SportsRohr: Poland, Nigeria Will Benefit From Friendly; Uzoho Will Start by solbase10(op): 12:15pm On Mar 23, 2018
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr believes both his side and Poland will benefit immensely from Friday’s international friendly in Wroclaw, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

The Eagles will officially kickoff preparations for the 2018 FIFA World Cup when they face the Poles, who will also be in Russia, from 8.45pm Friday night.

After the game in Poland, the Eagles will then leave for London to face Serbia in another friendl.

Speaking at a press conference, Rohr stated why Poland picked the Eagles for a friendly.

“We know very well the Senegalese team who play good football, they have a strong team,” Rohr said during his pre-match press conference on Thursday night.

“I suppose we are invited because they (Poland) are playing Senegal (at the World Cup). And we and Senegal are the only two black African teams at the World Cup, the other three African teams (Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco) are from North Africa.

“It will be good preparation for Poland but also for us because Croatia has very high level. And we play Serbia next Tuesday in London so we have two good preparation games for the World Cup.”

Rohr also revealed that young Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Uzoho will make his first start for the Super Eagles in the game against Poland.

Uzoho made his first appearance for the Eagles when he came on for Daniel Akpeyi in the 4-2 win against Argentina on November 14, 2017.

SportsMan United Form Pro Women’s Team, Apply For Spot In Women’s League by solbase10(op): 4:29pm On Mar 22, 2018
Premier League giants Manchester United have confirmed they are finally forming their first-ever professional women’s team.
The announcement was made on United’s official website on Thursday.

Clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool all have women’s teams who compete in both local and international competitions.

Old Trafford chiefs have now applied for an FA licence to take the historic step of launching their own women’s side who would however feature in the second division of the Women’s Super League (WSL).

A statement on United’s website reads: “Manchester United has submitted an application to the Football Association to establish a professional women’s team in the second tier of the Women’s Super League.

“If successful, the move would provide a career pathway for players who graduate from the long-established and highly successful Girls’ Regional Talent Club, which has seen some 15 of its graduates playing international football this season alone.

“The squad would be based at the club’s historic training centre at The Cliff.”

Announcing the move, United’s vice-chairman Ed Woodward said: “We are pleased to announce that the club intends to establish its first ever professional women’s team and has submitted an application to enter WSL2.

“The FA has provided excellent support through the process and we believe that launching a team in WSL2 would give many more of our graduates from the Regional Talent Club the chance to establish themselves as first-team players.

“The Manchester United women’s team must be built in the same image and with the same principles as the men’s first team and offer academy players a clear route to top-level football within the club.

SportsRohr To Test Iheanacho In Mikel Role Vs Poland As Eagles Change Formation by solbase10(op): 4:14pm On Mar 22, 2018
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr will hand Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho the No.10 role, usually played by Mikel Obi, in the Super Eagles starting line-up when they face Poland in an international friendly on Friday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Mikel will miss the encounter billed for the Municipal Stadium in Wroclaw as he is battling to renew his work permit in China, where he featured for Tianjin Teda, but he is expected to join up with the squad in London for the game against Serbia on Tuesday.

According to a camp source, Iheanacho has been playing off centre forward Odion Ighalo in a 4-2-3-1 formation in training and he the Leicester star is expected to keep his place for the World Cup friendly.

“Iheanacho will play Mikel’s position against Poland barring any last minute tactical switch,” the source, a member of the squad, told CSN.

“That’s his preferred role and I think he will do well there. He is solid and quick in his decision making.”

The 21-year-old Iheanacho is expected the most advanced midfield ahead of the deeper central midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Ogenyi Onazi for the game.

In the Super Eagles last game against Argentina, Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi were paired in attack as Gernot Rohr deployed a 3-5-2 formation.

The former Manchester City forward curled in a brilliant free-kick as Nigeria came from a goal down to beat Argentina 4-2 at the Krasnodar Stadium in Russia last November.

