The Nigeria Union in South Africa, on Wednesday claimed that two communities in the country, have asked Nigerians to leave their territories.
President of the union, Ikechukwu Anyene, said the Kuruman community in Northern Cape Province gave Nigerians till Thursday to leave.

He also said the Klaafontein community, Extension 5, Johannesburg, directed landlords not to renew the rent of Nigerians in the area, blaming them for the rise of illicit drug trade and prostitution. “The Nigeria union held series of meetings with the affected communities as well as police and local authorities on the recent threats to Nigerians. “We have also written reports on these incidents and sent to the Nigerian Mission and the South African police.“We recommended interventions before the June 16 deadline to the mission and we are waiting for their response. “The union is worried that any incident involving non -South Africans are attributed to Nigerians,” Anyene said.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, Tuesday had a closed door meeting with some Northern leaders at the state house Abuja. Osinbajo called for the meeting following the recent call by some Northern youths for Igbos residing within the region to relocate on or before October 1st.

Speaking at the meeting, Osibanjo said the ultimatum by a group of Arewa youths could not be ignored and would not be tolerated as the hate speeches if not stopped, could throw the nation into serious crisis. The acting president in his speech, said:"As a government, we are determined to ensure the unity of the country along the lines of our Constitution and I want to say that hate and divisive speech or divisive behaviour where it is illegal will be met with the full force of the law. I want to ensure that there is no doubt at all that it is the resolve of the government that none will be allowed to get away with making speeches that can cause sedition or that can cause violence. This is especially because when we make these kinds of pronouncement and do things that can cause violence or destruction of lives and property, we are no longer in control. Those who make those speeches are no longer in control. So I want to emphasize that government will take very seriously any attempts to cause violence or disrupt the peace of this country. And that is very important because you cannot control violence once it begins. These days, wars do not end and I am sure that those who have seen or experienced war in any shape or form will not wish it on their worst enemies. This is not a time to retreat behind ethnic lines, moments like this are not for isolating ourselves. I want to urge all of us here and the entire Nigerian populace to come together and work together" he said.

Osinbajo will first meet the Northern and South East leaders separately on different days this week and then meet them together afterwards.

Gabriel Olonishakin; Chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum and former Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Comassie, spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum Prof. Ango Abdullahi, former governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamako, former deputy governor of Plateau State, Pauline Tallen; Publisher of Leadership Newspapers, Sam Ndah-Isaiah and others.

Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has signed the 2017 budget into law at exactly 4:42 PM today, June 12th in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Presidency have said President Muhammadu Buhari had indicated to Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to proceed to assent to the nation’s 2017 budget.

Mr. Osinbajo had on May 19 received the N7.441 trillion budget passed by the National Assembly.

Initially, there were controversies over whether he or President Muhammadu Buhari, who is away in London for medical treatment, would assent to the document.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has dismissed his entire cabinet members in what appears to be a strategic bid to restrengthen his administration.

The governor on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, sacked his state executive council and 27 local government transition committees with immediate effect.

In a statement by the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Pascal Obi, the Governor ordered the affected commissioners and transition committees to hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior director in their ministries.

According to him, the secretary to the government, the chief of staff, chairmen and members of statutory commissions such as ISEC, Civil Service Commission, local government service commission were not affected.

"Also not affected in the cabinet shake-up are the state universal basic education board, the judicial service commission, and the house of assembly service commission.


"The governor also dissolved the 27 transition committees (TC) of the 27 local government areas in the state.

"The transition committee (TC) chairmen are advised to hand over to the directors of administration and general services of their respective council areas.

"The governor appreciates the contributions of the TC chairmen to the success of the rescue mission and wishes them well in their future endeavours."

Rochas who didn't disclose his reason for the action took a similar decision in 2013 when he sacked members of the state execute council mid-way into their weekly meeting, just two years after he became the governor of Imo State.

Two commercial sex workers in Ogun state have been arrested by the state police command for allegedly killing one of their customers, Adeyinka Olayinka, at the KS Hotel, Ifo yesterday May 30th.

According to a statement by the state police public relations officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the commercial sex workers, Kudirat Raji alias Angela and Esther Basiru, stabbed the deceased with a broken bottle during an argument.

The deceased had on the night of the incident, contracted Kudirat to pass the night with him and had agreed on a price to pay her. He however reneged on their agreement and this led to an argument.
“The victim was supervising an ongoing construction work on his property and so he spent the night at the hotel. He contracted Kudirat Raji to pass the night with him on an agreed amount but reneged on their agreement. His refusal to pay the agreed amount led to a hot argument between them. While the argument was going on, Esther Basiru, a friend to Angela broke a bottle and injured the deceased’s friend who was at the scene. Angela used the broken part of the bottle to stab the deceased on the armpit thereby cutting one of his nerves, consequent upon which he bled to death. The manager of the hotel alerted the police at Ifo and the DPO, CSP Anthony Haruna led his men to the scene and arrested the two suspects. The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered the transfer of the case to Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discrete investigation and possible prosecution of the suspects.”

Pandemonium broke out in Ikun Ekiti in Ekiti state yesterday night when some masquerades invaded the central mosque in the community and attacked the Muslim faithfuls who were praying in the mosque. According to residents of the community, the masquerades were annoyed with the Muslims because they called for prayers while they were celebrating their festival, an act that is prohibited by their tradition.

Police officers arrived the community on time to avert a clash between the Muslims and the traditional worshipers.

[Ibadan]–The Senate of the University of Ibadan led by Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka has suspended the Students’ Union of the university indefinitely.

The suspension was part of the outcome of a special meeting of the Senate held on Tuesday, May 30 in the University’s Senate Chambers.

Recall that The Management of the University of Ibadan has shut down the university on Monday, May 29 as a result of a protest held by the students over issues bothering on the use of hot plates and non-issuance of ID cards to the students by the management.



According to an officer of the Students’ Affairs Division who spoke on the condition of anonymity, “The Students’ Union has not been proscribed but has been suspended indefinitely by the Senate.

“The new date for resumption will be released later,” he added.

Meanwhile, the University is yet to release an official statement to back this up.
