Edo Government has said that popular Nigeria music artist, Innocent Idibia, a.k.a, 2face Idibia, will lead some Nigerian artists to the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST), holding in the state from Oct. 19 to 26.

A statement in Benin on Sunday by Mr Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, said all was set for a successful hosting of the culture fiesta by the state.

He said “We are set for the NAFEST holding in the state. If you go around Benin City, you will observe that the city is bubbling.

“It has taken a colourful turn of branding, posters and billboards regarding the festival is everywhere for tourists to obtain necessary information.

“This year’s festival is going to have a Benin flavour, as it coincides with the celebration of the coronation of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II.

“So, we have the preparations for all of that covered,” he said.
Osagie said that a longlist of Nigerian artists would be in Benin for the festival, which would feature local and international arts, assuring that the festival would be a world-class outing.

He added, “We are very certain that we will put up a good show. Edo is the cradle of culture and arts in the country and we will ensure that tourists get a feel of our assets.

“Artists in Igun Street are already prepared for the festival, as they have promised to give discounts to those who patronise them during the festival.

“The Society of Nigerian Artists has also planned an exhibition to showcase the artwork of its members. So, we have a full bouquet of activities lined up.”

Public schools teachers would be given 1GB (Gigabyte) data free to enable them to access and browse the internet on a regular basis.

This was revealed by the minister of education, Adamu Adamu on Saturday, October 9 at the 2019 World Teachers Day celebration held in Abuja.

The minister who was represented by the junior minister of education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, said the ministry was working with the Nigerian Communications Commission and other stakeholders to provide at least 1GB of data free to each public school teacher to surf the web and obtain educational materials.

He also revealed that the federal government was working to obtain a life insurance policy for all public school teachers, adding that families of all insured teachers would be given benefits upon the death of the holder.

Two Nigerian teenage girls, Agboola Rofiat and Adekayode Deborah, have broken long jump sport record for their age category in Canada.

According to the videos and screenshot posted by Rofiat father, Shola Agboola, on his facebook page, Rofiat came second and Deborah third in a Canada-wide championship.

With the development, Rofiat is the best in her category as a long jump athlete. In some of the posted pictures, the two young girls could be seen on the winning podium with their medals.

After the after-school club at the Southfields Primary School, Coventry, England realised her technological skill set and her passion for work, it offered the 10-year-old the opportunity to teach so she could show others the amazing things she can do.

Professor Iya Abubakar, a mathematical genius, the third vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria was also many times a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He was also a former senator of Adamawa North between May 1999 and May 2007. He had a first class degree in mathematics at University College Ibadan and a doctorate degree at Cambridge University, England.

It should be noted also that Abubakar was a visiting professor at the University of Michigan between 1955 and 1966 before he became the professor of mathematics at ABU at 28.

According to reports, though the academic has retired from active service, Abubakar made a great contribution during his lecture to mark the university’s annual public lecture.

If the United Kingdom leaves the European Union without a deal on October 31, anyone convicted of tax fraud will be denied entry under new laws.


The UK's negotiations to avoid a hard Brexit are dominating the European press as Boris Johnson struggles to reach agreement with his EU counterparts over Britain’s imminent departure from the continental bloc but there are probably few observers who have yet equated the Irish backstop and customs and trade checks to Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi.

However, the UK’s exit from the European Union may prevent some of the world’s top players from entering the country after October 31 due to a new law that will come into effect denying anyone with a criminal conviction the requisite paperwork. As it stands, provided the person in question is not deemed a threat to national security, that is not the case but the new regulations will affect anyone who has been convicted of tax fraud a visa.

That could affect several team’s plans for the Champions and Europa League. In quotes published by several UK media, Andrew Osborne, a lawyer with the firm Lewis Silkin, explained: “If you are an EU citizen and you have been convicted of an offence or have had a prison sentence imposed [including suspended sentences] you will be denied entry to the United Kingdom.”

Messi, Ronaldo, Costa, Marcelo could all face travel bans


That could affect a number of players including Messi and Ronaldo, who have both been convicted of tax fraud in Spain, as well as Marcelo and Diego Costa. Messi received a 21-month sentence in 2017, which was later successfully exchanged for a fine, while Ronaldo was handed a 23-month term and an 18.8 million fine earlier this year.

Theoretically, that would mean neither the Barça nor Juventus star would be able to represent their clubs or countries on British soil in the case of a hard Brexit, while other figures in football will also be subject to the same travel ban if they are found to have defruaded the Spanish tax authorities.

Rwandan president, Paul Kagame, has launched a smartphone manufacturing plant, the first of its kind in the African continent.
Kagame launched the factory (Mara Phones Production Plant) on Monday, October 7, at the Kigali special economic zone in Gasabo district.

“The Mara phone joins a growing list of high-quality products that are made in our country. Producing smartphones is not a simple matter. Around 1,000 individual components are involved as we have been taken through the whole process,” the chair of the East African Community said.
“The plant is therefore a complex manufacturing operation requiring significant technical skill and expertise and is another milestone on our journey to high-tech made in Rwanda industry,” he added.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) to refrain from playing the ethnic card ahead of the gubernatorial election in Kogi state.
The opposition party told the ruling party to get ready to face the consequences of poor governance it foisted on the people of the state since 2016.

The warning was given in Lokoja by the national publicity secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan.

Ologbondiyan gave the warning in Lokoja, during the inauguration of the PDP's governorship campaign committees, in Lokoja.

He described the APC administration under Governor Yahaya Bello as a complete failure and embarrassment to the people of the state.

Ologbondiyan said: “The people of Kogi state have suffered enough under Governor Yahaya Bello and the APC. Many of our citizens have lost their loved ones and their breadwinners; they have lost husbands, wives children and other loved ones, to the excruciating hardship caused by non-payment of their salary and pensions by Governor Bello. There is no way he can be re-elected."

He advised Governor Bello to start preparing his handover notes, saying the people of the state are determined to vote him out on Saturday, November 16.

The ruling All Progress Congress (APC) has backed former British prime minister who accused former Nigeria president, Goodluck Jonathan, of refusing help, when 274 schoolgirls were kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists in Chibok, Borno state back in 2014.
