Globacom Telecommunication’s company , again takes a giant leap to boost ICT in Nigeria with its planned construction of a multi-billion naira optic fibre submarine cable which will run across oil platforms and communities in Nigeria.

Named Glo 2, the initiative was unveiled at a contract-signing ceremony between the national operator, Globacom, and global telecom solutions vendors, Huawei, on Tuesday at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Globacom’s Regional Director, Technical, Mr Sanjib Roy, said at the ceremony that the submarine cable would wind round the Nigerian coast from Alpha Beach in Lagos, where Glo 1 landing station is located, to the Southern part of Nigeria as well as availing ultra high capacity connection to the South-South Region where capacity will be provided to offshore oil platforms and the communities.

Glo 2 project is expected to boost telecommunication service delivery in the country and add to the economic and social empowerment of the communities in the oil producing regions. It will equally provide high speed internet connectivity as well as digitalize oil platforms with a view to improving productivity by uploading data to remote oil platforms at the speed of light.

According to him, “Glo2 will be the first submarine cable in Nigeria to land outside Lagos as the five existing submarine cables only landed in Lagos. Glo 2 will have capacity of 12Terabit per second and will provide ultra-high speed connection to oil platforms and communities to empower data coverage and support Enterprise market growth in this part of Nigeria”.

He further disclosed that Glo is the first to provide dedicated submarine optical fiber to oil platforms to support the growth of the Nigerian economy while assisting Oil Communities to cut down on their operational expenditure. “It is also designed for further expansion southwards to Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Angola, among others,” he said.

Mr Roy added that Glo 2 would enable high capacity connections between oil companies’ offices onshore and their offshore locations. “The New submarine cable will be approximately 850 kilometres long and will be named Glo2. The cable will be integrated to Globacom’s existing terrestrial Backbone Network to provide additional service redundancy, especially Abuja and other parts of the country”, he posited.

While the cable would contain three fiber pairs, with the first pair connecting Lagos directly to the Southern part of Nigeria with terrestrial extension to other parts of the country for redundancy and maintenance purposes, the second will be equipped with eight switchable Branching Units (BUs) which will deliver high capacity to offshore oil stations and communities connected directly to BUs, with the third pair equipped with two (2) switchable Branching Units to deliver high capacity to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea.

The new project complements the Glo 1 international submarine cable built by Globacom in 2010 which is the only one of its kind in Nigeria managed end to end, from Lagos to London, by a single business concern and currently supplies sufficient bandwidth to the West African sub-region.

Managing Director of Huawei , Mr. Li Belfang declared at the event that Huawei is proud to partner with Globacom to build a revolutionary submarine cable using innovative and leading technology. “We believe the cable would bring a new era of digitalization to Nigerian economy”, he said.

American rapper, Meek Mill has been released from prison after being incarcerated for violating his probation.

Meek Mill, who was sentenced after violating his probation on a drug and weapon’s case regained his freedom on Monday.

The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania made the decision to release him following a long legal battle challenging his conviction.

Speaking shortly after his release, Meek Mill told Billboard that “I’d like to thank God, my family, my friends, my attorneys, my team at Roc Nation including JAY-Z, Desiree Perez, my good friend Michael Rubin, my fans.”

He also thanked, “The Pennsylvania Supreme Court and all my public advocates for their love, support and encouragement during this difficult time.

“While the past five months have been a nightmare, the prayers, visits, calls, letters and rallies have helped me stay positive.

“To the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office, I’m grateful for your commitment to justice not only for my case, but for others that have been wrongfully jailed due to police misconduct.”

He further said ;

"Although I’m blessed to have the resources to fight this unjust situation, I understand that many people of colour across the country don’t have that luxury and I plan to use my platform to shine a light on those issues".

”In the meantime, I plan to work closely with my legal team to overturn this unwarranted conviction and look forward to reuniting with my family and resuming my music career.”

Big Brother Naija 2018 housemate, Tobi has spoken about his relationship with Cee-C and Alex.
Speaking after his eviction, Tobi said he would be friends with Cee-c.

He said,

“Outside the house me and Cee-C we will be friends again

“I have real feeling for Alex but that depends on her and Alex. ”

Both Tobi and Cee-c have endured a stormy relationship while on the show.

Miracle won the Payporte games after having the fastest time in all of the games in the ‘Double Wahala’ edition.

Miracle won N1million naira in cash.

Popular music producer and Mavins boss, Don Jazzy has reacted to Miracle emerging winner of this year’s Big Brother Naija reality show.
In a series of tweets posted after the announcement was made, he wrote: “It’s a Miracle. #bbnaija 2018 WINNER

Who knew that “Davido” is a savage? Well if you were ever in doubt, the singer has cleared the doubt with his recent act of spending $1000 to troll a non-fan on Instagram.
A certain @hopewellc took to Instagram to narrate how Davido failed to command attention when he stepped into Zimbabwe’s Pomona Nando. He made this post perhaps with no intention to poke the singer but Davido is not a man to allow people smear him. In reaction to the post by @hopewellc, Davido initiated a ‘best caption wins’ challenge using a picture of @hopewellc, with a promise of $1000 for the winner.

After several entries, Davido found his winner in @Princepaul whose preferred caption for the picture is ‘Begger.’ This caption was satisfactory to Davido who clearly enjoyed trolling @hopewellc even at a cost of a $1000.

Evicted Big Brother Naija 2018 housemate, Khloe has said Miracle may change his behavior if he emerges winner of the reality show.
Khloe revealed this in an Instagram post on Tuesday night.

Khloe said she does not dislike Miracle but just thinks his lifestyle would change after Big Brother.

She wrote “As for Miracle Ikechukwu , Common! I was disqualified from the show, sent home and I got to appreciate the overpowering love and support from his fans.

“Why would I hate on a guy and have his myriad of supporters hate me too? I only expressed the fact that fame & fortune changes people and it did look like Miracle will shift from his behavioural pattern in d BBN house to somebody else. But then, who am I to judge?

“It’s okay to disagree with the thoughts or opinions expressed by other people. That doesn’t give you the right to deny any sense they might make. Nor does it give you a right to accuse someone of poorly expressing their beliefs just because you don’t like what they are saying.

Speed Darlington has blasted Big Brother Naija for playing his song without paying him.

Speed Darlington took to the streets of New York to demand payment for his song ‘ Bangdadadang’ played by Dj Lambo during last Saturday night party.

In a short video clip he shared via Instagram, he said he makes no money as an independent artist, therefore, deserved to be paid by BBNaija.
In the video, he said “I hear BBNaija is using Bangdadadang and they gave me no money. They are using my music for free without penny in my pocket.

All of you at my palace. I want to know if it’s true that someone is milking independent artist like me. Knowing very well I make no money from music, anytime you play my music on radio or TV I got to get paid.

Big Brother Naija 2018 housemate, Tobi has finally spoken on his relationship with Alex.
When asked if he will date Alex, Tobi told Big Brother host, Ebuka during Sunday Live show that he would date her if she agrees to.

He said “I would not lie, I would date Alex if she wants to.

“We are friends at the moment Ebuka.”

Both housemates developed chemistry all through the week after Alex emerged head of house.

Recall that Alex saved Tobi with her chance card after all housemates were up for eviction.
