Blackberry has left the business of making handsets 14 years after releasing its first product. A statement released by the company confirmed the development. Blackberry’s manufacture of hardware, henceforth, will be outsourced to other companies. The decision stemmed from the lower than expected second quarter earnings of $352 million, which also fell short of Wall Street forecasts. John Chen, Blackberry CEO said the company’s new direction is software development, including apps and security rather than subcontracting to partners. “We are focusing on software development, including security and applications. The company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners. This allows us to reduce capital requirements and enhance return on invested capital”, Chen said. “We are reaching an inflection point with our strategy, our financial foundation is strong, and our pivot to software is taking hold”, he added. Blackberry has in recent years recorded poor sales as costumers have opted for Android and iPhone devices. https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/blackberry-end-smartphones-stops/ |

In this internet age, it’s very hard to avoid a computer infection. Even if you have a working anti-virus programme, those little buggers always find a way to slip in when no one is watching. For better understanding, let’s start with the differences between “viruses” and “malware”. Viruses are a specific type of malware that is designed to replicate and spread, while malware is a broad term used to describe all sorts of unwanted or malicious code. Malware can include viruses, spyware, adware, nagware, trojans, worms, and more. Here are 7 ways to tell if your computer is infected and needs attention. Slow speed Is your computer all of a sudden acting like the tortoise and not the hare? You’re pretty sure it was faster when you first got it right? Don’t just ignore that because malware has been known to slow down computers; taking longer to boot or programs take forever to open. Although a slow system may be as a result of low RAM memory and or low hard disk space, it’s best to check it out. Pop-ups Have you ever been trying to get work done on the internet and those annoying pop-up windows start appearing randomly out of nowhere? It’s not random, it’s a virus. A random virus maybe. These pop-ups have a tendency to carry in more viruses as they come. System crashes Regular system crashes are a sign of bad health. Just imagine fainting every hour… won’t you go see a doctor? Every time your computer crashes and a blue screen appears with a lot of jargon you don’t understand you better get that checked. New browser homepage, new toolbars, and unwanted websites Those websites you have no recollection of opening. And who changed your home page? There’s only so much a computer can do without the user inputting a command. Malware does a lot without your consent. Disabled security Some viruses are designed to come in and cripple your defence. If your firewall is down, your anti-virus not functioning, then you have a problem. FULL ARTICLE at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/7-ways-tell-computer-malware-infected/ |
It takes a great deal of maturity, patience and understanding to make a long distance relationship thrive and last. Once these attributes are not mutually inherent in both parties to a certain degree, a long distance relationship may fail to last. One-too-many long distance relationships have buckled under the pressure of ‘out of sight is out of mind’ and several are presently flailing in the valley of distrust. Here are 7 reasons long distance relationships are difficult to manage. Infrequent personal time Yes, you make long audio/video calls, and may also chat endlessly on social media but no amount of that can replace the wonderful feeling you get when the conversation is live and your partner is right there beside you. There is no better experience in a relationship than spending quality time together. Miscommunication Partners tend to misunderstand each other because of expressionless statements. She says something to you on phone but you are not with her to read the expression she wears when she makes the statement. Consequently, both parties could suffer miscommunication and this could ignite a fire that wouldn’t be easy putting out. When phone calls becomes a big deal When you start developing a feeling that you have an obligation to execute, you start to consider it a chore or lot of work to connect with your partner, and calling gradually becomes a task. When one party is investing more than the other It might not look disturbing at first but if it persists, things migh deteriorate. It could be a miserable feeling when you give everything to a relationship and your partner doesn’t even appreciate your efforts. Rather, what you hear is ‘I think you call too much’. When one party does the most visiting, sends the most text messages and calls way more than the other, most often than not, the relationship is headed for the rocks. Engaging in serious conversations You get to know if your relationship is doomed to fail when you don’t have convivial atmosphere each time you are around each other. When you only get to talk about serious issues and there is no such thing as laid back bants, it could mean that the distance is contributing adversely to your communication. When you feel something is not worth talking about The moment you start holding back issues you feel are not worth sharing with your partner, then you should know you are allowing distance determine your commitment. By pushing off such issues, you unconsciously start keeping secrets from your partner and that could damage the trust in the relationship. A 200-level student of the University of Lagos has launched a book delivery service, named Streem. Tejumade Adeyinka, student of the department of economics, explained that she was inspired to set up the service when she saw the need to resolve the challenges encountered by parents in getting their children textbooks. According to Adeyinka, the service was launched to help meet the needs of busy parents and professionals who prefer home deliveries of books. Adeyinka was further motivated by the stress her mother went through to get her books while she was in secondary school. “When I was in secondary school, I was usually given a list of books to be used at the beginning of a new session and my mom would pass through a lot to purchase these books from several bookstores”, she explained. Looking back on those days and recognising the fact that there is hardly ‘a stay-at-home mom or dad’ anymore, Adeyinka saw the need to present an easy book purchase means for parents and their children. Explaining how the service works, Adeyinka said “customers are expected to send a message to streemng@gmail.com with a list of books they would like to buy. After, we would send an invoice based on the price list that we currently have. FULL STORY at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/unilag-student-launches-book-delivery-service/ |
Consumption of Abacha (African Salad) and use of contaminated domestic wells have led to the death of 6 people in Isolo area, says the Lagos state government. Abacha Ncha is one of the most popular staple foods in eastern Nigeria. It is made with dried shredded cassava and fermented oil bean seeds. Jide Idris, commissioner for health, on Thursday said a report of the analysis revealed the presence of vibro cholerae, Salmonella species and E. Coli in abacha and one of the two well water samples. Out of the 45 cholera cases recorded in the LCDA, 36 patients have been successfully managed in various hospitals across the state while four people are currently responding to treatment. According to Idris, symptoms of the disease includes nausea, profuse diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, leg cramps, and in severe cases leads to dehydration, coma or death. “Some domestic wells within the communities are also suspected. Sample of Abacha salad and well water have been collected and sent to the Lagos State Drug Quality Control Laboratory for analysis. Samples were collected from 15 cases and taken to the central public health laboratory, Yaba. “There were no growths, however continuous culture yielded Vibro cholerae from 7 out of 15 samples. The Vibro cholera was late confirmed to be Ogawa strain. “The report of the analysis revealed the presence of vibro cholerae, Salmonella species and E. Coli in abacha and one of the two well water samples. “All the three cases are still on admission and in stable conditions. 17 of the cases were managed at private health facilities in Isolo. If the Ojuelegba axis of Lagos is your daily route, you may have at one point or the other, come across Ebere Azubuike, the resident female Okada rider. Although Ebere got into the business of commercial motorcycling by accident, she’s convinced that it’s her fate to be in the male-dominated terrain. “I believe my destiny is in Okada because it helps me feed my family and live well with it”, Ebere said, just as her male colleagues giggled and chuckled endlessly, making no attempt to shield their fascination at the attention she was getting from a reporter and photo-journalist. The full moon was out, hence the night was further illuminated; which only increased the degree of attention Ebere received. Gawkers and bystanders had started to gather. “I am determined that I would do well with this Okada and so far, it’s been successful”, the tomboyish looking woman, possibly due to finding herself in a career deemed for men, added subtly. She gazed away momentarily to examine her court of jesters and adulants, and after seemingly satisfied, she turned around and said, “I bought my bike when bike was 85,000 about three years ago.” Having seen her bar and restaurant business come crumbling down, Ebere believes life has put her exactly where she’s meant to be. “Business is not for everybody. Our destiny is different. I had joined business and didn’t make it. I sold in restaurants and beer parlour for about 4 years but at the end of the day, nothing to show”, she