The presidency has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and particularly its leadership comprising Major General Muhammadu Buhari and former Lagos State Governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, of double standards and being inconsistent on national issues. In a paper titled, “Nigeria in 2014: Facts Versus Fiction”, written by the Special Assistant to the President, New Media, Mr. Reno Omokri, the presidency described the opposition and its leadership as a bunch of “hypocrites” who would stop at nothing to “secure political power by whatever means necessary”. Omokri recalled that on December 18, 2013, several newspapers had carried the statement from APC which called on President Goodluck Jonathan to respond to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter on the grounds that the allegations contained in the letter warranted a response. However, he expressed surprise that after the president did exactly what the APC had recommended, it changed its tune and on December 26, the party berated Jonathan’s response to Obasanjo’s letter. According to the presidential aide, the example above showed that APC stood for nothing and was only against action or utterance of the president. In another instance, he said: “Senator Bola Tinubu had been one of the most vociferous champions for the convocation of a National Conference. He had championed this cause for years and many had come to think of the idea as his pet project. “At the first Anthony Enahoro Memorial Lecture in Benin City, Edo State which held on November 24, 2011, Bola Tinubu had said ‘I submit to you today that because of the multiple issues surrounding our skewed federalism and constitutional flaws, the Nigerian nation is weak... ‘The 21-member Presidential Committee on the Review of Outstanding Constitutional Issues (PCROCI) recently set up by President Goodluck Jonathan falls short. It is a backdoor approach to the issue of national conference. In memory of Chief Enahoro we must convoke a national conference.’ “But when on October 1, 2013, President Jonathan listened to the cries of Nigerians and decided to convoke the very National Conference that Bola Tinubu advocated, the Asiwaju made a characteristic 360 degree turn and went on attack mode saying on October 6, 2013: ‘The national conference is by whom, for whom, and at what stage? How many levels of deception? I see a contradiction. I see diversion. I see deception, lack of honesty and integrity’.” Another instance pointed out by Omokri was Tinubu’s irreconcilable flip-flop as far of Obasanjo was concerned, stating: “On March 25, 2013, after a birthday party that was reported in the media to have cost N1 billion, Bola Tinubu gave an interview to The Sun Newspaper and said, ‘There are so many news items that are seriously more newsworthy than to be looking for Obasanjo’s congratulatory messages in the newspaper. A man who had great opportunity to put Nigeria on the right path and failed to do so; failed to do even the Ota road, not Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. ‘What am I celebrating about him? That’s the truth. He deceptively dealt with the country and he handed over to a man who knew he was ill. Obasanjo is a leader that could not find another successor capable of driving through his vision for the country'." Omokri, in the article, expressed dismay when nine months later on December 22, 2013, the same Tinubu was at Obasanjo's residence in Ota, Ogun State, and told the former president they (APC) had resolved and was determined to rescue Nigeria and wanted him as their “navigator”. The presidential aide said it was glaring to any objective minds that the APC is a party without ideology, and a vision for Nigeria cobbled together by people without scruples who would be willing to work with anybody no matter how odious as long as that person has a grudge against the president. “This is why they cannot argue with facts and figures against President Jonathan and must therefore conjure up lies, innuendo and propaganda. “The APC's attention is focused on the short term goal of securing political power by whatever means necessary. They have no long-term focus of transforming the lives of Nigerians. “Who has been to an APC rally, or heard an APC chief or chieftain being interviewed and heard them talk about their plans for the transformation of Nigeria?” he asked. He added that over the past year, as if choreographed, APC leaders have talked about 2015 in terms of doom, soaking people in blood, civil war, destruction and such militant language. “Politicians ought to think in terms of welfare for the people not warfare for them. Talk of blood/war in 2015 is a result of poverty of vision. They have no vision so they feel they must use scare tactics. “What makes these yesterday's men bitter enough to call for blood and gore? I posit that it is the misuse of the opportunities God gave them and the refusal to accept that it has shifted to others. “While the president stays on point talking about his vision for the future, their focus is on insulting and disparaging him. A persuasive leader is not weak and a coercive leader is not strong. Anyone can compel obedience by force but only the strong get it by non-violent persuasion,” Omokri argued. He maintained that the Jonathan presidency was run on ideas because at the helm is a Ph.D leader who has voiced out severally that he believes in transforming lives rather than conforming to the status quo. “Ideas are the building blocks of the Transformation Agenda. Ideas lead to cooperation thus expanding our sense of what is possible. Insults lead to isolation thus limiting our sense of what's possible. This is the basic difference between President Jonathan and the current opposition,” he said. The presidential aide went further to do a comparative analysis of the accomplishment of the Jonathan administration with that of the APC leadership, using internet websites to separate fact from fiction. He said under Jonathan, Nigeria's economy has grown to become the largest economy in Africa (/ pbbld8r). • In 2009, Nigeria's per capita income was $1091. Today it is $1,721, an increase of almost 70% (/ y5tfwwd). • In 2007, average life expectancy in Nigeria was 47 years. Today, it is 52 years (/yyl5xy2). • In 2010, inflation in Nigeria was 15.60%. Today, it is 7.0% (/6pyhylf). • In 2007, the maternal mortality rate was 750 per 100,000 births. Today, it is 580 (/lfr4jjb). Omokri further highlighted the promises kept by the president, which comprised the privatisation of the power sector; establishment of an international airport in the South-east; revival of the railways; construction of one federal university in 12 states of the federation that previously had none; construction of 123 Almajiri model schools with Malam’s quarters, hostels, Qu’ranic recitation halls and science laboratories, with 277 more in the pipeline; repair of federal highways; and the construction of 389 health centres nationwide, as well as national cancer screening centres. www.thisdaylive.com/articles/presidency-buhari-tinubu-are-hypocrites/168132/ |
