A man has drowned during baptism at Groot Letaba River in Nwamarhanga village, Limpopo, South Africa.

The 27-year-old man reportedly slipped into the water and drowned soon after baptism on Saturday, March 18, 2023.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, identified the victim as Ronald Rikhotso.

"The police in Giyani had opened a case of inquest after a baptism took a tragic turn when a 27-year-old male congregant slipped into the water and drowned soon after baptism in Groot Letaba River in Nwamarhanga village on March 18, 2023,"

"According to the information, the church congregants, led by their priest, had been performing religious rituals. After the session, one of the congregants returned to the river to collect water. The 27-year-old man, identified as Ronald Rikhotso, reportedly slipped and drowned," he said.

Colonel Ledwaba said the police were alerted about the incident, and the divers from the SAPS Provincial Search and Rescue Team retrieved the body from the river.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, cautions community members to be careful and wary when using dams and rivers for any purpose, including religious activities," he said.

Politics / Petrol Scarcity Is Not A Deliberate Action To Impact Forthcoming Elections- NNPC by smile4kenn(m): 8:30pm On Feb 02, 2023
Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mele Kyari, has stated that petrol scarcity witnessed across the country is not a deliberate action to scuttle the forthcoming election.

On the NTA Good Morning Nigeria program on Thursday, February 2, Kyari disclosed that the petrol shortage began in 2022.

He said, "I do not think anybody sits down to orchestrate that there should be scarcity so that it will impact elections and so on. It doesn't happen that way if it is so. But it is not true because the reality is that these glitches started early in 2022.

It has nothing to do with this election period. Once you have a challenge of this nature, it is a cyclical thing. Once you have this challenge, they continue to come up, and then once you have arbitrage issues, you have this glitch.

This country has just three days of redundancy in petroleum products supply. Once you have a glitch that extends longer than three days, you need another three weeks to stabilize it. So irrespective of who does what, whatever causes the three-day glitch, it is a nightmare waiting to happen.

Once we see this glitch, we do everything possible to avoid the glitches from happening. No one will sit down and say let us create this so that there will be an impact on the elections.

There is no benefit to it. No one would do this, and I can tell you clearly that there is no one issue. Being the direct report to Mr. president, no one problem bothers him like this. There is no briefing that I do to the president that he does not mention this."

Kyari added that while linking petrol scarcity to the forthcoming election is unfair, the NNPC is doing everything possible to control the situation.

Politics / No Sit-at-home For February Election - IPOB Declares by smile4kenn(m): 7:37pm On Feb 02, 2023
In a statement released on Thursday, February 2, the separatist group also warned the Pan Nigeria President of Igbo Extraction Coalition (PANPIEC) to desist from linking IPOB with the enforcement of sit-at-home orders to blackmail IPOB and ESN.

The statement read;

"IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has never forcefully obstructed the election process in Nigeria. Instead, we once called Biafrans to boycott elections, which was later called off.

We have maintained that we are not interested in the Nigeria shambolic political selection process called Nigeria elections scheduled for February 2023. Our interest and focus is the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the date for the Biafra referendum for Biafrans to determine their political future in or outside Nigeria.

We knew that this mushroom group called PANPIEC is among those sponsoring this fake group claiming that they are IPOB issuing and enforcing reckless sit at homes in the East.

If they are not their sponsors, why do they keep linking the paid Agents of confusion with us even as IPOB has publicly denounced any link with Simon Ekpa and his collaborators?

It's on record and public domain that IPOB has not called for any sit-at-home during the February elections. It's also apparent that IPOB and ESN do not have any faction or splinter groups. IPOB remains peaceful and indivisible under one command to liberate Biafra Nation from Republic called Nigeria.

We reiterate that IPOB has not, did not, and will not issue any sit-at-.home order in February during the elections period. We also did not call for any boycott of the upcoming elections yet.

The focus of IPOB is the release from illegal detention of our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, whom the Appeal Court and other courts have discharged and acquitted since October 13, 2022, and the Biafra referendum date".

Sports / Pele Stopped A War In Nigeria In 1969 by smile4kenn(m): 2:19am On Dec 30, 2022
During the Nigerian Biafran civil war, based upon the wishes of the Igbo people to break away from the central government dominated by the Hausa-Fulani group from the north of the country. The beginning of 1969 saw Pele heading to Africa, even though the continent was in the throes of bloody upheaval.

Over two years of bitter, internecine violence, an estimated two million Biafrans lost their lives. Up to 4.5m were displaced from their homes before Biafra was overrun and reintegrated into Nigeria.

Santos football club of Brazil and Pele arrived right in the middle of the war, ready to play a match in Lagos on January 26, 1969. However, according to the legend, the guns fell silent when Pele & Co. rolled into town.

For 48 hours, Nigeria and Biafra held a ceasefire, during which Santos drew 2-2 with the Super Eagles, with Pele scoring both goals and receiving a standing ovation from the home fans.

However, other accounts claim that the cessation of hostilities occurred two weeks later in Benin City, on the border with Biafra.

Santos' official website insists that the region's military governor Samuel Ogbemudia decreed a local holiday and opened up the bridge that connected Benin with Biafra so that both sides of the divide could witness Santos' 2-1 victory over Nigeria in front of a crowd of 25,000 spectators.

According to Pele's teammates Gilmar and Coutinho, the ceasefire barely lasted for the game's duration; as the side's plane took off, they could hear from inside the craft the sound of gunshots that marked the resumption of conflict.

"Having stopped a war was one more point in our favor to show our supremacy," fellow Peixe legend Lima recalled to Gazeta Esportiva.

"We could have easily turned around and said, 'War is all around us – why would we enter that mess?' But we didn't. We wanted to do it, and we said: 'We are not obliged to play, but we want to, and we are going to do this.'"

Pele Stopped A War In Nigeria In 1969. - Goal.com

The story reached Time in 2005, with an article from the famous magazine claiming that "Although diplomats and emissaries had tried in vain for two years to stop the fighting in what was then Africa's bloodiest civil war, the 1969 arrival in Nigeria of Brazilian soccer legend Pele brought a three-day ceasefire."

Pele has given mixed recollections of the event, stating in his autobiography that "the Nigerians certainly made sure the Biafrans wouldn't invade Lagos while we were there."

What does the statement ‘we Nigerians built that api’ portray?

Are you by insinuation stating that an API is such an epitome of achievement that it is extremely miraculous that Nigerians could build it?

Giringory,

I responded only because someone refreshed the post.

You should have seen that if you were simple not blinded by a desire to sound sarcastic.

You asked a question, an answer came. It possibly came late because of your egoistic attitude.

Now that you have shown your touchy compass, you can do well not to ask questions here anymore so that we don’t offend you with our answers.

Mr I no sabi, before you read anything, please, check the date if it's still valid. Read and understand and comprehend. Read read read and understand, that's why your parent sent you to school.

People like you are exactly the sh#thole I try to filter out when hiring/interviewing engineers. They claim to have sense but their brain is filled with cold fufu. You are either an ewu nnewi who think they are better than other people or an imposter looking and forcing to sound enlightened.

Don’t reinvent the wheel.

Use existing libraries and APIs then you can concentrate on building something better.

Here is Google’s Cloud Translate API:
