238 applicants would ultimately secure admission into the school. He said that while one of the public institutions got as low as 148 applicants, the university keeps receiving a high admission pressure every year. Though, the institution remains committed to improving its services, expanding its facilities and furthering its frontier through innovative programmes. On the other hand, the VC disclosed that only 67 of 6,069 first degree graduands bagged First-class Honors. While 1,505 made it to Second-class Upper Division and 3,200 Second-class Lower Division. Then, 1,124 Third-class students alongside 70 Pass. Also, the VC expressed his concern on the factthat no Nigerian university was ranked in the first 100 of the global university ranking.