SportsPoland Assistant Coach: Strong Super Eagles Good Test For World Cup Clash Vs Sen by solbase10(op): 3:38pm On Mar 22, 2018
Poland assistant coach and head of data bank, Hubert Malowiejski, says coming up against three-time African champions Nigeria will give the side a clue of what to expect when they face Senegal in their Group H at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.

The Poles will intensify their preparations ahead of the mundial with the clash against Gernot Rohr’s men at the Municipal Stadium, Wroclaw on Friday.

Paired in the same World Cup as the Senegalese as well as Japan and Colombia, Malowiejski stated that facing a strong team like the Super Eagles will aid the team’s preparation ahead of the me mundial.

“Everyone is looking for strong rivals, because those are the teams that we will meet at the World Cup,” Malowiejski told www.laczynapilka.pl.

“Secondly, they (Nigeria) play almost the same style with Senegal, one of our group opponents in Russia.

“Nigeria is a strong team, from the African continent and is a team with players who have
similar characteristics and tactical similarity with Senegal.

“There are differences in the set-up of both teams but we will look at the details first.

” The opponent is a necessary condition to draw conclusions for the World Cup. The foreground is always our team, our assumptions to be implemented.

“If there are few players missing in the Nigeria team nothing will happen, but that does not change anything in our preparations.”

SportsHigh Praise For “outstanding” Aminu From Portland Blazers Coach, Teammate by solbase10(op): 11:19am On Mar 22, 2018
Portland Trail Blazers head coach, Terry Stotts has praised Al Farouq Aminu for his outstanding performance in their 115-111 loss to the Houston Rockets.

Aminu set a new personal record in the NBA on Wednesday for the most three points scored in a single game in the defeat.

The 26 year old scored six 3-pointers in the game, four of them coming in the first quarter. In all, the D’Tigers star racked up 22 points, eight rebounds and four assist for the Blazers who suffered their 27th defeat of the season.

“I thought it was disappointing to lose, but I thought we really competed,” he added.

Aminu’s teammate CJ McCollum who accounted for just eight points, three assists and two rebounds in 34 minutes in the defeat to the Rockets also told NBA.com: “He (Aminu) was great. He was aggressive, knocked down shots; hit some big three’s for us.”

SportsJoshua Vows To Knock Out Parker, Considers MMA Switch by solbase10(op): 12:19pm On Mar 20, 2018
World heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has expressed confidence that he will knock out World Boxing Organization (WBO) champion Joseph Parker on March 31 in Cardiff, Wales.

British boxer with Nigerian blood Joshua, 28, will put his World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) titles on the line when he squares up against New Zealand’s undefeated world heavyweight champion Parker.

Aside from Parker, Joshua who is yet to taste defeat after 20 fights, is also touted to take on World Boxing Council (WBC) holder Deontay Wilder.

As the 2012 British Olympic gold medalist prepares for his title defence, he said he is confident that all he has learnt in training will give him the edge.

“Joseph Parker is dedicated and I’m going to see him at 50 per cent better than I have before,” Joshua told The Sun.

“What I’ve learnt is that boxing is simplified when you incorporate your feet. Even though it’s a game of punching people, your feet get you in and out of range.

“If I can transform what I’ve learnt in the gym for the last ten or 12 weeks to the ring, hopefully I can get him out of there between six and eight.”

And when asked if he would seriously consider a crossover from boxing to Mix Martial Art (MMA), Joshua said:

“A good scrap would be with the guy from Congo [Francis Ngannou] who just lost recently. Big unit — that would be a good scrap.

“Yeah of course, obviously I’d have to have a couple of warm up fights because you have to learn the submissions and stuff.

“But, yeah, a fight is a fight at the end of the day. So yeah man, I’d do it.”

SportsHiguain: Spain, Italy Good Test Argentina’s W/cup Preparations by solbase10(op): 4:39pm On Mar 19, 2018
Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain reckons the upcoming international friendlies against Spain and Italy will reveal La Albiceleste’s true potentials ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup which kicks off in Russia in June.

