Arsenal striker Theo Walcott has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with the option of a 12-month extension. Under the new agreement that runs at least until the summer of 2016, the England international's salary will climb to around 90,000 pounds a week, which will be bolstered by top-up bonuses and a multi-million pound signing-on fee. Walcott has publicly indicated his desire to remain with the Gunners on numerous occasions, where he is popular with fans, staff and his team-mates. ... A major stumbling block in talks had been the player's desire to be given the chance to ply his trade as a central striker in the wake of Robin van Persie's departure, but Wenger has granted his wish in recent weeks. The Frenchman can now concentrate on improving his squad. Atletico Madrid striker Adrian and Wilfried Zaha are both likely targets, but Wenger has also this week admitted his interest in Napoli striker Edinson Cavani. Securing Walcott's future will be a huge boost to Arsenal after tying fellow Brits Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Carl Jenkinson to new five-year deals shortly before Christmas.

The ghanian head coach James Kwesi Appiah has claimed no team can be ignored at the Africa Cup of Nations ahead of Saturday's kick-off. The 29th edition of Africa's continental championships opens in South Africa on Saturday with the host nation taking on Cape Verde Islands at Soccer City. Ghana will play their first game on Sunday against the Democratic Republic of the Congo and while Appiah's side seem the obvious favourite to top Group B, the head coach remains convinced the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will tough from start to finish. "I believe that it's going to be very competitive," Appiah said. "We're going to do our best but saying that there's no way you can underrate any team in this competition. Just a few days to the Competition were are you making you cash for these period I am on www.NaijaBet.com what about you?

The former Barcelona boss has been appointed to take over at the Allianz Arena, ending month's of speculation over his future. Pep Guardiola will take over from Jupp Heynckes as Bayern Munich coach. The 41-year-old former Barca boss left Camp Nou in 2012 having won 14 trophies with the Liga side during his four seasons in charge and has signed a deal with the Bundesliga side until 2016. What does tells the Gunners against the febuary Champions league Clash?

The Gunners Boss is adamant that midfielder Jack Wilshere is not in need of a rest ahead of the FA Cup replay against Swansea Later Today. Wilshere, who until recently had been sidelined for 15 months with a series of injuries, has been involved in 16 of his side's 19 matches since his return to action at the end of October. While some observers have suggested the England international may be due a rest, his manager has claimed the 21-year-old's rate of improvement means this is unlikely to happen in the coming weeks. "At the moment I don't think he is overloaded because he just came back very recently, and you get the feeling he gets stronger, "I don't think at the moment I will rest him immediately, but it will happen. "Maybe not in this period, but at some stage I will do it. One month ago you could see he would have to fight with his body to get past people. Against Manchester City he looked comfortable to do that. "The expectation level is so high individually on players that they are not in a normal development, sometimes there is so much focus on them that I feel it is a handicap." Turning his thoughts towards Today's clash, Wenger admits his side will need to cope with their status as favourites far better than they did in the original tie, a 2-2 draw at the Liberty Stadium. "We have to deal with that pressure a little bit better," he said. "And not transform that desire into tension."

WHERE MAGIC MEETS LOGIC....DOES JUJU WORK IN MODERN AFRICAN FOOTBALL? Reviewing the issue of Black Magic in African Football as another AFCON Stands by, and argues it only for those who believe in it. spectator daubed in a club's colours and white chalk markings carrying earthenware in the inner parameter, a player inexplicably refusing to shake hands with an opponent in a pre-kick-off ritual, a team official sprinkling concoction on the field before a game, a cat being dug from underneath a football pitch that had apparently been buried alive and footballers tying white bands to their wrists or waving spotless handkerchiefs while coming onto the turf. Others include two clubs involved in a football game withholding a player each from entering onto the pitch until they had seen the opponent budge, and teams taking a different route to the Pitch. Africa is a continent with a past steeped deep in the worship of ancestral and traditional. beings, and vestiges still remain centuries after foreigners introduced Christianity and Islam. Belief in the supernatural is hardly limited to our part of the planet. Elsewhere in the world - even in the sophisticated sphere of European football - petty superstitions still hold valid for many, clubs, coaches, players and fans alike. Consulting diviners and psychics who operate with tarot cards and crystal balls are still in vogue, and many are those who care to indulge those services. Players personal omens abound too; Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has an incredible sequence of queer, uncanny rituals he follows prior to every one of his club’s games at Anfield, some of which he carries out right on the pitch. Gary Neville is known to have always donned the same set of clothing and aftershave when results were going his Manchester United’s way. Giovanni Trapattoni infamously sprinkled 'holy water' on the field when he was in charge of the Italian national team. Mario Gomez's fetish with the number three, and Laurent Blanc and Fabian Barthez's little kiss-on-the-pate act at France '98 Etc.......... In conclusion, one can say juju clearly is a powerful, inevitable co-efficient wherever football is played on the continent. Although the power it undoubtedly wields -whether emotional or otherwise - can never be underestimated, its potency can only be complemented, and in most cases, overcome by sheer hard work and physical ability. Juju alone on its own would not get a team anywhere. What do you think? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below............

