The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
is to provide 396 Direct Data Capturing Machines
(DDCMs) for 203 Registration Areas during the upcoming
Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise in Ondo
State. Olusegun Agbaje, the Resident Electoral
Commissioner in the state, made this known on
Wednesday at a CVR Stakeholders forum. Agbaje said the DDCMs would be made available at the 193 voting points in the state. According to him, the exercise will take place in the state between June 22 and June 26. Agbaje added that to make it a success, 792 Assistant Registration Officers, made up of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members and INEC staff would handle the machines. The REC said the essence of the exercise was to enable those that attained 18 years after the last CVR exercise to register and obtain their Permanent Voter’s Card. ``The commission is aware of the fact that some people will want to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the exercise to perpetrate actions that contravene registration of voters. ``It should be noted that the commission will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law on any offender during the exercise in line with the Electoral Act, 2010, as amended,’’ he said. Clement Faboyede, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in the state, said he was happy that INEC would provide the machine in every ward. Faboyede said his party would mobilise and encourage people in the state to register. Mr Korede Duyile, the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said he was impressed with the forum. Duyile said people in the state were excited about the CVR exercise because they would vote for a new governor. The Ondo State governorship election would hold on Nov. 26. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/inec-provide-396-ddcms-ondo/ |
Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Wednesday in
Ibadan said government would not rescind its decision
on the ``No Work No Pay’’ rule against striking
workers. Ajimobi, who made the assertion while
monitoring attendance of workers at the State
Secretariat, described as satisfactory the level of
attendance and compliance with government directive. The governor was accompanied by Alhaji Ishmael Alli, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Soji Eniade, the Head of Service as well as other aides. The group went round the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Works and Transport and Ministry of Agriculture. ``You can see that work is going on smoothly here. We are happy about the attendance. We will not pay those who are not in their offices. ``We have appealed to the striking workers to return to work but they remained adamant. We know some of them, they don’t even come to work when there was no strike. ``We have told them that ``no work no pay’’ and we are going to stand by it,’’ he said. Ajimobi said that workers absent from duty would forfeit their pay. Speaking to newsmen after the inspection, Ajimobi urged the labour leaders to embrace modern day unionism, devoid of brigandage, subterfuge and thuggery. ``Modern day unionism is driven by engagement, consultation and productivity. If you don’t want us to implement a policy, you will come to us and tell us. ``We gave them the opportunity to come up with their ideas and proposal but they disrupted the stakeholders’ meeting. ``We want a labour union that will engage us in intellectual discourse and not those who still display the stone age labour practices,’’ he said. The governor said that the entire labour force in the state was not more than 100,000, in comparison to the 10 million population of the state. The governor denied rumour making the rounds that the state government collected N84 billion from the Federal Government between May 2015 and May 2016. He said that the said amount was a combined allocation of both the state government and the local governments, adding that only N42 billion was received for the state during the period. Ajimobi, however, said that a detailed breakdown of how the money was spent would soon be made available, saying that the money was used in paying workers salary. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/no-work-no-pay-ajimobi-tells-striking-workers/ |

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has called on the Federal Government to institute a judicial commission of enquiry into the killings in Agatu and other parts of the state by Fulani herdsmen. The Governor, who made the call yesterday in Makurdi when he hosted stakeholders from Apa and Agatu local government areas of the state, said the commission should, among other things, investigate and document the magnitude of the destruction in the affected communities. He said the state was already compiling statistics on the crisis with a view to forwarding same to the Federal Government for necessary action. While lamenting the magnitude of the destruction in Agatu, Makurdi, Guma, Tarka, Buruku, Gwer and Gwer West, Katsina-Ala, Kwande, Logo and other councils, Ortom insisted that the devastation exceeded what Boko Haram did in the North East. According him: “It is obvious that the destruction and devastation in the affected communities is far reaching and as it is, we lack the capacity to rehabilitate the affected areas.” Earlier, leader of the delegation and Odejo K’ Apa, Chief John Antenyi had commended the Governor for appointing prominent indigenes of the area into the state executive council. He commended the governor's intervention which brought peace to troubled Agatu communities and provision of relief materials to the displaced persons. Chief Antenyi also solicited the rehabilitation of destroyed communities, establishment of a military base in the area to forestall further invasion and provision of a tertiary institution and other basic infrastructure in the area. www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/ortom-seeks-judicial-commission-herdsmens-killing-benue/ |

UMUAHIA—ABIA State government has kicked off a free
primary schools lunch programme aimed at giving the
pupils free meal daily in all public primary schools.
The programme, according to the government, would
help “meet the basic nutritional needs of children and
expand the opportunity to reach their full potential and
significantly enhance the academic performance of the
children.” The programme is to feed a total number of 136, 258 pupils, who will consume 408, 774 fresh eggs, 51, 09, 670 grammes of ofada rice and 68, 120, 000 grammes of beans, weekly. Flagging off the first phase of the programme at Ntigha primary school in Isiala Ngwa North council, weekend, Governor Ikpeazu said the initiative was borne out of a genuine desire to invest in children who are the future leaders. He said that he understood what it meant to go to school on an empty stomach as well as the pains some parents went through to provide meals for their children, saying that under the scheme, every pupil in Abia was sure of at least one meal a day. Ikpeazu lamented tons of food that end up in the dust bin on daily basis by the affluent while some children go hungry due to lack and stressed the need to bridge the gap. He pledged to sustain the programme. |
While you may be totally head over heels in love with your girl, do you
think she feels the same way too? If you feel a twinge of doubt regarding
how serious your girlfriend is about the relationship you both share and if
she is hesitating to take it to the next level then this list should hopefully
clear your mind. 1.She does not commit You have spoken to her innumerable times about making some form of commitment, be it living in together, getting engaged or getting married. But she always seems to be allergic to the word ‘commitment’ and changes the topic. 2.She is still hung up on her ex When you have noticed your girl looking up pictures of her ex, talking to him and saving his messages, more than once or twice, then she is in all probability still hoping for a reconciliation with him while keeping you as the rebound guy. The best way would be to talk to her calmly about how sure she is about you for a long term commitment. 3.She does not respect your feelings More than love, a relationship needs trust and respect, to work. If she constantly does things that don’t show respect for how you feel then it is time for you to rethink about her seriousness towards this relationship. 4.She doesn’t introduce you to her family Meeting your partner’s parents is a big step in a relationship. No one introduces their better half to their family unless they are serious about him or her. So if her family has no clue about your existence even though your folks know her well, then its time to confront her about her commitment |
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man for
allegedly stabbing his friend to death during an
argument over payment for N50 bottle water at Oke-Ira
area, Ogba, Lagos. The deceased, a commercial motorcyclist identified as Nicolas Goddonu, 46, was said to have visited the suspect, Ekanem Enodan, 29, at the shop, in the company of one of his brothers. Tragedy struck after the visiting father of five collected bottled water from Enodan’s shop and attempted to hurriedly leave, without paying. However, the shop owner was alleged to have hit him with a bottle, causing the fleeing motorcyclist to slump. Apparently thinking he was pretending, Enodan as gathered, collected his bottled water and went inside his shop. An alarm raised by the commercial motorcyclist’s brother, on noticing that he was not breathing , jolted everyone at the junction. He was subsequently rushed to the Ifako General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead. There were, however, conflicting accounts from eyewitnesses as to how the father of five died. While some of them alleged that the suspect stabbed him to death, others said he merely pushed him, causing him to hit his head on a hard object. ‘They played a lot’ One of them, who gave his name as Ufom Ekanem, a commercial motorcyclist, said: “The deceased and the suspects were friends. That was not the first time he would collect something from the shop and run away. “But he usually paid later. At times, the shop owner would be chasing the motorcyclist and at other times he would forcefully drag whatever Goddunu collected from his shop. “On that fateful day, the shop owner only pushed the okadaman in the chest, while attempting to collect the bottled water from him. He fell in the process and became unconscious.” Another eyewitness, Biodun Odufare, said: “The deceased was from Egun, while the suspect is from Cross River State. At about 11p.m., an argument which everybody concluded was their normal play, began. “But we suspected that the okadaman was drunk. As he was leaving the shop with the bottled water, the shop owner threw an empty bottle of soft drink at him. “The bottle hit the kiosk and shattered, with one of its broken parts hitting Nicolas in the chest. He fell and was confiremd dead inhospital. ” “He fell down and became unconscious. Later, we heard that he died at the hospital.” Confirming the incident, spokes person for the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmus, said: “On June 9, at about 1a.m., one Mitchonou Suru, 16, reported at Pen-Cinema Division that at about 10:50p.m. the previous day, one Nicolas Goddonu, 46, was hit with a bottle by one Ekanem Enodan, 29, of Baba Dada Estate, Opic, Ogun State, during a quarrel between them. “The victim was rushed to Ifako general hospital where he later died. Suspect was arrested and detained while corpse was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy. |

Want to end extreme poverty? Technology hyper-
billionaire Bill Gates says the answer is chickens.
And that's not the name of new Microsoft software.
Gates, the founder of the world's largest software
company, says the best thing to improve the lives of the
world's poorest is not computers or the Internet but
raising a few roosters and hens.
"It's pretty clear to me that just about anyone who's
living in extreme poverty is better off if they have
chickens," he said this week on his website
GatesNotes.com.
The world's richest person, who made his $75 billion
fortune pushing for a Microsoft computer in every home,
said his Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has just
partnered with the global development group Heifer
International to donate some 100,000 chickens to
families in sub-Saharan Africa living on less than $2 a
day.
The goal, he said, is to get 30 percent of the rural
families in the region to raise improved breeds of
vaccinated chickens, compared with the current five
percent.
The return is better than other solutions, he said:
Chickens cost little to take care of, they mulitiply fast and
eggs and chicken meat can boost family nutrition.
They also empower women, he said.
"Because chickens are small and typically stay close to
home, many cultures regard them as a woman's animal,
in contrast to larger livestock like goats or cows. Women
who sell chickens are likely to reinvest the profits in their families. |