Higuain, recalled to the Argentina squad after missing their last seven games told Mundo Albiceleste that he’s delighted to be back in the fold and looking forward to the challenge.

“I enjoy the national team and there are still important challenges.”

On how far Argentina can go at the World Cup, the 30 year old former Juventus striker added: “With humility, but we aspire to win everything, but first the two friendlies of this month and then to think about the World Cup. It’s time to be calm.

SportsLukaku Defends Sanchez, Claims Ex-arsenal Star Will Deliver For Manchester Unite by solbase10(op): 3:30pm On Mar 19, 2018
Romelu Lukaku opened scoring for Manchester United in their 2-0 win over Brighton on Saturday night for his 25th goal of the season and also leapt to the defence of under-fire team-mate Alexis Sanchez, who was an unused substitute in the FA Cup clash.

Sanchez has only scored once in 10 appearances for United – against Huddersfield Town in February – since his high-profile transfer from Arsenal.
“As long as he keeps working hard like he does, I think he’ll come good for us,” the Belgium international added. “He is a quality player with a lot of assets.

“Look at my situation. I started really well and then had the dry spell in November and December. But at the end of the day with hard work you are always going to get through it.”

Lukaku also claimed Manchester United are planning for a big off-season which will see “a lot of good players” moving to Old Trafford in 2018-19.

“We are Manchester United, we have to improve every year and I know that a lot of players, a lot of good players, will come in next season. That’s for sure,” said Lukaku.

“That is something I look forward to, in order to improve the squad, and what the manager also looks forward to because next year we have to win.

“We will have to try and win as many trophies as we can.”

SportsREVEALED! How Poland Coach Nawalka Worked In Nigeria; Reasons He Endorsed Super by solbase10(op): 11:55am On Mar 19, 2018
There is one reason Poland coach, Adam Nawalka, wanted to play Nigeria before their opening match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia aginst Senegal – sheer sentiment, he has big admiration for Nigerian football, Complete Sports’ correspondence in Poland writes.

Not many Nigerians knew that Nawalka has once ‘worked’ in Nigeria. Not Many knew that he is an astute fan of Nigerian football Here is the detail…

Anthony Egwuatu is a medical doctor – a gynecologist and endocrinologist, with two offices in Krakow and Kalwaria in Southern Poland. The Igbo man came to Poland 20 years ago, completed his medical study in Gdansk and stayed over here permanently.

Egwuatu is a doctor with good reputation, respect and esteem. However, his love is football. As a teeneger, he used to play in Lagos, but later decided to further his education. But his love for football stayed.

Living in Poland, he participated in some transfers of Nigerian footballers over here, and living in Krakow presented him with the opportunity of meeting Adam Nawalka, the current Poland head coach.

Nawalka and Zbigniew Boniek – one of the best Polish footballers in history and the present Polish Football Association (PZPN) president, were wonderful talents of the Polish football in in the 70s.

Nawalka represented Poland at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina alongside Boniek, playing five of the team’a six matches there. Although very talented, he couldn’t manage to make such a great career as Boniek’s due to the serious injuries he suffered.

He played for Wisla Krakow for several years and a few years in the USA. He later did football coaching training and became a coach.

Invitation to Nigeria

In 1999, Nawalka, as a Wisla Krakow’s scout, was invited to Nigeria by Dr. Anthony Egwuatu. His task was to comb Nigeria and find a decent striker for the top Polish club.

“He was a guest of my family and I must say that he was adored by everybody. My mum, till today, asks me, how is Adam?,” smiles Egwuatu.
The medical doctor adds, “He (Nawalka) was fluent in English, open-minded, friendly and easily made friends during his stay in Nigeria. He spent really good time in Nigeria. Of course, it was not a holiday, he came to Nigeria to spot talented players.”
.
During his stay in Nigeria, Nawalka started with the careful studying of daily newspapers. He asked his Nigerian friend for some dailies everyday as he searched for useful information that could help him make headway in his assignment.

Spotting Talented Nigerian Footballers

At that time, one of the best scorers in the Nigerian league was Kelechi Iheanacho (not the current Leicester City forward) from Enyimba of Aba.

Kelechi Iheanacho who still lives in Poland after retiring from football, takes up the story:
“As far as I know, Adam Nawalka found out in one of the newspapers that I was scoring lots of goals. He came to see me in action in Aba. That’s how Wisla Krakow later gave me a proposal to play for them,” says Iheanacho.

Iheanacho was later transferd to Poland from Julius Berger FC and started playing for Wisla Krakow in 1999.

Iheanacho adds: “Mr Nawalka was a very positive person, and he stood by me and my transfer to Poland. I spent a few years in Krakow before injury stopped me.

“And even though being injuried, Nawalka kept me as a coach at the club. He was a very open-minded person who was eager to learn. At that time, not many Polish people spoke English well like him. He was different,” recalls Iheanacho, who is now in football business while living in Poland capital, Warsaw, partnering with football agents and travelling a lot.

Nawalka moved around a lot too within Nigeria during his visit in March 1999. He went to Onitsha, where he met Chief Jude Ezechukwu (late), Jasper United president at that time.

This writer, as a journalist, had an opportunity to meet Chief Ezechukwu in 2005, during his stay in Nigeria, on the invitation of his close friend, Vincent Alumona, currently the owner of the sports business outfit, Krakovia Sports Ltd.

Chief Jude Ezechukwu, as Jasper United president, transfered some of the best Nigerian footballers to the Polish league at that time. In 1997, he transfered Kenneth Zeigbo to Legia Warsaw and Emmanuel Olisadebe – who later became a top striker of the Polish national team, to Polonia Warszawa. Eight years later Chief Ezechukwu complained in his office at Ajao Estate Lagos, that he still was not paid for those transfers – sometimes, a part and parcel of football business.

Poland’s Test Before Senegal

Dr. Anthony Egwuatu recalls that in 1999, Nawalka spoted some other Nigerian talents. Among them was Justice Christopher.

“Nawalka had an eye for the talented footballars. As far as I remember, he chose five players, who later played for the Super Eagles, among them was Justice Christopher, who later played for another Easter European club, Levski Sofia. It’s a pity that they didn’t play in Poland,” Egwuatu states.

The Nigerian medical doctor is still a friend of the Poland head coach and keeps in touch with him. Andv he knows how much invaluable the Super Eagles friendly is to Nawalka before he leads Poland out in Russia to face an African opposition in Senegal.

“When Poland drew Senegal in the World Cup and it was known that their first match will be against the African team, Adam opted for playing against Nigeria in a friendly, the country he likes a lot,” Egwuatu explains.

“That trip in 1999 was a great experience for Nawalka, leaving lots of good memories. He is very happy to have the Super Eagles now for a very important pre-World Cup friendly match. ”

SportsMessi: 2018 Is My Last Chance To Win The World Cup by solbase10(op): 11:38am On Mar 19, 2018
Argentina star Lionel Messi is aware time is fast running out on his international career and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia may be his last chance to win a senior international title.

In an incredible career in which he’s won virtually every title including five Ballon d’Or gongs, a senior title with the Albiceleste is the only chink in his shining armour.

Argentina have been three-time Copa America runners-up and also lost the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil in Messi’s 12 years with the senior team.

The 30-year-old is now desperate to go one better in Russia, with his team having been beaten by Germany in extra time in Rio de Janeiro four years ago.

“We feel that, if we won’t win the World Cup in Russia, the only way will be to give up the national team,” Messi told La Cornisa on Sunday.

“I dream of winning the trophy in Russia. My wish is to live something similar to Brazil 2014.

“You can do everything OK and fail, like Argentina in Brazil.”

Argentina are considered favourites in a World Cup preliminary group which has Iceland, Croatia and Nigeria in Group D.

Sports7 Super Eagles Who Must Use Poland, Serbia Friendlies To Prove They Deserve Worl by solbase10(op): 12:21pm On Mar 16, 2018
Junior Ajayi (Al Ahly, Egypt)

Junior Ajayi has developed so quickly in the Egyptian league playing for Al Ahly such that the 23 year old striker will be itching to make his debut and remind everyone of his value at the biggest stage for the Super Eagles.

