President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the collapse of a church building in Akwa Ibom that resulted in the death of about 100 people.

The governor of Akwa Ibom state Emmanuel Udom on Friday, December 9, escaped death as a church building in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state collapsed.

President Buhari commiserates with Abia people over church building collapse

The whole building of the church, Reigners Bible Church, located along Uyo Village road, collapsed, witness told Premium Times.

The church was said to be filled to its capacity following the consecration of its pastor as a Bishop when the incident happened.

The church building collapse “Pastor Akan Week was being consecrated today so the programme was holding inside the Church when suddenly, the whole building collapsed,” a witness said.

In a statement issued by Garba Shehu who is the senior special assistant to President Buhari on media and publicity, he confirmed that Buhari spoke on phone with Governor Emmanuel and congratulated him and his family for their lucky escape.

The president also commiserated with the people of Akwa Ibom over the loss of lives caused by the building collapse. Buhari also urged those in the region to rally around those who lost their loves ones and prayed for quick recovery for those who sustained injuries.

The 39years old, Kerry Washington and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha left their two babies at home to attend the Ambassadors for Humanity Gala Benefiting USC Shoah Foundation in Hollywood, Los Angeles this Thursday.

The actress gave birth to their second child, a son, Caleb Kelechi Asomugha. This marks the Scandal star's first public appearance since giving birth to their son in October.

Prophet Rufus Phala of AK Spiritual Christian Church in Makgodu, Limpopo, South Africa made his church members drink Dettol, claiming the antiseptic liquid will heal their sickness. According to Daily Sun SA, Prophet Rufus told the congregation to drink the disinfectant, promising they will be healed of their sickness.


"I know Dettol is harmful, but God instructed me to use it.

I was the first one to drink it," he claimed, adding that he has been getting WhatsApp messages from people who say they have been healed. One Dr Mabowa Makhomisane, said Dettol is harmless when mixed with bath water or when cleaning a wound.

"But if it goes into your stomach and gets absorbed into your body, it decreases the amount of oxygen in your system," he said.

"This might cause to you collapse and die. If you vomit the liquid into your lungs, it causes aspiration pneumonia.

Your lungs will get swollen and you won’t be able to breathe." he added. Dr Makhomisane advised the people who drank the liquid to consult a doctor immediately.

Nigerian musicians don’t go to jail like their American counterpart but that doesn’t mean they don’t land in the hands of law enforcement agencies. We take a look at some of our favorite musicians that have landed in police custody in recent times.


ORITSEFEMI

Singer Oritsfemi spent the night at the police custody after stabbing a club bouncer with a glass cup in Lagos last weekend.

The singer has since apologized for his behavior and has been set free.


2SHOTZ

Rap veteran 2shotz spent a night at the police headquarters, Langbasa Division in Ajah last year after he was arrested for no reason. According to him, he tried explaining his identity to the police but one way or the other he was dragged in.

Few days later 2shotz was invited by the police and the issue was resolved amicably


WIZKID

Reports in Kenya in 2014 say Wizkid was invited by the police for questioning and quizzing for smoking illegal substance in their country.

Wizkid allegedly got into a heated argument with a hotel front officer after he was told not to smoke the banned substance in their hotel. The singer was later handed to the police and was released with singer Victoria Kimani the surety.


SINZU

Rapper Sinzu was arrested in 2013 for a credit card scam that was filmed by a CCTV in Atlanta. The mugshot of the rapper formerly known as Sauce Kid didn’t hit the internet until 2014.

Sinzu admited he spent time in jail in one of his songs. He has since become a freeman.


VECTOR

Rap titan Vector was put in the hands of the Nigeria police by his former label YSG for breaching contractual terms.

Vector surrendered the car and apartment provided for him by the label during the dispute. He revealed he was arrested twice over the matter. The second time he was in custody from 3pm to 10pm.


SPECIAL ED

Davido’s hypeman and singer Special ED born Edward Chukuma-Jiah was arrested for fraud in the U.S in 2011.

Special was reportedly arrested on 28th of August 2011 and was released 2days after 30th of August 2011 with $17,000 bond. Special was charged with Financial Credit Card Theft, First Degree Forgery and Identity Fraud.

Edward has since completed his community service and is a freeman.


SKALES

Skales was put into the hands of the police by his current label Baseline Music. Skales and his former manager Osagie were arrested for financial crime and mismanagement by the music company.

According to Baseline, Skales and his manager were making monies that weren’t documented. The rapper was eventually freed but his manager spent longer time with the NPF.


GODWON

Rapper Godwon real named Neyu Nyan was arrested after he burgled into the house belonging to another in the U.S The singer was taken into custody and was released on $20,000 bond.

Godwon stole items during the process and some of the items he stole were seen in his car. The singer had been fingered in 4 bburglary cases that happened in the same day.

A human trafficking victim who was ' raped 43,000 times' by the age of 16 - after being groomed at age 12 - has turned her life around to help others.



Karla Jacinto, from Mexico, estimates she was forced to sleep with at least 30 men a day over four years as a young teenager.

She says she was first targeted at the age of 12 by a trafficker who prized her away from her dysfunctional family with gifts and money.

Karla was eventually taken to Guadalajara, one of Mexico's biggest cities, and forced to work as a prostitute.

She was eventually rescued in 2008 as part of an anti-trafficking operation in Mexico City.




Now aged 24 - after years spent recovering from the deep emotional wounds and harrowing memories of sexual abuse - she has become a human rights activist.

Karla now travels the world giving help and advice to other victims of sexual slavery - even meeting Pope Francis at the Vatican to discuss the issue.

CNN reports that Karla is now in fact "not just surviving, she's thriving" as a human rights activist speaking out against modern-day slavery.




As she recounted her past and showed photos of her at age 12, Karla said: "They would beat me with sticks, they would beat me with cables, they would beat me with chains. "They forced me into prostitution at age 12."

"There were people who would laugh at me because I was crying. I had to close my eyes so I wouldn't see what they were doing to me."

MirrorUK adds that Karla claims that some of her attackers were "uniformed police officers" - as well as judges, priests and pastors. "I thought they were disgusting," she said. "They knew we were minors - we were not even developed.

Some alleged kidnappers in the Epe area of Lagos were caught just as they were trying to get away with their crime.

In a report sent to Naij.com, it was alleged that the criminals consisting of one female and two men were apprehended by residents and stripped naked.

Some of the people suggested setting the kidnappers on fire although it was not known if this threat was carried out as at the time of the report.