The Portuguese was well below his best but struck twice late on to make it 353 club strikes, a tally which also saw him surpass his Brazilian namesake. Cristiano Ronaldo reached 400 career goals on Monday thanks to his late double in Real Madrid 's 3-0 win at home to Celta in La Liga. The Portuguese was not at his best as the Blancos struggled to break down the visitors but latched on to dangerous balls from Dani Carvajal and Gareth Bale to net a double late in the game and also saw an effort ruled out for offside in the closing stages. The 28-year-old, who is favourite to win the Ballon d'Or next week, struck 69 goals in 59 games for club and country in 2013 and his first two this year mean he now has 400 senior strikes in his career. The ex-Manchester United man currently shares the record for international goals for Portugal with retired striker Pauleta on 47 and has hit 353 club goals over the course of his career, a total which saw him surpass the Brazilian Ronaldo, who netted 352 in his career, on Monday. The Madeira-born forward's 400 goals have come in 653 games for club and country but, even more impressively, the Portuguese now has 230 in just 221 appearances for Real Madrid. source: www.goal.com |

The Rivers State Government has denied alleged relocation of the State House of Assembly complex. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State had accused Governor Rotimi Amaechi of planning to move the State House of Assembly to the Government House in Port Harcourt. In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the PDP Chairman in the state, Jerry Needam, the party claimed that Amaechi was planning to commence siting of the lawmakers inside the Government House. The aim, according to the party, is for the lawmakers to consider the 2014 Appropriation Bill and a motion to reject recommendations of the National Judicial Council on the appointment of a substantive chief judge for the state. “The attention of the Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has been drawn to a directive by the State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, directing few members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to him to move the Rivers State House of Assembly to Government House, Port Harcourt. “The Governor also directed few law makers loyal to him, to commence sitting at Government House, Port Harcourt, and consider the 2014 appropriation bill and a motion to reject recommendations of the National Judicial Council on the appointment of a substantive Chief Judge of Rivers State, amongst others. “The directive by Governor Rotimi Amaechi to move the State House of Assembly, under the pretext that repairs are still ongoing and that it is not conducive for legislative businesses should be ignored and disregarded”, the PDP had claimed. However, in a reaction, the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Chief Tony Okocha, described the claims by the PDP as a lie and a figment of the party’s imagination. According to Okocha, “It is a blatant lie and a figment of PDP’s wicked imagination. I don’t know why they (PDP) relish in mischief. There is no such plan by the Governor. “The crisis affecting the PDP is not only political, the party also has mental crisis because some of its members have continued to reason along the absurd”. It could be recalled that the Rivers State House of Assembly complex has remained shut since July 9, 2013 after a free-for-all among lawmakers. Both anti- and pro-Amaechi lawmakers have not held plenary in the House as the Rivers State Police Command continues to give conditions for the reopening of the Assembly complex. www.dailypost.com.ng/2014/01/06/rivers-government-denies-alleged-relocation-state-house-assembly-complex/ |
University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, workers made good their threat on Monday as they continued their joint protest calling for the removal of the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bartho Okolo. The workers, who just returned from Christmas and New Year break started the protest on December 18, 2013. They are urging the Federal Government to reinstate the suspended Pro-chancellor of the university, Dr. Emeka Enejere and remove Okolo on allegation of corruption and financial recklessness. They were led during the protest under the platform of Joint Action Committees (JAC), by University union leaders, who included Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Abada, ASUU, Godfrey Ugwu, NASU, Mr Anthony Onwu of NATT and Mr Paul Obodoike of SSANU. The protest started with a prayer session at the UNN Freedom Square, after which the workers marched to the second gate opposite Zik’s Flat hostels, chanting solidarity songs. As result of the protest, all academic and administrative activities have remained paralysed in the institution. Addressing journalists, spokesman of JAC, Abada, chairman of ASUU-UNN said that workers want government to remove the VC for allegedly running the university as his personal business. They equally demanded the setting up of a panel of inquiry to probe the VC. He said, “Government should reinstate the suspended pro- chancellor or make public the offence he committed. “UNN workers want government to remove Okolo and set up a panel of inquiry to probe him on his financial recklessness and refusal to adhere to due process in awarding contracts”. Abada said that the protest was one of the ways the workers were using to show that they were not comfortable with Okolo’s administration, adding that “we will continue to carry this protest until justice is done through government’s intervention”. dailypost.com.ng/2014/01/06/unn-workers-resume-protest-insist-vc-must-go/ |
