1) It is too early to tell what his fully developed skill set will be

2) As a central midfielder he doesn't really have to be flashy to do his job. His main duties are the press and win the ball, circulate it when in possession, and make smart decisions in terms of taking care of the ball.

3) You can't have only flashy, world class players in a squad. Everyone can't be Pogba or Zidane. As a squad player and home grown talent McTominay would be given every opportunity in the club and you can't be sure how it will turn out.

I pray and hope he gets better than this soon enough too.

You cannot have a team of 23 Tier 1 players! There's something called a wage structure and player quotas. Players like McTominay and Lingard will always have a future in a football club.

There is a need to also consider the manager's tactics, from today's game and others that McTominay have played he has been OKAY. No unnecessary risks or mistakes. McTominay is a squad player that is why he is not playing week in week out.

McTominay was ok. He helped give some defensive cover on the right side and circulated the ball quite well especially in the 2nd half.
He is not world class but he is still young AND his midfield education was slowed by injuries and by playing in attack in his year with the reserves.

I never wrote that the boy did badly today but my point remains that being OK doesn't guarantee a future at UTD.
Cleverly too was ok. For this boy to guarantee himself a future here, he has to improve drastically. There is nothing absolutely exciting about the boy. SIMPLE

He played according to instruction and did what was expected of him. He recycled possession effectively and he was the midfielder appointed to start the pressing and make tackles among the 3 midfielders today.

If you don't understand the mechanics and tactics of football, keep calm and learn. If McTominay was not playing well he won't be in the team. Do you expect him to play like Pogba, making fancy 50m passes and some flicks? If he makes a wrong pass you will be the first guy to crucify him. As a back up he is OKAY.

Nevertheless, with Fellaini and Carrick leaving in the summer there is a need to get 2 solid Tier 1 or 2 midfielders such as Jorginho of Napoli, Savic of Lazio and Seri of OG Nice. I am a little bit sceptical of players from the Serie A though.

I've known about his development for close to a year now via match videos and staff reports from mutv....Jose has been allowing him train sporadically with the 1st team now and butt has said he should be the next guy to follow angel gomes unto the first teams bench. There is a reason why the coach has said we are not looking for any attackers this summer...I expect both of them to feature a bit during our last 5 matches of the season if we have secured our 2nd position by then and also to become regular bench boys by next season

I watched him against Spurs and dude was on fire. unbelievable close control, knows how to work with space, knows how to run with the ball and extremely technically gifted.
