Folarin ‘Falz’ Falana, Nigerian artiste/actor, has revealed that he once harboured fears of dwelling in his father’s shadow. The 26-year-old Jenifa’s Diary actor, who is the son of Femi Falana, Nigerian activist and lawyer, said this while speaking to contestants in the ongoing MTN Project Fame competition. Falz said: “The fear I had about coming into the limelight was that I would always be in my father’s shadow because he was out there already as a renowned activist and lawyer. “Being an upcoming artist, headlines, newspapers, magazine and online publications tagged me as Femi Falana’s son and I would say “Hello, is that my stage name?” “My fear was that how long is this going to last? How long will people continue to refer to me as his son. But after so much effort and hard work, I arrived at a place where they now refer to my dad as Falz’s dad.” The lawyer-turned-artiste also revealed that he accidentally discovered that his faux Yoruba accent could be popular among fans. Falling in love is easy and getting into a relationship is great but the real exercise is how best you make the relationship work out. Both parties must understand that when dealing with people, they are not dealing with creatures of logic, but creatures of emotion, hence quality time, energy and devotion must be invested into the relationship. A good relationship tends to get worse when either party starts to do things the other can’t tolerate. The understanding principle or will of the other party would be needed when such situation arises, and when it is lacking, there is every likelihood that the relationship could get ruined. Men and women are totally different when it comes to communication and ladies are fond of taking the drama queen role that might not go down well with their partner. Ladies could ignorantly do things they believe are normal dating behaviour but they may inadvertently turn off their men, which could finally push him away. These are some of the ways you may be pushing your partner away and not realise. Nagging Carl Jung once said everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves. Take it easy on yourself and equally with your partner, easy does it in life. Avoid nagging over anything and everything, allow peace, happiness and respect to reign. There are many ways to address issues and nagging is definitely not one of them. Being too clingy Some ladies can be so pathetically possessive to the extent that the man starts to get irritated. Yes, we know, he is your guy and we know you are excited about him, but do you really have to get emotional over everything? Don’t let your guy think you are needy or clingy. He is yours and you are in the best position to make him respect you for who you are but being so possessive is a ‘no-no’. Being too demanding Suffocating your guy emotionally and financially is one red flag you should avoid. Lack of trust and low self-esteem are some of the factors that contribute to ladies being too demanding. Guys love confident ladies, so if you guy senses that you aren’t that confident lady he always envisaged, he backs off. Don’t smother him, let him breathe; you just make sure you build your self-esteem and be loved in return. Trying to change him There is nothing a guy hates more in this world that being compared to another being. Once a lady starts pointing out her man’s faults in a derogatory way, she is pushing him away unknowingly. The best road to a man’s heart is to talk to him about those things he treasures most, appreciate what he loves and does. You could always bring out the best in him but trying to change him is not the best way to go about that. FULL ARTICLE at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/nagging-clingy-7-ways-women-push-men-away/ |
Crop tops are a great way to show just the right amount of skin. Just enough to flatter but not too much that you come off as slutty. There are dozens of ways to execute the crop top and here are a handful. HIGH WAISTED PANTS Since the top is already cropped, you may not want your whole stomach out there. Opt for a pair of high-waisted pants so it leaves just a strip of skin exposed. Minimalism is also sexy. BABY STEPS You may want to wear a crop top and not come off as sexy. The best option is to get crop top in a thick sweater-like fabric. It dumbs down the hint of sexiness. FULL ARTICLE at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/trend-alert-crop-top-women-fashion/

