There are more Ghanaian intellectuals than Nigerians. Nigeria has always been Ghana's junior brother. In fact Ghana freed Nigeria from British Colonialism. Long live Ghana!! grin grin grin

Dude, your thinking is really shallow, 75 living under poverty? LOL, you need to look at the recent reports about Forbes Magazine about Ghana before you speak about generational poverty.

manny4life: Obviously you lack common sense. If one business is worth $1million and you have 100 businesses that's worth 1,000 each, which is better? Nigeria may be small (LIES), but her volume is 1million greater than you Ghanians and SA put together. I wish my naija brothers will come home.
Nigerian business in Ghaan does not equal 1/10000000th of South African business in revenues... It is like a rat talking about a sharp cat. A true joke! Stop embarassing yourself. How can a country with 75 percent of the people living in generational crunching poverty call itself a major investor! You are a joke! Nigeria should clean itself up and unite its country of 150 million people and then after that try to become a regional entity. As of right now Nigeria holds no sway in even Benin!! If a country cannot control all of its territory how can it do anything?

How about sending a military to remove Boko Haram! Can a Southern Nigerian set up a business in the North without a Hausa-Fulani blowing it up!!? Ghana has a right to protect it's citizens and has a right to enforce its laws. The law is clearly there and the fact that criminal minded Nigerians did not follow the law means they must have their business closed down...

If the Nigerian armed forces can't even defeat 10,000 Hausa-Fulani militants how on Earth are they going to deal with Ghana. Where there is universal hatred of Nigerian criminals. If the United States could not defeat Afganistan or Iraq decisively what makes you think the useless Nigerian military who have been made to look foolish can touch a country of 25 million people? grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Your stupid map also showed that; Egba, Ijebu, parts of both Ekiti and Ondo, Sabe etc. are not Yoruba.. That's pure comedy..

You guys will die worrying about Yoruba...Bwahahahahaha
Learn history very carefully. I need real evidence. I have noticed from recent research that those Ethnic groups between Yoruba and Akan lands use Akan names!! I wonder why the Akan don't claim them??

They are more Akan than Yoruba or have been more influenced by the Akan. I can give give you the sources I am looking at right now. Yoruba's should learn to accept their real history and not claim a fake origin for distinct ethnic groups who don't show any characteristics of the Yoruba. The Ethnic group most related to the Yoruba live in Nigeria today and they are the Igbo and maybe the Hausa-Fulani who colonized part of Yoruba land!! Are you ashamed to be related to them??

ifyalways: Why should I read your post?aren't you funny?who really made you an authority on the subject and where did I quote that the Ga's are related to the yorubas?
@Topic, from personal point of view and observation based on way of life, language etc, I would associate the Ga's to yoruba's as opposed to the Ewes. James town the home of the Ga's is pretty much same as lagos island.
Do they speak the same language. grin grin grin Yoruba inferority complex filled people embarassed by their real history which is being under Fulani rule so trying to claim distinct ethnic groups as Yoruba grin grin grin

NO historian worth their salt would say that this is true. Outside of European intervention in what is today Nigeria Yoruba's would today be calling themselves Hausa-Fulani...

Obalufon: Akan people are from Mali. Ewe are from Ketu in Benin republic we are sprang from one source ,we have tradition and culture linking us together IFA/AFA.
History Yoruba is very old and not easy to unravel, there have been series of immigration and emigration in the area for so long all tribe around Yoruba region have history linking them to Yoruba.
TO US OMO ODUA ILE-IFE IS THE CRADLE OF ALL LIFE. WE CELEBRATE THE CREATION OF THE WORLD EVERY YEAR ITAPA FESTIVAL.

ILE – IFE , the cradle of Yoruba, the city of the survivors, spiritual seat of the Yoruba, where the dawn of the day was first experienced, the source, the head of the whole universe; the land of the most ancient days, the home of divinities and to the people of Ife “ILURUN” i.e. Gateway to heaven.
Nonsense. grin grin grin grin

Are you a Fon?? Your verson history is false false false

The Akan did not migrate from Mali but, may have migrated from the Sahel region Prior to the islamization of the Sahel. It would seem the culture they practice is very similar to those ancient pre-Islamization West African cultures which is why they can't possibly be from Mali which was an Islamized state.
CultureRe: "We The Ewe People Of Ghana Are The Same As Yoruba"- Yewe2011.ewe Guy From Ghana by SmoothCrim: 3:15pm On Jun 28, 2012
Once again there is no relation between any of those ethnic groups and the Yoruba. The language's don't match, the culture does not match, and they are more related to ethnic groups in Ghana(genetically). To put it bluntly, they are a distinct ethnic group and have nothing to do with the Yoruba. They don't dress like the Yoruba, speak a language close to the Yoruba, have similar festivals to the Yoruba etc etc. It is a distinct ethnic group.

