I just found out I am pregnant for my fiance. He wants me to give birth in Canada.

I have not started the application yet because I am scared I may get rejected due to lack of travel history and ties with Nigeria.

I also need help with the whole process. While filling the visa application form, do I disclose that I am going to Canada to give birth?

NB; My fiance, who is a UK resident(not citizen) will be the one sponsoring the visa process

What date next month? As it stands now, its already almost too late to resume in Sept. If NDDC wants to behave like their head is correct, they might invite successful applicants for briefing first week of October (earliest). It takes approx 21 days to get a UK study Visa. That means you are looking at beginning of November. You would have already missed a lot of classes and UK is not like Nigeria that you can miss classes and still show up for exam.

You wont even know how to go about writing coursework and doing references sef. Best option right now is to defer to Jan

If there is a plan, it will be nice. NDDC gives everyone the same $30,000. So its up to you to choose the school you want to attend. I have a friend who went to Leeds. His fees was £26,000. He had to add money to pay his fees and also hustle for upkeep. Another person I know went to America. Her fees is the $30,000/year. Since NDDC scholarship is 1 year for Msc, she had to hustle to pay her second year school fees. So for NDDC, its up to you. If you want to attend a top 10 UK school, get ready to add money and pay your fees. If you dont have where to hustle money from, go to a school that the fees range between £11,000- £13,000 so you can have change for upkeep.

I was going to ask if there is an upgrade in the award value? Because $30k seem unrealistic for an average program of MSc in the UK for instance! $30k is about +/- £24k, which is not even up to the tuition fee of some programs in certain universities, talk more of living expenses. NDDC should do well to step up their game to make this scheme a realistic one. This is one of the avenues that the Niger Deltan states could develop her human resources. However, the whole process is been politicised. It would have been worthwhile to even reduce the number of awardees, if that is what it will take to improve on the value of the award. Because I don't see how $30k can get you a master's degree from a University like leeds, Manchester, City UoL, UCL, Southampton, etc. So I just pray they increase the value this time.
A friend of mine told me that there is plan for the upgrade of the value this time, but don't know how true this information bears! Can anybody in the house confirm this?

From the little I know, NDDC is not bothered about the scholarship. They are more concerned about the 2019 political scene as the MD might be running for political office.

I also know that exams and interviews are meant to have been held by now but as at last week, management had not even signed the time table education department sent to them.

Lets all keep our fingers crossed. If its exams and interview, fine. If its just exams, still fine. Most Important is that we go to school in Jan because right now, Sept feels unrealistic.

Saying no supervisor will graduate you in three years is not true. If you are fast and finish your dissertation and also satisfy the panel in three years, you will be graduated. In Germany and a lot of UK schools, it is expected that you finish within three years hence, funding is provided for just the three years.

In America, PhD is 4-5 years. Some people with exceptional research skills finish within 3 years while others are still on a PhD for close to 7 years.

Good thing about PhD is that it depends on how fast the student is with research.

Any update on this. I Apply for PhD scholarship though without offer letter from the university due to short notice by NNDC. Just felt I should try rather than let it go like that. Now, the university is willing to give me an offer. Those with insider eye, will a case like this be accepted for shortlist by NDDC? Are there accepted cases like mine in the past?

This is exactly my point. Laslas, PTDF didnt promise anyone admission. They are not in control of the Universities admission board. This is one of the reasons I was skeptical about applying to Top Tier schools. With my 2.2 undergraduate degree, schools like IFP, UCL, Imperial and even Tu Munich will not even look at my application twice before deleting; plus other factors the schools consider like work experience and the rest.

PTDF didn't mislead anyone.

While you thought that just being contacted was all that was needed to be a successful PTDF scholar, you didn't put into consideration many important factors and variables that'd actually get you on the final list. Some of these factors, you nor PTDF have no control of.

Firstly, those contacted aren't the only persons in the world that are considered for admission into the selected courses in these universities. These unis are well sought after by scholars the world over. The best the unis can do is that of reaching an "inclusive" agreement with PTDF. But the number of "qualified" scholars they eventually select isn't controlled by PTDF but by the school's admission process.

Secondly, these universities have quota for each department which they strictly abide by, unlike what you see in Nigerian unis where they just keep piling an unmanageable number of students into universities with no infrastructure. So students to staff ratio will be maintained. For instance the availability of research supervisors for a given area of research may affect qualified PhD scholars.

Lastly, the timeline of getting things done in Nigeria is so slow and undependable compared to that of developed countries. By the time other scholars will be done with the admission process, language courses and settling in to their courses proper, PTDF scholars may still be at the stage of processing visa. The only thing that is free and easy in this country is when your uncle that is a manager in that company offers you that job But if you want to get what you are deserving of you must sweat. I just hope things improve in this country.

If you qualify for the scholarship, PTDF simply sends your details to the schools you chose. The schools now judge you based on their own admission criteria. If you qualify, fine.You get admitted. If you dont qualify, you dont get admitted.

No serious University will grant anybody admission just because of PTDF na. Haba!

This is one of the reasons I didnt choose top tier schools like University College London or Imperial College (competition for admission is very high)

However, I dont know whats gonna happen to those who got qualified but couldnt secure admission.

Information reaching me agrees with you wholy. I understand the list (gfc/uk) should be out before the end of next week and induction should be second week of July. Both my sources gave the same time line but even that is not conclusive or definitive. My experience with ptdf staff have taught me that they are very economical with information. Believe me, if you are right now on the phone with a senior staff at ptdf requesting to know when the list will be out, he/she will leave you more confused than you were before you got on the phone. Rather than worry about which information is genuine or otherwise, applicants should pray and not get desperate. Best wishes to all

Which international best practise do you refer to? The act of graduate students writing scholarship test is mostly popular in Nigeria.

For most govt scholarships abroad, you are judged based on your essay (SOP) and previous academic performance which PTDF did as well.

Besides before you applied, PTDF made it clear on their website that there wont be test. You still applied o. Now, you are coming to cry nonsense cry

Bros, I did my own interview for F/G/C , when I was asked for awards, I presented them two awards I got in my department and one certificate of participation a international foundation , though not academic but but like National Ass of ....... Students but the interviewers did not accept . They insisted on academic awards such as best graduating student or other academic awards. Are they all depts award ? What is the fate of candidate who is academically sound with no award , so award mark is zero?
Honestly, anything govt, in particular Nigeria is done somehow . Some candidates would not be qualified as one but would get the offer, who will question?
I still insist that PTDF should have done aptitude test and interview to get best in both MSc and PhD. it does not take PTDF anytime to follow these measures:

Shorlist .
Conduct aptitude test(CBT).
Select high-scoring candidates across board.
Oral Interview with real-time scorecard.

The yardsticks used are not strong and does not follow international best practices of measurements.
