Hello. Please I drive a 2003 Honda accord EOD. I had a problem with its Steering rack which was leaking and made the steering hard. The steering pump was also making noise which I was told was caused by the leaking rack so I took it to Ladipo where it was fixed. After fixing the rack, the steering became soft but the pump was still making noise. After some weeks my mechanic advised to let him go and fix the pump in Ladipo so it wouldn't damage the rack I went to fix and regrettably, I agreed. After fixing the pump, the noise stopped but steering is hard again. Please what can I do?

Celebrities / Mainstream Singers Are Not Artistes Says Seun Kuti by slimtee101: 4:09pm On Dec 01, 2016
Afrobeat singer, Seun Anikulapo Kuti, has said that it was wrong to call many of the new-school Nigerian pop singers artistes, saying that they were actually entertainers.

Seun was recently a guest on Diddy’s Revolt TV where he said that there was no depth in their music as he compared them with packaged products. “Most people that are called artistes are really just entertainers. There’s no depth to them, people write their songs for them, they are packaged like a product and sold to the mainstream media as art but there is really no depth and when there is no depth, it can’t be art.

“When I sing socially or politically charged songs, it’s not just about making an album, it’s about the responsibility of art to the society. Most people forget that art has a responsibility to the society… but to be honest, most real artistes are not even famous or successful financially or commmercially,” he said.

He also said that it was not correct to call pop singers Afro beat singers or Afro-pop singers as there was no correlation between the two genres. “I don’t think this is Afrobeat, it’s pop music. It is not Afrobeat in any way, shape or form. In terms of composition, in terms of arrangement, in terms of message, it’s pop music but they are afraid to compete with American pop musicians so they are trying to say ‘oh we are different’ so I won’t be surprised if Wizkid is able to make it to Billboard because it is pop music and he could relate. Some of them are making mistake trying to pander, they are talented, they have good music, they have catchy lyrics so sell yourself based on your strengths. Don’t pander, don’t be scared. Like me now, I don’t get a lot of radio play, my music is not radio friendly as they say, i would never get that kind of...

Celebrities / Seun Egbegbe Passed The Night In Detention, Still ‘Relaxing’ Behind Bars by slimtee101: 4:20pm On Nov 23, 2016
Revealed! Seun Egbegbe Passed The Night In Detention, Still ‘Relaxing’ Behind Bars

Celeb Police can confirm that Seun Egbegbe’s arrogant denial of stealing and his claim, yesterday, that he was ‘relaxing’ at home is total garbage as our agent saw him in an open cell at the Area F, Police station, Ikeja, Lagos, early this afternoon.
The popular film marketer was still donning the blood-stained attire he was wearing when he was caught and beaten up by a mob for attempting to make away with eight iPhones yesterday at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos.

After the story made the rounds, a purported rejoinder from Seun was circulated online with the accused denying that he was caught stealing, He even claimed in the statement that was released yesterday evening that he was ‘relaxing’ in his house.

The purported statement read, “I want to state here categorically and emphatically that though I was at Computer Village to address some issues, but I was never arrested for stealing 10 I phone 7s, as stated by the writer of the story, the matter has since been resolved by the Nigeria Police; and the issue of me stealing phone is devilish from the said writer…

…Finally, I wish to inform the general public to discard the report. I am presently at home relaxing!”
CP can confirm that the above statement is very far from the truth as Seun Egbegbe passed the night ‘relaxing’ in the open cell at Area F police command. He was sighted by our agent looking tired, unkempt and completely stressed out. He was also fidgety as he kept... Celebrities / Liar, Seun Egbegbe ‘stole The Iphones By Trick’ – Computer Village Exco Insists by slimtee101: 4:03pm On Nov 23, 2016
Authorities at the popular gadget market, Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, have affirmed reports that Toyin Aimakhu’s former lover, Seun Egbegbe, indeed stole eight iPhones worth over 2 million naira and tried to make away with them.

