TravelMoving Back To Nigeria After The Lockdown by Snaagg(op): 8:15pm On May 19, 2020
Nigerians abroad, how many of you are considering relocating back to the 'motherland' once this whole pandemic/lockdown debacle is over?

If you are, state your reasons here..

Instead of telling your husband to stop 'spending on his family', point him to projects he can spend money on.

E.g. 'My friend said there is one cheap land at Igbo Tutu' or 'how I wish we had our house, we wouldn't be bothered about Baba Mulika asking for rent every year' or 'there is one mutual funds that the entry is N200k and you get 15% returns per year. We can be paying Junior's fees from the interest'. You can also bring up investment for your kids etc.

You know what works with your husband so explore that. Also appreciate him for what he does so far.

@buying your land: I am not a fan of spouses buying stuffs behind each other so I will say deposit the money in mutual benefit/Chapel Hill/Piggybank for now while you try to make him see reason. I particularly don't like the fact you want only your name on the land; recipe for disaster as your husband is not hiding his own funds; he is just not spending it wisely.

You should also understand where your husband is coming from: in some cultures, the 'worth' of the first son/husband of the first daughter is their ability to fund everyone's lifestyle without complaint while their own immediate family suffers.

It is a recurring theme so you re-orientate him in love and harmony to see that his family can and will survive without his handouts.

Also note that if he goes 360 and stops funding his siblings, it can cause problems for you'all.
You are one of the most intelligent women on this forum. I just love you kiss

The problem with Nigerian women is that you guys talk too much. At the end, your men don’t listen to you.

They only call you nags, petty, accuse you of trying to separate their family...etc

Talk less and act more! I don’t have time to be talking nonsense with you every time. I calculate my moves and proceed. After that, I activate my sit-down-dey-look-mode. If you wanna perish, you will perish alone.
But you don't have a husband though undecided

FamilyRe: What Do You Think Is Wrong With African Style Of Parenting? by Snaagg(m): 12:20pm On May 19, 2020
Lionessza6:
1 .I think a lot African parents ( mothers in particular), tend to treat their sons as mini-kings who can do no wrong in their eyes. This is where the culture of Male entitlement starts from; the upbringing. The boys grow up with a sense of superiority that somehow absolves them of certain responsibilities.

2. Staying in toxic relationships for the children. In many cases, the children end-up worse off psychologically ,than kids coming out of healthy parents leaving apart .

3. The "if Kevin can do it ,you can do it too ".mentality. you have a lot of parents who see the neighbour's kid doing well selling bread ,& they start pushing their own children towards that trade or career without assisting them in what they are really good at so that they can too be a shining example in their own right. You see the results of this in many African markets ,everyone sells the samethings ,hardly will you find people who produce the products or selling something that is not readily available.
So in other words, women themselves are the instigators and gatekeepers of the same misogyny they cry & complain about??

Interesting cheesy

Let them? Why do we have to let them?

Isn't it basic that a wife should be earning enough to be able to cater for herself and her children, just in case her husband slumps and dies the next minute?

The real problem here is that too many Nigerian women want to depend on their husband's wealth, or rather they want to fall-back on it. They have no bigger ambition than this.
Thank goodness I was not brought up around women of this sort.

Some people are simply generous to a fault and I bet the OP's husband falls in this category. He's not the first of his kind, and as a matter of fact I have a personal experience with such but I'd rather not share here.

The success of men like him almost always depend on the kind of wife he has because it's only a woman who has no financial weight in the eyes of her husband that will have no influence over him when it comes to financial decisions. FACT.

A husband who knows that his wife is at a financial level close or equal to his, will not take her opinions lightly and will want to find a way to heed to her warnings - this is a simple truth most women still don't want to accept.
Interesting perspective. You are absolutely right bro.
FamilyRe: Are Children Entitled To Their Parent's Wealth by Snaagg(m):
alphaNomega:
Stop forming woke and trying to be politically correct. If you grew up in abject poverty and was able to climb the social ladder to the elite level, would you deny your children the possession of your wealth after you die? Even if they were with bad behaviour? Which would mean you did a bad job as a parent anyway.

Children are entitled to their parents' wealth. angry
I saw a thread here not long ago about "children are not a retirement plan" or something like that ..
And folks on that thread agreed with the topic, speaking ill of parents and calling them "entitled" etc.. lipsrsealed

Would those same individuals keep the same energy here? Or would they hypocritically argue that children must inherit thier parents' wealth..