The former CS Sfaxien forward missed a great chance to show his capabilities at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil due to injury, but for the games against Poland and Serbia whether he gets a role as a striker or a cameo on the wings, Ajayi will need to underline his credentials to Gernot Rohr and show he has a lot in him to lead the lines for the Super Eagles.

Joel Obi (Torino, Italy)

After battling several spells on the sidelines due to his injuries, Obi will have the chance to prove he deserves his place again in the Super Eagles.

The Torino midfielder is currently having his best season in the Italian Serie A with Torino since he made his debut eight years ago. Obi missed Torino’s defeat to AS Roma due to a suspected hamstring injury and it remains to be seen if he will feature in the friendly matches.

The 26-year-old will be a vital cog in the wheel for the Super Eagles midfield at the World Cup, if he stays fit. So, a decent game in the friendlies will definitely put him back in the frame for a place in Nigeria’s World Cup squad.

Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow)

Since dropping down the pecking order in the Super Eagles squad, Ahmed Musa has played second fiddle to the trio of Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi and Moses Simon.

With Moses, Iwobi and Simon preferred to the Russia-based winger in the Super Eagles starting lineup, a good performance in the games against Poland and Serbia will put Musa back in reckoning for a place in the starting lineup for the three-time African champions.

Brian Idowu (Amkar Perm, Russia)

Super Eagles left back Elderson Echiejile missed the game against Argentina and that gave Ola Aina and Brian Idowu an opportunity to showcase themselves playing in the left wing back role. Idowu capped his debut appearance with a goal, which gave the Super Eagles a 3-2 lead in the international friendly which Nigeria eventually won.

The FC Amkar Perm defender will be hoping to prove his mettle with the return of the first choice left back Echiejile and Ola Aina also in the squad. Idowu has scored once in 21 league games in the Russian topflight division. A fine performance in the friendlies may just make Rohr and his technical teams ponder about handing him a chance in the World Cup bound team.

Eze Stephen (Lokomotiv Plovdiv, Bulgaria)

Eze Stephen’s performance at the African Nations Championship gave him a rare chance in the main Super Eagles team and he must now grab the opportunity with both hands to hold on to his spot.

Even if the Home Eagles lost in two finals – the West African Football Union Nations (WAFU) tournament and the African Nations Championship, Eze’s form for the team earned him a place in the team of the tournament.

He will be up against the likes of Kenneth Omeruo, Uche Agbo and Chidozie Awaziem for the final two centre-back spots in the team for the World Cup.

Okechukwu Gabriel (Akwa United)

In 2015, Okechukwu Gabriel made the headlines after he was named on the substitute’s bench for the Super Eagles in an African Nations qualifier against Chad in Kaduna and he was handed the iconic No. 10 jersey by the late Stephen Keshi.

Three years on, the 22 year old Akwa United striker has developed very well but there is no guarantee that he will have a place in Nigeria’s preliminary squad for the World Cup.

With several players in the squad capable of playing as a backup striker to the team’s first choice, Gabriel will have to take his chance if he is to be assured of a spot in the team.

Odion Ighalo is already guaranteed of a spot for the World Cup barring any severe injury, the final spot for a striker currently in the team is a fight between Junior Ajayi and Gabriel.

So it’s safe to say that an impressive performance for the Super Eagles will however mean that the 22-year-old is all but guaranteed at least another chance in the team for the next friendly against DR Congo in May.

Uche Agbo (Standard Liege, Belgium)

Uche Agbo has not featured for the Super Eagles since he has been receiving invitation to the team. Getting an opportunity to play will give him a chance to prove his place in the team.

SportsFIBA Order Fresh Elections Into Crisis-ridden NBBF Board by solbase10(op): 11:20am On Mar 16, 2018
Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) have called for a fresh election into the board of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Crisis in the NBBF began last year when two factional leaders Musa Kida and Tijani Umar emerged as President from two separate elections.