Celeb Police super agent, Daniel Fayemi was at Computer Village this morning where he spoke with Chief Whip of the market association, Okueye Kunle, about the events of yesterday, November 22, 2016.

“All I can tell you that it is real. He stole those phones. What he did is what they call stealing by trick. I don’t want to comment much on the case since it is now a police case and Area F Police command is handling it but that story they said he wrote that he did not steal anything is not correct. Celebrities / Oritsefemi, DJ Humility, Jesse Jags & More – How Did Celebs Turn Into Hooligans? by slimtee101: 11:17am On Nov 18, 2016
Some Nigerian celebrities have finally gone mad! They just have to be mad because there are not many ways to describe the violent outbursts we have experienced from these guys in the past week.
The first celeb that went mad was singer, Oritsefemi, who sauntered into a luxury night club without a reservation, got the establishment to get him a seat in the VIP and repaid their hospitality by stabbing their security in the eye, narrowly missing his victim’s eyeballs. And instead of immediately recognising the error of his ways like sane people do and apologise accordingly, he doubled his ‘wahala’ by lying in his initial accounts, before mocking our sensibilities by doing a belated photo op on a sick bed. Celeb Police finds the artiste’s behaviour in the episode disappointing and unbecoming of the real word ‘celebrity’ because they are supposed to be people that are celebrated and there is absolutely nothing worthy of celebrating about people who go about breaking bottles and stabbing people.

Then there is the case of DJ Humility, who also lost his head and joined other frustrated Arik Air passengers in holding the airline’s staff hostage for delaying their flight from Kaduna to Lagos. Granted, it is an unpleasant experience when you book a 2pm flight and it is delayed till around 12am on the following day but taking laws into your hand is not a culture we want to be promoting or celebrating in the Nigeria of our dreams. Imagine the scenario if every time people’s flight got delayed, they just go haywire and start holding airline staff to hostage. We would just have a banana republic on our hands and we definitely don’t want that.

Barely 24 hours after the DJ (Not-So-Humble) Humility scenario, another footage emerged online of singers, Peeshaun of Skuki fame and rapper, Jesse Jags, causing a major scene at Abuja Airport after Dana Airline delayed their flight. Peeshaun especially was seen in the footage jumping up and down like one ‘Van Damme’ that was going to... Celebrities / 5 Undeniable Signs Ubi Franklin’s 1 Year Old Marriage Is Definitely In Trouble by slimtee101: 4:13pm On Nov 01, 2016
Today, November 1, 2106 is the first wedding anniversary of Triple MG boss, Ubi Franklin and his actress wife, Lilian Esoro. Considering the razzmataz that preceded the union and followed the knot-tying proper, today is expected to be a landmark to be celebrated by the parents of one kid.

Unfortunately, this is not the case as both Ubi and Lilian have completely ignored themselves, carrying on their businesses of the day as if it wasn’t exactly a year ago that they both said ‘I Do’ before God and man. (Ubi’s late-afternoon face-saving post notwithstanding)

Celeb Police’s Daniel Fayemi lists 5 undeniable common sense pointers to a seriously troubled marriage.

Restaurant Opening Snub: Credit to Ubi Franklin here, he tried to hide the crack in their relationship behind a smokescreen when he claimed that his new restaurant was for his wife. It kind of backfired though as her absence at the event was hugely felt. The excuse that she was in Paris doesn’t hold water too because she would have come home to host guests if the restaurant were hers and all was well. Till this moment, she has not said anything about the restaurant on her social media. She didn’t even bother to pretend she cared by doing a ‘congratulations to my husband’ on the restaurant thing.

Wedding Ring Off: You know the sh*t is real as a man when the Mrs is no longer motivated to wear the expensive wedding ring you bought for her. Lillian is no longer adorning her wedding ring and she seems to want people to see that clearly as she has been flaunting her naked fingers of late.

