If tehran had a nuke or some measure of quantifiable deterrence, this "economic misadventure" would have been swallowed with an equal measure of confidence from the public.

But taking this risk with pliable neighbors who'll readily sell you out to your enemies at any opportune moment, is in my opinion, a f**lish decision with consequences that will subsequently prove to be dire.

Iran should rather focus on selling military hardware, security assurances and oil resources to their gulf neighbours, rather than creating room for self-inflicted sabotage, which is certainly bound to happen should the west cuddle the Arabs well enough to turn them.

We've seen this play out severally before.

Iran was rumoured to have acquired nukes from a "named" third party and the white house was allegedly informed about it, promptly necessitating this crumbling ceasefire.

I made light of the information for about a month now, but seeing Trump sounding so frantic and beggarly following today's escalations, now somewhat reinforces my suspicion.

A political career that's careening towards its nadir cannot possibly be the reason Donald Trump (of all people) is feverishly evading a "head-on-a-platter" opportunity to hammer Iran.
