PhysicsQED: Why are you telling me stuff I already knew? grin

But it's good that it's coming from a Ghanaian so I won't be accused of bias.

I never mentioned the ethnic group Akan or prior kingdoms because they weren't relevant to my point.
Asante's are Akan... This shows you are not intelligent and know nothing about West Africa.

Once again

BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 2:05am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: lol @ this.

But the monarch of Asante still trembled at the thought of engaging Oyo in battle, as confirmed by oyibos, so what does that say about them?
Most of that is European propaganda. You have to understand the Asante defeated the British... When one is trying to conquer a kingdom you write negative propaganda about it. The fact that you don't understand this shows you are not a historian but, a dumb physics nerd.

londoner: Have you not read my posts. I think 100%, that Nigerians should divest from Ghana and go back to Nigeria and invest.
I agree.
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 2:01am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: Nothing is permanent. After all, Asante got put in check by a certain state to the east but later improved.
Asante was an upstart from other kingdoms if you read... It never fully got up to its potential due to European interfearance. It only arose in 1700 while Akan Kingdoms(of which Asante grew out of) Existed as early as 1100...

Once again learn history wink wink

londoner: Mate....I've been to Ghana......I saw that much of it was just hype.

Besides, Nigerians are developing Nigeria......
Then have some pride and get out of Ghana and stop crying. grin grin grin
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:59am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: On the first part in bold, didn't I just tell you that it conquered Dahomey?

Apparently you can't read. Anyway, the problem here is why oyibos were under the impression that the Asante monarch feared Oyo if it was so weak.

The second part in bold is just an inherently dumb statement. No comments are necessary on that.
A weak failed state like Nigeria today which is under attack from Boko Haram and Mend... Its influence in Dahomey was limited and it would seem an Akan kingdom had more influence there since their culture is more Akan in many aspects. Once again the failed state of Oyo was much like Nigeria today. Nothing to write home about... grin grin grin grin

londoner: Lol....... Oh for goodness sake guys. The male ego and its ability to take a thread wwwaaayyyy off on a tangent.

Just let Nigerians divest from Ghana as much as possible and come home, that's all........
exactly why don't Nigerians develop Nigeria! Are they ashamed. grin grin grin grin
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:54am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: For the record, I have nothing against the Hausa or the Asante or any group whether Ghanaian or Nigerian. I just don't like the way you went into this spontaneous Hausa-Fulani a$$licking spree because of one comment I made about al boko qaeda haram problems really being northern Nigerian derived problems which they in fact are.
You should be worried by your masters who colonized part of your land even if they may have lost one battle or two. grin grin grin grin
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:53am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: No.

Try and read buddy.

Asante infringed on Dahomey (in modern Benin republic, not Nigeria) slightly, and Oyo sent their people in their to put Asante in check.

That's all that happened.
It was a weak state that everyone attacked from all angles. Why could it not push its influence into the heart of any major kingdom. That should tell you something... When one is being attacked it means they are weak. grin grin grin This is one getting close to the heart of what was a failed STATE!

BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:48am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: You don't see why you're not making sense here?

If it was a weak state why did it conquer Dahomey and then also defeat another kingdom to the west (Asante) in battle soon after?

And try and use some common sense - they operated over that great distance because they made major use of horses.
It did not defeat Asante. It prevented Asante from defeating it big difference. Asante pushed its influence to its borders when it was being whipped from all angles. grin grin grin grin grin Once again there is no real history of an ambition to get to Nigeria.
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:43am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: lol @ this nonsense

I know some history, that's why I said Asante specifically. When I mentioned Oyo I mentioned Oyo specifically, not the larger ethnic group to which they belong.

What I stated was correct. Whether you choose to accept it doesn't really matter. Who was organized first and who was really the upstart doesn't really matter too much to me. I was just correcting this bizarre notion you have that's making you lick Hausa and Fulani butt without anyone asking it of you.
The events you gave happened in the 1700's the Hausa interaction happened as early as 1500!
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:40am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: The Nupe are Fulanis and Hausas now?

The Nupe language is closer to that of other southern Nigerian languages than northern languages.

Are there Nupes and Borgu people in Ghana now? Or why are you shifting the goal post? Stop going off into tangents and just admit that you didn't know what you were talking about.
I am proving it was a weak state. This is its own backyard!

Look at the long distance. If it could not even dominate its immediate neighbors how much more would it have stood a chance at such a distance. You are talking about one battle against an expansionist empire which did not have any ambitions in what is today Nigeria but wanted to consolidate its gains in what is today the Ghana area.

PhysicsQED: lmao

Buddy, there is archaeological evidence of pavements in Oyo before the Fulani were organized (and also before Asante was organized, by the way). Please actually try and read history.

I am not against the Fulani or the Hausa as an ethnic group, and I too am neutral as I am not from any ethnic group under discussion, but you keep making yourself look sillier and sillier with these claims.
If you knew history you would know that Asante came out of serveral Akan groups that came before it.

A simple read here would get you a good start.

Once again:

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries Oyo encountered a series of related military, economic and political problems which it had increasing difficulty in solving.