added. President Muhammadu Buhari has advised Nigerian filmakers against promoting violence and glamourising “sexual vulgarity” in their movies. The president urged movie practitioners to endeavour to always project the country in a positive light. Buhari sent the message to the movie industry in a foreword written in a brochure on the film industry. The brochure was titled, “Nigerian Film Industry at a Glance” and it was published by the Africa Film Academy. Buhari was quoted to have said: “The Nigerian film industry that is now called Nollywood, in the fashion of the American, Hollywood and Indian, Bollywood started as the effort of a group of enterprising young men and women who traded on their talents and sheer determination without anyone paying attention. “It has now metamorphosed into a big industry employing thousands of people, contributing to the national Gross Domestic Product and empowering a new generation of creative entrepreneurs.” “Our government will continue to support the creative sectors of its economy so as to encourage our teeming youths while we enjoin our filmmakers to continue to project the image of Nigeria and the continent of Africa in a positive way through their story lines. Filmmakers should not make films for art sake. Films should be functional and socially relevant.” FULL ARTICLE at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/buhari-nollywood/ |
Nigerians were embarassed to learn on Friday that the speech delivered by President Muhammadu Buhari at the ‘Change Begins with Me’ campaign was partially plagiarised. After careful perusal, it became evident that it shared some similarities with the 2008 election victory speech delivered by Barack Obama, president of the United States. The discovery has elicited series of reactions and the president has ordered that disciplinary action be taken against those responsible for the insertion. Twitter, a social media platform, has been agog with various remarks from Nigerians. READ ARTICLE at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/thestolenspeech-twitter-reactions-buharis-plagiarized-speech/ |
Alcoholic drinks, smoking, consumption of fast food among other activities contribute to the increased rate of type 2 diabetes in the country, says Feyi Adegoke, president of Endocrine and Metabolism Society of Nigeria. Adegoke was quoted to have said this during the 38th scientific conference and annual general meeting of the society in Calabar, Cross River. Residents in the urban areas of the country, she said, are at higher risk of diabetes than those in the rural areas. “The metropolitan cities have the highest rate of diabetes and that is because people are tending more towards Western lifestyle of consuming more alcoholic drinks, smoking, consumption of fast foods and others. These are some of the things that drive the epidemic we are seeing”, said Adegoke. She noted that no fewer than five million Nigerians are currently suffering from type 2 diabetes. The doctor said one in every 10 adults in Nigeria has ‘type 2’ diabetes and more people are at the risk of suffering from it in years to come. “Currently in Nigeria, no fewer than five million people are suffering from diabetes type 2. This number will increase to about 10 million in the next 10 years.” 15 million people, she said, are suffering from diabetes in Africa and the number would spike to 30 million in 2025. She also advised that diabetes could be prevented through reduction of sugar intakes like canned drinks, putting a stop to tobacco smoking and incorporating healthy meals into their diets. U.S. federal consumer safety regulators and Samsung have recalled 1 million Galaxy Note 7 smartphones. The mass recall comes in the wake of several reported explosions of batteries of the Note 7 while being charged. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday told customers to “immediately stop using and power down” the device. Samsung has received about 92 reports of batteries overheating in the U.S. alone, according to the CPSC. Consequently, Samsung on September 2 announced that it would stop selling Galaxy Note 7s and also urged customers to turn off the phone and contact their carrier to get a free replacement. “With battery cell defects in some of our Note 7 phones, we did not meet the standard of excellence that you expect and deserve. For that, we apologize, especially to those of you who were personally affected by this”, said Tim Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America. “To those of you who love the Note — the most loyal customers in our Samsung family — we appreciate your passion and your patience. We will work every day to earn back your trust through a series of unprecedented actions”, he added. Meanwhile, airline passengers were advised to turn off the phones when flying due to the safety risk. In South Korea, Samsung has promised to launch a new “battery-problem-free” Note 7 phones on Monday. Thus far, the company has sold 2.5 million of the devices worldwide since launching them in August 2015. https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/samsung-galaxy-note-7-1-million/ |
Last weekend was greatly exciting not just because it was an extended one with a 2-day public holiday; but I also had the pleasure to attend a dinner event hosted by Sam Oye in Abuja, Nigeria. It was a networking experience for single parents, widows, widowers, and matured singles above 35 years old. In the words of the host, the attendees all came looking beautiful as they interacted, laughed, danced, got informed and left inspired. The thrust of the conversation was on what folks should look out for before walking down the aisle. I was particularly inspired by the various points raised and it is my pleasure to present the ten checks that are important for full appraisal before considering marriage. Purpose Connection Check: In checking for purpose connection, you should ensure that your assignments are aligned in every way. This is called finding purpose. Finding common grounds in your raison d’etre as regards life and purpose will certainly become the reason for staying in a relationship long after the sparks have waned. Family Background Check: Knowledge of the predisposition of the family background of a potential partner is salient. You should do well to not ignore the family background pattern. Personality Check: You need to understand the personality type of the individual and be sure to align yourself adequately. The four main personality types viz; Sanguine, Phlegmatic, Melancholic and Choleric have been studied extensively and devoting your time to decipher the compatibility of yours and a potential partner is a step in the right direction. Integrity Check: If the integrity of the person you want to marry is questionable, don’t go further. One of the basic ways to check for integrity is by determining how the individual respects your time. Whoever does not value your time does not value your life. Financial integrity and emotional integrity are also other pointers to the presence or absence of integrity in the life of an individual. Responsibility Check: This is pertinent in ascertaining the ability of an individual to walk the path of responsibility. Anyone who is not ready to take responsibility for thoughts and actions is not worthy of your time and commitment. Parent Consent Check: Don’t just ignore the suggestions of your parent or to be parent-in-law. It is important to win their consent. What they think may not be useful but it is important. Health Check: You don’t need to wait for too long and still end up getting it wrong. Check for genotype, blood type and Rhesus factor, libido test (seminal fluid analysis), terminal disease checks etc. Love Language Check: Don’t just treat your partner based on your own love language. Find his/her love language and speak it. The five major love languages are acts of service, quality time, physical touch, words of affirmation, giving of gifts. It is important to know that you don’t generally show love to another in the way that you receive love. FULL ARTICLE at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/10-things-you-should-know-before-marriage/ |
Before the first sex reassignment surgery in 1930, the definitions of what it meant to be a man were clear as rain and anyone born outside those margins was seen as abnormal. So what changed? Society is fluid, what is perceived as the norm or what is seen as acceptable changes over time. Lawrence H. Summers, once president of Harvard, suggested that women had different brains from men. That did not end well for him. He was branded a sexist and his reputation hit the dirt. But when Bruce Jenner said the same thing he was praised for bravery and is now seen as an inspiration to some. “My brain is much more female than it is male.” – Bruce Jenner But you see, Bruce Jenner’s idea of a woman is very stereotypical. It involves showing cleavage, talking about hair and spending hours on makeup. Of course there are minor differences in the chemical compositions in the brain of a man and of a woman. There are three major factors that define gender roles – biology, religion, and society. Society aims to make biology and religion obsolete. Religion sticks with biology meaning that because a man is physically stronger (more often than not) he is the head and the woman is his subordinate. And biology, well biology is just sex and reproduction and as many sex change operations that are carried out, nothing can beat the original. “…they replied, what is your woman? Is she just a container for the child?” – Frank Ocean The second paragraph of the United States Declaration of Independence states that, “We hold all these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…” |