West Africa 1625

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/47/WestAfrica1625.png

This is western Africa as Europeans saw it in 1625. Are Malians Yoruba? Are Akans Yoruba?? grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin The answer is NO!!!!

These ethnic groups you are calling Yoruba(Ewe's and others) have always existed between Akan land and Yoruba land. They are not Yoruba but, distinct ethnic groups which were not fully studied and sometimes bunched together with Akans or Yoruba's... Just like in the North between Mali and Akan there are ethnic groups that are called Akan origin and ethnic groups called Malian origin. In many cases it is not clear because those ethnic groups are mixed... I actually had to look into this to understand it and I read proper history NOT fake ones put together by drunk men. cheesy

The Ewe's are not Yoruba they are a distinct ethnic group more related to groups like the Fon etc etc.

Obalufon: Why are you so bitter about the post? you need to watch your words .i know you are not Yoruba. there was no time in Yoruba history we were ever dominated by the Hausa's ,they were used as slaves in our land also in wars and fulanis were scholars and traders in Yoruba land for centuries before they took advantage of a greedy general who wanted to create a state for himself within the empire due to internal disintegration of the empire. Northern part of Yoruba territory was the power house of the empire that was where the Calvary regiments of the empire was located and made it hard for Oyo to retake back the north but the fulanis were checked from advancing. "We are Yoruba or anago not Yoruba okay" Ewe Anago/yoruba, Ifon Akan Have the same linage .language mutates itself. "ETYMOLOGY "
grin grin grin grin grin grin More fake history LOL. There is no relation between these peoples. hahahahahahahhahahahahahahha
1) These groups are not related at all.
2) Of these groups the only one who may be claiming history with the Yoruba are the Ewe(like the starter of this thread who I believe is a troll) but, there is no evidence of it and the history being given here is largely a fabrication.

Actually, this is very dangerous history and will get you in big trouble in some parts of the world. Look up other groups history before you try to claim them. The Yoruba claim of even the country Benin is largely false. The peoples there are a unique people and not Yoruba as some here would like to think.

Lastly, Yoruba are more related to Igbo than any of the tribes in Ghana or Ivory Coast and genetics has proven this.

Now for the Fulani conquest of Oyo

http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/425784/Ogbomosho

A simple read will show this.

Those attacks still go on today!

http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/news-update/38100-oyo-farm-settlers-lament-attacks-by-herdsmen.html

Any questions? I only deal with real history not fake history written by semi literates.

To conclude, The Ewe are a distinct ethnic group who today have mixed with their direct neighbors of which the Yoruba are not one.

To the people comparing Nigerian to Ghana.

Looking at 2012 Statistics Ghanais better in areas that matter most this is:

1) Failed State Index- After all if you are a failed state you are the lowest of the low
2) Human development Index- After all it controls for ever thing
3) Ghana was the fastest growing economy in 2011
4) Percent living below poverty 25 percent vs. 70 percent in Nigeria
5) Global peace index- without peace there can be no development
6) Balanced Economy- 90 percent of Nigeria's revenues are from oil. Take away oil and Nigeria is finished. Ghana's economy is more diverse so it is better

The areas where Nigeria is much better than Ghana is strictly due to population and when you control for population Nigeria is about as good as Senegal or worse! In other words it is what will happen if you join 7 Senegal's together and call it a federal republic. There is nothing special being done in Nigeria which is out of the norm and Nigeria CANNOT be called a regional power because, it can't really exert power EVEN IN NIGERIA(Boko Haram controls 70 percent of the state)! That is to say, Nigeria cannot control all of its territory(hence the term FAILED STATE)... Nigeria is not in Ghana's league! To compare Nigeria to Ghana is to compare worst to better. It is to compare a bike to a car.

