Celebrities / Meet Prophet TB Joshua, The Main Man At The Synagogue by Skynett: 11:28am On Sep 13, 2014
Enigmatic in many people’s estimation, Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, founder of Synagogue Church of All Nations, is one man few words can hardly describe, like the large following he enjoys.

Wherever he goes, the people follow him. From Nigeria to Liberia, South Africa to Zimbabwe and even to other parts of the world, he is mobbed in grand style whenever he makes an entry. He is no messiah, but the multitudes follow him for preaching the Messiah. And like the early apostles, he has endured persecution in different forms.

Born on June 12, 1963 in Arigidi, Ondo State, South-West Nigeria, Joshua has mysteries following him even as a child. Reports once claimed he spent about 15 months in his mother’s womb instead of nine months and narrowly escaped death after a quarry explosion near his family home almost ended his life barely one week after he was delivered.

Though, described as “small pastor” while still in primary school because of his love for the Bible, TB Joshua, according to his biography, never finished even one year in secondary school.

But having shrugged off those shaky beginnings, the cleric is today regarded as one of Africa’s 50 most influential people and one of the most revered preachers in the world. For his humanitarian efforts, Federal Government in 2008 decorated him with the national honour of Officer of the Federal Republic.

Nairaland / General / Man Robs Gtbank With Invincible Ring; But The RING Fails Him by Skynett: 1:23pm On Sep 12, 2014
The ploy by a desperate man to walk into a branch of GTBank and walk out with a bag full of money, took him to a witch-doctor who gave him an INVINCIBLE RING. Unfortunately for him, he wore the ring, stormed the bank and started parking money into a bag, not knowing that he was not invincible.

The surprised bank cashiers pounced on him and grabbed him until the police arrived. When he was asked the reason for his action, the man confessed that he thought he was actually invincible.

Politics / Ali Modu Sherrif Is Still Under Investigation –president Jonathan by Skynett: 1:08pm On Sep 12, 2014
The heat is too much, President Goodluck Jonathan and his boys can’t handle the level of criticisms that have trailed his romance with alleged Boko Haram sponsor, Ali-Modu Sheriff in Chad recently.

Consequently, Jonathan has denied travelling to Chad with Sheriff to meet with the Chadian President, Idris Derby, on how to jointly fight the Boko Haram menace.

The President said he was fully aware of allegations of Boko Haram sponsorship levelled against the former governor, adding that he was only waiting for the outcome of his probe by security operatives.

The presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, who said this in a statement on Thursday, insisted that the extent of participation of Sheriff in President Jonathan’s mission to N’Djamena, the Chadian capital, was limited to his being part of Nigerians who welcomed the President to the foreign land.

However, Abati said in his statement on Thursday that the photograph was taken at the airport. Please does this second photo look like an airport? These men don’t think before lying to Nigerians. How sad!

Abati said, “The APC and others who rushed to condemn President Jonathan for a non-existent indiscretion would have found, if they took the least trouble to double-check, that there was absolutely no factual basis for their accusation.

“Those who associate with Senator Sheriff know that he has longstanding interests in Chad and often spends a lot of his time there. He happened to be in Ndjamena at the time of President Jonathan’s visit and joined other Nigerian residents of the Chadian capital in coming to the airport to welcome their President.

“That was the full extent of his participation in the visit and it was also at Ndjamena Airport that the pictures which formed the basis of the bogus allegation of President Jonathan hobnobbing with an ‘accused sponsor of terrorism’ were taken.

“The former governor’s presence in Chad was certainly not at President Jonathan’s instance and he did not participate in any of the President’s discussions with President Idriss Deby or his other engagements in Ndjamena.”

Sheriff has been accused of sponsoring Boko Haram, a terrorist group, who had by its insurgent campaigns especially in the North-East killed thousands of hapless citizens and left thousands of others, who had been made to flee their homes, helpless.

The SSS recently confirmed that it was investigating Sheriff for alleged sponsorship of terrorism due to the allegations by against him by an Australian clergy and negotiator, Stephen Davis.

Romance / Pastor Chris’ Wife Not Divorcing Him For Adultery; See Her Reason by Skynett: 1:15pm On Sep 08, 2014
Facts have emerged that the ground on which Pastor Anita Oyakhilome is seeking to divorce her husband, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy, is not adul-tery but on behaviours that suggest that she cannot ‘reasonably be expected’ to live with him.

