Email: Mreon870@hotmail.co.uk _____________________________ **** I was standing in front of Chiamaka's door. My heart pounded. I looked over myself again which must have been the thousandth time. This is my opening, I cant waste it. Chiamaka has been turning me down and out of the blue she calls me this morning to hang out later in the evening. Her place was just down the street from mine. Love is truly in the air I said to myself nodding. Suddenly, the door opened and Chiamaka stepped out. She was looking gorgeous in red. Her hair flowed freely. Her eyes looked like that of a cat. Her light skin glittered in the fading sun. I noticed a sharp movement in my pelvic region and I reminded myself to calm down. " You look gorgeous babe " I said "Thank you. So how are we going? " she said looking around like something was missing I planned for us to walk to the location I had in mind which was just down the road. But at the moment Chiamaka and I doesn't seem to be on the same page " I'm sorry where are we going babe? " I asked like a child that lost his way " I thought you were taking me to that new spot in town. You didn't expect me all dressed up like this and taking a bike? " she said as she took one step backwards ao I could get a good look of her Taking a cab to "the spot" will put a huge dent in the #5000 in my back pocket. I didn't plan for this but I can't back down now. "sure babe let me hail a cab" I said as I rushed off towards the road. In minutes we were in the cab heading for "the spot". The cab moved steadily. My stupid eyes wondered to her thighs. It was thick and fair. Help me Jesus! I screamed silently. Didn't know the gown was that short.I quickly removed my eyes and mumbled a short prayer. I have never been to "the spot" but I don't need to be there to know their prices could permanently break a man's back and send him to the bed forever. In few minutes, we pulled up in front of "the spot". We were there. I brought out one thousand naira and paid the cab. On entering the gate, the place looked like a market. I didn't know so much people have money to spend during these trying times. Maybe love was truly in the air. Getting a sit and table was a hassle. Finally we settled down and relaxed. "what will you take babe? " I asked " Heineken would do." She replied I immediately pressed the calculator upstairs. I wasn't looking all bad after all. I signalled the waitress over and ordered two bottles of Heineken. The waitress left and in few minutes she was back with the drinks. "how much are the dri-" I was cut short "do you wanna pay now cause I thought we are only starting? " she asked I forced a smile while screaming "gorimapa" in my head. This girl probably thinks I'm loaded. I assumed she would only drink twice - big mistake. A bottle of Heineken ran for #500. "don't worry. You can leave " I signalled her to leave. She gave me the "please don't run with my money" look. If we weren't seated in an open space, I would have been sweating profusely. She was drinking already. I haven't even uncorked my drink yet.l looked towards her, she was smiling and looking all around her. The place was noisy and I don't like shouting in order to make a conversation I uncorked my drink poured some and started sipping it gently. My phone vibrated, looking at the screen it seemed important. I stepped away from all the noise. The call was a long one. As I walked towards our table I almost didn't recognise our table. She was on her 3rd Heineken bottle. I screamed "chinekemoo!!" in my mind. I saw something like a fish as I got closer. I silently prayed to God that maybe the Cupid was real and he was the one that bought the barbecued fish she was munching on. I dragged the sit backward and sat on it "honey, I ordered us fish while you were away. They would come collect the money soon " Chiamaka said That was the moment poo hit the fan. "how mu-u-ch is the fi-ish" I was stammering but I couldn't help it. "its just #5000 hun" she said as she took another bite off the fish My back has been broken and if i didn't get out of here soon, I would be condemned to the bed. The whole se.x thoughts completely disappeared. I had to get get out of here. "Babe I have to use the toilet" I went for the oldest trick in the book. The waitress was already hovering around more than usual " alright. Gimme your phone to keep me company. " she said as she further devoured the fish. This girl is smart. I am doomed. There is no way I am leaving my tecno phantom that I just bought from Chidi last week behind. "mbanu!" I gave her the phone cause if I said I didn't need to go I would confirm the suspicion cause the suspicion is already there. I quickly went to the toilet, managed a pee and came back. I have been sitting for like 15mins saying all the prayers I knew since kindergarten. Chiamaka was on her 4th Heineken bottle and she ordered a plate of chicken pepper soup. God had to save me or I am doomed. The crowd was getting rowdier. Suddenly, Three voices was loud in the air arguing immensely.I heard bottles break on the floor. Sharp gunshots immediately followed. As I heard the gun shots people were clamouring to the floor. Me, I just stood up and took off. It was better to die by a bullet than to be caught here pants down with no money. The end. |
Good job. The ending was too sudden but its a short story so its kinda okay. |
Thanks bro. We should work together. ![]() |
sweetgala:I'm sorry this is Horse poo and you know it. |
I'm sorry its a short update. Haven't really had the time. Cc HumbledbYGrace |
