Health / Re: Opinion: Should Euthanasia Be Legal Or Illegal? by ssultana(f): 9:42am On Jan 03, 2016
Flygeriansteve:
shocked I'm genuinely shocked that an intelligent issue like this is being discussed on nairaland.

Euthanasia, mercy killing or assisted suicide is a thorny subject. This is because moral and religious sentiments outrightly frown upon the idea of somebody taking their own life which they did not create. However I'm not going to argue referencing any religious rule book.

Life is sacred, there is no doubt about it but existence is not. Life at least to humans is marked by the ability of the living to pursue a goal, seek actualisation as well as amusement and enjoy all of the human experiences that make us human. If a human being exists as a plant, he or she cannot be said to be alive. If a person is confined to vegetative state, he or she cannot be said to be living. If a person has lost practically all the qualities that make them human, and they elect to discontinue that meaningless existence, isn't it justified?

What use is there for living to a person who has been in coma for twenty thirty years, or someone who has been paralysed and cannot do anything but retain consciousness to suffer imprisonment in their own body.

The truth is that those who want to deprive these kinds of people the right to live and even more strongly, the right to die are selfish. The kind of selfishness as when one loses property. The grief of loss is nothing to be compared to the pain of empty existence. This lack of understanding and empathy comes from the fact their inability to step into the shoes of the sufferer.

The right to live also connotes a right to die.

Lol,that first paragraph was so rude grin

Literature / Re: Is The Sentence 'HE'S A GAY' Gramatically Correct? ? by ssultana(f): 8:27pm On Jun 08, 2015
voltron:

It is grammatically correct but syntactically incorrect. I am gay means I am homosexual rather say I am happy or in a rucus mood. The context is understood in one way than another by general society. I only hear this sort of grammar in Igbo nollywood movies.

I must to marry Ada
I doesn't care
He is a gay

Business / Re: Four Nigerian Banks Among Top 500 Global Banks by ssultana(f): 8:14am On Feb 03, 2015
bushdoc9919:

Off topic....but the reason why some support Islamic banking has to do with the non interest clause.

As a Christian....I have always said that the high interest rates charged by our banks is not right.

Instead of Christians complaining about Islamic bank...why don't we set up Christian banking/building societies/cooperatives......that offer non-interest loans to poor people at zero or low interest.?

You may not like Islamic banks....but you also should not like unfair interest rates by our big banks. Simples.

You deserve a crate of malt for making so much sense

How can you even begin to say she needs to offer solutions? Is she your leader? She has done her part(which is remind us all that we are far too old a nation to have epileptic power supply) she did not lie did she? And no,power isn't better in Nigeria! Abuja that should be the capital of Nigeria has the most laughable Electricity....if u don't believe this, pack your load and move in with someone in Garki or wuse which are one of the so-called elite areas....in just a day, phcn would clear your doubt, people have just 5 or so hours of electricity per day....if you like GEJ,go ahead but don't say he has done any wonders in the power sector....

Health / Re: 10 Nigerians Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro For Down Syndrome by ssultana(f): 7:44pm On Aug 09, 2014
MissMeiya:

Thank you. Except, they aren't using their money, they are raising it. For awareness, research, and a cure.

I participate in a charity walk for MS every year. I recruit my friends and family to form a team, and we all raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to use for funding research for a cure. This year, we raised $1,000. And we were really on the low side of the scale. Some of the teams go HARDCORE, and get giant corporations to sponsor them, and fundraise all year round.

The walk, or in this case, the climb is secondary. The publicity of the event brings exposure and public awareness to the disease. So people know what it is, and know where to get help for those who have it, drive government policies etc. and of course to encourage donations from those who didn't get approached before.

I hope this climb is successful and more of these events happen in Nigeria.

That's a good thing u do,weldone......the ignorant comments I was seeing on this thread at first was too irritating...tnx for educating this obnoxious people
