The immediate past Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter, Oladele John Nihi has been arrested by men of the Nigerian Police.



In a swift reaction, Justice Helpline Foundation has called for his immediate and unconditional release, describing the arrest as negating the peace accord.

The foundation while reacting to the arrest, Director litigation, A.O Jonathan, said it is calling on the United Nations, the Acting Inspector General of Police to be aware of the harassment and arrest of citizens in Kogi West senatorial district ahead the election slated for Saturday.

The former youth council chairman was arrested alongside his Secretary, Ibukun in there hotel rooms in Okoro Gbedde at Naomi Hotel, near Kabba.

The police alleged to be men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad were said to armed to the teeth with mask, shot sporadically, thus making residents run for safety before the arrest of the youths leader, were said to have been led by a Council Administrator.



The former youth council chairman is a staunch supporter of Sen Dino Melaye, the PDP Senatorial candidate for Kogi West in the next Saturday’s election

For now there is no detail leading to why he is arrested, the whereabouts of the youth leader is still yet to be determined.

The Forum of Yagba East Progressive Youths Pass votes of confidence on Hon. Jimoh Omiata, Endorse his second term bid.

A group of youth under the platform of the Yagba East Progressive Youth has passed a vote of confidence on Alh. Jimoh Omiata the honourable member representing Yagba East constituency .

While granting a press briefing today at Isanlu, the Yagba East headquarters, the National president of the organization Comr. Balogun Abidemi told the news men that the group is a collection of progressive youths cut across Yagba East Local Government and it's aim is basically to unite and fight youthful causes and participate in governance process and ensuring quality representation and dividends of democracy for the development of the local government.

He added that the group has been in existence since 2010 and has been committed to contributing towards the development of Yagba local government.

Sequel to the aforementioned, the group in its usual survellance and watchdog mechanism on governance process has keenly make an assessment on the performance of our representatives with adequate consideration of their physical project and human empowerment achievements to decide our annual commendation and recommendation.

Mr Abidemi said that, all public officials consequently been considered, that Hon. Jimoh Omiata representing the local government at the State Assembly has performed overwhelmingly surpassing and breaking the record of his predecessor.

He said, there's barely any sector he has not touched in the course of registering his imprint of quality representation on the sand of time as a legislator. We have on record the following commendable achievements by the legislator in the last 3years plus that he has been representing the good people of Yagba East.

1. Raising people's oriented and developmental motions on the floor of the house; ranging from motions calling on the Kogi State Government to direct the AEDC to address the epileptic electricity supply, motion calling on the state government to grant access to the community commercial banks for full operation to help the people at the grass roots access banking services, motion calling on the state government to offset some constituents medical bill amongst others.

2. Grading of some township road in the South East and Isanlu Axis

3. Drilling of boreholes across the local government touching the two axis improving access to water for the people

4. Educationally, he has bought jamb for hundreds of students, paid waec fee, pay school fees and gave scholarship to over 200 students cut across the 10 wards of the local government.

5. Women empowerment, youth engagement, payments of hospital bills, constant liaise with other stakeholder and government appointee from the local government to bring development to the local government area.

More to mention but few briefly enumerated to justify his worthiness for the commendation.

The people of Yagba East has never had it this good having a simple, dynamic, outstanding and accessible leader.

Consequently we the youth under the umbrella body of Forum of Yagba East Progressive Youth unanimously pass a vote of confidence on Hon. Jimoh Musa Omiata the member representing Yagba East local government in the Kogi State House of Assembly having been satisfied by his performance and leadership disposition and therefore endorse is second term re-election bid because one good turn deserves another. We hereby agree to break the jinx of the PDP zoning arrangement to compensate the good representation of Alh. Jimoh Omiata

It has come to our notice that last night, a group of hoodlums burnt down the newly contracted and equipped skill acquisition Centre that was facilitated by distinguished Senator Dino Melaye in his home town.

It is disappointing to know that the said Skill acquisition Centre is right beside the police check point, yet this activity was carried out.

It is a shame on the perpetrators of these satanic activities and their sponsors.

The community association have immediately swung to action by reporting this to the police as well as the Royal father, The Olu of Aiyetoro Gbede.

These evil must stop. We call on every progressives to rise against this satanic manifestation as it is an act that is capable of destroying the legacies that could be seen as evidence of development in our area.

We call on the Traditional Institution, Sincere Okun Sons and Daughters to intervene before these agents of darkness turn our communities to a war zone.

The Senator Representing Kogi West Senatorial District has again escaped another assassination.
The Senator who was returning from Mopa, having been earlier stopped from entering Isanlu by hoodlums, closed to Aiyetoro his home town had his vehicles including the one he was riding in shattered with bullets.
An eye witness account alleged that men dressed in police uniform, sporadically shot at the Senator’s vehicle.
The luck which was in favour of the Senator’s vehicle was that the car is bullet proof.
For now there is pandemonium with people running for cover in Aiyetoro. The where about of the Senator is still on known.

KOGI GOVERNMENT SETS UP 25 VIEWING CENTRES FOR THE RUSSIA 2018 WORLD CUP

The Kogi State Government has concluded arrangements to set up 25 centres where interested citizens can watch every match played in Russia 2018 World Cup for free.

The viewing centres, one in each federal constituency in the state, will be set up in easily accessible and secure locations fully equipped with cable TV subscription, projector and screen, standby generator and other accessories.

Our correspondent who was in Government House a short while ago witnessed officials taking delivery of the items for delivery to the designated localities.

The government is also providing constant fuel supply and trained attendants to man the centres. The Nigerian police and other security agencies will provide security for viewers at each centre and forestall any form of violence.

It appears as if lovers of football in Kogi State can look forward to uninterrupted entertainment throughout the mundial, courtesy of their government.

A cross-section of Lokoja youths interviewed on the development commended the gesture and praised the Governor for always finding thoughtful ways to connect with the hearts and interests of his people.