***** I entered my apartment feeling completely knackered. Work has been hectic. I walked over to the sofa and allowed myself to sink in as I unknotted my tie. My mind quickly went through the events of the day. Having lunch with Obioha was definitely the highlight. I removed the tie from around my neck and held it on my left hand. I was feeling hungry but I'm going to put off eating till dinner. I relaxed my head on the sofa. I was thinking about Chinwe and her probable motives. What could possibly be going on in her head. Thinking about the dinner made me uneasy and restless. I looked towards my mini bar hangin on the wall. A thought quickly came to mind and a smile played on my lips. I looked at the wall clock it was just past 5pm. I got up and walked to my bedroom. Having my bath and dressing up the major things I had in mind. After about thirty minutes I was done with bathing and dressing up. I didn't immediately wear my shirt cause I wasn't heading out yet. I made my way to the sitting room, straight to the mini bar. I grabbed a bottle of Grappa and a glass, made my way to the sofa and sat down. I placed the glass on the side stool as I unscrewed the bottle. In seconds, transparent liquid left the glass half full. I dropped the bottle on the side stool, picked up the glass and looked at the clock. It was past 5pm. I could do this till 7pm to calm my nerves I said to myself. I relaxed on the sofa, switched on the television and started watching reruns of two and a half men. I was definitely not looking forward to the dinner. I loved being single. My life worked better that way. I do have female friends though and every single one has a purpose. I poured myself drink after drink as I sat there so engrossed in the comedy. I was beginning to feel a bit hazy. My alcohol in blood level must have definitely spiked. I looked up from the tv to the wall clock, it was almost 7pm. Shit! I screamed out. I got off the sofa, dragged myself to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and used a high amount of mouth wash. This was in order to get rid of the alcohol breath. I wore my shirt, sprayed my cologne, grabbed my car key and made for the door after pausing in front of the wall mirror for a moment. **** I pulled up in front of the restaurant. Obioha had earlier sent me details. I found a free spot and parked my car. The alcohol has already started playing its part. I have become a jolly good fellow. I got off my car, locked it and started walking towards the entrance. The security man behind the door quickly pulled it open and I made my way inside. The restaurant was almost full. Different people on different tables. They were mostly in pairs. I looked around and saw Obioha and Chinwe in the far corner. They were talking to themselves. I took a deep breath. Short coordinated steps I told myself. I walked to the table and sat down. "hello brother and sister" I said smiling while trying to adjust the sit in order to sit down. "you are late. " Obioha said. His voice sounded uneventful. I looked up for the first time. Obioha was his usual self. Dressed in a blue t-shirt, I couldn't see his trousers from the angle I seated. Chinwe looked unusually beautiful. Maybe it was the alcohol. Her blue gown was flawless. Her neck piece glittered in the light. She wore an awesome shade of red on her lips. Her hair flowed freely down to her shoulder. She was smiling at me. " I'm sorry. I lost track of time " I said looking at Obioha " just like I thought. After all the time you wasted you didn't bring a date. Good thing I didn't bring Chika...would have been awkward " Obioha sounded snarky "I'm surprised you have not finished all the food here or you don't really have much appetite? " I countered. " guys, guys. Take it easy. Put away your guns... " Chinwe said looking at both of us. ".. this is not the wild wild west. Lets order some food and try to have a nice evening together..." Chinwe was like the glue that kept I and Obioha together. I sometimes wondered what would have happened to our friendship without her even during our University days. " we should listen to your sister before she gives us a beating " I said laughing looking towards Obioha " Don't make me ask you about your father " Obioha said as he signalled the waiter over. The waiter was dressed in white shirt and black trousers. He really appeared very smart. I wasn't sure what to eat. The alcohol wasn't helping either. I wondered if they could tell I'm tipsy. Suddenly, Obioha's phone rang and he moved away from the table to take it. I ordered chicken with chips, wasn't in the mood for anything heavy. Chinwe ordered Abacha with fresh fish. Obioha was still away with his phone so I asked the waiter to come back for his order. " I'm sorry guys. I have to leave, hospital emergency " Obioha said as he sat down I didn't want to believe I heard right. Why would he leave me all alone with the sister. Is he nuts? I was getting increasingly nervous. " you are coming back right? " I asked hoping to God he would say yes " I don't think so Nnamdi. I think they need me in for the night. I think a bus had an accident or something. Will fill you in later " Obioha said as he got up to leave " you guys should enjoy the dinner" he said as he turned and walked away. At that moment I was certain God was punishing me for something I did. I felt like the Grappa I took earlier was losing its potency. " you seem tipsy" Chinwe said How the hell did she know. Is it that obvious i wondered. " if you thinking if its obvious, the answer is no. " Chinwe said smiling "you now read minds " " nope. Only yours. I have known you for a long time. " She said. The smile still on her lips. She looked exceptionally beautiful. Her lips looked so enchanting. The lip stick was definitely working its magic. I needed to distract myself. The waiter brought our order and set it up on the table. " get us a bottle of white wine please" Chinwe said as the waiter turns to leave. "do you think that a good idea? " I asked trying to understand her angle. " its just wine Nnamdi. Relax. " she said. Her trademark mischievous smile played on her lips "besides what's the worst that could happen? Spend the night together? " she said as she picked up her fork. I was dumbfounded. We were not supposed to talk about this. Why did Obioha have to abandon me. Damn hospitals!!. " I thought we agreed never to talk about this? " my voice was so unnecessarily low like there was C.I.A agents trying to listen in. " that's true. But I think about it. Nobody said anything about not thinking about it. Do you think about it? " Chinwe was now looking at me. I didn't know what to say. Of course I thought about it every time. Every single night before I slept. Her touch. The feel of her skin. The taste of her lips. Everything. I thought about everything. " No. I don't think about it and you shouldn't too" " You know me. I cant date you. You my best friends younger sister. This is wrong. " I continued. I guess the alcohol took over. " who says I want you to date me? Don't flatter yourself. " " I'm an adult just like you. Stop feeling sorry and guilty " Chinwe conclude I didn't like the direction the conversation was going. I needed to get out of there. I barely even touched my food. I was just drinking and occasionally chewing on some fries. I needed a miracle. " I understand. Could we talk about something else please? " |
