LOVEALAIGBO: What did my forefathers do during their peak!? Your disdain for the Igbo is all too apparent and unmaskable!
If Igbo were ‘land grabbers’ like you’re trying so hard to make us out to be, during whatever ‘peak’ you’re banging on about, they’d have conquered and Igbonised all those smaller ethnic groups and city-states in the Niger-Delta, and become one large empire like we saw happen with the Oyo and Kanem-Borno empires and the Fulani Caliphate, and today said ethnicities in the Delta would all have been speaking Igbo and have Igbo culture and traditions! Shameless people, yet a Benin king is ruling your industry capital Onitsha. You want to claim other ethics with your 3 states how possible or don't you know that an average deltan is relevant than 1000 Igbo who are made from the baby factory in Aba, you people need some common sense. |

Politics › Re: Musings On The Extent And Influence Of Igbo Territory In The Niger-delta by SS777(m): 5:42am On May 25, 2024 |
LOVEALAIGBO: A lot has been said on the extent of Igbo territory and whether the Igbo (or 'Ibo' as spelt in some colonial and pre-colonial text) had a presence or exerted any noticeable influence in the Niger-Delta. Depending on who you're listening to, you're likely to hear either one narration or the other! There have been attempts, right from the time of the Biafra/Nigeria war till date, to try and sell the false narrative that Alaigbo had and has no presence in the Niger-Delta, and that the extent of our territory is defined by 'your 5 landlocked south-east states' the delineation of which was done by Gowon (probably with help and advice from Awolowo) in 1967! We are told that Alaigbo does not extend into the Niger-Delta which we're told belongs mainly to the Ijaw! This false narration that some want to sell as 'truth' has its origins in the period just after the war when there was an attempt by the allied 'liberators' to shrink Igbo territory with the aim of denying us access to the sea; make Alaigbo as economically unviable and dependent as possible; gain better control of the hydrocarbons in Alaigbo; and reward the Ijaw for being on the side of the federal forces and helping them to sabotage the secession effort! Effort was also made to get Igbo sub-groups like the Ikwerre and Ogba to deny their Igboness in return for economic favours and appointments at the centre....and this policy worked to a large extent, especially on the Ogba! A lot of divide-and-rule tactics were employed in order to try and isolate the Igbo and render them a 'lone dot in a circle'!
Igbo territory and influence did indeed extend into the Niger-Delta, and in some british colonial assessments, right up to the shores of the Atlantic! There arose independent city-states like Opobo and Bonny who trace their origins to the Igbo and who over the years have also been impacted by Ijaw culture and traditions owing to their proximity and the Nigerian factor! Neither of these two city-states could be said to be wholly Igbo or wholly Ijaw....and this is my own independent assessment of the situation. Of course you will always find some Igbo or Ijaw who would lay claim to sole 'ownership' of these two city-states.
King Jaja of Opobo was a wealthy Igbo merchant who founded Opobo. Some argue that he met the 'owners of the land' when he arrived, but this then begs the question as to what language were said 'owners of the land' speaking when Jaja met them, and how come Igbo is spoken there today....what happened to their own language? It also begs the question as to what were these 'owners' doing when someone, a black like them, walked in and bought the place? Were they men or mice that they could not fight off such a 'hostile' takeover? You see, as Judge Judy always says 'if something doesn't make sense it's usually not true'!
I have attached a excerpt from a book written by William Balfour Baikie, published in 1856, in which he writes on the Igbo! Also, attached is a map of 'Iboland' which shows its extent and boundaries as drawn by Capt W H Beverly, Intelligence Officer, Southern Nigeria, in 1911....three years before amalgamation.
This attempt to try and diminish Igbo territory and wipe out any trace of Igbo in the Niger-Delta (or south-south as it's called today) is evil and is a form of ethnic-cleansing! I believe there is space for both the Igbo and Ijaw in the Niger-Delta, and one shouldn't be preoccupied with trying to sabotage the interests and territorial boundaries of the other! It will not spell the end of one if the other is doing well!
CC: Hotice085 Something your forefathers during their peaks in Nigeria with the Nigeria armoured yet they failed couldn't achieve it there is no amount of propaganda that can help you. Igbo claimed residing in the Deltan are migrants we all known and they know their limits. |