Fraternising With The Enemy: One of the most famous quotes from the award winning movie, Slumdog Millionaire is ‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend’. Yesterday was Ubi’s former partner turned competitor, Iyanya’s birthday and Ubi completely shunned his former friend. So did label mate, Tekno as they both declined to do ‘eye service’ and wish him... Culture / No More Witches In Ile-ife - Ooni Ogunwusi by slimtee101: 4:57pm On Mar 07, 2016
Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has appealed to sons and daughters of Ife all over the world to assist in developing the town, declaring that Ile-Ife was now free of witches and wizards.

Ogunwusi said this on Sunday when he hosted Ife Klub 1, a group of eminent sons of his kingdom based in different parts of the country.

The group was led by Ahmed Omisore, a former Lagos Lawmaker, who is the the chairman of the board of trustees of Ife klub 1.

“This Klub worked with my last two predecessors and is now working with me, so by the grace of God it will never disintegrate,” he said.
“I must stress to you all that the wellbeing of Ile-ife is paramount to me because we are like the proverbial white chicken who doesn’t appreciate its value. Whereas, it is in its home that the chicken is not highly regarded, it is highly valued abroad. “God himself resides in Ile-Ife and that is the truth. There are many Ife sons and daughters who the land has blessed but they abandon their roots.
“They say there are witches in Ile-Ife that kill children, or that if they establish businesses at home, witches won’t allow them to prosper. There are no witches here that will disturb anybody anymore. They now want to have money and send their children to school too.”

The monarch appealed to his people to contribute towards the development of the kingdom, saying he is putting in his best to ensure that Ile-Ife becomes a leading tourist destination.
“Some are making money in Ife, yet they don’t contribute anything to its development, rather they take their monies to Ibadan, Ilesha, Lagos, London and America,” he said.
“The Almighty has restored Ile-Ife’s glory and we must not let it go dim. So many people of Ife origin have refused to come back home and this is why we are making concerted efforts to put many things in place to attract them. “An example is the palace that we are redeveloping which will be an edifice of pride for all Ife people because it’s not only for the King. Tourists from far and near will come here and marvel at the fabulousness of this palace.
“They will also get to learn about our rich cultural heritage.
Do you know that people from China, Indonesia and other far flung places visit the Buckingham Palace in England just to witness the change of guards? “Crowds troop the palace everyday just to see this and their culture is helping their economy. This is why I am surprised that even Ife indigenes seem not to cherish their heritage. Plans are in motion already to reposition Ile-Ife but we should not leave everything to the Ooni. Those of you with businesses should come and establish in Ife.”

Politics / Revealed: How FG Abandoned Nigerian Ebola Heroes - Greennews by slimtee101: 11:46am On Jan 08, 2016
By Daniel Fayemi

The Federal Republic of Nigeria is perceived by many as a country that finds it difficult to recognise and honour its real heroes, whether in the academia, sports, arts or other endeavours. Rather than honour them, such heroes are left to wonder what might have been if they were citizens of countries that reward excellence and service.
Yet, it is still alarming that President Goodluck Jonathan, the former president, could send hundreds of brilliant young Nigerians to the jaws of possible death on a critical mission to stem the tide of the deadly Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) in West Africa and elect not to appreciate their gallantry.

Nigerian volunteers who contributed to the African Union interventions in the Ebola hit countries between December 2014 and May 2015 are, unlike their contemporaries from other countries, yet to receive any recognition whatsoever from the government for their meritorious service. But considering that they risked it all (they could have died), just to help Africa defeat the deadly virus, it is actually not out of place nor too late to make amends for this failure to give honour to whom it is due for once.

The heroics of Dr Stella Ameyo Adadevoh, who helped to stop the spread of Ebola in Nigeria and lost her life in the process, is well documented and acclaimed worldwide, but at home, the proverbial prophet still has no honour. Due to Adadevoh’s and many others’ efforts, Just Ninety three days after the American Liberian, Patrick Sawyer imported the Ebola Virus Disease into Nigeria, Nigeria was officially declared Ebola-free.