From a mile away, the All Progressives Congress (APC) envisaged the current recession gripping the jugular of Nigeria’s economy, yet here we are. Over half a decade ago, the party recognised the faulty structure of Nigeria’s economy, says Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture. The minister on Friday epitomised the honesty of the present government and assured Nigerians that they would never be kept in the dark no matter the situation. He further noted that the recent report of the National Bureau of Statistic (NBS) is not all doom and gloom. “What I can assure you is that we are on top of the situation and we are confident that the second half of the year will be better than the previous. Some of the things that impacted on this first two quarters were the acute fall in the price of crude oil. “One thing we cannot take away from this government is that it is open, honest and will not keep Nigerians in the dark. About a month ago, the Minister of Finance actually told all of us that we are already technically in recession. “Recession is not an event, it is a process. We knew more than five years ago that the country is heading towards recession because the structure of our economy is faulty. Faulty in the sense that for many years we have relied in one product, crude oil. “Because of the crash in the cost of crude oil, we lost about 60 per cent of our earnings. Crude oil that used to sell for about 100 dollars per barrel, today we are hovering between 40 and 45 dollars per barrel. Chris Brown, American singer, was on Tuesday evening arrested in his home in Tarzana, California. The singer, who has a history of legal battles, was alleged to have pointed a gun at Baylee Curran, Miss California Regional 2016. Curran claims she was admiring diamonds in Brown’s home when he accosted her with a gun and ordered her to “get out”. According to Curran, “Chris came in, pulled out his gun and said, ‘I’m getting so sick of you people,’ pointed the gun at me, (and told me) to get the f**k out of the house.” Although Curran failed to mention what exactly she was doing in Brown’s home except that she was there to discuss future projects, it was clearly not with the singer she was having those discussions. Don Jazzy, who’s regarded as one of the best music producers in Nigeria, has expressed doubts in the quality of his vocal ability. In a recent interview conducted by Notjustok TV in Texas, US, the producer whose real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, said his voice cannot be tolerated by everybody. The Mavin Records boss also denied announcing his retirement from music, saying he’s not an artiste and as such, he’d rather spend his time creating beats for other artistes. “I didn’t say I was retiring from music, I said I was taking a break, my artiste’ side would be put on pause and when I am tired of the break, I will come outside. “I am not an artiste, everyone knows I am shy of camera and the time I should take to make beat, I would now use for video shoot and since I wouldn’t be going with the artiste to perform the song, so it doesn’t really make sense and I decided to take a break. Acknowledging his shortcomings, Don Jazzy noted that he doesn’t have the best of voices and therefore would not delude himself into believing he’s a fantastic singer. “For now, I am not thinking of producing a single, we shouldn’t say never, but for now, I do not see it happening. I don’t think that if I put out a music that is just me from the beginning to the end, people would listen to it. My voice is nice but you need to listen to small doses of it. If you know me very well, I do not like to lie to myself, it is not everybody that can tolerate my voice. “I don’t release music because I am shy and I don’t think my voice is that great, I don’t think I am supposed to be an artiste. I am comfortable with my beats.” FULL STORY at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/don-jazzy-voice-music-producer/ |
Shola Abdulazeez Agboola, a Canada-based Nigerian man, has been invited to help restructure and revitalise the country’s Conservative party ahead of the 2019 federal elections. Like Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Conservative party was Canada’s largest political party until October 2015, when it lost majority of its House of Common seats to the Liberal party. In an attempt to rebuild, the party reached out to Agboola, a politician and member on the board of the CP, to help increase the party’s support base. PLEDGE OF SUPPORT To this effect, a letter was sent to Agboola by Scott Lamb, the newly elected president of CP, who hopes to include the Nigerian immigrant in the restructuring efforts of the CP. Lamb noted in the letter that Agboola would be valuable in the party’s bid to return to power in four years. He also extolled Agboola’s deep sense of dedication, commitment and many contributions to the party. Lamb said: “This summer, I plan to travel across Canada to meet in person with top Conservative Party activists and organisers. “But my most immediate goal today is to reach out and team up directly with you and our other important Conservative supporters in Manitoba.” “I need to know if I count on you to be my partner as we work to expand and strengthen the Conservative Party base in Manitoba in 2016 – and create an unstoppable force that will elect a new Conservative Government in 2019. “Let me tell you why I would be so grateful if you will tell me YES today by returning to me the special Pledge of Support I have enclosed in your name, Mr. Agboola.” PROUD NIGERIAN IMMIGRANT Reacting to Lamb’s letter, Osun state born Agboola was enthusiastic, “happy and honoured” to lend a hand of support to the Conservative party. He said: “It is quite a big deal for me to be recognized for what I have contributed to the system”. Full story at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/shola-agboola-nigerian-canada-cp/ |