Kida emerged as President of the NBBF in the general elections into all sports federations in Nigeria organised by the Nigerian sports ministry at the Grand Ibro Hotel, Abuja and supervised by the Nigeria Olympic Committee Secretary, Tunde Popoola, and a sports ministry director Hauwa Kulu.

Umar, on his part, emerged President of the NBBF from an election held in Kano a day prior to the general election held in Abuja.

According to a letter signed by FIBA’s Secretary General, Patrick Bauman, and addressed to NBBF secretary, Chimezie Asiegbu, Musa Kida, Tijani Umar and the Nigeria Olympic Committee, FIBA noted that both elections in Kano and Abuja respectively failed to meet the general statutes of the global body.

The letter stated that the election held in Kano on the 12th of June, 2017 which ushered Umar as President did not comply with the article 9.3 of the FIBA statutes.

While the election in Abuja that saw Kida take over the reins failed to adhere to article 9.7 of the FIBA statutes.

“The statutes and regulation of national members must comply with the General statutes and Internal Regulations of FIBA,” the letter from FIBA noted.

In particular they must ensure that their officials are either elected or appointed under a democratic process for a term of office for four (4) years. SportsScholes Blasts Mourinho, United Players After UCL Exit, Wants Sanchez Dropped by solbase10(op): 12:30pm On Mar 15, 2018
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has slammed Jose Mourinho and the team for the UEFA Champions League defeat to Sevilla while advising the manager to drop Alexis Sanchez.

United were knocked out of the competition on Tuesday night after a shock 2-1 home defeat to Sevilla sent the Spanish side through to the quarter-finals 2-1 on agreggate.

The Red Devils had only four shots on target over the two legs, which Mourinho dismissed as ‘just statistics’. But Scholes claimed the two performances were indicative of the Portuguese’s reign.

“That’s the way the manager likes to play, on the counter-attack,” Scholes, who has been attacked by Mourinho for criticising United midfielder Paul Pogba, said on television after the match.

“It was difficult watching that and the first game. There is no desire, no energy, no speed. It’s unexplainable. Teams go and try. United didn’t try and win the game away from home.

“Surely the manager must see Sanchez’s not been good enough. He doesn’t know his best front three. He needs to choose his best and leave Sanchez out.”

Sanchez joined United from Arsenal in January in exchange for Henrikh Mkhitaryan but the Chilean has struggled.

However, Mourinho has insisted on starting Sanchez in all of United’s important games while leaving out either Juan Mata, Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford.

SportsCourtois: We Lost To Barcelona Due To Individual Errors by solbase10(op): 10:49am On Mar 15, 2018
Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has admitted that individual errors could be attributed to their 3-0 loss to Barcelona in the second-leg round of 16 UEFA Champions League clash at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night.

Courtois was nutmegged twice by Lionel Messi either side of Ousmane Dembele’s rifling shot for a comprehensive victory for the Catalans.

The win saw Barcelona progress into the quarter-finals 4-1 on aggregate after the first-leg ended 1-1.

“Individual mistakes cost us in both legs,” the Belgian told Chelsea official website. “For the first goal, I didn’t expect the shot from Messi, and I was too late to close my legs, so it’s a mistake on my part and it’s not nice to start the evening like that. The others were missed passes and we paid for them, they scored from our mistakes.

“Apart from that we defended well, tried to play well and we had chances. We hit the [woodwork] twice, it was a bit unlucky but the individual mistakes cost us. We have to be honest about that, continue working and try to win on Sunday in the FA Cup because that’s the only silverware we might get this season.”

Courtois admitted Wednesday night was not the first time he would be nutmegged by Messi, that he had conceded goals like that from the Argentine during his time at Atletico Madrid.

He said:”Obviously I played against him a lot of times and conceded goals through my legs from him before. A goalkeeper like me, I am two metres, it’s maybe the weakest part, because there is always a space between.

