Plateau job seekers allege secret recruitment Some job seekers in Plateau State, in separate interviews with The PUNCH in Jos, alleged that the recruitment was being done secretly in the state. One of them, John Chollom , said, “We don’t know what is happening. I don’t even know where to go again to obtain the recruitment form because if you go to the ward, they will direct you to the local government area headquarters and the people in the local government headquarters will tell you to meet the state selection committee and when you meet any of them, they will tell you to return to the ward. So the whole thing is shrouded in secrecy.” Investigations by one of our correspondents revealed that although the recruitment exercise had started in the state, forms were not being given to prospective applicants but were given in bulk to the LGAs for onward distribution to the beneficiaries. For instance, it was gathered that Barkin Ladi LGA, which has 20 federal wards, was given only 30 forms to be shared among applicants. A councillor in the area, who declined to give his name for fear of being victimised, confirmed the number of forms allocated to the LGA. He said, “For now, that is the number that has been given to us in the council area. It is not enough and it is even smaller than the number the selection committee said they would give us.” But the Chairman of the state selection committee, Rufus Bature, in a reaction dismissed the allegation that the recruitment exercise was being done secretly. Bature said, “We have started the recruitment in the 17 LGAs. There is nothing secret in what we are doing because the people of the state are being carried along in every step we take. The 1,000 slots allocated to each local government area is a negligible number compared with the number of people and that means that every person cannot get the job.” Ekoo, in an interview with The PUNCH on Thursday, said the recruitment would begin next week. Ekoo, who noted that 23,000 slots were given to the state in line with the number of its LGAs, explained that some slots had been allocated to politicians, religious leaders and traditional rulers. The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotosho, told The PUNCH that the state was allocated 20,000 slots. He explained that a committee had been formed to handle the recruitment, adding that all stakeholders would be represented to ensure fairness. He said, “It’s 1,000 per local government, so Lagos has a total of 20,000 slots. There is a committee handling it. The committee is headed by a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee, Mutiu Are.” Also, based on the fact that each local government area has 1,000 slots, Enugu State, which has 17 LGAs has 17,000 slots. 20,000 apply for Gombe’s 11,000 jobs The Gombe State Coordinator of National Directorate of Employment, Hassan Mustapha, in a chat with The PUNCH, said over 20,000 people had applied in the state. Mustapha added that the state had 11,000 slots. He said, “We are expecting 11,000, that is 1,000 per the 11 local government area, but over 20,000 have applied.” The coordinator stated that politicians were complaining that the slots given to them were inadequate. - The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has ordered policemen to seal off the national secretariat of the APC - The police boss gave the order on Tuesday, June 23, ahead of his meeting with two camps of the party's national working committee - The seal off order was handed down through the FCT commissioner of police to the APC chief security officer The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has ordered policemen to seal off the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja. The Nation newspaper reported that the police boss gave the order on Tuesday, June 23, ahead of his meeting with two opposing camps of the party's National Working Committee (NWC) at the force headquarters by 1pm. Police seal APC headquarters as crisis deepens Sources said the IGP’s order was handed down through the FCT commissioner of police to the APC chief security officer. The order reportedly stipulated that members of the National Working Committee(NWC) are not allowed entrance to the party headquarters. A party source who does not want to be named said the secretariat was sealed to enable the police boss and the two NWC groups to review and discuss the various court orders being brandished by the competing groups within the party. Meanwhile, a civil society organisation, Centre for Public Trust (CPT), has lamented that the current crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is a handiwork of organised centrifugal forces who are interested in capturing the presidency in 2023. This was contained in a statement issued by the acting senior program officer of the group, Mr Simon Pam, titled: APC Crisis: The Hand of Esau and the Voice of Jacob. The non-profit group expressed fear at the turn of events in the APC and predicted that the crisis in Edo state may lead to needless bloodshed during the forthcoming elections. Furthermore, the statement warned Nigerians to be aware that those behind the current crisis are part of a plot “coordinated and funded by a man who wants the soul of APC at all costs to feather the nest of his 2023 ambition.” “This well-known merchant of mischief and apostle of primitive accumulation should come clear and stop the proxy war now,” the group said. The group further stated that many observers are waiting and watching keenly for the cataclysmic implosion of the APC. According to the statement, “the characters who are the faces of the crisis especially Igo Aguma and Hillard Etta are dubious political jobbers with a long history of duplicity.” The group observed that while it is not their duty to meddle into internal issues of a political party, discerning Nigerians can see through what is going on.

A local man, who went by the alias *Peter to protect his identity, revealed he has tested positive for Covid-19 The local man revealed he lied to his wife about going to work to visit his side chick during the lockdown A man who has been given the name *Peter to protect his identity has opened up about how his cheating ways got him into trouble. *Peter, a 33-year-old businessman from Johannesburg, contracted the coronavirus after he left his wife at home to visit his side chick. His story was shared by W24's Joanna Zulu, who reported that *Peter has been having an affair for over a year now despite being married for 12 years. *Peter revealed the lockdown has been taking a toll on his private life and business. He revealed that before the pandemic, he managed to juggle two relationships without trouble but it has gotten more complicated since lockdown began. He told Zulu: "The lockdown has made things very tricky for us. We can't even go on a weekend getaway or grab lunch or dinner at our favourite restaurants. We have been quite restricted." Peter said he had to visit his mistress at her home to spend some quality time together and a week later, he started experiencing Coid-19 symptoms. His wife called their family doctor and both were tested for Covid-19. Luckily, *Peter's wife tested negative despite him getting a positive result. He immediately phoned his girlfriend and a week after he tested positive, she started experiencing symptoms. Both *Peter and his side chick have since tested positive and it turns out they were infected by her next-door neighbour who visited her at home. Peter revealed his wife still has no idea how he contracted the virus and is under the impression that he got infected at the office. He said: "I do feel bad that I would've put my wife's life on the line, but I'm relieved that I'm the only one tested positive. My girlfriend and I are recovering well, but to be honest, I regret my decision to her." |
