A gunman continues to negotiate with police almost nine hours into a hostage siege in the Lindt Chocolat Cafe in Martin Place in the heart of Sydney's CBD.
Chris Reason, a journalist from Channel Seven, said in posts to social media site Twitter that the gunman appeared to be rotating hostages, forcing them to stand against windows for as long as two hours at a time.
Five hostages have managed to flee the cafe, hours after a gunman first holed himself up in the store and forced hostages to display an Islamic flag. It remains unclear how many hostages are still in the cafe.
Police have cordoned off an exclusion zone around the building, closing some roads. Apart from the affected area, people should go about their usual business in the city, police said.
Deputy Police Commissioner Catherine Burn said the situation is now unfolding as a "negotiation" with the armed person.
She said the approach was the deal with the situation "peacefully." "It might take a bit of time but that is our approach," Ms Burn said. "We will be working into the night if this situation continues and we will be looking at arrangements for tomorrow."


Police have requested that media outlets do not report the gunman's demands. This article has been updated to remove earlier references to the reported demands.
Earlier, two female cafe workers ran from the building at about 5pm. Three men escaped about an hour earlier.
The women, appeared to be aged in their 20s, ran out of the cafe a few seconds apart and into the arms of police officers. One of the two appeared to collapse as she rounded the corner from Martin Place into Elizabeth Street.
They fled from an office foyer on Martin Place that adjoins the cafe. Both were wearing brown Lindt aprons.
Television footage of the men showed two of them running from the front of cafe on Martin Place. A third, dressed in what appeared to be a Lindt uniform, is shown escaping out a side door on Phillip Street.

Facebook is thinking about adding a way to “dislike” posts on its site, founder Mark Zuckerberg has said.
Speaking at a Q&A session in California, he said it was one of the most requested features the social network receives from its users.

He said the site would need to find a way to make sure it did not become a way to demean people’s posts.
According to Facebook’s own figures, 4.5 billion “likes” are generated every day.
“One of things we’ve thought about for quite a while is what’s the right way to make it so that people can easily express a broader range of emotions,” Mark Zuckerberg told an audience at Facebook’s headquarters.
“A lot of times people share things on Facebook that are sad moments in their lives. Often people tell us that they don’t feel comfortable pressing ‘like’ because ‘like’ isn’t the appropriate sentiment.
“Some people have asked for a dislike button because they want to say, ‘That thing isn’t good.’ That’s not something that we think is good for the world.
“The thing that I think is very valuable is that there are more sentiments that people want to express.”

A Gmail confirmation scam email is going around, asking you to verify your Gmail account. “Dear Account User,” the request starts out – and goes on to say that you need to confirm your Gmail account, or it will be closed down. Of course, the language is wrong, and it wasn’t even necessarily sent to your Gmail account, but still, people will be taken in by this scam, which asks for your account username and password, your date of birth, and your country of residence.

It took me a while to react to these baseless allegations about my good self because I had to investigate to know if it was truly me they were referring to or someone was impersonating me. I wouldn’t have responded but for the numerous innocent readers who may have been misled by this untrue publications which was never verified before going public. I thought that balanced reportage had to do with getting both sides of the story. What happened between me and my estranged friend was a case of a woman who claimed she was heartbroken because she discovered I am in a very serious relationship.

She flared up when she realized and started demanding that I must settle her since I was not taking her seriously not to talk of marrying her. She demanded for two million naira (N2m) and a Toyota Yaris car as settlement else she would scandalize my name and that I know I wouldn’t want that since according to her I come from a popular and wealthy background. I took it as one of those empty threats until I now read about this complete sham about my good self.

How can someone say you were beaten up by seven (7) guards before canal knowledge of you prevailed? Someone who claimed she was sick? She must be a female wrestler in the WWE (The World Wrestling Entertainment) for such measures to be required before a strong tall guy like me will need to force her to have canal knowledge of her. Someone who claimed she was r*ped could also muscle out strength to destroy my properties in front of the so alleged seven guards? If I were a nobody would she be priding in saying I allegedly r*ped her? I know that the thought of possessing me is your dream but you didn’t need to go this shameless way.