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has expressed his belief that points deductions are the best way to combat racism in football. The issue of discrimination was brought to the fore again when Milan players walked from the pitch during a recent friendly clash with Pro Patria after Kevin-Prince Boateng suffered racial abuse. And the 76-year-old head of the world's football governing body has offered what he claims is a 'radical solution' to such behaviour. "I think we can never do enough to eradicate all the racism in football," Blatter told Reporters "We have already tried and you have given, in Great Britain, the best example of how to eradicate violence in football with the modern stadia, with the controls and education that this is the one thing. "I think a more radical solution would be deduction of points. Deduction of points would have a better impact on that than any other sanction." Blatter also moved to discourage a repeat of Boateng's protest, describing taking such action as 'running away' from the problem. "Already to have a match played without spectators is a warning, it's a warning for all the spectators but the situation is now as such, you remember the Boateng problem, running away," he added. "I made a comment on that and I still have the same feeling, it was good what he has done in order to give this impact by saying, 'listen, look at what has happened', but it can't be the solution. "It can't be the solution because you can never solve any problem in your life, being in private life, in economic life, wherever, by running away. "This is a good sign, it's a good sign, to now say listen, if you don't take care now of our sport they will do it."

Chelsea captain John Terry is closing in on a first-team return and could be involved at Stoke this weekend, interim manager Rafael Benitez has revealed. The 32-year-old has not featured for the Blues since the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on November 11 following a collision with Luis Suarez. Terry had been expected to be out for three weeks but is only now closing in on a return two months on. The centre-back is due to face Fulham with Chelsea's Under-21 team on Thursday evening, which Benitez admits could see him return to the first team at Stoke on Saturday. ``John Terry has been training and we are considering playing him on Thursday with the Under-21 team,'' the Spaniard said. ``The good thing he is now training so now he can carry on. We will see how he feels on Thursday and hopefully he can play more minutes in the short-term so we will see. ``At least that is a positive thing because before he was just doing the warm-up. Now he is training and can play so I think we are obviously closer.'' Asked if he could be involved against Stoke, he added: ``It depends on his reaction. Obviously Thursday will be a different kind of game but we will see how he feels. ``If he can feel okay and train the day after, at least we can start considering him as an option.'' The Capital One Cup semi-final with Swansea will come too soon for the Chelsea captain, though. Terry will be joined on the sidelines by Petr Cech, while Victor Moses and John Obi Mikel are also unavailable for the first leg at Stamford Bridge. ``We want to win all the games,'' Benitez said. ``In any club it is important but especially when you are challenging and fighting for trophies. ``We know it is the semi-final and we will try to be in the final. We have a lot of respect for Swansea because it is a good team and they are doing well, but this will be an interesting game for the fans.'' Meanwhile, Michael Laudrup believes his Swansea side will benefit from being on the road in the first leg of the semi-final as they chase a first appearance at a major Wembley final. Given Bradford and Aston Villa are the other sides left in the competition, Swansea fans could be forgiven for cursing their luck when they drew Benitez's Blues in the last four. The Swans have never previously got to this stage of the League Cup, although they did reach the last four of the FA Cup in 1964, although there will be few expecting them to triumph over two legs against a Chelsea squad including Demba Ba, Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Frank Lampard. But Swansea have a good home record against the Premier League big guns and have twice drawn 1-1 with the Blues at the Liberty Stadium, but their only visit to Stamford Bridge since returning to the top-flight ended in a 4-1 defeat. Laudrup knows a repeat scoreline on Wednesday night would effectively end the tie, but is excited at the prospect of being able to bring the Blues back to south Wales with the tie still in the balance. He said: ``I always preferred being away first in these games. I have done both as a manager and a player and if I had to choose I would prefer to play away first. ``The different thing is it is not a complete game, it is only the first half and we play the second half here in two weeks' time. ``It is difficult to play a game when you know you have another one to come, but we know it is important to get a result so we can play the second leg here in front of our fans with the possibility to go through. ``It will be difficult, we know that. To beat Chelsea in one game is difficult, over two games it is even more difficult. ``But we have to give it a try, and we will give it a try and I hope the confidence we have built up in recent weeks can help us.'' Gerhard Tremmel is set to start in goal. The German has played throughout the run to the last four and Laudrup feels Tremmel has earned the right to keep his place ahead of Michel Vorm. Angel Rangel should be available after a calf problem, while Pablo Hernandez, Ashley Williams and Michu should all return to the starting line-up. http://espnfc.com/en/preview/358613/preview.html?soccernet=true&cc=3888

Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi has voiced his delight and surprise with his fourth consecutive Ballon d'Or win. The Argentina international was over the moon as he finished ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta to once more win the Ballon d'Or in Zurich on Monday night. Messi netted an impressive 91 goals throughout 2012 to break numerous records, thus earning himself 41.6 per cent of the votes, whereas runner-up Cristiano Ronaldo had to settle for 23.68 per cent. "To tell you the truth this is really quite unbelievable. The fourth award that I have had is just too great for words," Messi said upon receiving his trophy. "I would like to recognise my other colleagues from Barcelona: Iniesta it has been great to train and play alongside you. I would also like to recognise all of my friends in the Argentinean national team. "Everyone that has worked with me coaches and staff and my family and my friends."Also my wife and my son. Thank you." Messi said there was no rivalry between himself and Ronaldo and that his only aim was to win trophies for his club and country. "Yes, like Ronaldo has also said, we are not competing with each other," Messi added. "We play to try to win titles, in the end that is what we work for, and nothing else. "I never compete [directly] against him. I always try my best, to help my national team, my team , and to keep growing, nothing else. A World Cup crown is one title still absent from Messi's trophy cabinet, but the 25-year-old said he will be hoping to change that in the coming years. "There is a lot of time left until the next World Cup - even at the moment we haven’t qualified," he said. "It's true Argentina have changed recently. Now we get good results and we are playing good football, better than in previous years. "We are happy now but we have to be patient because we need to grow up as a team, but the World Cup is far away."