“It’s annoying but I have to come out, say I made a mistake, I made some good saves as well, and it’s unlucky to go out to goals from mistakes. We just have to work hard and continue.”

SportsNeymar Senior: My Son Needs Surgery To Fix Broken Foot by solbase10(op): 3:35pm On Feb 28, 2018
Neymar Senior, the father of Brazil superstar, Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, has disclosed that his son need an operation to repair his broken foot, despite Paris Saint-Germain boss, Unai Emery insisting on Tuesday that his star man would not go under the knife.

The 26-year-old suffered a broken metatarsal and sprained ankle during Sunday’s 3-0 Ligue 1 win over their arch-rivals Marseille and was in tears as he was carried off at the Parc de Princes.

Emery alleged Neymar could have a ‘small chance’ of playing against Real Madrid in their Champions League last 16 second leg next Tuesday, but the Brazilian’s father has labelled that assertion ‘absurd’.

‘Yes, of course, he is is out against Real Madrid,’ Neymar Snr told ESPN Brazil .

‘It is absurd if anybody thinks otherwise. At the end of April, Neymar will be able to play football.

‘We are waiting for the (Brazilian national team’s) doctor to arrive, he will have a meeting with the club.

‘PSG already know that they will not be able to count on Neymar for at least six weeks because of this treatment.’

The latest development is in complete contrast to what PSG manager Emery had to say on Tuesday after he quashed rumours that his star man required surgery.

‘The information that Neymar will be operated is false,’ Emery told a news conference ahead of Wednesday’s French Cup quarter-final against Marseille.

‘I spoke with the doctor on Tuesday morning and he explained to me what the exams revealed. I also talked about it with (PSG sports director) Antero Henrique, the president and the player.

‘Neymar is the first who wants to play every game, for Real Madrid, he is very focused. I think there is a small chance for him to be ready for the match.’

SportsEssential Tips Beginner Golfers Need To Know by solbase10(op): 11:14am On Feb 28, 2018
Beginner golf players can often feel like they’re being plunged into a world where they have a lot to learn! If you’re a beginner player then we’re here to help you with some helpful steps to start you off…

Learning the Rules

The rules of golf really aren’t that tricky to get started with, but there are a few subtleties that you want to be aware of too. There’s also an element of etiquette to get to grips with, if you miss out on this then you might end up offending someone or even getting thrown off the green!

Take the time to understand the rules and regulations around the game is essential, there’s a bit more to learn than just taking your turn at the right time! Treat your caddies with respect and other players too, then you’ll get a good name for yourself around the courses

Some courses will also have local rules that will be displayed on their scorecard. Take a quick check and you’ll make sure you’re playing the way they want you to. If you travel to quite a few golf courses then this is a must!

Keep up the Pace

If you’re playing with others, then it’s only polite to keep up the pace. This is not only an etiquette thing, it’s also better for your own game. The more games you can fit in on a regular basis, the better you’ll get and you can’t always spend a long time at each hole.

You don’t need to rush though! You can still take your time and line up your shots the way you want, if you fall behind then you can allow the previous party to go ahead of you.

Pick your Equipment Wisely

Just because equipment is expensive, this doesn’t mean it’s good quality. If you’re new to buying golf equipment then use a trusted online dealer like The Golf Warehouse who will give you all the information you need to make a decision. New players might feel like they’ve got a lot of equipment and clothes to buy, but if you use deals and online stores like TGW you can make it a lot easier for yourself.

Staying up to Date

There are changes within the golf world that you’ll want to stay abreast of. The rules do change slightly over time, with play times and certain official rules changed. This doesn’t change the game in its entirety, but you may find that a play you were using prior becomes illegal after the change.

While courses don’t tend to caution their players, if you wanted to take part in a competitive game or tournament than you would need to know about this. Plus you can even educate your fellow golfers if you notice them doing something that has since been outlawed. Most golfers will be happy to hear from someone in the loop!

Golf is a really rewarding sport, so it’s great to get involved. If you love the outdoors and sports, then why not find a course near you?
