Politics / Re: Full Text Of Supreme Court Judgment That Rejected LG Autonomy by slivertongue: 6:43pm On Jul 21 |
senatordave1: Agreed that the Supreme Court is a public policy institution but it can't bypass a valid constitutional provision built on the tenets of Federalism while the constitution is not reviewed to keep with the new resolve. Of course after this administration which is using shortcut to make mockery of constitutional laid down direction for addressing issues, the status quo will return. The lone judgment is sound, the case died when the judge posited that FG is not the LG, a meddlesome interloper. |

Paraman: Citing the case of the ‘Attorney General of Abia state Vs Attorney General of the Federation supra’, the judge also held that the federal government ought not to meddle in the business of how states share the allocated money with the LG councils, adding that the LGs are not independent of states. |

Paraman: “It is my understanding, on reading the provisions of Section 7 of the Constitution along with those of Section 162 of the Constitution together, that the essence of the mode of payment of the funds due to the Local Governments Areas of a State through the State provided for in the Constitution is in recognition of the fact that the Local Government Areas are constituent parts of and are subordinate to the State and to protect the concept of federalism contained in the Constitution. |

The prayer of the Plaintiff that this Court should order direct payments of the funds due to the Local Government Areas from the Federation Account to the Local Government Councils by the Federal Government, and thus bypassing the States, is in, my view, an invitation to this Court to engage in judicial legislation and to interpret the provisions of the Constitution in a manner that will undermine the very foundation of the nature of the federalism upon which the provisions of the Constitution were constructed. |

senatordave1: “It is and should be, a matter strictly between the states and the democratically elected members of the Local Government Councils. “The Local Government Areas superintended over by the Local Government Councils are component parts of the States. |

senatordave1: Section 162(5) and (6) of the 1999 Constitution stipulates the mode of payment of the funds due to the Local Government Areas of States from the Federation Account. “These provisions are explicit and self explanatory. They do not admit, accommodate or concede the direct payment of the funds due to the Local Government Council from the Federation Account to the Local Government Councils. |

EcoNews: The Constitution did not grant the Federal Government of Nigeria any oversight functions over how the democratically elected members of the Local Government Councils spend the funds allocated to them.” |

blacknp: So President Tinubu, his cabinet and party lied? Some of you lack the capacity beyond moronic support to interrogate issues. You really don't know the state of the economy yet you are throwing up figures of funds that were forcefully taken from Nigerians vie increased tax etc. Keep your dubious, faulty and empty scholarship far from my likes. I no send you and won't. |

blacknp: You want to spin the thread into mundane discourse and I refuse to go along with you. President Tinubu, up your game. Don't submit to the likes of Bayo. His antics is responsible for Tanko's statement. The Presidency should debunk the narrative of mayhem before they by default trigger what will consume us all. |

thesicilian: Obi dare not call for mayhem. He won't, it's not in his character. if he tries it his OBIDIENT supporters will be the first to counter him. Protest is an integral element of democracy, and in our present situation, protest won't come off well. So the President knows what to do. Appeal directly to NIGERIANS or better still guide the protest but allowing the likes of Bayo to continue to spin narratives along politics and tribe is a danger that could consume us all. Mayhem is anarchy and has no productive end but destruction and death. |
Politics / Re: Protest Allegation: Presidency Plotting To Arrest Peter Obi - Tanko by slivertongue: 6:30pm On Jul 20 |
blacknp: Another whack narrative. NIGERIANS are living in the most difficult of times which tinubu has acknowledged so I don't understand why some of you his supporters ain't on the same page with him. |
Politics / Re: Protest Allegation: Presidency Plotting To Arrest Peter Obi - Tanko by slivertongue: 6:27pm On Jul 20 |
thesicilian: Tell that to Bayo who wants to drag the presidency into unnecessary controversy. Kanu is an anarchists. Obi is the issue here and he is a peace loving citizen |
Politics / Re: Protest Allegation: Presidency Plotting To Arrest Peter Obi - Tanko by slivertongue: 6:24pm On Jul 20 |
jaksmillioniar: Nawa oo hunger has no get tribe. The attempt to scapegoat a given people will only encourage those who ain't them who are planning a protest to go ahead. The South spoke out against Buhari so if the North should do same against tinubu it's democracy. |
