Career / Re: I Want To Quit My N2k Job Per Day To Start Riding Keke by SmartVilletech: 6:16pm On Jul 04, 2022
LUAN1:
Hi everyone, I have been working for this chinese construction company for more than 2yrs now.

Initially I was employed as a quality control engineer to oversee concrete testing, deflection test, compaction test and many more, but after like three months of taking the role, I was been converted to a full time labourer in the company because they refused to employed more labourers and they don't pay attention to quality.

Since then I have been suffering like a mad man ( doing hard labor) in the company, working from 7am - 5:30 PM everyday earning 2k/day. I am planning of quitting the job to buy an old keke.

Please how is keke business? Will I be making upto 5k daily if I apply the same energy I used in working for chinese.? And buying an old keke, is it a good idea?
would it cause me to make friends with mechanics?

Please if you have done keke business share your experience.

Bro,

How much do you have for the proposed used keke and how much is the new one?
Family / Re: Thinking Of Renovating My Family Village House. by SmartVilletech: 3:20pm On Jun 05, 2022
Selfkontrol:
Good morning everyone. Last night I was on a thread about a guy contemplating to build his house first or complete his mother’s house. That topic is somehow related but completely different to mine so I want to share with people in the house for advice.

To cut the story short, I come from an extended poor family where even a good 3 square meal to some people is a big deal. I grew up in the village from childhood till I was in secondary school before my father died and I moved to live with my mother( my father had different wives that where not with him before he died.)
My mom gave me a good life. Better education
And all and now I’m 30, doing well in life. I mean very well.
My father has 5 brothers all still alive. They are all managing life and even their children not doing so well. Though I have tried to assist most of them the little way I can

Now, the family house in the village that my grand father build. Same house I grew up as a child is a complete mess. Its so bad that I can’t even drink water there currently. It’s to sad all my uncles could not renovate their fathers house. I don’t blame them though. They are not doing well. About two of my uncles still live in that house that the roof is almost falling and sometimes I feel ashamed because that’s where I grew up. I can’t even take anyone there because it would be too embarrassing for me. Due to this I haven’t been to the village for long

Few years ago, the most senior uncle did foundation at the back of the house and raised it up a bit but couldn’t complete it since then and even all the brothers can’t help. Now I feel I’m in a better place to atleast help complete it. I already made up my mind and was traveling this month end for it. Even though it would be a gradual process. ( just to lay few blocks to lintel then roof it.) until I read that thread of that young man and some comments made me think twice.
Pls experience elders in the house ur input is needed thank you.
I want to know if I’m making the right decision. If I need to involve all my uncles even though they are all not in unity.
It’s a bit confusing because my father is late. If he was a life I know it would be easier. I would just put him in charge of the project.

Now, my major reason of doing this is because I feel bad people are still living in that building that would soon collapse and also for the fact I grew up there and in my current position I can’t do anything about that house.

It’s a tall order.

My advise is that you buy a land not too far from your current family house.

Build it in such a way that it will accommodate everyone in the old apartment and more then hand it over to the family.

They can decide to sell the old one or renovate it on thier own.

Shalom!!!

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Much Is My Salary? Help!! by SmartVilletech: 1:19pm On Mar 18, 2022
Normally I don’t comment on issues like this on a platform like Nairaland.

However, for record purpose I will like to address this issue this for once.

A lot of people rush to Nairaland to complain about their bosses, salary or company without them telling us of the value that they are adding to their organizations .

Many of the people that cries foul here has no business value to their employer hence they are frustrated.

Thank you.

Business / Re: AMCON Takes Over IBEDC by SmartVilletech: 8:10pm On Jan 21, 2022
1nigeriamyfoot:

Less than 10% of electricity consumer in Ibadan has prepaid metre so it's not a matter of bypass

We I lives, sometimes there will be no power supply for a whole week despite that transformer is perfectly ok

If there's small issue with transformer, their staff will demand for minimum of 10k before leaving their office to check what's wrong with the transformer. If it's something that will cost 50k to fix, they will demand for 300k. Their customer care representative is a joke, the lady always defend their staff on phone if you dare complain about their services.

I use prepaid metre in my house but our transformer had issue for about 8months now. We contributed money to buy new one but IBEDC insist they buy for us at overinflated rate else where won't power the transformer. We now warned them never to distribute their estimated bill to us if they don't want to have their hand chopped off

We now rely on generating set & solar whereas we have over 500 houses on that damaged transformer

We are so sorry to hear that. However, you can reachout to us for all your power/energy need.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Is This Query Letter Necessary? Absenteeism From Saturday’s Exercise by SmartVilletech: 8:25pm On Jul 26, 2021
We all must pay attention to the fact that they had a meeting and op was at the meeting without raising any objections.

Another thing that the op would have done is to engage his line manager privately.

Stay in that company and learn all that you need to learn and move on to greater things.

Work experience is not the numbers of years that you have worked; it’s the meaningful things that you have Learnt over a period of time.[img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img][img][/img]

Help! Is This Query Letter Necessary? Absenteeism From Saturday’s Exercise Session
My Boss is at it again, this time he gave more than 16 staff queries for absenteeism from Saturday’s Exercise Session, which is not part of our employment agreement.

On Saturday, we are mandated to come to the office from 6: 00 am to 8: 00 am for one hour of exercise.
I don’t turn up for Saturday’s Exercise Session due to the security and transport fare challenge

Transport Fare
Saturday’s exercise session is taking a toll on me financially, I spend N600 daily to and from work, Monday to Friday. My take-home-pay is not up to Nigeria’s minimum wage
Adding Saturday to my transport budget would drain me financially
Security
I am mindful of the security situation in my area. On more than one occasion, people have been robbed/killed at an early hour in the morning, giving rise to fear and security consciousness
My question is, why are Nigerian Boss’ this Heartless? Was it perversity we longed to address this? What hope lies in secrecy if Boss’ continue to treat employees like a slave?