Patience Ozokwor, veteran Nollywood actress turned pastor, has said the devil is trying to hinder her from doing the work God has instructed her to do. “The devil is trying to stop me from doing what God wants me to do but I am not ready to stop, he should see that and leave me alone”, the actress said in a recent chat with journalists in Kumasi, Ghana. Ozokwor also revealed that she initially found it funny when God told her to take a break from her career and spread the gospel. “I am here to win souls for Jesus. I am here to do the work of my father. Recently, he called me and said I need to take time out from what I was doing and do his work. It was a like a joke but when God calls you, you must answer. “I’m about the business of my father”, Ozokwor added. The actress noted that God called her specifically to relate with others through her personal experiences. Full story at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/patience-ozokwor-devil-god-pastor/ |

In 2015, five years after he signed his first recording contract, Shadrach Adeboye Folarin was named among NotJustOk’s “15 artistes to watch”. A year later, the singer/songwriter who’s popularly known as Shaydee says he’s still “learning and growing”. While a section of his fan base believe he’s grossly underrated, another group opine that the singer is indeed still growing into himself as an ariste and on the way to discovering his sound. Having explored several genres of music, Shaydee appears convinced that some semblance of progress has been made thus far in his career. “I feel my fans understand me more with every record I drop and that’s progress to me. I love to work with different genres because that’s what music is about. If you can do it, why not”, he said. UNDERRATED STAR In an attempt to justify his resolve to keep making meaningful music, Shaydee cited Asa and Timi Dakolo as examples of artistes who have stuck to their genres and attained success. “First of all, R&B or any genre of music can be of massive commercial value if promoted right. People like Asa, Timi Dakolo, e.t.c have proven that with time. “I just would never make songs that don’t make sense. Even if it’s a dance track, there is a story to it, so don’t misquote or misunderstand me.” When asked if he feels underrated, Shaydee noted that he’s willing to keep working hard and remain consistent until it’s his time to enjoy a fair share of the limelight. “In life you don’t always get what you want or deserve everytime but one just has to keep working hard and be consistent. Time has the answers to everything in life”, he added. Full story on https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/shaydee-eme-commercial-music/ |
Joachim Iroko, the trader arrested for naming his dog Buhari, says the most painful part of his ordeal was the murder of the animal while he was in detention. Iroko was arraigned on Monday before a Sango Ota magistrate’s court, Ogun state, on a two-count charge bordering on breach of the peace. Although he was immediately granted bail, Iroko wasn’t able to fulfill the bail conditions until Thursday. Shortly after his release, the trader told Vanguard that going to prison was a good experience for him. Iroko revealed that he has also named his dogs after Nelson Mandela, late South African leader and Barack Obama, US president. “I am so happy. It is a joy to me. I have missed my family; that was most painful. Prison is a place to experienced in one’s life. It is like a rehabilitation home: you learn many things there and there are many people you may not have the opportunity to talk to. “But in prison, you will sit down with them and discuss. There are many things you take for granted, but when you go to prison you know there is law. “The only thing I am regretting about my coming to prison is the intimidation from the Hausa community. Going to prison is a golden moment for me. As a matter of fact, they misunderstood me. I have three dogs: one bears Obama, one bears Joe, an abbreviation of my name. The third is named Buhari. “I named these dogs after my role models. My late dog was named after Nelson Mandela. I don’t just give any name to my dogs. I give reputable names to my dogs. It is love I have for Buhari; he is my role model. Full story at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/joachim-iroko-buhari-dog-owner/ |
