Sports / Nabil Fekir Passes Liverpool Medical by sportblitzz: 10:41pm On Jun 08, 2018
Liverpool is set to confirm their £52.8million swoop for Nabil Fekir.

It is believed Liverpool will pay Lyon 55million euros (£48.4m) up front plus a maximum of 5m euros (£4.4m) in add-ons.

The 24-year-old underwent a medical in Paris after club medical staff flew out on Thursday following a breakthrough in negotiations.

The ECHO understands a second opinion was sought on a knee issue but those fears were eased, meaning the path has been cleared for the midfielder to potentially become the club’s second-most-expensive signing after Virgil van Dijk.

It is also understood the deal will not be announced officially on Friday, despite nearing completion.

Sports / Ibrahimovic Blames Swedish Media For World Cup Omission by sportblitzz: 10:50am On Jun 08, 2018
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still not happy to have been snubbed for a place in Sweden’s team at the World Cup and has launched an attack on the country‘s media.

Ibrahimovic has not played international football since 2016, after announcing his retirement following Euro 2016, however, believes he ought to have been chosen for the World Cup regardless of not playing in a single qualifying match.

“The media says they’re better without me so that‘s why I believe in them,” he told reporters in Los Angeles.

“That is the Swedish media mentality. I don’t have a typical Swedish name. I am not the typical Swedish attitude, behaviour and that and still, I have the record in the national team.

“I believe it is the biggest occasion in football, playing in the World Cup. All the best players are there Ibrahimovic is not there so… he should have been there. But he is not there.”

Sweden starts their World Cup against South Korea on June 18th.

Sports / Could Formation Shift Save The Super Eagles? by sportblitzz: 10:00am On Jun 08, 2018
The new tactical shape Rohr has been trialling might be key to progress in Russia, but it requires dropping one of the side’s star turns

If there is any consolation to be had from these most recent friendlies, it is that Nigeria typically underwhelm in pre-World Cup warm-ups.

The readiest example is 1998, of course, but the Super Eagles did manage a fortunate draw against Greece and a hapless loss against the United States only four years ago. In 2010, the sole victory en route to South Africa was a narrow defeat of North Korea.

Yet, this is a nation whose superstition is only bested by its deep pessimism. With the national side, while a great deal of feeling is involved, there is a nod to that famous sentiment from ‘Heat’: never get involved in something you cannot walk away from in 30 seconds. With the World Cup around the corner, there seems already to be a mental disengagement.