Parenting can be demanding, it requires a lot of hard work, perseverance and maturity. No one is an expert parent and everyone should be willing to improve on their parenting skills. Here are our two-cents on parenting. Punishment doesn’t guarantee discipline Know that discipline cannot be developed only through punishment; correct your kids with love, let them see reasons for the correction. It is essential they know that you want them to be competent and responsible. Be a role model Family is the smallest and perhaps the most important unit of the society, and as such, children inherit behaviour and certain attitudes they exhibit from their parents. Your kids are looking up to you; ensure you model appropriate, good and respectful behaviour. Respect parenting differences Arguing with your spouse when they are scolding the child(ren) is not too good. Criticising him/her will do more harm to your marriage and the kids’ sense of security, than good. Try putting up with him/her in the kids’ presence and make necessary adjustments when you are both alone. Give praise when they do good Learn to compliment your children when you notice they’ve done something commendable; it encourages them to do more. Take their health seriously Ensure you stay updated on your kids’ health issues and encourage them to maintain proper hygiene. It gives them a sense of responsibility and equally reminds them that their parents are there for them. FULL ARTICLE at https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/parenting-rules-everyone-know/ |

The release of “Hit N Run” by Sean Tizzle, Nigerian singer, has reconnected him with his core fans. Nobody is perfect… I mean nobody”, the singer said on his Twitter page. From his recent tweets, it appears his issues of the past are now water under the bridge especially as he promotes the new single. “I have received nothing but love from everyone on my new single #Hit&Run. God bless you all. As you know I am nothing without God and your un-ending support”, said the artiste whose real name is Morihanfen Oluwaseun Oluwabamidele. Someday, humans will be able to make babies without needing eggs, a research carried out by scientists at Nature Communications suggests. The landmark research saw the scientists create a healthy baby mouse by tricking an unfertilised egg into becoming a pseudo-embryo (which shares much in common with an ordinary cell). The research posits that it might be possible for ordinary body cells to produce healthy babies when they are fertilised. The scientists, from the University of Bath, opined that if the injection of sperm into mouse could produce healthy babies, then there is a strong likelihood that similar result could be generated in humans. “This is the first time that anyone has been able to show that anything other than an egg can combine with a sperm in this way to give rise to offspring”, Tony Perry, a doctor who’s one of the researchers, told BBC. He added that the research had shattered nearly 200 years of thinking while noting that in the distant future, “it might be possible that ordinary cells in the body can be combined with a sperm so that an embryo is formed”. A research put out earlier in the year revealed that China was able to make sperm from stem cells, which was used to fertilise an egg that developed into healthy mice. Perry explained that if both fields of research were combined, they may achieve a stituation where there might be no need for sperm and eggs altogether. Eid-El-Kabir celebration is around the corner but recession is already on the scene — hence the question around town is “how will Nigerian Muslims celebrate Sallah?” As per tradition, every Muslim home celebrates Sallah by stocking the pot of stew with any and every kind of Islam-permitted meat while their non-Islamic friends are already deciding on the Muslim friend(s) to visit on the day when animals become meat. But with the shape of the economy and scarcity of funds, many Muslim families may be unable to purchase rams. So as not to go bankrupt in an effort to celebrate Sallah, here are some other substitutes to buying a ram. Share a camel/cow As a result of the current average price of N175,000 per ram, many will be unable to afford the animal and according to Islamic laws, ram cannot be shared. But there’s a way out for those who can’t singlehandedly afford a ram. The same laws allow for the sharing of camels and cows by a maximum of 7 people. Hence, you can always decide to share a camel or cow with your neighbour, friend or family and save a lot in the process. Goat However, if you are not big on sharing or simply do not want to share with the world, your inability to afford a ram/cow/camel alone, why not go for a much cheaper animal. Another option is goat, an animal whose meat can be wholesome and nourishing, if properly cooked. By choosing to purchase a goat, you can still fill two pots with enough meat for the celebration and friendly neighbours can still get a piece or two. Chicken If the economy is particularly tough on you, don’t attempt to break the bank because rainy days are here to stay, literally and figuratively. The Holy Quran says: “Whoever can afford to offer Sacrifice but does not offer it, let him not come near our prayer place (Ibn Majah 3123)”. With the current recession in the country, if you are only able to afford a chicken (or two), it’s enough to celebrate with the family. Candidates of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Edo