Gone are the days when pot bellies used to be a sign of good living; nowadays they’re more of a license to life-threatening cancerous diseases. Overweight persons are now at the risk of having 13 different types of cancer, researchers have warned. During the course of a study published in the The New England Journal of Medicine, experts examined more than 1,000 studies of excess weight and cancer risk. The group of experts – under the International Agency for Cancer on Research (IARC) – had in 2002 listed five forms of cancers that could be gotten through excess weight. They are; cancers of the colon, oesophagus, kidney, uterus and breast in postmenopausal women. In present day, a new research has stumbled upon “sufficient evidence” to ascertain that eight further cancers are linked to excess body fat. CANCERS CAUSED BY EXCESS FAT Stomach Liver Gall bladder Pancreas Ovary Meningioma (A type of brain tumour) Thyroid cancer Blood cancer (Multiple myeloma) The experts, numbering 21, also discovered that a person’s higher body mass index (BMI) portends a high risk of cancer. “This comprehensive evaluation reinforces the benefits of maintaining a healthy body weight in order to reduce the risk of several different types of cancer,” Beatrice Lauby-Secretan, a doctor and lead author of the research said. WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT CANCER Cancer involves abnormal growth in the human body cell, which could lead to death if not discovered and treated early. This abnormality has the potential of spreading through the body and crippling the funcionality of the human system. There are about 195 types of the disease. You met her on the flight to Abuja and you love her so much because she has all that you want in a woman. Hence, you want to marry her. Sorry to rain on your parade but many men before you have had a similar experience, especially during early adulthood, and they are now wiser. You insist she’s your woman? Check, check, check! Well, not so fast! Run your feelings through this simple test. Do you want to be with this person to have sex at the earliest opportunity? Apart from her physical appearance and body parts, what else do you know about her? In this world of body enhancement, or artificial this, artificial that, do you even know what lies behind those clothes? The reality is that the intense feeling triggered by the lady is because your sex hormones are raging, fuelling you with idealisation and projection. You are seeing what you hope the lady will be or need her to be, rather than seeing the real person. So, please wait for the euphoria or intense feeling to cool down, then you’d know what exactly you are feeling. If you are a woman who is smitten by love at first sight, your case may even be worse. Check, check, check again because women are not wired to fall in instant love. They are more careful in building relationships, and their love is a combination of several factors deeper than sex or the love for money. Falling in Lust Most often when people, especially men, say they have fallen in love, the reality of the situation is that they have fallen in lust. An example of this situation can be found in a course on Intense Emotions and Strong Feelings. According to experts like Mary C. Lamia, lust may be experienced as intense desire or unbridled sexual longing. No matter the intensity of the feeling, lust cannot even be described as a natural human emotion. People who are in the throes of lust may lose their sensibilities since lust seems unable to recognise the reality of a situation, rather it motivates one to neglect it. Judith Orloff, a psychiatrist, explains that in the state of lust, the “brain is much like a brain on drugs. MRI scans illustrate that the same area lights up when an addict gets a fix of cocaine as when a person is experiencing the intense lust of physical attraction.” Pure lust is based solely on physical attraction and fantasy and it often dissipates when the “real person” surfaces. It’s the stage of wearing illusory glasses such that he or she “can do no wrong.” Full story at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/lust-love-relationship-feeling/ |

Uber aims to catch up with Google in the production of self-driving cars. The taxi-service company is on the verge of replacing over one million drivers with computers – which is quite unfortunate for those who make a living from being Uber drivers, thousands of young, middle aged Nigerian men inclusive. Uber is said to have been working on self-driving cars since 2015. In an interview with Bloomberg, Travis Kalanick, CEO of Uber revealed that the company is preparing to add self-driving cars to its fleet of active drivers in Pittsburgh as early as this month. “The company will deploy around 100 modified Volvo XC90s outfitted with self-driving equipment. Each vehicle will be staffed by one engineer, who can take the wheel as/when needed, and a co-pilot to observe and take notes. “There will also be a “liquid-cooled” computer sitting in the trunk recording trip and map data.” Customers will make requests from their phones through Uber’s app and will be paired with a driverless car, as is presently being done. https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/uber-self-driving-nigeria-pittsburgh/ |