Volunteers Weren’t Forthcoming
After Nigeria became Ebola free, the country decided to help with some of its health experts as the FG made the pledge to the African Union that they were going to deploy over 500 healthcare workers to assist other Ebola ravaged African countries battle the menace. This according to multiple sources almost caused the nation embarrassment as doctors refrained from volunteering for the dangerous mission. This led the government to recruit those healthcare workers who worked during the outbreak in Lagos and Port Harcourt as the core of the team. Few other brave health workers joined them afterwards.

Greennews.ng spoke with one of the medical doctor volunteers to the African Union Mission, Dr. Freeman Osonuga on his reasons for volunteering in spite of the attendant risk. “I only saw it as an opportunity of being a humanitarian because I had done a lot of humanitarian work for many years. I just saw it as a way to save fellow human lives, professionally especially when the continent was in crisis. So, I volunteered like every other persons. We had about three to four days training in Lagos. Then we left for our various countries. It was a chartered aircraft and some of us were dropped in Liberia and others in Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone was at the peak of their outbreak then. It was the hot zone of the transmission of the infection. I was deployed to Serria Lone. I was one of the Doctors that worked in the case management – (The Doctors that treated the Ebola patients in the treatment centre).

6 Months After, ‘No Simple Thank You’ From Nigerian Government
Apart from Nigeria, several other countries sent health workers for the same mission and upon their return, rolled out the drums in celebration of their heroes for making their respective countries proud.

In Ghana, President John Mahama honoured the 42 volunteer health workers made up of 41 Ghanaians and one Cuban with the national award, Grand Order (Ordinary Division) at a lavish ceremony. Health workers from Ethiopia and Kenya also got Presidential reception upon their return as confirmed by a disappointed Dr. Freeman.

He said, “In Ethiopia, for example, when the volunteers came back, they gave them red carpet reception from the airport with military parades. Then the Kenyans got presidential reception, they had breakfast with the president and were nationally honoured. We did so well that when we were leaving, the President of Sierra Leone and Liberia gave our volunteers in each of those countries awards. When we came back, there was not even a welcome ceremony or thank you.

“UK had honoured all of their Ebola volunteers. Most of these people only worked for weeks. The UK people only worked for about five to six weeks maximum and they went back to their country. But we were there for six months and some of us worked for nine months in those high risk places on a National assignment. It’s really pathetic. Nigeria is not encouraging us to volunteer more and be more patriotic. It’s a mission that is as deadly as a war zone. And if you die on that mission that is the end of it.”

When asked if he was angry with the government for abandoning them after completing their mission, Dr. Freeman was quick to stress that he held no grudge with the FG, but he was disappointed nonetheless.

He said, “It’s not as if am mad with the Government. I have had a lot of media exposure and they have asked me in all of those places about what the Government was supposed to do and didn’t eventually do. I chose not to talk about it so it’s not that I’m mad with the Government. But the Government just need to do what is right. They send people out on a deadly national mission and they come back with no recognition, it’s really bad.”

Nigeria Her Own Enemy?

The shabby treatment Nigerian heroes receive from its government is largely responsible for the low interest of many Nigerians in patriotic ventures. It is difficult to convince others on the benefits of service to their country when those who do so often return with tales of abandonment and lack of gratitude. “You can’t treat people like they are worthless and expect the best from them. Do you know what it means to risk your life for your country? I’m not even able to talk about it internationally or even in the Media that the Government sent me somewhere for six months on a National assignment and I came back with no recognition. No thank you, No welcome. It’s a shame and I don’t think I will want to go for such again,” quipped Dr. Freeman.

Time For Buhari To Act

A lot of Nigerians were pleasantly surprised last November when President Muhammadu Buhari announced his uncommon decision to reward the victorious golden eaglets team of 1985 after it was discovered that they did not get the rewards promised them 30 years earlier. This chivalrous act should not stop there as the country’s Ebola heroes remain on the fringes, feeling used and dumped by their country. It will most certainly not be out of place for the presidency to right this wrong by making our Ebola heroes feel loved and appreciated.