Those that may have advised you to do this (if any) gave you the worst advice ever because you can’t have me through cheap blackmail. Let me make it crystal clear that there was never a case of r*pe nor assault. I have decided not to reveal more shocking details on this sad episode because her family initiated peace moves towards mine and I strongly believe in the biblical saying “to err is human but to forgive is divine”. In a country where people can use some sections of the media to publish unverified stories of even the highest offices in the land, then who am I to bother if such crude treatment is meted out to a rising star like me. Must we continue to destroy our very best because we have a very few media platforms that are willing tools to be used. This is sad and unkind.


Why will they want to bring in a respected elder stateswoman Prof. Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke, OON, into an issue where the alleged accused is an adult who should take full responsibility of his actions and in-actions. A woman who worked tirelessly day and night to develop the Nigerian Capital Market and by extension the Nigerian economy which in turn put food on the tables of millions of Nigerians and beyond. During her tenure as the DG of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, the Capital Market was bountiful and prospered as never before. She is an institution in this country and should please not be dragged into trivial issues like this. She should be respected as such.

A British who was officially the world’s fattest man has died from pneumonia, his family have announced.
Keith Martin, 44, suffered with weight problems for most of his adult life, at one point consuming as much as 20,000 calories a day, nine times more than the recommended amount.

His sister Tina told the Mirror last night of her brother’s passing in March.
‘We’re still grieving. We miss him very much,’ she said.
Mr Martin said his extreme size came form a lifetime of binging of high sugar junk food such as pizzas and fizzy drinks, which he turned to as his comfort food.
He was part of a documentary ’70 Stone and Almost Dead,’ which featured him dropping 25 stone in order to qualify for a gastric band operation in 2012.

I refuse to be repeatedly mistreated especially by someone who claims to love me. That’s not love. And if that’s what you define as love then I don’t want it. Yes, I have not been so smart before in the past but I made a promise to be a better and stronger woman and I’m keeping that promise. If you can’t love me the right way, then don’t love me at all. Don’t be made at me because I prefer to be happy. Keep love in your life folks. Not just love between people but love within your HEART, flowing in all aspects of your life. I promise life is so much better.”

Chris Brown later came out to draft a lengthy apology to Tran. ‘I just want baby girl to know I apologise,’ Chris summed up after posting the grovelling apology to his Instagram account, alongside a picture of himself with his head hanging in shame...And unlike rihanna karruche forgave him instantly.

The Nigerian military has released the detained Russian cargo plane which they seized yesterday morning after France admitted ownership of the aircraft.
It said that the flight was covered by a diplomatic clearance given by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, noting that the Autonov 124 Russian commercial plane was forced to land at the Kano airport because of dense air traffic at Ndjamena airport, Chad.

A statement from the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Jacques Champagne de Labriolle, on Sunday, stated that the Antonov plane had to divert to an alternate international airport and the closest airport facility being Kano, the Russian crew decided to fly there, to refuel, and to take off again to reach Njamena Airport.

He denied that the plane was carrying arms and ammunition, stressing that it was conveying two light Gazelle helicopters, spare parts and maintenance items belonging to the French Army.
Labriolle further explained that due to the nationality of the aircraft, and the nature of the cargo, airport authorities in Kano, decided to check the flight plan, the clearance and the cargo manifest before authorizing the plane to leave.

Cameroonian investigative journalist, Bisong Etahoben, tweeted yesterday that a close confidant of Chadian President IIdriss Derby, Mahamat Gnoti was arrested on Nov. 17th on the Chadian-Sudan border with arms meant for Boko Haram.


Gnoti then claimed that he was sent to procure the arms and deliver it to people in Nigeria by Chadian president himself, Idris Derby. Derby is the same person who tried to negotiate the release of Chibok girls with Boko Haram on behalf of the Nigerian government.