There had been media reports that Anita decided to divorce Pastor Chris based on allegations of ‘adul-tery’ and ‘unreasonable behaviours’ but a copy of the court papers for the divorce process filed at the Principal Registry of the Family Division (PRFD) of the High Court of Justice in possession of THISDAY, revealed that she applied for “divorce on the ground that the marriage has broken down irretrievably.”

But in her statement of case in support of petition at PRFD with number FD14001650, Pastor Anita however, accused her husband of having inappropriate relationship with some of his female staff members…

According to the statement, “the wife has discussed with the husband his inappropriate relationship with some of his female staff members. She has explained that this has given her cause for concern. The husband has minimised her worries and taken no step to alleviate her grievances.”

In fact, the statement indicated no allegation of adultery as there was no co-respondent to the petition and no names were mentioned.

Dictionary.com defines adultery as “voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not their spouse.”

The statement reads in part: “The wife submits that her marriage to the husband has irretrievably broken down and there is no hope of reconciliation. The wife will submit that it is the husband’s unreasonable behaviours which have led to this.

“The husband and the wife are both Pastors. The husband undertakes his work, in the main, in South Africa and Nigeria. The wife lives in the United Kingdom. The wife will say that they have lived separately for 16 years and over this time have drifted apart. The wife has come to realise that the husband will only visit the UK for annual church programmes that he holds rather than to be with this wife. The wife feels that he has been unavailable as a father to their children during their developing years.

Nairaland / General / Six Killed In Renewed Attack On Villagers In Plateau by Skynett: 1:08pm On Sep 08, 2014
Six people were said to have lost their lives when some unknown gunmen stormed Lamba Gyambar community in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State late Saturday night .

It was gathered that the gunmen attacked the community at about 11pm shooting sporadically and setting some houses on fire.

It was also learnt that the gunmen took advantage of the removal of soldiers guarding the area on Friday.

It was not known why the soldiers were removed but it was learnt that the soldiers had being redeployed to Maiduguri, Borno State, following the escalation of Boko Haram attacks in the North-East. A resident, Ibrahim Idris, confirmed to newsmen that four people were killed on Saturday while eight were injured.

He said that out of the eight that were rushed to Dangi General Hospital in the neighbouring Kanam Local Government Area, two died on Sunday morning bringing the casualty figure to six.

Politics / Jonathan, Stop Telling INEC Where To Print Ballot Papers –APC by Skynett: 12:53pm On Sep 08, 2014
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the Presidential directive that all electoral materials must be printed by the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) as a threat to the independence of INEC and the conduct of a free, fair and credible elections in the country.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the directive is suspicious because it was followed by the dissolution of the management of the NSPMC, which may be a ploy by the President to inject PDP card-carrying members into the reconstituted management so that the company could become another rigging tool in the 2015 general elections.

“On the surface, there is nothing wrong in having the NSPMC print electoral materials, since this will translate to more jobs for Nigerians and save money. However, against the background of the PDP-led Federal Government’s abuse of national institutions like the military and the police, which are used as the enforcement arms of the PDP during elections, it will be dangerous to have the Federal Government take control of the printing of ballot papers and other electoral materials via the NSPMC.

“Secondly, where is the independence of INEC when the President can just direct it by fiat to do its bidding? INEC should be left to determine where to print its electoral materials to ensure the integrity of such materials…

“Thirdly, asking the CBN Governor, an appointee of the President, to now oversee the ‘reform’ of the NSPMC, and the Governor’s promptitude in visiting INEC over the presidential directive, raise more questions. While the CBN is a part owner of the NSPMC, it is not INEC’s supervisory ministry and should not tamper with its duties,” it said.

The APC said the bottom line is that INEC should be left alone to carry out its onerous duties without interference from any quarters whatsoever.

“There should be a limit to the desperation of President Jonathan and his party to win the 2015 elections at all costs. They have perfected the use of the security forces, especially the military, the police and the DSS, to harass and intimidate the opposition during elections. While the whole nation is still trying to get them to stop abusing the security forces, they should not draft another institution into the election rigging fray,” the party added.
