You can over tax your people ..thagz normal thing with you guys in SW ! IGR doesn't show development or standard of living. If the standard of living is that fantastic why can't the folks in Oyo build a decent house or at least change their zinka and renovate those dingoes called houses ?

In Nigeria, Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) is often treated as a benchmark to assess the strength of a state’s economy, but it is misleading to interpret it as evidence of high development. A state’s capacity to raise money internally reflects its fiscal strength, yet it does not directly measure the quality of life, infrastructure, or human development enjoyed by its people. The experiences of Oyo State and Anambra State illustrate this disconnect very clearly.

Oyo State consistently ranks among the top states in Nigeria in terms of IGR. This is largely due to its large population and the commercial activities concentrated in Ibadan, a traditional economic hub. More people and businesses naturally expand the tax base, making it easier for the state government to collect revenue. However, when examined through the lens of development indicators such as health outcomes, educational quality, infrastructure provision, and per capita income, Oyo lags behind. Many rural communities remain underserved, public healthcare delivery is weak, and the living standards of the average citizen do not reflect the state’s revenue strength. This suggests that Oyo’s high IGR has not translated into proportional human development, and revenue figures alone cannot be used to measure progress.

In contrast, Anambra State generates less internal revenue, but its performance on several dimensions of human development is stronger. Anambra boasts one of the highest literacy rates in Nigeria, a thriving culture of entrepreneurship, and a dynamic small-scale industrial sector that continues to grow. Despite its relatively modest IGR compared to Oyo, Anambra demonstrates how governance quality, efficient use of resources, and investment in people can yield more meaningful improvements in welfare. This reveals that effective management of revenue is far more decisive in development outcomes than the size of the revenue itself.

This reality is not unique to Nigeria. Globally, smaller countries such as Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein consistently rank higher in human development and living standards than much larger economies like the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. The GDP size or the total revenue collected by these larger nations far exceeds that of the smaller states, yet the smaller countries excel in healthcare, education, income equality, and overall quality of life. This comparison reinforces the point that development is not measured by the volume of internally generated revenue or total economic size, but by how effectively resources are managed and translated into tangible improvements for citizens.

In conclusion, IGR is at best a measure of fiscal capacity, not an indicator of human development. The comparison between Oyo and Anambra, as well as the global examples of Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein against much larger European economies, show that real development is about outcomes, not collections. Development is ultimately reflected in how much improvement people experience in their daily lives, whether in education, healthcare, infrastructure, or income security. Revenue alone is meaningless if it is not harnessed to improve the human condition.
😂😂😂 cry me a river….onitsha market trader want to educate me on economic? Wonders shall never end😂😂😂 I didn’t even take time to read your long piece of gibberish but I will educate you on just few point you raised.

Firstly, Ibadan is called the ancient city for a reason, and that’s because it is the cradle of civilisation and development in Nigeria and was at a point the most developed part of Nigeria and making a lot of history not just for the Yorubas but Nigeria. The city of many first hold the record history of the first storey build which till date can’t be found in anywhere in your region grin first Tv station, first housing estate, first stadium which is the liberty stadium, first teaching hospital, first university which many of your ancestors were also beneficiary of education development grin etc

Oyo state is just about the size of your entire 5plot of land in landmass and Ibadan the capital is the largest city in west Africa with large landmass, and we have developed new areas and infrastructure such as oluyole, bodija, alalubosa, agodi etc which have valued estates of modern structures more valued than anywhere in your 5plot of land and i also showed you some pic yesterday because I know you ipob clowns are always obsessed with showing pictures of your village mansion in a desperate attempt to measure d!ck grin

So why should we demolish our old structure that were built when your ancestors were still covered in leafs and living in forest while Yorubas were already living in modern structures as at then? Those structures remind us of our beginning as the cradle of our civilisation and like I said we are proud of them, even in Venice they still retain and maintain their old structures even though they have modern part of the city just like Ibadan.

Yorubas have documented history unlike you clowns with no known his history and achievement and expect your Biafra war history, what other documented history or achievement are you know for? So how can you appreciate other peoples history when you have non grin

Your 5plot of land is tiny in landmass and also faced with the challenge of erosion, that’s why you lot mostly build storey buildings just to keep with the shortage of land while in yorubaland, we still have massive land for real estate and farming so you can’t compare the two region so we won’t demolish our old structures which remind us of our past and beginning when we still have massive land to develop, if you are in doubt, as your blodas that are living in ibadan and they will you we have new developments site with modern structures and real estate investment that can’t be found anywhere in SE grin but you can continue in your mischief and continue posting old pictures of Ibadan just to suit your warped narrative grin