Barely three weeks after all the academic and workers’ unions in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, staged protest calling for the removal of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Batho Okolo over alleged maladministration in the institution and unjust suspension of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Emeka Enejere, youths from the host community yesterday protested along the major streets in Nsukka, calling for Prof Okolo’s immediate sack by the Federal Government. The youths protested carrying different placards which read, “Nsukka land does not want Batho Okolo again,” “Nsukka wants reinstatement of Enejere,” “We will continue this protest until the VC is removed.” Spokesmen of the group Mr Victor Ezugwu and Dr Fabian Ugwu said the youths decided to carry out the peaceful protest to call the attention of government to the unholy activities of Prof Okolo at the UNN. “The people of Nsukka have suffered untold hardship ever since the inception of the administration of Prof. Okolo as Vice Chancellor. Bartho Okolo has been denying the host community employment and admission quota and other benefits they enjoyed under previous administration before him. ’’We are not the only ones protesting against Bartho Okolo despotic rule in UNN. All his workers are against him. We have become aliens on our own soil. Government must not sacrifice the progress of UNN by keeping Prof Okolo.’ “President Goodluck Jonathan must act speedily by removing Prof Okolo, before it is too late. “We are not mindful of the fact that he has few months to complete his term; we want the VC removed. We call on President Jonathan to intervene and restore Dr Enejere as the Pro-chancellor of UNN,” they said. Similar protests were carried out by ASUU, NASU, NAT and the Alumni association in the past three weeks calling on government to recall the pro-chancellor. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/01/unn-host-community-protests-wants-vc-removed/ |

Hehe, abeg make una judge case here o. A beautiful young woman, on an international flight, asked the priest beside her, “Father, may I ask a favour?” “Of course you may. What can I do for you?” “Well, I bought this expensive electronic hair dryer that is well over the Customs limits and I’m afraid that they’ll confiscate it from me. Is there anyway that you could carry it through Customs for me? Under your robes perhaps?” “I would love to help you, dear, but I must warn you: I will not lie.” “With your honest face, Father, no one will question you.” When they got to Customs, the young lady let the priest go ahead of her. The Customs Officer asked, “Father, do you have anything to declare?” “From the top of my head down to my waist, I have nothing to declare.” The Officer thought this answer strange, so he asked, “And what do you have to declare from your waist to the floor?” “I have a marvelous little instrument designed to be used on a woman, but which is, to date, unused.” Roaring with laughter, the Officer said, “God bless you, Father, go ahead.” Did he tell a lie?...... favourable response nd more will come |

Having been on a night out with friends, the man in question went to a local brothel near the southern Spanish city of Malaga. There he decided to engage in an orgy with three prostitutes. Once all the action was over, the women demanded €70 each for their services, but the man refused to pay one of them. "I realize now I must have been a bit of a pain because of the alcohol I’d had," he said. After a heated argument between the four, the mood changed as two of the women started to stroke and seduce the client to make him calm down. What happened next caught him completely off guard. One of the sex workers pulled out a knife and slashed the man’s Instruments. "I didn’t see it coming, she must have been in a really foul mood," the man, who preferred to remain anonymous said. I used some bandages to apply a tourniquet to my penis and I caught a taxi to the nearest health centre. "The cut was so deep doctors referred me to another hospital in Marbella." His situation was so critical upon arrival, doctors had to give him a blood transfusion before he underwent surgery. “The operation lasted two hours. Everything went well but doctors told me I was very close to dying or being impotent for the rest of my life. I’ll never go back to a place like that. It’s over me now, never again.” READ MORE: http:// news.naij.com/52491.html |

Manchester United are set to open contract talks with Chicharito in order to keep the striker at Old Trafford. Goal understands that the Mexican, who recently spoke of his frustration over a lack of first-team opportunities under David Moyes, has been assured of his importance to the club going forward. United are keen to tie the striker down for the long-term and are willing to improve his current £60,000-a-week deal, which has two years remaining. Hernandez has been linked with both Arsenal and Tottenham in recent months but has indicated privately that he would prefer a move abroad if he were to leave Old Trafford. Former United coach Rene Meulensteen admitted a fortnight ago that the 25-year-old could look to leave the club in search of regular first-team football. "If Hernandez comes to an age where he thinks he wants regular football and he can get into another top team in the Premier League then I can see him considering it, but it’s not easy leaving Manchester United," he said. However Moyes has been vocal in his support of Chicharito, insisting that the champions need the striker who has scored four goals in nine games so far this term. The forward's agent Eduardo Hernandez revealed in the summer that the forward had rejected a move to Valencia in order to succeed at United, insisting that his client is more motivated than ever at the Theatre of Dreams. |
Two of the best players in the world go head to head for a shot at immortality - but the presence of which icon is essential for the tournaments success? Uefa's play-off draw means that one of either Cristiano Ronaldo or Zlatan Ibrahimovic won't be able to bring their style, arrogance, and, most of all, brilliance, to Brazil next summer. Sweden and Portugal will look to their talismen in order to secure passage to the promised land, but the presence of which superstar would enrich the World Cup more? |