Lol. Are you seriously asking this question?

Not sure of those abroad o, but most Nigerian girls in Nigeria simply cannot AFFORD to leave home even if they wanted to cheesy

Many are jobless, depending on stipends from their multiple boyfriends, whilst the "independent and empowered " ladies that have a job are seriously underpaid and still expect a man to fund their lifestyle in one way or the other.

Nigerian girls are simply liabilities, waiting for a knight in shiny armour to come rescue them from their father's house.

That wasn't done so there's really no point keeping people at home while testing 200 per day in a state with a high rate of community transmission.

Please help us tell them o, you can't fall sick in peace again, no hospital will attend to you. People are dying of disease that are more serious than novel corona virus but the count they are taking isn't making them concentrate on other sickness again.
Worst part is they are now classifying everything as Covid-19 in a pathetic attempt to justify the lockdown.

Go to isolation centres and see how scanty the place is.. just go and see how the few people there (I mean very few) are having all sorts of symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea etc.. all of which are NOT coronavirus symptoms. Nigerian health practitioners are so heavily misinformed about what this 'virus' is and it's so funny to watch.

If you have typhoid it's now coro,
Malaria nko, it's coro too. lipsrsealed

I just question why the mass fear mongering and manipulation of figures... This virus is not as deadly as it's been portrayed! It's nothing more than an overhyped strain of the Flu.
TravelRe: Nigeria Is A Failed Miserable Country by Snaagg(m): 6:41am On May 17, 2020
cronsberg:
Just today I was making some random searches online as to why we in Nigeria seem so docile in the face of overwhelming oppression by our leaders, then I came across the history of the french revolution, and how it impacted them so much as to input the right to revolt in their constitution. They stormed the Bastille, killed off their monarchs and returned power to the people.

Most American states also have it in their constitutions the right of the people to revolt and change government, even the right to bear arms and use it to protect oneself from government tyranny. Thomas Jefferson also said when the government becomes afraid of the people you have freedom, but when the people become afraid of government you have tyranny.

With all these, it seems to me that Nigerians will come to a point where they cannot continue to take the oppression of leaders, then they will use their firm and inalienable right of revolt to force change in this country. The whole armed forces of this country including police, army ,navy etc used in controlling and enforcing inhumane laws, fraudulent financial crimes etc are not even up to a million. Yet we have 200million citizens in this country just sitting and watching a handful of people enjoying it all alone while you rest suffer on. People will come to that realization. Hopefully soon
Sorry bro I doubt this will ever happen.

The so called 'middle class' who have grown accustomed to generators and a mediocre standard of living will NEVER take to the streets to protest.. afterall, they can rent an apartment with little to no electricity supply, earn a pitiful N100k - N200k a month & drive a run down 2002 model Toyota or Lexus lipsrsealed

The ones who may attempt an 'uprising', will be those living in abject poverty/suffering and can no longer survive ... and even if they protest (which again is highly unlikely), all it will take is the distribution of hot agege bread to disperse all of them back to their dark huts/ face me I face you. cry

Nigerians don't believe they deserve better. Trust me on this!

Pure ignorance. The development of vaccine must pass through multiple layers of testing and verification which is why it takes so long to be certified.

All of these are published and peer reviewed, unlike the laughable farce occuring in Madagascar.
Well then, in the near future, when the "well tested, verified and certified" poison vaccine is released, please feel free to have yourself and your entire family injected with it!

The stupid thing about this protest is that, their foolishness will affect others.
What's so stupid about protesting?? Are you aware these protests are going on all over the world..

.. go check out what's happening in Berlin, Germany for example.. where thousands of protesters fought back against the compulsory use of face masks so much so that violence broke out, and the police became overwhelmed by the people.

Notice how other races do not function under a slave mentality like most docile Africans do, that's why their own government works to make sure the country works for their citizens (this doesn't always apply to the blacks or other immigrants there) but you get my gist - if people are not happy, they will take to the streets and remind the government that they work for the people NOT the other way around!

Can you say the same for this useless country called Nigeria? Of course I don't expect you to grasp the concept of freedom of choice. Servitude is inherently engrained in your DNA lipsrsealed
