Senate President Bukola Saraki has called for an open and comprehensive investigation into the unwarranted search of Chief Edwin Clark’s Abuja home by the police.

Saraki while reacting to the incident on Tuesday, described it as “unwarranted harassment of the statesman” who is known for being very vocal in expressing his views on national issues.

He also stated that the incident must not be allowed to be covered up without the public knowing all the details, particularly concerning who gave the order, who signed the police search warrant, which officers executed it and what objective was it meant to serve.

“Chief Edwin Clark, a Second Republic Senator, a former minister under the General Gowon administration is not just anybody. Yes, he is not above the law. If there is a genuine reason for his home to be searched by law enforcement agencies, nobody will object to it. However, as it now appears, for the Police to conduct a raid on the home of a man of that age on the pretense that they were looking for arms and eventually, the claim turned out to be a hoax, then something must be amiss.

“This type of action by the Police coming at this time when the nation is preparing for election is not reflecting well on the country. Such actions constitute a threat to democracy. They represent a gross abuse of state institutions. Now that the Inspector General of Police has denied that the raid was never authorized, the next move should be a thorough, transparent investigation into the Senator Edwin Clark incident to prevent future occurrence.

“This kind of ugly development must stop. This country experienced a peaceful change in 2015 because the government in power allowed democracy to work. If the government had allowed the flagrant abuse and misuse of state institutions to be the norm, we would not have had the change that occurred”, he stated.

Saraki noted that incidents like the one in the home of Chief Clark are in conflict with the promise the government made to these world leaders.

Multiple media reports confirm that Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich has put the club up for sale with a price tag of more than £2billion following his dispute with the Government in recent months over his visa status.
The figure demanded for Chelsea would smash the world record fee for the sale of a football club If a buyer summons up the cash it would nearly triple the most expensive takeover in history which is currently the Glazer family’s £790million purchase of Manchester United in 2006.

According to The Sunday Times, The Raine Group has been hired to assist with the deal and will seek interest from China, the US and the Middle East. The investment bank also helped Manchester City’s Abu Dhabi owners to flog a 13 per cent stake to Chinese investors for £1.9billion three years ago.

Abramovich, 51, is said to have rejected a £2billion bid for his club from Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe earlier this year. The Russian, who has an estimated fortune of £9billion, recently acquired Israeli citizenship amid his visa row in Britain.

The Nigerian Air Force says it has killed 30 suspected armed bandits terrorising different villages in Zamfara State.

The Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday also said that the camps of the bandits were destroyed following several air strikes.

“The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Air Task Force (ATF) for Operation Diran Mikiya, on successfully executed air strikes that destroyed more armed bandit camps in Daji Bawar and Sunke villages in Zamfara State.

“The strikes were planned on the heels of intelligence reports indicating that some bandits who had survived the intensive air assaults on their various hideouts had relocated to Anka Local Government Area of the state”, the statement said.

He explained that the ATF embarked on an intensive Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission to confirm the exact location of their new camps.

The Air Commodore said that the armed bandits pitched their tents at Daji Bawar and Sunke villages but with the help of two helicopters, about 30 of them were killed.

He added, “Troops of sector 3 operation Sharan Daji later confirmed that over 30 armed bandits were neutralized while many others suffered injuries.”

He further stated that the ATF would continue to dominate the area to ensure normalcy returns to the state.

Nigerian singer, Kelly Hansome, had many doubting him when he recently accused Don Jazzy of locking him up for doing a cover of a song. He however insisted and challenged the Mavin Boss to speak out if he was lying.

In a chat with Sunday Scoop, he stated that he didn’t have the intention to reveal the information but all he said was true.

He said:

“It was when Don Jazzy arrested me that I met the soldier I mentioned in my post. I wanted to wish him a happy birthday and I remembered the event. I guess people were surprised because they felt Don Jazzy could not do such.

Why would you lock up your brother for doing a cover of a song. The track was titled, I’m Feeling Good, by 2baba featuring D’banj, while Don Jazzy produced it. If he is proud of what he did, he should respond.”