I will end by saying Nigerians should develop Nigeria and stop talking. The country should first and foremost

1) Get rid of Al Qaeda(Boko Haram)
2) diversify it's Economy
3) stop migrating to other countries and fix Nigeria because as long as Nigeria is in very bad shape with bad news every time, Nigerians will never be respected....
4) Stop portraying Nigeria as the biggest black state and stuff like that. It is an embarrassment and makes Blacks look bad. If Nigeria is a reflection of blacks then what a disgrace grin grin grin grin Nigeria is a reflection of Nigeria. Full stop!
PoliticsRe: Reps Ask ECOWAS To Stop Deportation Of Nigerians From Ghana by SmoothCrim: 8:46am On Jun 26, 2012
Onlytruth: My 2 cents that Ghana won't try anything.
I know that Nigeria has MANY issues, but we can survive Ghana deportations. The question is CAN GHANA SURVIVE NIGERIA CUTTING OFF DIPLOMATIC LINKS WITH GHANA? huh
You may think this is a tea party kind of tussle; it is not.
No sane West African country should engage Nigeria in a diplomatic tussle. Nigerian market/economy is about 70% of the West African market/economy.
There is a lot Nigeria can do with that internationally and diplomatically.
Ghana does not need the failed state of Nigeria. Nigeria's is a weak over populated country that has not even managed to stop Al Qaeda(Boko Haram) from taking over 70 percent of the state and you want to talk about who?? grin grin grin grin grin

4evergod3: I also saw this coming and resoundingly voted against GEJ and i will do it again Being an easterner I ought to have voted for him but i and my entire family never did because of his activities while acting in Bayelsa. Nigerians are too sentimental and never see the truth even when it is staring them right in the face.

Ghana is now talking back to us because of GEJ it was never so with other leaders. Nigeria still had a semblance of respect and status while under past leaders but with GEJ it all went to the dogs. Everything he touches now gets destroyed because the poor guy just simple can't do this job. If he can't face the heat then get the hell out of the kitchen.

GEJ must go! Every revolution starts with one man and if i must start this one then so be it. Enough talking and more action. We keep talking about GEJ and he keeps wreaking havoc to this nation. This man must not remain till 2015 otherwise you and i would have to relocate to Ghana or cameroon by then as their economies would be a goldmine by then and ours would be like somalia.
What makes you think they would take a skill-less, hapless, gutless Nigerian??

ziccoit: From Prof. George

To my Nigerian followers. I appreciate all your wonderful comments, including the negative ones, regarding my write-up on GEJ. It will be impossible to respond to all individually; hence, this generic response.

I always distinguish between African leaders/governments and the PEOPLE. Chinua Achebe said it best in his book, The Trouble With Nigeria. There is nothing wrong with the Nigerian character, culture or water. The problem lies purely and squarely with the leadership.

I have always admired Nigerians in the past -- resilient people, bustling with energy, dynamism and entrepreneurship. You will still find these admirable traits in some spots such as Onitsha Market. But the Nigerians of today are of a different stock – broken spirits, battered souls and trapped in cocoons of fear, mistrust and despair. Decades of reckless misrule and total government dysfunction have corroded the fabric of Nigerian character and society. When trapped in such a mess or maze, it is difficult to see the way out. When you engage a Nigerian in a conversation, the first thing s/he wants to know is which tribe or religion do you belong to? It never used to be like this.

The Ashanti have a proverb which says, “The one cutting a path through the bush does not see if it is crooked or not. Only those who stand afar can determine this.” What I write about Nigeria comes from this perspective. I am not Yoruba, Ndigbo or Hausa. I have no political axe to grind in Nigeria. I cannot even be president of Nigeria. In fact, I am not interested in the presidency of any African country. I call it the way I see it without fear or favor. The advantage and the service that I provide to the people of Nigeria is that I can say a lot of things which they are afraid to say. That doesn’t mean everything I say about Nigeria is true but at least it exposes the people to new or alternative perspectives.

However, it is not enough to say that President Goodluck Jonathan is a joke without pointing out the way forward, which is what I drilled into my students. Accordingly, I am writing another piece, Making Nigeria Work Again, which I will tweet in a couple of days.

Thanks for all your comments.
Thanks for the comment...ignore the negative posts grin cool