There is evidence of a military decline in the late 18th century. Oyo suffered defeats at the hands of the Bariba in 1783 and the Nupe in 1790. It had probably been forced to pay tribute to Nupe before this, and there was a long period of Nupe raids on the north-eastern areas of the kingdom.
http://lucy.ukc.ac.uk/YorubaT/yt2.html

Learn proper history. It is hard to push ones influence over such a distance... winkby all accounts it was a very weak state!
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:29am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: lmao

In the only noted interaction between the two, we know what happened. No need for all this mumbo jumbo after the fact.
I am not even of that Ethnic group so a neutral historian. I am saying there is no way it would have happened. Oyo is largely considered an Upstart and never was organized. The Fulani overran the place easily. grin If this indeed true it just showed that the Western Nigeria was too hard to reach all the way from Ghana while controlling it and providing reinforcements. This is not shocking considering the distance.
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:24am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: Cavalry don't work in the forests, genius. Their entire mode of operation would have been worthless.

The Hausa Fulani couldn't even conquer a lot of the middle belt anyway (they couldn't get past the Tiv, for example), so these kind of silly claims don't need to be taken seriously.
They were on their way.
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:23am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: It's definitely not fake.

There's pretty definite confirmation of the defeat from visitors to Ashanti.

I don't want to dwell on that because I'm not against the Ashanti confederacy or anything. I was just explaining to you what happened between one of the southern groups that knew that you guys existed.
If this happened it was when the Ashanti were trying to expand to colonize Nigeria. I believe it would have happened eventually. Look at where they are based and the distance. They were moving closer to conquering Oyo than the other way around.
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:19am On Jul 07, 2012
PhysicsQED: Stop making stuff up. You look silly. There's no west African history book where you'll see nonsense like the above.
It won't say it because, it is not politically correct. Without European interference all of Nigeria today would be 100 percent Hausa Fulani.. grin grin grin

If you could read I was saying Northern Nigerias were Superior to those in the South and view themselves as such! Why do you think 99 percent of your leaders have been from the North? grin grin Just saying. Either way as you can see I know the region very well so, be careful when messing with me.
BusinessRe: Ghanaian Government Closes Nigerian Businesses In Accra. by SmoothCrim: 1:17am On Jul 07, 2012
london2lasgidi: Sometime in 1764, the Ashanti army marched out to invade the Dahomey. The exact size of neither force is known. What historians are sure of is that the Ashanti army was ambushed in or near Atakpamé in what is now Togo. A force of Dahomean infantry, including the kingdom's elite Ahosi corps of female soldiers, as well as levies from the Oyo Empire, inflicted a crushing defeat on the Ashanti army. During the battle, the Juabenhene (head of the royal clan of Oyoko) was killed. The Ashanti army never reached Dahomey and was forced to retreat.

News reached European merchants trading with the Yoruba that Oyo had inflicted a severe defeat on the Ashanti. The consequences were far reaching in that the unpopular asantethene was removed and replaced by the more youthful Osei Kwadwo. There were less documented confrontations between Ashanti and Dahomey in the early 19th century, but peace was the norm between them. This particular battle did, however, define the boundary between Asanteman and Oyo which remained the powerful states in the region.
What?? grin grin grin grin grin

Fake history. I read west African history and there are More Ashanti sounding names closer to Nigeria than Yoruba sounding names near Ghana. That should tell you something about real expansion(not that it matters)... I will admit that those who did the expansion were likely different Akans and not Ashanti but, the story still stands.

here is a little history.

The gold and Kola nut is Ghana and Ivory Coast. The Ivory Wood and Slaves is Nigeria and Cameroon. This was largely the history of the region prior to European interference.

PhysicsQED: lol @ this

There was no place called Ghana 700 years ago.

The Hausas are everywhere and they've been trading with others before they had ever heard of anyone in Ghana.

Why should anyone in the south have cared whether Ghana existed.

Wait a minute. Actually, the Oyos knew the Asante existed, and they had them (Asante) scared of Oyo at one point according to oyinbo visitors.
LOL pure lies... You know what I meant shocked shocked

More noble and with a deeper history? Stop kidding yourself, you don't know anything about history.
Yes the Hausa Fulani have been trading with Ghanaians in gold and Kola nuts for 700 years prior to the groups from the south even realizing Ghana existed. Just because today there are Boko Haram terrorist there does not mean the area has always been bad... In fact during the time of Islamic empire those in the North where doing well in the Trans-Saharan trade of goods. Look it up!

PhysicsQED: The borders of Nigeria were determined by the colonials.

Strictly speaking, these al qaeda issues actually belong in Chad and Niger and the borders would have been drawn to reflect such except for French/British rivalry.

The people you're arguing with aren't Northerners, who are the source of these issues, but people from the south who feel that they're just better than you, the same way you might think you're just better than a Somalian.

My point is, Barbadians aren't inherently better than Ghanaians or Nigerians or something. But they're much better off than you for other reasons entirely.
The people in the Southern Part of Nigeria have been under the Boot of those of the North. I don't deal with second class citizens grin grin grin

Nigerians from the North are more noble with a deeper history in West Africa and I view them as Superior!! There grin grin grin grin