state, are upset over the government’s decision to relocate their examination center. The students were scheduled to write Mathematics 1 and 2 papers on Saturday but as a result of the clash with the Edo governorship election, the government intends to take them out of the state. Hence, the candidates protested at the government house, Benin, on Monday, Punch reports. The students complained that the proposed examination location would destabilise them from performing well in their exam. Iko Moses, spokesperson and leader of the protest, said: “The plan to relocate us out of Edo State, our state, to other states for the examination because of the September 10 election in Edo State is an ill wind which will affect our chance to perform well in the examination. “We have found this situation very disturbing, discouraging and we cannot take the risk. Environmental conduciveness has a great impact on students’ performance in examinations”. Moses explained they had prepared themselves psychologically and mentally for the initial environment in terms of “safety, comfort, and accessibility”. “You will agree with me that a threat to any of the mentioned indices is a threat to us and the outcome of the examination. We want to humbly say that as the election is important to the nation so is our exam important to us. It is even more important to us because without a good education, we cannot grow up to participate in the Nigerian democracy. The first gay church in Nigeria is conspicuously named House of Rainbow – most likely because the colours of the rainbow is same as that of the LGBTIQ movement. Homosexuality is a topic that sparks heavy controversy in Nigeria. Majority of the population is vociferously against it while acts of homosexuality will offer you a 14-year jail sentence in accordance to Nigerian law. The man behind the House of Rainbow movement is Rowland Olajide Macaulay, a reverend who sees himself as an activist. On Monday, House of Rainbow marked its 10-year anniversary in faraway London, away from the grasp of Nigeria’s anti-homosexuality law. Here are 15 things you should know about Macaulay’s movement, which is described as “Nigeria’s first gay church”. Although it was founded in Nigeria, there is no record of a physical church structure for House of Rainbow on Nigerian soil. It was founded in September 2006 by Macaulay, Nigeria’s first openly gay pastor. In Nigeria, Macaulay ran the church from his home in Jakande Estate, Isolo, Lagos and a “worship space” in Ojodu Berger, Lagos. 32 people were in attendance at the first meeting which took place at Ikeja Capital City Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. On December 31, 2006, House Of Rainbow hosted the largest number of LGBT people of faith gathering in Lagos for the New Year’s eve celebration. Over 200 people attended. The Nigerian house of assembly invited Macaulay in 2007 to speak on the same sex prohibition bill but he never got the chance to address the chamber. He fled the country after national newspaper publications emerged about his church in 2008. Following the release of the articles, Macaulay received numerous death threats. Macaulay once considered committing suicide because of his homophobic family members. Macaulay was married to a woman in 1991 and got a divorce in 1994. The House of Rainbow church is located in London, UK. There are currently 13 active groups with 17 volunteer local leaders, 11 cities and in 7 countries, Nigeria, Ghana, Malawi, Lesotho, Burundi, Zambia, and the United Kingdom. House of Rainbow has two groups dedicated to LGBTIQ Muslims in Nigeria and Ghana respectively. The religious organisation has performed over 10 same sex weddings or blessings in the past 10 years in Europe and Africa. House Of Rainbow has printed and distributed over 10,000 copies of pocket Ddevotional for LGBT Christians. House Of Rainbow now includes fellowships to LGBTIQ Christians and Muslims. https://lifestyle.thecable.ng/house-of-rainbow-nigeria-macaulay/ |
Some men like the lady in red. She arouses them. But why? Women dressed in red are more sexually attractive to men as the colour transmits “powerful” messages about how interested they might be, scientists have found. They call it the red dress effect. It is a phenomenon in which people wearing red clothing, are perceived to be more sexually attractive than they are when wearing other colours. Likely origin The origin of the phenomenon is not very clear, but it has been suggested it is evolutionary instinct, passed on from prehistoric times. The men observed that when primate female animals became fertile their blood vessels opened up, causing redness of the skin, especially near the face, chest and Instruments. This increase in redness affected male counterparts and drew attention towards the females. In humans In humans too, it would seem that the woman in red is a hot favourite among men. It has been observed that men are more attracted to women wearing red compared to other colours. But the reason may vary a little from the primate male animals. Men believe