We shouldn't be worried about the country we would be playing against. What our team should do is be very serious with the first leg. Once they can achieve a good result in the first leg and put up enough for the second leg, then we would be in Brazil. |
@poster. When people are given a very huge opportunity to uplift the image of their nation, they misused it. My questions to you are: 1. What have you contributed to this nation? You are just posting comparison when you have not done anything than to downgrade your country. 2. How about giving you a free visa to go and was toilet in Qatar. Even though you are uplifting Qatar and downgrading yourself and your country, you will never be accepted as part of Qatar in the real sense. 3. You have an opportunity to promote yourself and your nation, but you are misusing it. Go to places like China, access to twitter(blogging site), youtube, facebook and many more sites have been blocked and look at what you are doing with the great opportunity that you have. Go and open your "koolo" (Koolo in yoruba, in English means piggy bank) and start a small business and see how much you can contribute to your nation. |
Chima_Adeoye: Men, @Chima, I am happy you one of the most reasonable Nigerians not one like that "OLU". Go and check what his colleague "AWODWA...." called him in one of his post. He called him "OKU". I am sure he hasn't realize that yet. I guess that OLU is as dumb as this one. Both of them are ignoring the facts. @OLU, No one is begging you to go back. You can remain in slavery. @AWODWA... Thank your head for NELSON MANDELA. All due respect to this great man. He is the only one you can look up to for your freedom. When he is gone, the whites will sell you all into slavery and there won't be any more generous Nigerian govt. to save you from another apartheid. Apartheid is coming. I would also like to remind you the leader you have, JACOB ZUMA, Wow!!! he likes sex more than his life. He is very corrupt. You have failed, when Nigeria is diversifying from oil, when the world is diversifying from oil, you are searching for it. That's a big doom for your country, you will never know until you start exploration. TIME WILL TELL, IF WE WILL OVERTAKE YOU OR NOT. When MTN, DSTV and the rest move their headquarters to Nigeria, don't cry pls. Lastly, whether you like it or not NAIRALAND is purely Nigerian. If you are not happy with our success, why don't you just leave. |

AwodwaGyanOniwe: @Patriot@ AwodwaGyanOniwe, it's time you focus more on the problems in SA for the sake of the ailing SA economy. I am not here to argue with poor scumbag like you but i am tired of your arrogance here. I don't think abusing another country is the best for a poor apartheid suffering fellow like you. If a country is overtaking yours, how about sitting back and emulating the style that has led them to overtaking you. Though a country maybe in distress due to poor leadership, i don't think SA is free from that either as we all know the crimes committed by your Jacob Zuma who slept with an HIV positive girl and still became your president. SA is growing at around 2% and Nigeria is growing at more than 7%, then what do you expect in the future. USA and China are examples to SA and Nigeria. Even though the poverty level in China is higher than that of USA, there is an upturn in their HDI but a downturn in USA's HDI, which is very clear. The same is bound to happen in every developed countries when the cost of living in a country is too high. How about looking inwards at your problems rather than coming to NL to abuse others!!!! |

chunis: Nawa oooo.. Some people just like making a fuss about something really simple and glaring! Thank God u have agreed that " Nigeria's economy is growing due to bla bla bla...... " Now lemme lecture u as an Economist dat ur not! An economy like Nigeria's can have growth without development! Don't be confused jst follow on..... This is simply because of d market dat we have (abt 160milliin ppl) dis encourages firms, companies and likes to spend so much on diesel because dey know d market would surely cover dia costs! Mtn masts (radio towers) run on generator 24/7 in most places.... Why haven't dey left d countryI think this should be clear enough to explain why Nigeria economy is going to boom. The power sector will recover. Infrastructure will definitely show up. You need to see the amount of money that has been spent on infrastructures in the last couple of years by the state govts like Lagos state. Look at the industries springing up in Ogun state and its environs. Though i am short of information from other states excluding the Northern Nigeria boko haram issues. The corruption in China and so many European countries are far more than in Nigeria. China was once in this poor state and they are still in one today. But now their economy is the second largest in the world, though the standard of living is still very low. The GDP per capita is also not better than that of Nigeria. But look at the middle class, it has grown. If i am not wrong, the middle class that will boost the economy is already growing in Nigeria, just like when China started growing also, without ignoring the fact that the poverty level is still high. The banking sector keeps growing, the telecommunication sector keeps growing, investors are eager to come into Nigeria. One of the signs that the economy is bound for upright direction in the short and medium term is that now we are growing while other mega economies are shrinking. |
In regards to GDP per capita, I think we shouldn't rush because if we push the per capita income very fast then we would be in hot soup just like what is happening in Europe and USA now. When so many people earn very high, when the economy is in trouble then every household would be in trouble. Like what the telecommunication firms and banks have helped to do in Nigeria, before the banking reforms of Soludo, how many people were earning as high as after the reform? After the reforms, we can even see some fresh graduates driving cars they couldn't dream of during Sani Abacha's regime. If we push the per capita too fast then the repercussion will too bad for us the people to cope with. The repercussion will be high inflation. Even the Gari and rice will become too expensive. Except if we want to become like Zimbabwe. I total understand how much people want the GDP per capita to rise very fast because of the poverty rate but that can be eradicated through provision of infrastructures such as the metrorail in Lagos, the revival of the Nigerian railway, education like building of more schools and provision of more free education, solving electricity problem, this would generate great employment because many SME will boom. But there are still problems lying ahead for the country like the police and politicians. The police in Nigeria is more than corrupt. Politicians are extremely corrupt. These two are very big problems. |
Though the political system seems rough, though the roads still looks bad, electricity in a poor state, and Boko haram added to it, i think we should start thinking positive as Nigerians. If you look at many top countries today, they have gone through tough and rough times like Nigeria. Even the world's second largest economy, China still have many major problems. There are places you will look at in China and you won't even believe it is the second largest economy in the world, i mean the underdeveloped villages. Though, they have money to develop those villages. Now back to Nigeria, if you look at the telecommunication sector, the movie industry, the banking sector and many more, you will find out the truth. Also, the commercialization of Nigeria is going beyond Lagos, which is the commercial capital of Nigeria. If you look at Ogun state and so many other states in Nigeria, they are gradually becoming industrialized. These are signs that there is improvement. Another thing, thanks to the Lagos state govt., many streets in Lagos can now boast of street lights, traffic light and many more infrastructures. Also, the Eko atlantic project will be a big boost for Nigeria economy. The Metrorail being built in Lagos and the improved transportation system such as the introduction of the modern BRT buses in Lagos. I totally understand that high unemployment still lingers and it hurts a lot of people but I can tell you that things have improved compared to 5 to 10 years back. Since after the banking sector reforms, introduction of GSM, the standard of living has improved. With the banking reforms, I think in the next 5 to 10 years, Nigerian banks will be controlling the banking sector in most African and European countries. If you are comparing Nigeria to other countries, try to compare from a broader perspective. I think you should be happy that you didn't find yourself in the position of people in Greece, Cyprus and those that got caught up in the global financial crisis. I hope there would be improvement in the provision of capital for SMEs, stable electricity, good roads and reduction in poverty level. |
