Coronavirus: US to borrow record $3tn as spending soars 4 May 2020 The US has said it wants to borrow a record $3tn (£2.4tn) in the second quarter, as coronavirus-related rescue packages blow up the budget. The sum is more than five times the previous quarterly record, set at the height of the 2008 financial crisis. In all of 2019, the country borrowed $1.28tn. The US has approved about $3tn in virus-related relief, including health funding and direct payouts. Total US government debt is now near $25tn. The latest spending packages are estimated to be worth about 14% of the country's economy. The government has also extended the annual 15 April deadline for tax payments, adding to the cash crunch. The new borrowing estimate is more than $3tn above the government's previous estimate, a sign of the impact of the new programmes. Does the US debt of $20tn matter? Discussions are under way over further assistance, though some Republicans have expressed concerns about the impact of more spending on the country's skyrocketing national debt. The US borrows by selling government bonds. It has historically enjoyed relatively low interest rates since its debt is viewed as relatively low-risk by investors around the world. But even before the coronavirus, the country's debt load had been climbing toward levels many economists consider risky for long-term growth, as the country spent more than it took in. The US Congressional Budget Office last month predicted the budget deficit would hit $3.7tn this year, while the national debt soared above 100% of GDP. Last week, the chair of America's central bank, Jerome Powell, said he would have liked to see the US government's books be in better shape before the pandemic However, he said spending now was essential to cushion the economic blow, as orders to shut businesses to slow the spread of the virus cost at least 30 million people their jobs. "It may well be that the economy will need more help from all of us if the recovery is to be a robust one," he said. As part of its own relief efforts, the Federal Reserve has bought more than $1tn in treasuries in recent weeks. Investors from foreign countries are also historically significant holders of US debt, with Japan, China and the UK at the top of the pack as of February. Increased tensions between the US and China in recent years have renewed scrutiny of America's debt position. According to the Washington Post last week, Trump administration officials had discussed cancelling debt obligations to China, but US President Donald Trump reportedly played down the idea, saying "you start playing those games and it's tough". |

Clubkonnect is not a scammer but like lmentioed above their customer service is very terrible.I have had lots of problems with them in the past. You can imagine paying for a data to renew your subscription and your money taken but no data was given. On 2 instances I lost 3gb & 4gb of data. On one occasion it took them 6 months to refund my money. This was after spending more than the refund on call and text. These are very terrible experience. In February this year I had to renew my subscription and I paid for data but while my wallet was debited, for more than 5hrs, data was not given. All call I made went to voicemail, text messages not answered and resolution system didn't work. Then I redo the subscription again to save my data from being wiped away. Again money taken, data wasn't given. After 10hrs, I turned to tiwatek and within minutes, I received data to rollover my 4gb yata balance. I went to clubkonnect to cancel my 2 subscription and a text for the same purpose because it's no more needed. Just 5mins after this, I received a text showing the first data sub was in. 2 hours later I checked found my money for 2nd sub was not refunded. I sent a text again asking them to cancel and refund my money. As soon as they received the text, data was given again instead of refund to my wallet. Anyway, my advice is this, if you can't manage frustration, disappointment and a terrible service, don't use clubkonnect. They have penchant for failing customer at a time it's least expected. Just zero your mind that you are dealing with uncertainty. It can be good & it can be worse The guy for over 3 years now have refused to make a positive change to his customers service. Good luck to him. |

Higher tax during recession when company were struggling to survive and many closed down? Many wealthy and citizens and politicians were made to pay tax through compulsory self assessment. First of its type in Nigeria. Thanks to Fowler initiative Secondly, what was the reason a Cos had to travel to Germany to negotiate power contract. Kickback, estacode or what? Thirdly, he'a bully who even ensure the president family is messed up. Leaking confidential memo to the press for his selfish reasons. Everybody needs to learn from his experience. Stark statistics from Chicago health officials have underscored the heavy toll of coronavirus on black Americans. Black Chicagoans account for half of all coronavirus cases in the city and more than 70% of deaths, despite making up 30% of the population. Other cities with large black populations, including Detroit, Milwaukee, New Orleans and New York, have become coronavirus hotspots. The US has recorded nearly 370,000 virus cases and almost 11,000 deaths. Globally there have been nearly 75,000 deaths and more than 1.3m cases total. What do Chicago's statistics show? As of 5 April, 1,824 out of Chicago's 4,680 confirmed Covid-19 cases were black residents, said city officials on Monday. That compared with 847 white, 478 Hispanic and 126 Asian Chicagoans. Chicago has seen a total of 98 deaths as of Sunday, with 72% of them black residents. The disparity is reflected across the state, where black people account for 41% of Covid-19 deaths, despite making up 14% of the population of Illinois. Chicago public health commissioner Dr Allison Arwady told reporters that black city residents already lived on average about 8.8 years less than their white counterparts. Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the coronavirus was "devastating black Chicago". She said city inspectors would be sent into shops to ensure everyone was adhering to social distancing guidelines. Mayor Lightfoot also raised the possibility of curfews in areas where people gathered outside liquor stores, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. What's the picture nationally? Though the coronavirus has been called the "great equalizer", data suggests that vulnerability to the infection may vary by neighbourhood. In Michigan, African Americans make up 14% of the population, but they account for 33% of the coronavirus cases and 41% of deaths, figures from the state health department showed on Monday. White residents account for about 23% of recorded cases in Michigan and 28% of deaths, according to the data. Detroit, Michigan, is about 80% black, and the city together with its surrounding suburbs accounts for around 80% of confirmed coronavirus cases. A similar disparity has emerged in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one of the most segregated cities in the US. African Americans made up almost half of Milwaukee Country's nearly 1,000 cases as of last Friday and 81% of its 27 deaths, despite black people accounting for 26% of the population there, according to a study by ProPublica. Some 40% of Louisiana's coronavirus deaths have occurred in the New Orleans area, where the majority of residents are black. Health officials have previously said the Big Easy's residents suffer from rates of obesity, diabetes and hypertension that are higher than the national average, making them more vulnerable to Covid-19. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52194018 |

GamalNasser:. You mean almighty America could be so vulnerable? So they can't manage the lockdown? Things not as terrible as this even in China. What about convid-19 deaths? About 100,000 is projected to die in US Note that Nigeria only recorded 2 death so far |
US jobless claims hit another record.. Death from convid-19 now above 5,000. The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefit has surged to 6.65m, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to upend the country's economy. The actual figure is believed to be even higher as many people have reported jammed phone lines and difficulties with filing their claims online. It's also worth noting that some kinds of workers, such as people working part-time, do not qualify for unemployment benefit. The latest figure eclipses the previous week's record of nearly 3.3m people, according to Department of Labor data. The rush, which is unprecedented in modern US history, has overwhelmed many state offices handling the claims. Car firms have halted production and air travel has fallen dramatically. According to economists, a fifth of the US workforce is now on some form of lockdown. www.bbc.com/news/live/world-52130552 Lalasticlala food don come |
