Impeachment prosecutors are
expected to wrap up their case
against ex -president Donald
Trump in the US Senate Thursday ,
backed by chilling footage that
showed senior politicians fleeing
for their lives during last month ’ s
assault on Congress .


The Democratic impeachment
managers will argue for a second
day that the riot was deliberately
incited by the former president ,
with an aim of reminding
senators , and watching
Americans , just how bad things
got on January 6 .


On Wednesday they walked
senators — many of them clearly
shaken — through hours of
graphic presentations and video ,
some of which came from
security cameras and police
bodycams and was being aired
for the first time .


The ensuing mayhem left five
people dead , including one
woman shot after she invaded the
Capitol and one policeman killed
by the crowd .


The episode occurred after Trump
told a rally near the White House
that his failure to win reelection
was due to vote rigging , but
Trump’ s defense lawyers , who
will present their arguments later
this week, say Trump cannot be
personally blamed for the riot
and that the entire trial is
unconstitutional because he has
already left office .


Video played on the Senate floor
Wednesday showed then vice
president Mike Pence — who was
in the Capitol to preside over
certification of Joe Biden ’ s defeat
of Trump — being hurried down
back stairs to safety by security
officers, along with his family .


Top Democratic senator Chuck
Schumer is seen narrowly
dodging a rampaging throng of
pro -Trump rioters . And Senator
Mitt Romney , a Republican who
often opposed Trump and was
turned into a hate figure by the
president , is seen being steered
away by an officer at the last
moment as an angry crowd
approaches.


In another segment , the mob can
be seen smashing into the offices
of Nancy Pelosi , speaker of the
House of Representatives and
another frequent target of
Trump’ s most violent rhetoric .
“Nancy , where are you Nancy ?”
protesters call out as they search ,
not knowing that eight of her
staff were barricaded behind a
door in the same corridor . Pelosi
herself had already been urgently
whisked away.


“We know from the rioters
themselves that if they had found
Speaker Pelosi, they would have

manager Stacey Plaskett, a House
delegate from the US Virgin
Islands.


The impeachment managers laid
out their case over several hours
arguing that the links are clear
between Trump, his lies about
election fraud, the violence , and
the then president ’ s inaction as
the riot unfolded .


Lead impeachment manager
Jamie Raskin said Trump
“completely abdicated ” his duty .
“Donald Trump surrendered his
role as commander - in-chief and
became the inciter -in- chief of a
dangerous insurrection , ” Raskin
said .


Republicans loyal so far
Holed up in his luxury Mar - a -
Lago club in Florida , Trump has
been gone from power for three
weeks.


But the trial has put the
flamboyant and deeply polarizing
Republican once more at the
center of the national
conversation — and underlined
his still -powerful hold over the
base of the Republican electorate .


Some Republican senators have
expressed disgust with the pro -
Trump riot, openly blasted
Trump’ s refusal to accept defeat
to Biden , and acknowledged the
compelling case made by the
Democrats with the aid of
extensive video — an
unprecedented development on
the Senate floor .


“The evidence that has been
presented thus far is pretty
damning, ” Republican senator
Lisa Murkowski said .


“Of course it ’ s powerful, ” Senator
Bill Cassidy, who with Murkowski
was among six Republicans in
supporting the trial’ s
constitutionality, said of the
chilling footage . But “ how that
influences final decisions remains
to be seen .”


It is highly unlikely that enough
Republicans will join the
Democrats to secure conviction in
the impeachment trial .
This requires a two- thirds
majority , meaning 17 Republicans
would need to go along with the
50 Democrats .


Forced off Twitter and other
social media platforms following
his unprecedented attempt to
foment a conspiracy theory about
his election defeat , Trump has
fewer outlets where he can vent .
But it is also believed that
advisors are pressing him to keep
back , fearing his reappearance
could turn Republican senators
against him .


According to US media reports,
Trump was privately furious on
the trial’ s opening day Tuesday at
what he saw as his own lawyers’
lackluster performance .


Unlike Trump’ s first impeachment
trial a year ago, which took three
weeks, this one is expected to be
over within days .

The Special Security
outfit, Operation
Akpakwu, set up by
Governor Ben Ayade of
Cross River have
busted a baby making
factory in Calabar
South.