Politics / How Boko Haram Recruited Nigerian Youths For Africa’s Biggest Terrorist Invasion by slimtee101: 11:36am On Jan 08, 2016
By Daniel Fayemi

The successful invasion and capturing of Mubi, the commercial nerve centre and second largest town in Adamawa state as well as neighbouring towns and villages, by the deadly terror group, Boko Haram in 2014 was neither accidental nor a fluke achievement. It was as a result of carefully orchestrated plans which exposed the vulnerability of many Nigerian youths to vices of different shades, Greennews.ng can confirm.

Although the actual invasion took place on October 29, 2014, the foundations for the carnage were laid as early as 2013. Information gathered by the Greennews.ng team on a fact-finding trip to Boko Haram most ravaged towns in Adamawa state revealed that thousands of youths were recruited with a simple strategy that exploited the basic needs of the pliable, unsuspecting young Nigerians.

Unemployment, Poverty Bane Of Nigerian Youths

In late 2013, a youth empowerment form was widely circulated in Mubi and other neighboring towns. The form requested that interested applicants should declare their full bio data, i.e full name, age, address, phone number and other personal details. The form also required each applicant to indicate how much they would need to start a business so that funds could be released to them in form of grants. Expectedly, youths trooped out to fill the forms in their thousands and submitted them without knowing exactly who their benefactor was.

By February 2014, the ‘charitable’ empowerment agents (Boko Haram) returned with bags of cash and started disbursing monies to the youths who applied. Greennews.ng learnt that each person was paid between N200,000 and 1 million naira, depending on what business they wanted to go into. That was how they were empowered without being asked for anything in return. They got free monies and pocketed it, thanking their stars.

Payback Time, With Blood And More

Months after disbursing free monies to Mubi youths, the Boko Haram men returned for their beneficiaries. Having documented their bio data, the Boko Haram started calling people to join them as payback for the money they gave out. They were calling them based on those forms they filled.

Greennews.ng spoke with one of such victims who did not want his name in print. “In mid 2014, they came in strategically. A lot of them were not even Nigerians because of the way they looked. They were probably from Chad. Their hair, colours did not look Nigerian. When they came back for us, some went with them willingly, but a lot of us did not follow them willingly but we reluctantly did because we had used the money they gave us. I got 250,000 from them. God knows I was not aware that they were Boko Haram people when they were giving us money.”

It was further learnt that a lot of youths joined them so they would never have to pay back the money. However, a lot of them were slaughtered when they refused to join the terrorist group. Nevertheless, Boko Haram was able to recruit thousands from Mubi alone by offering them financial freedom. The irony was that they gave up their freedom the moment they got the monies.

Boko Haram Spent Billions Of Naira On Recruitment Alone

A quick estimation of the monies Boko Haram invested on the recruitment scheme by the Greennews.ng team indicates that Boko Haram spent billions of naira on recruitment alone. In Mubi, it was speculated that about 4,000 youths partook in the empowerment scheme. If this figure was added to those recruited from other neighboring towns of Gombi, Madagali, Hong, Mararaba, Kala and Gwoza, it would be safe to speculate that at least 10,000 youths were empowered with an average of N400,000 per person, suggesting that not less than N4 billion was spent. This proves that Boko Haram’s money was not in short supply.

Negligence of traditional rulers, local governments

The negligence of the traditional rulers in these communities and local government Chairmen that were supposed to be closer to the masses cannot be overlooked. It leaves much to be desired that such a scheme of gargantuan ramifications escaped the radar of these institutions, truth be told. This seemingly simple negligence led to the untimely deaths of hundreds, including women and babies, not to mention the loss of valuable properties.

Politics / Petroleum Minister: Buhari Copied Babangida’s Illegality – Jide Johnson by slimtee101: 4:34pm On Nov 12, 2015
The decision by President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint himself as Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum has attracted criticisms from various quarters, with many questioning its legality, as well as its morality.

