If I understand you correctly wifey expects that if you're sending money to your folks, you should send the same amount to her folks too, am I right?

I don't know about the both of you, but if it were me I will do right, do good and do well by my parents, to the best of my ability without looking at what my spouse is doing for their parents or looking to them to do right by my parents for me, when I am still alive, working and earning.

Occasionally, I may ask my spouse to please pick up the slack for me and send something to my folks, if it's a rough month financially and I can't do so. If hubby on his own sends something to my parents without me asking I will be glad and appreciative. But to badger and hound him about it or pick a fight over it, when my hands are not broken, my brain is not malfunctioning and my siblings haven't passed yet........make I bend first.

Aged parents are a vulnerable set of people who need support, care and help the most, especially if they were good parents who did well by you. Additionally their youth and strength are gone, so if you don't help them as a child who has the capacity to do so, no be ment be that?

Usually siblings band together to take care of their parents, it's either they all contribute a monthly sum to be sent home or one sibling sends an allowance of say 50k for February, another does so for March and the responsibility is rotated that way on a monthly basis. It is not that you will go and marry someone's child then want to push the responsibility for your own parents onto them as well.

Honestly, I mean no offence but you and your wife are annoying! Sending money to your folks shouldn't be a bone of contention, where one or both of you start lying or hiding to send money home.

Hope I'm creating this thread in the right section, since depression is about the mental state of one's mind, so I thought of putting it in the health section. Please it might be a little bit lengthy but just take your time and read through. I'm here to seek the opinions, thoughts and views of my fellow nairalanders on this t

You know there will get to some point in a man's life when things do not go in the right direction even after he has deployed various machanisms within his reach. At that point he needs to speak out and seek advice. I have seen how Nlanders contribute intelligently to topics of discuss and that's why I'm using my real handle to post this here.


For 26 years of my existence on the face of this earth, I'm having serious suicidal thoughts of jumping into the Lagos lagoon. Where I live isn't far from the third mainland bridge by bus anyways. I came from an average Home and I have been an introvert all my life.

I rarely make friends because I spend most of my time reading online articles, journals and books. I also spend much time on nairaland. I graduated from secondary school in 2013 but had to hustle and raise money before I finally got admission in 2019 at one of the federal school. I'm the first son of 6 children and most time I feel like i have failed. My parents have been extremely supportive also.

I have deployed various mechanisms and ideas over the years to better my life but if just seems year by year it gets worst. I can't start going into details but at this point my life is hitting the rock bottom. Maybe there is something I might not be doing rightly or is it because I'm irreligious ? My parents have really tried a lot for me and it's really painful that at this stage I can't do anything for them.

I'm also good at being an OAP and also a media personality. I used to anchor talk shows as a teenager in church back then. But I think me being an introvert hasn't really helped also because I do not socialise and shy. I'm seeking opinions on what I can do. Ideas, thoughts and opinions will be deeply appreciated. Thanks!