that the women in red are less likely to reject their advances. The studies found that the colour red carries subtle but powerful messages about how receptive a woman might be to romantic advances and so men find it more alluring. The findings might explain why women in red dresses have become such a provocative image in modern culture. Men who were shown photographs of women wearing a red shirt found them more attractive compared to when they saw the same women wearing green or white garments. The study in the United States and Austria, also found that the men felt the women would respond positively to their advances. Adam Pazda, who led the research along with colleagues at the University of Innsbruck, said the response may be hangover from humans’ evolutionary past, as animals such as female baboons display patches of bright red skin to indicate they are ready to mate. He said: “We find it fascinating that merely changing the colour of a woman’s shirt can have such a strong influence on how she is perceived by men. “It is possible that women actually wear red clothing more when they are interested in sexual encounters. We are currently investigating this possibility, and preliminary evidence suggests that this is indeed happening.” However, in a more recent study in New York, it was found that wearing red made women more attractive, but only to men who already fancied them a bit. Wearing a red dress isn’t like spraying Viagra from a crop-duster, in other words – but for women wanting to boost what God gave them, it’s perfect, the experts said. The lead author Steven Young wrote in the European Journal of Social Psychology, “Recent evidence suggests that coloration may serve a purpose in human mating, as female sexual excitement is associated with reddening of the cheeks, neck, and chest. “Women are more likely to wear red than other colors when they anticipate meeting attractive, but not unattractive, men.” Women likely to wear red when fertile Study finds women prefer red or pink clothes at their most fertile time of the month. For one thing, studies have not consistently found that women dress more sexily when they are more fertile. But according to a new study, apparently women do provide a clue about their fertility: women at high conception risk were more than 3 times more likely to wear a red or pink shirt than were women at low conception risk, and 77 per cent of women who wore red or pink were found to be at high, rather than low, risk.” And red works to attract men: “Individuals across cultures associate red with love and passion. Studies using a range of methods and populations have demonstrated that women’s use of red is linked to sex and romance and that men find women wearing or surrounded by red particularly attractive and sexually desirable. Nigeria’s economy will be in recession for quite some time, says Atunyota Alleluya Akporobomerere, a comedian popularly known as Ali Baba. In a post on his Instagram page on Monday, 51-year-old Ali Baba said the country was not futuristic in planning and executing projects. He blamed Nigeria’s over-reliance on crude oil for the situation the country finds itself and also went on to list areas and sectors that Nigeria could have developed, yet failed to. The comedian said: “The economy will remain like this for a loooooooooooooong while. Because the strings that pull us into dire straits are still pulling us even much stronger. How did we get here? We were making so much from oil and neglected all other sources of revenue. “We did not invest the revenue from oil in infrastructural development of the country. We were not futuristic in our planning either.” “Did we increase the number of hostels in our universities to accommodate the new numbers of students? Pay teachers well? “Did we build more roads to take care of the millions of cars and transportation needs? Did we improve the services of the police force? Did we use the money to build better hospitals? Did the new industries create more jobs? Did we improve our power supply? “Did we have stronger and modified laws that made sure that people who broke the laws were punished adequately to discourage others? Did we tidy up our pension scheme so that people are assured that they did not need to steal to assure themselves of better retirement? To court African-American voters, Donald Trump, Republican party presidential candidate on Saturday visited the Great Faith Ministries, a nondenominational church in Detroit. As the national polls consistently show him trailing Hillary Clinton in recent weeks, Trump needs all the help he can get — even if that means wooing an African-American audience for the first time as a presidential candidate. “I fully understand that the African American community has suffered from discrimination and that there are many wrongs that must still be made right and will be made right”, Trump said while addressing the congregation. At some point during the worship session of the church, Trump could be seen evidently out of place as he swayed to the tune being sung by the audience.