Deputy Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Mr. Jide Johnson in this exclusive interview with greennews.ng insisted that the President’s appointment of himself as Petroleum Minister was an anomaly, which was against the principle of leadership and delegation.

When asked what his take on the development was, Mr Johnson said, “I think the President needs to be the Minister of Agriculture, Defence, Finance, Works, Power as well as Education because all these Ministries require special intervention. Since the President has the midas touch to take care of the areas that are central to our political economic and social development, he should take care of those ministries.

“The President has enough on his plate. This nonsense started when Babangida colonized ministry of defence under him. It is an anomaly; it is antithetical to the principle of leadership and delegation. What is the level of education of the President? What is his technical knowhow of that Ministry? He is meant to have a cabinet made up of Ministers that will come and give him brief and he will give them direction. He has a lot of things on his plate.

“It is like you are a King over a territory and you decide to be the Governor of a particular colony and also the prince over a particular colony. We the media are not helping the matter in highlighting issues that are contrary to normal democratic and leadership ethos.

Doesn’t the law give room for him to head the Minister of Petroleum?

“It is Only in Nigeria we love titles. For instance, let me introduce the President. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome the President/Commander in Chief/ and Minister of Petroleum Resources. It’s absolutely incredulous. It is an insult on the totality of our intelligence. Are you telling me that there are no people in the Oil and Gas industry that can handle this?

“The letter of the law does not specify whether the President could be the Minister or not. What the Judiciary does is to interpret the constitution, to look at the spirit of the law. Does the constitution say that the President can appoint himself Minister?

“The President shall appoint Ministers and assign them portfolios, that’s what the constitution says. Until we begin to challenge illegality, this Democracy will not thrive.

“I think we need to take the President to court on that matter. Does he have the right to make himself a Minister? The mere fact that you are popular does not mean that every of your action would be legal. I wish Fela was alive. He would have sang a song that authority stealing pass Armed Robbery.

Politics / Power, Housing And Works Together, Fashola’s Recipe For Failure – Yinka Odumakin by slimtee101: 9:52am On Nov 12, 2015
Reactions have continued to trail today’s (November 11, 2015) swearing in by President Muhammadu Buhari of his cabinet after five long months of waiting for him to do same.

Buhari while inaugurating his cabinet today, expressed optimism “that bringing these set of ministers into the service of our country today, is a step in the right direction and timely move towards realising our positive goals for our country.”

Greennews.ng spoke with President Buhari’s former spokesman and National Publicity Secretary of the Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin on Nigerians expectations of the new Ministers.

He said, “They have to hit the ground running because they have lost almost six months out of four years. There is no time because all the economic indices are going down. JP Morgan has delisted Nigeria from Emerging Market, you know about Virgin sacking all their Nigerian workers, things are generally not looking good and there has been no economic direction yet.

“Now that new ministers have been sworn in, there must be clear direction and in the midst of the global oil crisis, they need to think out of the box to move the country out of the woods. It is not a time to start partying or celebrating, it is rather time for them to roll their sleeves and get working. I have had enough of excuses, of finger pointing and all. Yes, we must fight corruption but there must be a clear direction in doing that.

When asked specifically about the newly merged Ministry of Power, Works and Housing which is headed by the former Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola which is critical to the economy as Nigerians are tired of darkness, Odumakin said, “I think that to give one man the ministry of works, power and housing is a recipe for failure. I say this because of the enormity of the task involved. I dare say that if God does not help him, it may be the demystification of the whole Fashola myth. Power alone is more than enough for someone to cope with in the administration but to now combine it with works, you know how bad all the roads are across the country and then housing too. I hope he does not get crushed by the weight of this responsibility. That is my prayer for him.

Ado-Ekiti- Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has fingered the All Progressive Congress led Federal Government in the death of former Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
Describing the death as painful and unfortunate, Fayose said, the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government finally
succeeded in hounding an Ijaw leader to death just because of his staunch stance on the upcoming Bayelsa State governorship election.”