And finally, Ibadan boast of infrastructures, industries, and also foreign investment more than what can be found in your place and it is still educationally advance and also schools, universities of repute and research institutes than anywhere in your region e.g UI the best federal university in Nigeria and also lautech the best state university in Nigeria and also teaching hospitals, so pls mention schools in your neck of woods that comes close? grin

In economy just as all development stats have pointed out, oyo state has industrial estates, foreign investment and just recently the list of state that attracted FDI was listed and oyo state, Ekiti and Lagos all from Sw and non from your region grin and also have agricultural settlements which is one of the most developed in the country and also a far educated population and Human Resources that drives development and commerce which as also made it the 4th or 5th most developed state both economically and infrastructure wise grin and your entire region not even just Anambala dare comes close, so just sue that delusion of Comparing Anambala with Ibadan 😂😂

Nwokem, numbers don’t lie and fact are sacred but you can continue to wallow in your ignorance, below are more pictures of modern Ibadan, apples you can feed your eyes grin so quit comparing oranges with apple grin

😂😂this Ipob village people sef….what as the over filtered pictures of building on potopoto land the size of Ibadan got to prove? To you clowns, building mansions on erosion land is all it takes to measure development? Ibadan alone as more infrastructure and industries and even real estate, GRAs more than all the state in your region combined. I served in owerri and there is nothing new in the picture to convince me otherwise….just like I said earlier, the first storey building in Nigeria still standing talk me today, can’t be found anywhere in your entire region, not to mention other infrastructure, such as bridges, rails, roads, schools, hospitals, research institutes, industrial estate Etc…just oluyole estate, bodija, agodi. grin yes, we will rig it again just like you rig the election in sad yeast and gave bitter obi 100% vote😂😂😂Otondo, just because your yes daddy agulu packaged fraud was rejected in other regions, then the election was rigged😂😂 you can vote your tribe man but others don’t have the right to vote there own grin you must be really delusional if you think your yes daddy religious and ethnic bigot will get the vote he got in the last election….no be by chochocho, reserve your tears for 2027, if he wins any state outside his tribal region, make I see wetin cause am😂😂😂

The way you boosted in your comment I quoted, claiming to win same margin for Tinubu, that was why I told it would not be possible in SW because I am also a Yoruba man and I don't see Tinubu winning with such margin. No doubt, APC would want to make statement in the next election but hungry men anger would not allow them because people are really hungry and angry with his government at present. Some that even voted for him in the last election are even causing him now. Tinubu would not have it easy again and it is going to be difficult in other region tuffs. Meanwhile, if you people are depending on rigging, lives would be loss because people are not smiling at all.
grin indeed, Yoruba man from Anambala😂😂😂no need for this long gibberish, just reserve your tears for 2027, Ariwo ko ni music😂😂so hunger just started today in Nigeria? 😂😂

Please campaign well o and make your candidate win 100% in his enclave in 2027. However, if Tinubu is your candidate, just have this at the back of your mind, he cannot win SW 100% in any election, not with the attendant poverty he has put people into.
cheesy he cannot win 100% because we are not ethnic bigot. There as never been a time in yorubaland any candidate won elections in yorubaland with 100% vote and that shows you the sophistication of Yorubas grin we don’t put all our eggs in one basket or all sleep and face the same direction that’s why we have mixed religion in every home and we co exist well grin but come 2027, we will make sure every inche of Yorubaland is won by Tinubu grin

grin Otondo, who cares whether they have investment outside ibo land? Keep deflecting from the point I made. Do you sell land to others? Your hostile nature and the self inflicted insecurity have not made your region attractive. I served in owerri and I can tell you for free that your region is not economically viable for business and real estate.

99 years landlord😂😂
See as you dey embarrass yourself with ignorance, which lease are you shouting up and down?
The Land Use Act of 1978 says all land in Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians ...weather in Enugu, Kano, Lagos everywhere and is vested in the Governor on behalf of the federation, not some ethnic group. That’s why C of O or R of O is issued by government not by Yoruba people.
grin indeed, ndi unity begger, now we are all Nigerians because you want to claim Lagos yorubaland😂😂😂may I remind you we still use state of origin? Which tell you we all come from somewhere and everyone as a root and indigenous to a place which is why we still retain the state of origin status to retain our identity, as I am first a yoruba man from Lagos before a Nigeria grin

We don’t share customs, tradition not even border and every land as it own tradition which is different from your neck of woods grin and no matter own long you claim to live or own property in another man’s land, it’s still doesn’t guarantee you as the owner of than land but just an occupant, get that into your skull and quit being emotional nwokem grin

How many Nigerians own land or property in your region? You potopoto land are valueless that’s why you all want to own property and land in Lagos yorubaland grin and the government is still a Yoruba government and also the traditional institution and you migrant still pays taxes and royalties to us, so why are you still crying?
