As farmers, we also have to think strategically. You go with what can give you what you want, and you choose the variety that can give it to you for as long as you need it. Sometimes the smartest decision is not the most hyped variety, but the one that works.

As the plants mature, monitoring for pests and diseases becomes crucial to ensure minimal losses and maximum yield. Common challenges include damping-off disease, leaf curl chilli virus, and whitefly infestations. These can significantly reduce yield if not addressed promptly through preventive measures and proper field management. When the fruits finally start ripening, harvesting is done in batches, allowing farmers to supply the market continuously. With each stage handled correctly, pepper farming becomes not only profitable but also sustainable throughout the season. This season, I decided to kick things off with the Nsukka pepper, especially after weighing the rising cost of the super habanero variety. Many farmers and consumers underestimate the indigenous variety, but the truth is that it is far from the “inferior” crop people assume it to be. This indigenous variety has proven itself in resilience, adaptability, and economic value qualities that make it a smart option for farmers balancing cost and performance. At the end of the day, what the market truly cares about is simple: do you have pepper? Most buyers don’t bother about the specific variety; they just want a steady supply and good-quality fruits. As long as your pepper is fresh, available, and well-priced, it moves. That’s the reality of the business. This year, a bag of pepper sold for as high as ₦100,000, and even now with prices around ₦25,000-₦30,000, But as always, it’s easier said than done. In reality, pepper farming requires patience, consistency, and proper management before the numbers start making sense. Profit is possible sometimes even impressive but it comes only after the work has been done right.

A few years ago, I shared my experience on how profitable pepper farming can be in Nigeria ( https://www.nairaland.com/7956959/how-profitable-pepper-farming-nigeria#127756631 ). Many people asked for updates, practical figures, and lessons learned and now I’m back with my 2025 season report. Pepper farming is still one of the most reliable ventures for farmers seeking steady income and strong market demand. The process is generally smooth and straightforward, although it’s always easier said than done. Everything begins with nursery preparation, where you carefully manage seed germination until the seedlings are ready for transplanting. Once they are moved to the main field, proper management becomes the heart of the work consistent watering, timely weeding, and applying the right nutrients to support vigorous growth.

emmaachile2:Yea, it's more tolerant compared to other hybrid varieties |
billyG:Super habanero but it's very costly @116k for 1000 seeds |
SEMACCOUNT:They will destroy the crops |
44Bulldog:Honestly speaking I don't see much difference between the f1 and f2 is just that the f1 seed are all red while the f2 will have some yellow but that's not an issue, the production and growth period are the same with little to no difference |
codedprince20:It depends how far your farm is from your location, pepper doesn't need a 24/7 lookout u can attend your farm once in 2 days I can't say for the stranger harvesting because I farm on the rural area we experience that kinds of things and goat don't eat pepper |
it's always easier said than done, Before you start up that Pepper farm get ready for PEPPER LEAVE CURL VIRUS and CHILL THRIPS. These diseases are one of the greatest challenges in Pepper farming. It can run down your whole Pepper farm and sink in your capital, labour and time. The best solution is prevention. Once the crop is totally infected there is only little or no chance of recovery. What a bountiful harvest

It's the time of the season and I Just started to harvest on my pepper farm I planted less than what I planted last year due to the economic state of the country but if I knew pepper would be this costly I would have done more than that. Pepper farming is still one of the best vegetable farming to venture into. Up till now 25kg of Hot Habanero Pepper is still soaring high at 60k per bag here. Pepper farming is an area of vegetable farming I would advise any serious agribusiness minded person should venture into. This is not a motivational post or preaching post but my little way of helping those that are looking for a crop to grow. Unlike other vegetables, pepper is very easy to plant and less stressful and will even give you more chances to engage in any other activities. Some markets in your area still depend on the outside supply of Pepper from the north and Cameron. Imagine you supplying freshly harvested pepper from your farm to the market. No competitors Low supply and high demand Almost every family consumes pepper in Nigeria.

numen:I haven't used per-emergent herbicide for my pepper farming so I can't recommend you to use lagoon or any per-emergent herbicide. Yes I use foliar fertilizer (Haifa bonus) for my pepper farming |
Chilli leaf curl virus: Remove infected plant and look for strong Insecticides |
Skyborn:Message me on WhatsApp +2348050203857 |

Growingboi:You can try Lagon, it's a good pre emergency herbicide for maize and cassava, when applied properly, you can be assured of up to 8weeks of weed control |
Growingboi:Imo state |
Growingboi:I think it is too early to plant maize, in my area we start planting maize from April |
Growingboi:The price increases after the bring in new order so am not surprised ![]() |
searchng4love:That's for your location bro, I said for mine |
Growingboi:Personally Super Habanero is one of the best Habanero Pepper, very resistant to diseases and also produces good yield, it has a good scent, hot amd has this unique taste it adds to food |
Growingboi:Not a mistake bro, 1000 seeds of super habanero f1 is sold for 80k the last time I checked for the price I don't know the current price now |
RainMoreDFARMS:It depends on how many stands you are targeting, for commercial farms it is not advisable because is will increase your farm input. |
Xwizard:This is a good encouragement but I won't advise anybody who wishes to venture into pepper farming to plant in sack. I am a pepper farmer and I have tried planting pepper in sack, the germination and growth was good but the problem started when the pepper started fruiting. I noticed the root of the plant have started perforating the sack, pepper is a perennial crops that takes atlest 3 - 4months before you start harvesting and extra 6-8 months before the plant gets weak of production, during that period of time the sack won't be enough to accommodate the whole root resulting to poor fruiting , the flowers will be falling off, the leaves will be shrinking some time the plant dies off |

For those that wish to venture into Pepper farming 🌶️ start now to prepare for the project. Few months left, start now to be putting things in place like saving up funds for the project, equipping yourself with the knowledge and mapping out land for the project and others. Pepper farming still one of the best vegetable farming to venture into. Up till now 25kg of Hot Habanero Pepper still soaring high at 35k per bag here. Many farmers here still do harvest more than 4 to 10 bags weekly. Yield depends on plant population and management. For now I still consider Super Habanero F1 as one of the best Habanero Pepper seeds so far but the seed is very costly. 5g of Super Habanero F1 goes over 80k while other varieties 5g goes for less than 8k. But there is reason for the high cost. Full guidance on Pepper farming, training from sowing till harvest or you have any issues on your Pepper farm. Call or Whatsapp 08050203857 |