Fayose, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka said, the governor commiserated with the deceased family, former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan as well as the Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon Seriake Dickson and the entire people of the State.

The governor, who prayed for the repose of the soul of the late former Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation, said his death was “an eclipse of a political figure, who despite all political odds, still commanded great respect from his people.”
While blaming the Federal Government for his death, Governor Fayose said; “Obviously, the Federal Government was behind the plot to extradite the Alamieyeseigha to the United Kingdom to face fresh trial, a situation that made him to abandon his medical treatment in Dubai.
“Even though I am not against anti-corruption fight, it is painful that in the present day Nigeria, political vendetta is being allowed to override the sovereignty of the country, such that the Presidency was eager to release, a citizen of Nigeria that had been tried, convicted and later pardoned in accordance with the laws of the country.

“Having been tried and convicted eight years ago, served his sentence and forfeited properties to the Bayelsa State Government; methinks Alamieyeseigha should have been allowed to live his life without unnecessary political intimidation and harassment.

“I have consistently asked them why they have closed their eyes to the corruption allegations against their own people. Why is their attention only on people from the Southern part of Nigeria? And now that Alamieyeseigha has been hounded and harassed to death, what else can the apostles of political vendetta do?

“My prayer is that God in His infinite mercies will console the entire Alamieyeseigha’s family and the people of Bayelsa State, especially members of our great party, the PDP and also grant them the fortitude to bear this sad and painful loss.”

Politics / Military Can Never Defeat Boko Haram By December – Jide Johnson by slimtee101: 8:36am On Oct 08, 2015
Deputy Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, (NIJ) Lagos, Mr. Jide Johnson has stated that the Military cannot deliver on its promise to end the Boko Haram insurgency by December 2015.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, had in September, insisted that the military was determined to end Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria by December, in accordance with President Buhari’s directive. “I want to reassure Nigerians that Nigerian Army is ever determined to succeed in meeting up with the set deadline of defeating Boko Haram terrorists by the end of this year,’’ he said.

However, in this interview with Greennews.ng’s Daniel Fayemi, Mr. Johnson said that the Army was being insincere with Nigerians by making unrealistic claims that will only leave Nigerians disappointed after the expiration of the December deadline.

What is your take on the state of the Nation at 55?

“We are making progress, no doubt. But the issue of security and the threat of terrorism needs to be addressed, all hands needs to be on deck. It is not a problem that started now and it is not a problem that can be solved immediately. It requires a holistic approach and sincerity.

“I think what has been lacking with public governance in Nigeria is the sincerity of those in government to tell us the true state of situations. If this had happened in America, they give daily briefings, comprehensive information as regards what the government is doing in order to assuage the feelings of the people in order to boost the confidence and morale of the people in going about their normal activities. I will advise Government to be open to tell people what exactly they are doing instead of making general remarks like ‘we are winning the war’ and so on.

But The Military has said that Boko Haram will be no more by December

“Even United States that moved into Iraq, have they solved the problem of Al-Qaeda or ISIS? Britain moved into Libya to oust Gaddafi, what do we have there? I keep making reference to anyone that cares to listen anytime this issue comes up, go and read page 8 of Obasanjo’s letter to Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, then the president of the federal republic on December 2, 2013. Check the last paragraph in page 8 then you will see the totality of what needs to be done concerning Boko Haram.

“Which Nation do you think wins guerrilla warfare? You can win the war and loose the battle for the mind and soul of your people. Can you go to Maiduguri as you are seated here? For me, that is just propaganda and we don’t need that. What we need is sincerity of purpose.

So you are saying that the Military cannot flush out Boko Haram by December?

“They can’t! Go and read that letter. The issue of Boko Haram is deep seated, it is beyond religion. There is gun trafficking, money laundering and there is human trafficking, like Obasanjo highlighted in his letter and it requires a carrot and stick approach, all hands have to be on deck. You need to engage the local community in order to win a war. No war as ever been won without engaging the local community in the warfare."
