Please can you suggest a good pre emergent herbicide for maize for me?

I intend to apply it before sowing

You can try Lagon, it's a good pre emergency herbicide for maize and cassava, when applied properly, you can be assured of up to 8weeks of weed control

I just secure an acre of farmland in Ifo, Ogun state. The land has been cleared/weeded and I intend to plant maize followed by Habanero Pepper when the maize is winding down.

I need advice on whether it it's okay to start the planting of maize now as it has already rained once this year or wait for more rain.
I think it is too early to plant maize, in my area we start planting maize from April

Thanks for the info bro.

Could you highlight its advantages over others and why it's so expensive. I intend delve into Pepper farming later this year

Personally
Super Habanero is one of the best Habanero Pepper, very resistant to diseases and also produces good yield, it has a good scent, hot amd has this unique taste it adds to food

if you fill the sack to the brim, it will accommodate the roots
It depends on how many stands you are targeting, for commercial farms it is not advisable because is will increase your farm input.

Good morning nairalnders, let’s do a challenge, plant pepper seed in sacks for your backyard and update us here with the growth for encouragement, I promise to start encouraging anyone that plants daily in my
Own way.

If 2m nairalnders and 5m Nigerian youth can do this challenge for just a week, in 3months we would be having abundance of pepper to eat and consume.

Stop complaining, do something, just plant in 50-100 to hundreds sacks at your backyard, wet every morning and move on with your normal daily life. Is that too much to hel ourselves?

Or to crown it all, hit the jackpot, which is cassava, just get one plot of land and plant casssva, that one is on 6month, piaaaaaam you fry am sharp, garri is 1100.

Am already working on 5plot of one wasted land for cassava like this. You know what? It will only cost me just 350k to finish the project till o harvest. No risk, no Tax, no looking for buyer. Just sell or fry am to garri.

Below is my one month planting progress for the pepper.

This only means I will have more than enough pepper and garri and kudi……ego!! En!!! to use this year.

This is a good encouragement but I won't advise anybody who wishes to venture into pepper farming to plant in sack. I am a pepper farmer and I have tried planting pepper in sack, the germination and growth was good but the problem started when the pepper started fruiting. I noticed the root of the plant have started perforating the sack, pepper is a perennial crops that takes atlest 3 - 4months before you start harvesting and extra 6-8 months before the plant gets weak of production, during that period of time the sack won't be enough to accommodate the whole root resulting to poor fruiting , the flowers will be falling off, the leaves will be shrinking some time the plant dies off

For those that wish to venture into Pepper farming 🌶️ start now to prepare for the project.

Few months left, start now to be putting things in place like saving up funds for the project, equipping yourself with the knowledge and mapping out land for the project and others.

Pepper farming still one of the best vegetable farming to venture into. Up till now 25kg of Hot Habanero Pepper still soaring high at 35k per bag here.

Many farmers here still do harvest more than 4 to 10 bags weekly. Yield depends on plant population and management.

For now I still consider Super Habanero F1 as one of the best Habanero Pepper seeds so far but the seed is very costly. 5g of Super Habanero F1 goes over 80k while other varieties 5g goes for less than 8k. But there is reason for the high cost.

Full guidance on Pepper farming, training from sowing till harvest or you have any issues on your Pepper farm.

Agreed but that depends on the size of sack used, plus I’ve seen many people do it successfully even here on Nairaland
But you can't compare the yield

Like I said, am also a novice but trying from my backyard was my idea since last year. So I only planted red pepper. Tomatoes and Ugu.
By next week I will try coco yam, and more pepper.

I do not plan to transplant them, no land for that. The organic farming is for my household only. Right now am gathering experience alround to start my Mechanized farming for cassava this year. That cassava is less stressful and difficult to steal away compare to pepper. I believe the sacks should old the pepper.

Am open to any new experiences

Planting pepper in sack is a bad idea, I have tried it once and the outcome was not encouraging, pepper has a fibrous roots, with time the root get bound by the stack making it to stop growing and pepper has a long maturity period of 3-4 months and lasts upto 1 year depending on your management

You're probably burying your seeds too deep in the soil. A light sprinkling of soil which just covers the seeds is sufficient. Also make sure your soil is not too heavy or full of stones. Water the seeds by sprinkling water on them. Do not allow soil dry out and do not overwater either. Try these and let us know how it goes.
do not expose it to too much of sun light because they do affect the seed.

Having bought the seeds, can you use the seeds from the harvested plants a d still give the same results or you still have to buy the seed (hybrid) again for another planting
please what type of fertilizer or did you use to improve yield or nothing at all
how many seeds per hole u put
lastly, did you use heap or horizontal ridge for your cultivation?
using the same seed from the harvested plant will give almost the same results but different quality.