As Age Qualification Bill passes 2nd reading
By Johnbosco Agbakwuru ABUJA—THE Bill seeking to reduce the age qualifications for interested candidates to contest for the positions of President, governor and senate in the country to 30 years yesterday passed second reading in the House of Representatives. The bill, which also makes provision for independent candidacy into the country’s electoral process, further reduces the age qualifications to contest for the House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly to 25 years. The Bill is an alteration of section 65, 106, 131 and 177 of the 1999 constitution which had prescribed qualification into the office of President to 40 years and above, office of governors and senate, 35 years and above as well as House of Representatives and state Houses of Assembly to 25 years and above. In his lead debate, the sponsor of the bill, Tony Chinedu Nwulu representing Oshodi-Isolo 11 Federal Constituency of Lagos State, on platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, noted that electing candidates into public offices was an important aspect of democratic practices. He stated: “Countries like the United Kingdom parliament decided in 2006 to lower their age of candidacy from 21 to 18, which had existed since the Parliamentary Elections Act 1695. An age candidacy of 25 would encourage greater youth participation in politics.” Nwulu stated that many countries world wide had called for a reduction in age qualification into elected offices, adding that the bill was a demonstration of the growing desire and demand of youths to participate in the democratic process. According to him, “this desire itself could be viewed as a sufficient warrant for young people to participate, demonstrate a willingness to engage and fulfill the burdens of office.” On the Independent candidacy, he stressed the need to open up the space for lawmakers to come in as independent candidates. He said: “It is pertinent now to amend the constitution to make room for independent candidates to widen the democratic processes in our elections, and above all to encourage our young ones to fully participate in all elective offices. |

(1) INDEPENDENT The ability to be independent is something that not everyone possesses. Learning to support yourself is fundamental for any success you ever hope to achieve. Being independent is actually very good, but now a lot of people use it to cover that they suck at being a team player, or being a bad leader. Do not confuse independence with apathy. (2) ADAPTABLE You will yourself invite fears and problems for yourself by making use of this word. Adaptable, yes, you may be but adjustment is the right word. Say you are flexible enough to adapt to any new environment. This word is something positive and gives a sense of positivity to the one’s taking your interview. You may adjust in any kind of situation be it good or bad, as sometimes worse conditions may also arise, you never know, no matter how big or renowned the company is, so just say that you are always happy in adjusting to the new safe environment. (3) STRAIGHTFORWARD There's a very thin line between being straightforward and being plain rude. Straightforward is usually a code word for rude, abrasive, disrespectful, or impolite. You are allowed to be straightforward, but don't call yourself like that. (4) FEARLESS Every single individual has some or the other sort of fear at some or the other point of time. Be it a fear of passing off the cockroach, or a fear of giving a presentation to the staff. Everyone possesses it somewhere in the corner of the heart. During an interview, never say that you are fearless. You may use the word brave to take up all kinds of challenges, but do not mention the word fearless as it may put a negative impact and you will be depicted as an over confident person. (5) EMPATHETIC What is empathy? It’s the ability to step into the shoes of another person, aiming to understand their feelings and perspectives, and to use that understanding to guide our actions. Empathy is a great quality, but saying that you're empathetic actually sounds like you are not at all. (6) TALENTED Don’t say that you are talented, many are there. It is just that talent is acknowledged when hard work is the driving force behind it. If the qualities like hard work, dedication, concentration are not a driving force behind your talent, then your talent is of no use. Every person is born with some or the other talent. So, push your talent with some good deal of work, not just with the mere words. (7) PASSIONATE You may be passionate enough, but you are adviced to show your passion through work, not through your words. Anyone can show the passion through high motivating words, but a person is tight lipped when it came to displaying the passion through the work already done. ( SELF DISCIPLINEDAny disciplined person we have ever met willingly admits they find it difficult to stay focused at times. Saying you’re self-disciplined is either redundant or not true. Redundant because congratulations you were focused enough to finish the task today, but what about tomorrow or the next day, it’s an ongoing process, one that will require you to work hard to maintain your discipline. Or, the less favourable scenario, the employer might suspect this statement to be untrue; if you feel you need to say how disciplined you are, chances are, you’re not. (9) GENEROUS Being described as generous is similar to respect, in that it is something you earn, rather than something you can claim for yourself. You may be, but if you are prepared to say it in public then you are not humble (see above). And we value ‘humble’. And we want our ‘generosity’ without thought for personal gain and acknowledgement. So don’t say it. Live it. (10) HUMBLE It is strange to hear someone's bragging about how humble they are. It just doesn’t work. Don’t walk into this unfortunate contradiction and try to talk your way out of it. The more you try to explain this, the more you wear down your interviewer’s trust. Just by saying it, you prove that you are not. Oya Drop Yours............... |
SELF DISCIPLINED
