Someone just sent me a CV that was totally irrelevant to the jobs offered. To make it worse, it was Ccd (carbon copied) to 4 other recipients - apparently for other jobs! How dimwitted can one be? For the benefit of those who don't know; READ and COMPREHEND before your respond to any job vacancy. I would hate to believe this gentleman is a university graduate. Cheers. |
All you have to do is take your copy to the closest Zonal Directorate of NYSC and file a request for another original. Expect to be charged a fee. However due to the inefficient systems in Naija, you may have to go to NYSC HQ in Abuja to get it yourself. Best of luck! Smooth |

Hi guys, one thing I would say is; you've got talent. However, I think you have what it takes to go beyond the status quo-commonplace-Lagos-artist-anything-goes-mediocre mentality. I'm really worried that our artistes are having a hard to producing music that is not only entertaining but is intellectually stimulating. Let's take Black Eyed Peas, since this is your benchmark. Take the time to listen to the lyrics e.g. Where is the Love? or Let's get it started -- these are not run-off-the-mill lyrics. They are carefully thought out and crafted -- and yes, intellectually stimulating on all levels, musically speaking and otherwise. You guys went to Kings College, I expect better from you than what I'll expect from say Tony Tetuila. I hope you take my crit in good faith. Cheers for the effort. |
Hi Otokx, I presume you have not read the first post setting out the ground rules. When you make a nomination, please give a convincing reason why your nominee should be on the list. In addition, it will be useful to have some more info, bio etc. for the benefit of those who don't know anything about your nominee. Cheers! |

Elphem I share your sentiments. Nevertheless, I think it will also be a good idea for us to have both the living and those who have gone ahead of us, primarily for the benefit of those who did not have the opportunity to learn about "our heroes past" especially if such nominations relevant bios. If at the end of the day however, we end up with the "heroes past" making up the bulk of our list of Outstanding Nigerians, then it will be a shameful indictment on us all, and a clear indication that we truly have no living role models, living heroes. No one we can point as and say, "he or she 'is MAKING' a difference in my lifetime, I can be like that" or "this is our Mandela" a symbol of character, hope, can-do attitude and the Nigerian ideal. |
It's good to see the nominations are pouring in. So far we have 7 nominees. Nota bene Please keep your nominations to a minimum to give others the oportunity to participate. Bulk nominations, especially without telling us why you think the person(s) deserve(s) to be on the list, will not pass. Cheers! 1. Hey people, let's celebrate our brightest and best by making a list of Nigerians of all endeavour that have stood out wherever they may be. I trust at the end of the day we'll have some more reason not to only moan about Nigeria but also some thing to be proud about! You will need to tell us why your nominee should be on the list, and it'll even be better if you provide more info, bios, websites etc these person(s). They must be men and women of unquestionable character. I'll update the list as we go along. Feel free to submit more than one entry. Ok, I'll go first. 1. Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala (Nigeria's Minister of Finance, former Vice President, World Bank, New York for her role in securing the $18 billion debt relief with the Paris Club. http://www.time.com/time/europe/hero2004/iweala.html |

http://www.elendureports.com/ Visted this site? Now that's what I call journalism - objective, substantiated facts, well written, fearless reporting. |
These people touting Orji Uzor Kalu for president should stop insulting our intelligence. I'm tired of Nigerians behaving as if we are bankrupt on qualified leaders. His background as a businessman is fraught with questionable practices, and I will not for a fleeting moment consider him as being "successful", hence his failure as a governor. I mean where does he stand on the scale of distinction when compared to the Ovias, Iwealas, Adenugas of our country? |
http://gulfnews.com/Articles/NationNF.asp?ArticleID=188457 And yet again Nigeria is on the list. When will international embarrassments such as these stop? ![]() |
It is costly when people make decisions based on hearsays, hasty generalizations and old wives' tales. How many of us have taken the time to actually hear these politician articulate their vision for Nigeria? In a country where we have all it takes in terms of human and natural resources, we continue to languish at rock bottom of everything else except all that's good and enviable. Have you ever listened to British prime minister Tony Blair speak to members of Parliament, or Senator Barack Obama of the United States, or David Cameron MP of the UK, or Rep Jesse Jackson Jr (to mention a few)? Did you notice the freshness, the passion, the clarity of thought, delivery of speech and charisma these men exude? I dare anyone to mention 3 Nigerian leaders in the three tiers of government who can come close. Not since the days of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa and Chief Obafemi Awolowo have we had such inspiring leaders. Which brings me to my main point. We desperately need visionary, inspiring leaders. What for goodness sake does it matter if he was a musician? Was former US Pres. Ronald Reagan not a Hollywood actor? (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001654/). What about Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura (former pro wrestler), or probably the most famous of all, Arnold Schwarzenegger. It is very myopic to discountenance him just because he was once a musician. More important is was he successful as a musician? Fellow forumites, does it not bother you that we have charlatans running our country aground and we are here criticizing Chris Okotie, one of the few brave visionary leaders Nigeria has produced? I personally feel we need a new lease of life - with someone who is detribalized, not carrying any baggage from the past. Someone who has the guts to do what's right, one who can inspire passion, knowledgeable, savvy can engage his or her counterparts in other countries on any level. Wether this person is an Imam or a Reverend is totally irrelevant. Let us be thus minded. Tony Blair (http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/Page4.asp Sen Barack Obama (http://www.obamaforillinois.com/) David Cameron (http://www.davidcameronmp.com/about.php) Rep. Jesse Jackson Jnr. (http://www.house.gov/jackson/) |
I've been thinking about this and other questions for a while now. Another question I'm struggling to answer is this; can I say in all honesty that I'm proud to be a Nigerian? |