At the factory located
at Usoro Street close
the Calabar south local
government secretariat
in Anantigha, the team
rescued 24 pregnant
girls, 11 children and
arrested two suspect's.


The two suspects are
couples just as the
children are between 6
months to 3 years old.
An official of the 13
Brigade Military Police,
Stanley Ikpeme, on
behalf of the Brigade
Commander Brigadier
General Muhammed
Abdullahi, handed over
the suspects, alongside
the pregnant girls and
children were handed
over to officials of the
National Agency for the
Prohibition of
Trafficking in Persons,
NAPTIP.


Speaking while receiving
the suspects, the head
of Operations NAPTIP,
Oba Jacob, said the
agency has the
responsibility to not
just prosecute but to
rehabilitate and
reintegrate the victims
back to the society.
He said the task of
eliminating child
trafficking and
Trafficking in Persons is
a collective one and
sought support from
the public.


“On behalf of my state
commander, I am
taking over the
suspects, the 24
victims and their kids
and will ensure the
victims and taken care
of and the suspects
properly prosecuted
after investigation.


“As an agency, we have
the responsibility to
arrest, prosecute, and
also counsel the
victims, rehabilitate and
reintegrate them into
the society.


“We implore members
of the public to
intimate us with any
information they have
about crimes like this
because we want to do
our to ensure we
reduce them to the
barest minimum if not
totally eradicated”, he
said.


One of the suspects
Fidelia Edem denied
knowledge of the
factory and called for
investigation.


Also speaking, one of
the pregnant girls
Grace said “my
husband pursued me
from the house when
he discovered I am
pregnant.


“A friend of man told
me about this place
that they will take care
of me till I deliver”, she
said.


Another girl, Loveth
said “they are taking
care of me and giving
me N2000 per week. I
went there because
they will take care of
me and I did not want
to abort the baby” she
said.

Former Minister of the
Federal Capital Territory
(FCT), Muhammed
Abba-Gana, has said
that Nigerians should
not blame the Fulani for
the farmers/herders
crises in the country.


He rather blamed the
system which
abandoned people to
live in an exclusive and
ancient culture for so
long.


The elder statesman
said the narrative
surrounding the Fulani
cattle herders is a
classic case of blaming
the victims.


One of the solutions to
the farmers/herders
crises, he said, is for
the far Northern states
to make aggressive
afforestation/
reforestation a priority
of their administrations.


He said: “In the north
there is large expanse
of lands, which can be
acquired, cleared and
used for RUGA, and
small agricultural dams
can be quickly built.


Boreholes can be
drilled. Schools for
nomadic education can
be built. It’s really time
to stop this ancient
culture of nomadic way
of life.


“As we in the North live
on about 75 per cent of
Nigeria’s landmass, it’s
not at all reasonable to
insist on using the
diminishing 25 per cent
of the land in the South
which they are now
resisting.”


He added: “Even this 25
per cent is threatened
by oil exploration, oil
spilling, ocean surge or
rising sea levels
because of climate
change, and also gully
erosion diminishes a lot
of available land.


“Also in the Northern
part as a result of
misplaced priorities and
absence of good
governance for a long
time, some of the
Northern states could
not stop the
devastating desert
encroachment in good
time.


“What we have now is
the consequence of
abandoning people to
live in an exclusive and
ancient culture for so
long. It’s unkind and
costly to allow such
culture to continue in
the 21st century and
become source of
political instability.”


“Most of them have not
even state or country
of origin let alone
getting any benefit,
security or welfare.


Even the nomadic
education started long
time ago, has failed
because it’s impossible
to have mobile schools,
mobile teachers and
without most of basic
amenities/utilities
available in normal
townships and villages.”


He explained that as
the population of the
world continues to
increase every year in
most countries of the
world, there is a lot of
pressure on available
land and fresh water
sources.


“ Land is needed for
housing, schools,
hospitals, industries,
farmlands, livestock
production etc., and
also water for both
domestic use and
agricultural crops
production and
livestock production
and industrial and
commercial use etc., It
is said that land and
water will be the new
sources of tension and
war among countries
and communities”, he
said.

The suspects who were arrested
following intelligence received by
the Commission are Okosun
Godspower, Imo Harry Hamilton,

Idoko Onakpa, Dogìo Samson,
Okukoje Godstime, Onuigbo
Julius and Osamulu Sunday .
